Zack Fair is a minor character from the 1997 video game, Final Fantasy VII, and is the main protagonist of the 2007 video game, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

History[]
Zack Fair grew up with childhood dreams of joining SOLDIER and becoming a First Class. At the age of 13, Zack formally joined the Shinra Electric Power Company military. A few years later, Zack managed to climb the ranks and became a Second Class. Now the protégé of First Class SOLDIER Angeal Hewley, Zack became involved in the Wutai War, helping bring an end to the conflict alongside another First Class SOLDIER, Sephiroth.
In an unexpected turn of events, Genesis Rhapsodos, another First Class SOLDIER, defected from Shinra. Zack was assigned with hunting him down for his betrayal. The investigation eventually exposes the knowledge that Angeal and Genesis were experimental conceptions, and that their bodies were suffering from secondary effects of the experiments, which forces Zack to battle and eventually kill Angeal, inheriting his Buster Sword.
Throughout the course of his life, Zack encounters and begins dating Aerith Gainsborough. Later, Zack is promoted to First Class SOLDIER, working alongside Sephiroth in search for Genesis. Their search brings them to Nibelheim, eventually resulting in Sephiroth's descent into madness. Although Sephiroth is defeated, Zack is captured for 4 years and subjected to experiments himself.
Eventually, he escapes alongside a fellow SOLDIER member Cloud Strife, but before they can return to safety, Zack is confronted by the Shinra military and valiantly battles to the bitter end, gunned down and killed. In his dying breath, Zack bequeaths the Buster Sword to Cloud, wishing for him to be his living legacy.
