Wu Cheng'en VS Dan Hibiki is a What-If? episode of Death Battle, featuring Wu Cheng'en from Wu Cheng'en and Journey to the West and Dan Hibiki from Street Fighter.
Description[]
Two technically comedy characters will fight each other! Will the sole author of Journey to the West beat the martial artist?
Interlude[]
Wiz: There are many technically comedy characters throughout the histroy of art.
Boomstick: Some of them has become part of the Internet memes and their presences itself are enough for an Internet meme!
Wiz: Like Wu Cheng'en, the "indisputable" author of Journey to the West.
Boomstick: And Dan Hibiki, the "invincible" fighter in Street Fighter. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick...
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skill, to find out who would win... A Death Battle.
Wu Cheng'en[]
Boomstick: Wu Cheng'en? Doesn't he the author of the Chinese novel Journey to the West?
Wiz: No. Wu Cheng'en is widely considered as the author of Journey to the West and the real author is still uncertain. Wu Cheng'en from the television series Wu Cheng'en and Journey to the West has great difference from the real life Wu Cheng'en.
Boomstick: Oh. No wonder the Wu Cheng'en and the television series seems so fictional.
Wiz: As the son of a former officer in Ming dynasty, he is expected to join the imperial examinations and become an officer, therefore improve the social status of Wu family.
Boomstick: However, Wu Cheng'en has more interest in monkeys than studying. He wants to be as free as the monkeys despite monkeys appeared in the television series are all tied by rope or chain.
Wiz: He has learnt to imitate monkey's movements in the process and developed the idea of writing the Journey to the West.
Boomstick: Despite the whole story of the novel has been known by everyone, he treats the task of writing as important and anyone who attempts to stop him will be punished by the plot.
Wiz: Exactly. Wu Cheng'en rejects his road to be an official and stands out in several events, which causes his father and mother died in anger. Wu Cheng'en continues writing the novel, which has caused great social-political controversy as some powerful politicians, including the emperor, has once supported banning the novel and punishing him.
Boomstick: But Wu Cheng'en has proven that the plot and his abilities could help him overcome the difficulties.
Wiz: Yes. Because of his loving of monkeys, he has befriended and adopted some monkeys. His monkeys could create illusions about Sun Wukong, move in an uncatchable speed, defeat law enforcers or other adults, and shake a palanquin with a person inside.
Boomstick: The illusions could greatly scare people. If you see that a powerful fictional character comes to kill you, you will be scared too. His monkeys could even implant fear directly without illusions!
Wiz: His monkeys has casually dodge soldiers' shooting arrows and other attempts to catch them while attacking opponents. A monkey even makes roof of an ancient Chinese court collapse when Wu Cheng'en is questioned.
Boomstick: And Wu Cheng'en just stands as if nothing happened. Also, when his monkeys appear, he is automatically ignored. But monkeys' appearance is depended on the plot and is not stable unless he is already with a monkey.
Wiz: Throughout his life, he has been saved by other people many times when he is in danger. To finish his novel, he has withstood being pressed under rockwork in garden, survived being whipped 100 times and scare away "Mongolia wako", an army.
Boomstick: When scaring away "Mongolia wako", he temporarily transforms into Sun Wukong, who sends the voice so loud that it can be heard all the forest.
Wiz: When he is in immediately danger and other situations, he may passively transform into Sun Wukong. He often imagines himself as Sun Wukong and he will sometimes break the reality-fantasy barrier such as seeing his friends as character from the novel and search for one of his friend after her death in the novel world.
Boomstick: Oh... I'm sure it's a fictional television series rather than historical television series. Especially when he resurrect a boy by reading his novel.
Wiz: Despite his unnatrual abilities, he seldom engage in battle as his friends often come to protect him and he retreats after brief fighting. If you are offending Journey to the West, you are offending him. If you are offending him, you are meeting a tough guy.
(Wu Cheng'en runs in the street, shouting "I'm not crazy! I'm not crazy!")
Dan Hibiki[]
Wiz: When Sagat killed a man in a fight that costed his eye, the son of the killed man decide to train to average his father.
Boomstick: And his name is Dan Hibiki, the struggling fighter appeared in many Fanon Death Battle episodes!
Wiz: Despite he has fought many tough eneimes throughout the episodes, his greatest enemies is still himself. Dan Hibiki is considered as the weakest fighter in the Street Figher series.
Boomstick: So could we skip the stories which say Dan Hibiki trains in Gouken's dojo, is expelled because of his motivations, finally "defeats" Sagat because of Sagat's mercy and opens his own dojo since our audiences have seen it many times?
Wiz: You are a "good" story-teller. As we all know, Dan Hibiki creates Saikyo Style, a parody of Kyokugenryu Karate but is extremely weaker than the real Kyokugenryu Karate.
