History[]
Zerofuku was a kind God, giving good fortune to those around him in Ancient Asia. One day while he was sleeping, Beelzebub planted the seeds of the fallen demon Hajun on him, in hopes of reviving Hajun, this seed would take the form of a pair of horns on Zerofuku.
Years later, he went to a village, where he would see all the humans with misfortune, so he decided that in order to bring good fortune to them and make them happy, he would absorb their misfortune for himself, which would affect his appearance, and strength. Many years after that he would return to the village, hoping to see them happy, instead he saw the true nature of humans, seeing their depravity and sin, even being pushed to the ground and spat on by the very first person he saved, now an adult.
While on the ground, Buddha walked through the village, followed by a hoard of sickly, starving people and animals, who all seemed content with their lives, and Buddha's act stopped the village people from being depraved, confusing and upsetting Zerofuku. When Zerofuku asked why Buddha's people seemed happy, while the people Zerofuku absorbed the misfortune for weren't, Buddha disagreed with his methods, saying "Happiness isn't something you can give others, you have to find it yourself" before offering Zerofuku to join him in enlightenment, causing Zerofuku to run away crying.
Zerofuku became jealous of Buddha, and angry a human managed to outdo him, as he was crying at a river, he let his anger and misery take over, no longer being the god of fortune, instead transforming to the god of misfortune, aiming to wipe out humanity, which he called "divine punishment". However at the first humans he would encounter, when he tried killing them, his soul instead split into the Seven Gods of Fortune.
Little is known from his time as the Seven Gods of Fortune, but what we do know is Bishamonten was gonna take place in the Ragnarok tournament. We also know before the fifth round, they heard the conversation between Loki and Buddha, they planned on taking out Buddha, and Ebisu even pulled a gun on him, and fired, Buddha dodged and sent a lollipop stick through his hand, before they were stopped by Loki, who wanted Buddha for himself, so Buddha found himself in an eight vs one, until Kojiro Sasaki, Soji Okita, and Isami Kondo appeared and began helping Buddha, before a fight could properly take place, they were stopped by Zeus and Odin, before the Seven Gods leave, Bishamonten warns Buddha about punishment one last time. Next we see them, Benzaiten is helping Ebisu bandage his hand, and Ebisu says next time they see Buddha, he's dealing with Zero, confusing Goll, but again before conflict can start, they're stopped again, this time by Jack the Ripper, and they leave again.
Next time we see them, it's announced Buddha is fighting on the side of humanity, which Zeus approves due to the lack of rules in place for Ragnarok, Zeus declares he already has an opponent ready for Buddha, and it's revealed when the Seven Gods descend and fuse back together into Zerofuku, God of Misfortune. Upon being fused back together, Zerofuku says he's gonna slaughter Buddha, before stretching and ripping Cataxetrophy out of his spine.
Round six of Ragnarok had started, but because of Buddha's enlightenment, he could see the future, so he dodged and responded accordingly, which made Zerofuku get more angry, and cause Cataxetrophy to grow, with every miss, Zerofuku would declare Buddha a "dirty cheater" because of his enlightenment. When Buddha made a counterattack, the audience cheered, making Zerofuku break down, crying tears of blood, the emotions going into Cataxetrophy causing it to grow to sizes towering both Zerofuku and Buddha, he swung down, causing a giant crater, and naturally Zerofuku thought he won, so he began celebrating, only to see Buddha's staff changed to a shield last second, Buddha then assured Zerofuku he'd help.
Zerofuku then changed Cataxetrophy into Sword Transformation, and made a swing, but Buddha slid under and hit him with his weapon, which had changed from a shield to a spiked club, drawing blood. Zerofuku and Buddha began to clash over and over, until Buddha was able to counterattack and slash Zerofuku's chest with his weapon, which was now a giant halberd, making Zerofuku back away and cry in pain again.
