Intro[]
Carl: The concept of reincarnation has existed for thousands of years, dating back all the way to religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
Yazo: And these two beautiful, badass, and powerful creatures match reincarnation to a T!
Carl: Well, I don't know about matching it to a T, persay, but they definitely embody reincarnation, while defending the world from those who wish nothing but death and destruction.
Yazo: Xerneas, the Life Pokemon from the Kalos region.
Carl: Mothra, the divine Queen of Monsters.
Yazo: He's Carl and I'm Yazo!
Carl: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
[]
Note: Due to the release of Pokemon: Legends Z to A, a majority of this information may become outdated.
Carl: The Kalos region is a large and expansive region, filled with flowing rivers, cities and towns, frigid mountains, and vast plains. Not to mention the Pokemon that roams its lands and the ancient history that fills the star-shaped region's past. Such as the Kalos war that occurred three thousand years ago or three hundred years ago when the extravagant Parfum Palace was built. Or perhaps, you may be more interested in the Pokemon side of things.
Yazo: Because like most regions, Kalos has its own regional legendaries. The embodiment of life and death as Legendary Pokemon, basically. These two Pokemon are counterparts to each other, being the one to balance out the other. One absorbs life energy and the other releases it. While these may be myths of old, in the Pokemon world, pretty much every story that could be a myth is real.
Carl: That is true. The avian and draconic Dark and Flying type Legendary Pokemon, Yveltal, embodies death, absorbing the life of all living things-
Yazo: In a five foot radius!
Carl: ...Once its own life comes to an end, before going into a hibernation by cocooning itself. Its counterpart has legends about it that say it can share eternal life, sleeping for thousands of years in the form of a tree. The horns on its head shine in a multitude of colors, being able to grant everlasting life when they shine so majestically.
Yazo: The Life Pokemon, Xerneas.
Carl: The quadrupedal, stag-like Legendary Pokemon and the Pokemon of Life itself, Xerneas. But despite its role as the bringer of life, not much is know about this Pokemon's backstory. It creates vast forests and restore life to them and it infuses humans and Pokemon alike with energy and vitality, which led to great respect and worship from the ancient Kalos people.
Yazo: During the ancient war, Xerneas didn't participate much, but was seen to have rescued wounded Pokemon. But bringing back dead things and making living things even more living isn't the only thing is stag has. For some reason, Xerneas and its counterpart, Yveltal, can bestow the power of Mega Evolution onto regular evolution stones... somehow. Yeah, despite not having the ability to Mega Evolve itself... Xerneas can give you the power to mega evolve. Man, the X and Y lore was weird.
Carl: Xerneas and Yveltal keep the land in a delicate balance with Xerneas calming down Yveltal should it grow enraged, along with reviving anyone that the Legendary may petrify.
Yazo: So lets get into the meat and potatoes of it and see what the life deer can do.
Carl: As we've already mentioned, the Pokedex states that Xerneas holds the power to grant immortality to whoever it so pleases, through its control of life and vitality. It can also commune with others via telepathy, speaking in people and Pokemon's minds to get its thoughts across. Xerneas' ability is Fairy Aura, an ability that boosts all Fairy type moves. A STAB Fairy move from Xerneas is gonna hurt, that's all I'll say.
Yazo: Yeah, but its a lot more useful in a double battle, which is NOT what it's going to be fighting. Xerneas knows a ton of moves, from the basic Tackle, Take Down, Light Screen, to really powerful moves like Moonblast, Megahorn, Close Combat, Night Slash, Outrage, Giga Impact, Misty Explosion, and a lot more. It's got status moves too, like Ingrain, Psyche Up, Gravity, and Nature Power. But Xerneas' signature move is Geomancy!
Carl: Geomancy is a status move that has the user charge up for a turn. By the next turn, the user's Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed are raised. While it may not be a damaging move, it can't really be canceled, unless you were to use a move such as Taunt, which forces the victim to attack. In its description, it reads that Geomancy literally has the user drawing energy to charge themselves. While this is... a bit vague, it's definitely implied that Xerneas literally draws energy from the Earth itself to power itself up.