Boomstick: As a joke character, Dan could perform Gadoken, a weak version of Hadoken, Koryuken, a weak version of Shoryuken, and several weak version of Ryo Sakazaki's attacks. It seems that his attacks are from group buying.
Wiz: Although he is the weakest playable character in the Street Fighter, he is actually stronger than an average person. As we said in Hercule Satan VS Dan Hibiki before, he could defeat multiple thugs at once and endured a beating from Ryu and Ken simultaneously.
Boomstick: Because of his revenge desire, he can use the Satsui no Hado, the energy which greatly enhance Akuma's power. Look, Akuma is smashing an island again!
Wiz: Well, despite we have watched Akuma's island destroying feat, our audiences may not watch it before. Because of this, Dan could perform the famous Raging Demon, a move which can destroy opponent's soul if being caught.
Boomstick: It may be his only powerful attack against other fighters. Everyone discourages playing as him seriously.
Wiz: We should notice that he is the weakest character in Street Fighter because he acts like a peak human most times but other characters act like superhuman.
Boomstick: Hmm... nearly all fictional characters from many verses could surpass average human physically or mentally. In many people's eyes, he is a comedy character. He can be physically defeated, but he cannot be mentally defeated. He can be beaten, but he will always stand up again.
(Dan Hibiki performs his victory poses)
Pre-Fight[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set. Let's end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!
Death Battle[]
Traditionally animated
Wu Cheng'en in his middle age version is walking across a hill while Dan Hibiki is training his martial arts in the hill. Wu Cheng'en falls in his typical Journey to the West fantasy while walking. Wu Cheng'en is then accidentally hit training Dan Hibiki. His drafts of Journey to the West drops out and is tore in the process. Seeing that his drafts is now in pieces, Wu Cheng'en crouches, looks at his drafts, holds the drafts in his both hands, starts to cry and says:
Wu Cheng'en: Ah! My precious drafts of Journey to the West! My friends has sacrificed themselves to protect the drafts... The precious drafts are now in pieces...
Seeing that Wu Cheng'en is crying, Dan Hibiki feels sorrow and sympathizes him. As Dan Hibiki attempts to comfort him by saying something, Wu Cheng'en looks up and notices Dan Hibiki. Believing that Dan Hibiki is another muscleman of Luo Pang, one of the antagonist in Wu Cheng'en and Journey to the West, Wu Cheng'en becomes angry, stands up and shouts at him.
Wu Cheng'en: It must be the evil small man Luo Pang's conspiracy! Luo Pang, if you're a man, face me directly and don't do such dirty stuffs!
Dan Hibiki is completely confused by the statements as he doesn't know who Luo Pang is and what happened between him and Luo Pang. Dan Hibiki attempts to explain, but is interrupted by Wu Cheng'en, who angrily points at him.
Wu Cheng'en: Tell Luo Pang, even if I'll die here, I won't allow him destroy the fantastic book!
Dan Hibiki: Hey! But I'm not...
As Dan Hibiki attempts to prove his innocent, Wu Cheng'en interrupts him by punching him, which hit Dan's chest unguarded. Dan Hibiki feels painful and instinctively protect his chest with his both hands. Wu Cheng'en then proceeds to punch Dan Hibiki but is just blocked by Dan's hands. Dan Hibiki then rolls away from Wu Cheng'en. As Dan Hibiki stands up and prepares for a taunt, Wu Cheng'en has taken some sandy soil in his hands from the ground and throws the sandy soil to Dan Hibiki, who instinctively closes his eyes to avoid the coming sandy soil. Seeing that Dan Hibiki closes his eyes briefly, Wu Cheng'en points at him and laughs.
Dan Hibiki then opens his eyes while Wu Cheng'en is still laughing and pointing at him. Thinking that there is no possibility of compromising, Dan Hibiki points at Wu Cheng'en and gets ready for the battle. Wu Cheng'en then takes more sandy soil and throws it to Dan Hibiki, which hits Dan Hibiki's eyes. Dan Hibiki starts to cry because of the sand and rubs his eyes. Wu Cheng'en laughs again and repeatedly shouts "Good!" until Dan Hibiki solve the problem in his eyes.
Dan Hibiki then performs a flying kick to Wu Cheng'en, who narrowly dodges the attack, resulting in Dan Hibiki landing. While Dan Hibiki is standing up, Wu Cheng'en finds a wood stick from unknown places and holds it in Sun Wukong style. Dan Hibiki unsuccessfully punchs Wu Cheng'en as Wu Cheng'en quickly crouches. Wu Cheng'en stands up quickly and hits Dan Hibiki's head with his stick. While Dan Hibiki is briefly stunned by the attack, Wu Cheng'en continues to hit Dan Hibiki's head with his stick several times.
