Wei Shen is the main protagonist of Sleeping Dogs. He is a Chinese undercover police officer who is tasked with going undercover for the Hong Kong Police to infiltrate the Triads. Wei is a very talented martial artist, marksman and driver. He is voiced by Will Yun Lee and played by Brian Ho in the official live-action trailer.

History[]
Shen was born in Hong Kong to Margaret Shen and his father who abandoned his family. Wei had an older sister named Mimi. Shen moved to San Francisco from Hong Kong at age 10 with his mother and sister in an attempt to help Mimi overcome her drug addiction. and later he become undercover for SFPD and seek vengeance against the triads for the death of his sister. He relocated to Hong Kong, where he got himself arrested for a botched drug deal, and met up with his childhood friends Jackie Ma and Winston Chu, the local triad leader of the neighborhood Wei grew up in. After a run-in with Sammy "Dogeyes" Lin, Winston's nemesis, Wei eventually works for Winston and for Pendrew and Raymond, two undercover officers. Along the way, Wei accomplishes a variety of jobs for Winston and for Pendrew, but it becomes apparently clear that Pendrew himself is working for Big Smile Lee, which puts him at odds with Wei as both officers work for opposite ends of the triad. Wei soon meets with Broken Nose Jiang, a female triad and Red Pole who competes with Big Smile Lee for the position of the Dragon Head, or leader of the triad after Winston, Peggy and Uncle Po, the concurrent Dragon Head, died at Winston's wedding (which puts the Sun On Yee on succession crisis). With Wei's relationship with Raymond growing shaky (as Raymond harbors concerns with Wei's preference to be with the Water Street Gang that Winston previously led before his death) and becoming the new Red Pole, Wei finds his position as an undercover officer more difficult as he is now forced to make decisions that Winston couldn't. Unfortunately, Wei's undercover status is exposed, when Pendrew exposes his status to Big Smile Lee and the 18k, and he is captured and tortured for hours by it's head torturer, Mr. Tong. He barely survived and killed Tong and his thugs himself, then sets off to kill Big Smile Lee. He succeeds, allowing Broken Nose Jiang to take over as Dragon Head.
Wei exposes Pendrew's activities with Big Smile Lee to Interpol, and his murder of Uncle Po to the imprisoned Triads, effectively ending his career and possibly his life. In spite of his police status exposed, Jiang spares him, as his actions inadvertently elevated her to Dragon Head.