Yazo: But that's not all this deer is packing. It's got TM moves too! It allows Xerneas to use a lot more moves, both damaging and status. From Thunderbolt to Thunder Wave, Psyshock to Wonder Room, Dazzling Gleam to Draining Kiss. Hell, it allows Xerneas to change the goddamn weather with Rain Dance, Sunny Dail, and Hail! Granted, Hail doesn't exist in modern Pokemon games anymore, but, uh, it can still make it snow?
Carl: I swear to God if you start singing-
Yazo: LET IT GO-
Carl immediately pulls out a gun and shoots Yazo in the face.
Carl: ANYWAYS... let's continue. Xerneas, being a Legendary Pokemon, is a very powerful Pokemon.
Carl: Xerneas is comparable to the weaker forms of Zygarde, namely the 50% form, which was still capable of fighting Ultra Necrozma, keeping up with and fight with it. Just to let you know, Necrozma was capable of absorbing all of the light in Ultra Space, which is heavily implied to be comparable to an entire universe in size, containing all of the Ultra Wormholes. Not to mention that Zygarde was also capable of dodging Ultra Necrozma's attacks, which are literal beams of light that can cross Ultra Space in a short time, meaning that its probably much faster than normal light.
Yazo: Xerneas is also comparable to other legendaries, such as Groudon, who is capable of raising entire continents and is literally stated to be the one who formed the land that covers the Earth's surface. Yeah, these legendaries work out, man. You can bench 250? Pfft, this lizard and deer over here are capable of one billion.
Carl: Xerneas can take hits from the likes of Yveltal, who is similarly comparable to the Pokemon we mentioned above. And Xerneas should be superior in intelligence and skill to even Pokemon such as Machamp, who has been stated to have mastered all martial arts. Which there are a hundred and eighty of them, by the way.
Yazo: But for as great as the deer here is, it ain't perfect. Fairy type Pokemon like itself are naturally weak to Poison types and Steel types. You could probably inflict serious damage on it with a metal butter knife or pesticide. Not to mention that Fairy moves, by far Xerneas' best moves, are resisted by Fire type Pokemon.
Carl: But despite those weaknesses, Xerneas is the Life Pokemon for a reason, bringing prosperity and health to all. But it is not hesitant to defend the life it brings if the need arises.
"When the horns on its head shine in seven different colors, it is said to be sharing everlasting life."
Please remember what Mothra did in Death Battle![]
Note: Mothra will be fully composited for this Death Battle.
Carl: Kaiju's have existed for a long time, since the 1950s. The most famous of them all, the King of the Monsters, Godzilla, was a symbol of nuclear radiation and the effects it had on Japan after World War 2. Godzilla was a force of nature in a literal sense, showing nature attempting to reclaim the Earth that humanity had polluted.
Yazo: Later versions of Godzilla weren't that deep, though. He went from being a nuclear radiation force of nature beast to just a big ol' scary lizard. This included adding in a lot more kaiju to be both friend and foe of the big G. Famous enemies of Godzilla have been King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Destroyah, Hedorah, Mechagodzilla, and many others.
Carl: But he's also had his famous share of allies. Rodan, Anguirius, Baragon, King Kong, and a few others. But none of Godzilla's allies/enemies are as famous as the Queen of Monsters herself, Mothra.
Yazo: She’s a bit unique from other Kaiju. For one, it’s a girl! Yep, she’s the first confirmed female kaiju in the Godzilla series. But she’s also unique for being overall nice to humans. She literally protects humanity from other kaiju.
Carl: Her origins fluctuate from film to film, always being a benevolent and ancient creature that possessed some sort of divinity. In the Showa era, she was the guardian goddess of a small island, perpetually reborn through an egg and worshiped by the island’s natives. But then in Godzilla vs. Mothra, it’s stated that she’s a guardian of the entire world since ancient times.
Yazo: Yeesh, talk about a retcon! But yeah, Mothra’s apparently tied to the Earth itself. This was shown best when ancient civilization created a climate-controlling device and offended the Earth so much that it created an evil version of Mothra called Battra.