The next scene shows that the distance between Wu Cheng'en and Dan Hibiki is a longer than the distance in previous scene despite it is illogical. Wu Cheng'en is standing, laughing and pointing his stick at Dan Hibiki until Dan Hibiki recovers, perfroms Gadoken, which breaks small part of Wu Cheng'en's stick. Dan Hibiki then quickly approaches Wu Cheng'en and breaks part of his stick by performing Koryuken.
Noticing that his stick is broken, Wu Cheng'en's face shows surprise and he throws the stick at Dan Hibiki, who narrowly dodges the attack. Wu Cheng'en then takes a stone in the ground and smashes at Dan Hibiki's head. Dan Hibiki is stunned by the attack again and a monkey tied by a rope in its neck appears in Wu Cheng'en's shoulder. Wu Cheng'en then order the monkey to attack the stunned Dan Hibiki in a joyful tone.
Wu Cheng'en: Monkey King! Bite him! Bite him!
The monkey then flys to Dan Hibiki as if the monkey's sprite is dragged by cursor and starts to attack him. Dan Hibiki recovers and attempts to get rid of the monkey. The monkey jumps above Dan Hibiki's head, shakes him and scratchs his scalp. Wu Cheng'en looks at the Dan Hibiki and laughs.
Wu Cheng'en: Good! Good! Good!
After several attacks, the monkey suddenly disappeared and Dan Hibiki recovers again. Wu Cheng'en notices this and looks around. After finding that there are no more possible weapons for him to use, Wu Cheng'en quickly escapes from Dan Hibiki and enters a nearby forest despite the forest's appearance is illogical. Dan Hibiki notices that and runs into the forest in an attempt to catch Wu Cheng'en. Dan Hibiki fails to find Wu Cheng'en after Wu Cheng'en enters the forest.
It is revealed that Wu Cheng'en climbs a tree, hiding in a place out of Dan Hibiki's sight. Dan Hibiki looks around and is confused. Suddenly, Wu Cheng'en, now transforming into Sun Wukong briefly, speaks to Dan Hibiki in a solemn voice.
Wu Cheng'en: It is useless for you to fight. It is unnecessary for you to fight. Stop fighting if you want peace. Keep fighting and you get consequence.
Dan Hibiki is in anger and fear by the statements. Dan Hibiki attempts to move but Wu Cheng'en throws a knife which is purposely missed to warn Dan Hibiki. Thinking that Wu Cheng'en is unreasonably treating him and bullying him, Dan Hibiki's anger is winning his fear. Dan Hibiki then taps in to the Satsui no Hado and charges forward with a Raging Demon while Wu Cheng'en transforms back and fells down to the earth because of great exhaustion. Dan Hibiki successfully hits Wu Cheng'en. Now in his human form, Wu Cheng'en is easily taken down by Dan Hibiki. Dan Hibiki then turns back to sanity, being surprised to see that he killed a person.
KO!
Results[]
(We cut to Wiz and Boomstick)
Boomstick: I can't believe Dan Hibiki's Raging Demon works!
Wiz: Suprisingly, Wu Cheng'en has some advantages against Dan Hibiki despite he seems to be an average writer.
Boomstick: Hey, Wiz! I don't think someone would think Wu Cheng'en is an average writer when he or she has seen his feats!
Wiz: Right. Wu Cheng'en's impressive durability is proven by the "being whipped 100 times" feat. However, Dan Hibiki may withstand stronger attacks such as being beaten by Ryu and Ken.
Boomstick: Also, his physically strength is not fully proven because it is more common for him to "summon" his close friends to fight rather than fighting by himself.
Wiz: The most notable advantage is that his monkey imitation which gives him enough flexibility against Dan Hibiki since Dan Hibiki's movements often include unnecessary move but monkey imitation doesn't. Another advantage is his speed, which is proven by his numerous escaping records. But that's all.
Boomstick: But can't he summon his monkeys or transform into Sun Wukong?
Wiz: His monkeys and his Sun Wukong transformation could kill Dan Hibiki only if they are controllable. His monkeys' illusion creation, roof destroying and palanquin shaking has proven this. Sun Wukong from Journey to the West could one-shot the strongest Street Fighter character without any difficulty.
Boomstick: But throughout the television series, these abilities is uncontrollable for him and they are used as defensive methods rather than attacks.
Wiz: His only transformation is triggered by a assassin attempting to kill him. And Sun Wukong won't protect him forever.
Boomstick: Wu Cheng'en speed advantage and undependable abilities is overwhelmed by Dan Hibiki's stable strength and powers.
Wiz: The winner is Dan Hibiki.