As Zerofuku did cry in pain, his weapon changed again, this time to Storm Formation, and the blades began chasing Buddha, but eventually Buddha managed to break through the blades and reach Zerofuku, and Buddha complimented him, much to Zerofuku's confusion, the crowd began cheering Buddha which enraged Zerofuku and caused him to scream for attention and ask why nobody cared for him, Buddha said he should just love himself, confusing and enraging Zerofuku more, and causing him to attack again, only to be even more confused when Buddha expressed liking Zerofuku.
Zerofuku yelled to stop giving such open answers, and tried fighting again, only to feel Buddha's aura, and realize he was jealous of Buddha, and Buddha was just trying to help, the misery gone, Cataxetrophy shrunk down to just a handle. Buddha dropped his weapon, and the two began to fight with just their fists, it was a close battle but Buddha won, Zerofuku was the happiest he ever had been though as the audience cheered them both on, reverting back to his original self, Zerofuku was defeated...when the horns broke off him, and burrowed themselves deep in his temples again, forcing him to scream in agony, as he was forced to get up, the horns grew larger, forcing themselves down Zerofuku's mouth and chest, and a ball formed as Buddha tried to save him, but it was too late, the ball cracked open and Hajun emerged, Zerofuku was dead.
As a ghost though he helped Buddha defeat the person who took Hajun's body, by helping Buddha perform a Volundr with Cataxetrophy, creating a new sacred weapon, and with this new weapon and the power of the Seven Gods of Fortune on his side, Buddha defeated Hajun, after the battle we can see Zerofuku's soul pass on.
Death Battle Info[]
Background[]
- Name: Zerofuku
- Aliases: Seven Gods of Fortune (Bishamonten, Ebisu, Benzaiten, Fukurokuju, Daikokuten, Hotei, and Jurojin)
- Height: Unknown
- Weight: Unknown
- Age: Unknown, but at least 2,500 years old
Powers and Abilities[]
- Semi-Immortality: He cannot die from old age, due to being a god
- Semi-Invulnerability: Gods cannot be harmed by mortal weapons in Record of Ragnarok
- Misfortune Absorption: Has shown the ability to absorb misfortune into himself simply by touching someone for a few seconds, meaning he can easily power up whenever he wants
Equipment[]
- Cataxetrophy: A Divine Weapon, capable of harming and even killing Gods. Normally it's the size of a standard battle axe, but it grows more and more the more misfortune it touches, including from the wielder. If it feels no misery, it reverts back to just a handle.
- Sword Transformation: Cataxetrophy takes form of a sword with sharp spikes attached to the blade. Upon absorbing enough misery, it will turn to dual swords attached together like nunchucks.
- Storm Formation: Cataxetrophy takes the form of countless blades attached to one handle, that seem to follow Zerofuku's opponent unrelentingly, until his opponent dies, Zerofuku is disarmed, or somehow, all the misery is taken away from Zerofuku. Alternatively, the blades can be broken, there's a lot of blades, but not infinite.
Feats[]
- Planet Level Attack Potency: Comparable to the other gods, and was able to impress Buddha despite the fact he never landed a hit on Buddha, and was deemed a worthy vessel by Hajun.
- FTL Speed: Again, comparable to the other gods, heavily implied Buddha was only able to dodge Zerofuku because Buddha could see into the future.
- Planet Level Durability: Was able to survive attacks from Buddha, a god, without much issue besides getting blood drawn from an attack.
- Superhuman Level Stamina: Able to swing Cataxetrophy nonstop while it kept growing in size.
- Lifting Strength: He's hella strong, he was able to hold Cataxetrophy at its biggest size (that we've seen) which not only towered the two combatants, but almost managed to be bigger then the arena, and he did it without trouble.
Faults[]
- In order for Cataxetrophy to work, it has to be constantly fed misfortune, otherwise all forms will shrink until it's reduced to a handle.
- Absorbing and containing all the misfortune Zerofuku did had a major toll on his mental and physical health.
- His range is entirely dependent on how much misfortune and misery Zerofuku is feeling at any given moment.
- His intelligence is...not good, he's still naïve and tends to fight in a rage, essentially he's constantly going through puberty (yes this is an actual thing in the show/manga).