Carl: The Yin to Mothra’s Yang. Thankfully, Battra was soon sealed away by Mothra in the North Sea, although this would be far from the last encounter these giant moths would ever have. And far from the last mighty battle that Mothra would enter.
Yazo: Yeah, do you know how many times Mothra’s fought the King of the Monsters, Godzilla? A lot. And Mothra’s even snagged a few wins here and there against the Big G.
Carl: This is usually done with a variety of abilities, with a notable one being her silk. She can spit a stream of it from her mouth to disorient or trap a foe. Usually this can only be used in her larval form, but her imago form gained the ability to use it in the MonsterVerse.
Yazo: For those who don’t know what that means, larval is the small slug-like stage while the imago form is the big-ass moth. Don’t worry, I didn’t get it either until Carl gave me a three hour lecture on it. And I still don’t really understand it!
Carl: Ugh… Another common technique used by Mothra are her antenna beams. As the name suggests, it’s essentially an energy beam that she fires out of her antennas, also known as the Beam Pulser. She can also fire lasers out of her eyes.
Yazo: But as a last resort, Mothra uses the scales from her wings as a poisonous powder. But these aren’t just poisonous, they can actually cause attacks to be reflected back at her foes. Battra once used this ability to hit Godzilla repeatedly with one blast of his lasers.
Carl: Mothra’s wings are capable of more, though. Flapping them allows Mothra to use the air around her to her advantage, whipping the winds into powerful gales that can tear buildings down and knock enemy kaiju off of their feet. Mothra can also fire out arcs of lightning from her wings or release this electrical energy by touching a foe with them.
Yazo: Then there’s what she can do with her stinger. She can fire a bunch of them from her abdomen, be it as poisonous darts or white energy balls, or use it as an actual stinger, being able to impale foes with it.
Carl: In the Pipeworks Godzilla games, Mothra is capable of an ability known as Cry for Peace. This has Mothra send out a rainbow-colored shockwave while crying out loudly. Foes within its range take damage and are stunned for several seconds, but it requires a fair bit of energy on Mothra’s part. Mothra is also capable of telepathy, being able to communicate with humans who she deems as worthy enough to speak with, usually just her priestesses.
Yazo: She can breathe fire, shoot ultrasonic beams, create a field that shoots lightning, increase her speed with Flash Dash, discharge energy to have her bites deal more damage, use her silk as a whip, emit high voltages, transfer her energy to other beings, self-destruct in a fiery explosion, view thermic radiation, and a few other abilities. And she’s put these abilities to good use, having fought her fair share of kaiju. Although anyone who’s watched a Godzilla movie probably knows that Mothra tends to… die a lot.
Carl: Yes, Mothra has a history of dying to enemy kaiju, but can circumvent this with her ability to reincarnate. As long as Mothra manages to lay an egg, she will be reborn as her offspring and continue living, not unlike that of a phoenix.
Yazo: Wait, how the hell does she lay eggs? Does she and Battra like–
Carl: NO! I believe that it is implied that Mothra can reproduce asexually, not needing a mate to reproduce.
Yazo: Woah, Mothra’s asexual? I support her and all the other aces!
Carl: …You’re a fucking idiot.
Yazo: Mothra is capable of diverting a planet-destroying meteor, which would’ve had an explosive result of nearly sixty Zettatons of TNT. She’s also been able to contest with a supercharged Godzilla, who was also stated to be able to destroy planets.
Carl: Mothra has a canon flight speed of Mach 222, but is capable of reacting to much faster speed, being comparable to the likes of Godzilla, who could react to Spacegodzilla, another kaiju that could fly between stars, having once flown between a black hole to the asteroid belt in three days. The closest known black hole to us is Gaia BH1, which was discovered in September of 2022, which is 1,560 light years away. This meant that Spacegodzilla could fly eighteen billion times faster than light.
Yazo: She can take hits from the likes of Godzilla and Gigan, along with being able to defeat those same kaijus. And she’s pretty smart for a kaiju. While Godzilla isn’t known for any bout of intelligence like the ass-for-brain he is, Mothra is capable of communicating with humans, which would require an understanding of human language and all of that.
Carl: But for as mighty as Mothra may be, she does have her fair share of weaknesses. Her wings are susceptible to sharp objects, like Gigan’s chainsaw hands. Her scales can be bypassed if the attack is strong enough, like when it failed to redirect the Gigarium Crusher. And she’s susceptible to attacks with high temperatures.
Yazo: But Mothra will forever defend the Earth. No matter how many times she must relive her life, she will always do her best to defend the planet and those who live on it.
"If the world lives to see another century, please remember what Mothra did for you and the planet you live on."
Pre-Death Battle![]
Carl: Alright, the combatants are set and we've run the data through all possibilities. Let's end this debate once and for all!
Yazo: Right now, it's time for a DEATH BATTLEEEEE!!!

Death Battle![]
“Life and death… Two sides of the same coin. Life without death is pointless. Death without life is pointless.”
In the depths of the forest, an ash-white tree sat there, standing tall in a clearing. A black X was etched onto the trunk of the three, the branches forming to make a similar shape to the X located on the trunk. Across the clearing from the tree was a large egg, bigger than the ash-white tree and most of the other non-distinct trees in the forest.
“We both serve to protect the Earth from our counterparts in order to uphold the current balance. So why must we fight, oh great stag, and desecrate these lands?”
The egg started to rumble, a crack appearing near the top of it as something prepared to emerge from it. The ash-white tree began to glow a bright blue as it began to form into something else entirely.
“A simple question with a simple answer, great divine moth. Only one of us can uphold the balance. A coin cannot have any more than two sides. And yet we exist on similar sides.”
The tree eventually burst with glowing blue energy, forming none other than Xerneas, standing high and mighty, facing the giant egg as its horns changed from a blue color to a glimmering rainbow.
“I see. You are not wrong, a coin cannot exist with more than two sides. And yet between you, me, and our counterparts… We create one with three or four sides… Very well. I will oblige. May the odds be ever in your favor.”
From the egg burst a giant larva. It climbed out of the egg and onto the grass, across from Xerneas. Mothra raised her head and let out a roar, while Xerneas responded with a cry of its own.
FIGHT![]
The giant larvae shot out a string of silk at the deer Pokemon, but it gracefully leapt over it, before firing a Moonblast down at Mothra, striking the kaiju right in the face and causing it to roll backwards. Xerneas landed in front of Mothra and attempted to strike her with its horns, but the larvae quickly recovered from the blast and swung its tail, hitting the Legendary Pokemon away before its horns could make contact with Mothra.
Mothra leapt upwards and attempted to tackle Xerneas, but the Pokemon used Gravity to slam the kaiju into the ground, causing her to come to a screeching halt at Xerneas’ hooves. The Legendary Pokemon lowered its head and used Megahorn, striking Mothra with her horns as they glowed green. Mothra was thrown backwards, sent rolling across the ground as Xerneas walked towards her.
“Go on, great moth. Ascend to your true form. Let us make this a battle to be carved in stone.”
Xerneas came to a stop as Mothra's larvae form began to change, a crack and glow emerging from its back.
“Of course. Let the world remember how valiantly we fought.”
From the larvae's back, two giant wings emerged, followed by the appearance of Mothra in her imago form, while her larval form withered away into cinders. Mothra let out a roar, before firing her antenna beams at Xerneas, who used Light Screen to block it, before firing back with a Thunderbolt. Mothra darted off to the side and then flew towards Xerneas, smashing through the Light Screen and then slamming her body weight into the Legendary Pokemon while flapping her wings, throwing Xerneas into the air.
In a graceful motion, Xerneas quickly regained its balance in the air and faced Mothra once more, firing another Moonblast, which was destroyed by the kaiju's eye lasers. Mothra flapped its wings and whipped up gusts of wind towards Xerneas, but the Pokemon stood tall and strong against the wind.
Xerneas quickly charged up an Aurora Beam and fired it at Mothra, but the great divine moth flew off to the side and avoided it. Xerneas re-focused the beam and began aiming it towards Mothra, who continued to outfly it. But then Xerneas used Wonder Room and boxed in the arena, causing Mothra to hit the psychic wall, before being hit by the Aurora Beam.
Mothra recoiled and began falling to the ground as ice began to coat along her wings. But she managed to easily break it off by just flapping her wings and then catching her fall before she would hit the ground. She fired a few arcs of lightning from her wings, but the Legendary Pokemon swung its horns and struck them straight out of the air.
Mothra dive-bombed towards Xerneas, causing the Pokemon to leap backwards as the kaiju slammed into the ground, before she suddenly flew up towards Xerneas in mid-air, tackling the Legendary further into the air, before latching its mandibles around the Pokemon's small tail. Mothra began flying faster while carrying Xerneas through the air by its tail. Xerneas used Night Slash and swung its horns at Mothra while hanging upside down, but the kaiju let go of the Legendary Pokemon right before the horns could make contact with her.
Xerneas spun around in the air as it began falling back down, but it quickly stabilized itself in the air and landed right on its hooves. Mothra circled above in the air and let out another roar, as Xerneas responded with a cry of its own. Mothra fired down another antenna beam, which Xerneas blocked with a Dazzling Gleam, letting out a bright flash that overpowered the lasers but didn't reach Mothra. The two stared at each other for several seconds.
“Impressive. As powerful as the legends say.”
“I could say the same to you, oh great divine moth.”
“A shame that it must come to this.”
“Indeed.”
Xerneas fired another Moonblast at Mothra, but the kaiju swerved to the side and avoided it, before shooting her eye beams at Xerneas, whose body suddenly surged with draconic energy as it used Outrage and shot towards Mothra, ripping right through the eye beams and tackled into Mothra, sending the two above the trees.
Mothra flapped her wings and stopped herself in the air as Xerneas landed on the treetops. Mothra flapped her wings and released yellow powder that fell down towards Xerneas, who eyed it suspiciously before darting off to the side and avoiding it.
“...Poison…”
Xerneas whipped its head back up towards Mothra and used Rain Dance, causing the clouds to swirl and form a storm. Then, the Legendary Pokemon's body surged with electricity and used Thunder, channeling a bolt of lightning that fell down towards Mothra, who managed to narrowly avoid it. The rain fell down and weighed on Mothra's wings, but the kaiju managed to stay in the air.
Mothra aimed her abdomen at Xerneas and fired multiple white energy balls towards the Legendary Pokemon and slammed into it, creating a small explosion in Xerneas' face, causing the Pokemon to step backwards and shake its head, before suddenly running forward with its antlers lowered and leaping up towards Mothra. It swung its horns and struck Mothra from above, throwing the kaiju down towards the trees.
She flapped her wings and barely managed to catch herself before she hit the trees, flying upwards. Xerneas landed on the treetops as Mothra flew back upwards. Mothra fired her eye beams at Xerneas, before flapping her wings and sending out a bunch of yellow poisonous powder at the Legendary Pokemon.
Xerneas used Flash Cannon to block the eye beams, followed by using Substitute to prevent the powder from touching it. Mothra flapped her wings more to populate the air with more of her poisonous powder, before firing her antenna beams at the substitute, breaking it immediately, exposing Xerneas to the poison.
Xerneas stumbled as it reappeared onto the battlefield, left in the open to the polluted air. Mothra let out a roar before soaring down towards the Legendary Pokemon with the barb on her abdomen pointed towards it.
“Goodbye, legendary one.”
But before Mothra could make contact with Xerneas, the Pokemon suddenly surged with power, having used Geomancy. The Legendary Pokemon fired a Moonblast point-blank, giving Mothra no time to dodge and throwing her off of her attack course, spiraling her towards the treetops.
Xerneas rushed forward at double its usual speed, lowering its head and hitting Mothra out of the air with its horns, before using Night Slash, Close Combat, Megahorn, and several other physical moves to leave several gashes across Mothra's body. Xerneas moved its horns underneath Mothra and flipped her into the air.
Xerneas charged up one final move, but Mothra suddenly regained her balance and began soaring towards Xerneas, her body beginning to glow a bright orange, determined to at least go out in a blaze of glory. In response, Xerneas began to charge Misty Explosion, glowing a bright pink.
“Never let the world forget our efforts.”
“Of course, great moth.”
Mothra collided with Xerneas and–
KABOOM!
Misty Explosion and Mothra's self-destruct move combined to create one massive explosion, wiping out several hundred acres of forestry, leaving a large crater as a replacement.
Once the smoke settles, Xerneas stands in the center of the crater, standing tall as it stared at the ash on the ground. It stamped its two front hooves on the ground, causing the ground to begin glowing a faint pink, as flowers began to grow all around.
“A battle between the divines. And in the wake, nature begins to heal. And the balance is restored.”
Results[]
Yazo: I mean, I can’t say I'm entirely surprised? I mean, Xerneas has sharp horns and Mothra has flat wings. It'd be like using a knife on plastic wrap.
Carl: This matchup was more complicated than that. While Mothra may have been quite powerful in the Godzilla universe, it's… just nothing compared to Legendary Pokemon. Mothra was outclassed… in basically every way.
Yazo: One of the few advantages that Mothra has was that she was a lot bigger than Xerneas. She was eighty-three times bigger and ninety-three thousand times heavier. Xerneas was gonna have a hard time throwing her around.
Carl: While Mothra could fly at Mach 222, Xerneas could fight at light-speed, which is much faster. Although, to her credit, Mothra was capable of reacting to that speed. Combining that, along with the Flash Dash and her semi-omniscience, could slightly offset the speed gap, but not enough to cinch a victory.
Yazo: And for her final advantage? Well, Mothra could exploit Xerneas' biggest weakness, Poison, with her scales and stingers. Although it was pretty unlikely that one or two stingings would kill Xerneas.
Carl: Because now we get into Xerneas’ advantages. While Mothra was capable of diverting a planet-destroying meteor, Xerneas was comparable to 50% Zygarde, who could fight with Ultra Necrozma. Necrozma, in base form, could steal all of the light in Ultra-Space, a universe that's likely infinite in size. That's far beyond anything Mothra could pull off. Not to mention that Xerneas could take hits like this, putting its durability above Mothra's as well.
Yazo: That's not it, folks. Xerneas was also more diverse in terms of an arsenal. While Mothra had a few more unique parts of her arsenal, like shooting out arcs of lightning or reflecting energy, it was much more grounded compared to Xerneas’, who had a bunch of several elemental attacks, some of which could heal Xerneas and inflict Mothra with status effects.
Carl: Adding on top of that, Xerneas was probably smarter than Mothra, especially when scaling it to third-form Pokemon such as Machamp, who are stated to have mastered every martial art, compared to Mothra, who's intelligence has never gone beyond understanding human language. Xerneas would likely notice if Mothra attempted to exploit its weakness with her scales, prompting it to play defensively, using its speed advantage to easily avoid it.
Yazo: Plus, Mothra's reincarnation wouldn't mean shit if Xerneas just killed her before she reproduced!
Carl: Mothra was an impressive combatant and could hold her own for a time, but Xerneas was too powerful, too durable, too fast, and too smart for the kaiju to overcome.
Yazo: Oh deer, it appears this great divine moth just got stagged! For real, doe! Thank you very moth for listening to my puns!
Carl: The winner is Xerneas.

NEXT TIME ON DEATH BATTLE![]
Season 4 of FNaFpro52's Fanon Death Battles has taken a lot longer than anticipated. This is the mid-season finale and the first half of Season 4 took like an entire year. Seriously, Kazuya vs Wesker alone took from December 30th, 2023 to March 19th, 2024. I really slacked off on that, but I'm not going to dwell on it. As for the rest of Season 4? Well, here's a little teaser of what's to come.
???: "If it's the freedom you desire, then submit to me, my brethren. And bear witness by my side."
???: "War... war never changes."
???: "I've seen the look on a man's face when he realises he's going to die."
???: "And then, the world-- no, the whole universe will be mine!"
???: "The vampire's dead. No survivors."
