History[]
When Viktor was a young man, he would often listen to his father's music, who was a musician at the time, having stated that his father's music rivals that of Korsakov and Stasov, as well as many musicians at the time. It proved to be hopeful to the Red Army while at the same time, defiling to the Nazis. He had grown an ironclad hatred of the Nazis after they silt his father's throat on his sleep. He went on to fight the Red Army in Stalingrad, only to be left for dead by Nikita Dragovich, whom Reznov appealed to reinforcements, to no avail (as a result, Reznov has grown to hate Dragovich). After surviving Stalingrad with soon to be best friend Dimitri Petrenko, Reznov went to fight on the Eastern Front, striking at the German homeland, eventually reaching to Berlin as amongst the many who stormed the Reichstag. Later on, on orders of his hated rival Dragovich, Reznov served in the Arctic to capture the ex-Nazi scientist Friedrich Steiner, only to be betrayed by Dragovich, Kravchenko and Steiner, to be used as lab rats to test the horrid chemical known as Nova 6. Thanks to intervention of British special forces, Reznov and his men escape, but not before they destroyed the container carrying Nova 6, preventing both Soviets and British from acquiring such a deadly weapon (having known that Petrenko died as a test subject of the chemicals). Unfortunately, Dragovich, Kravchenko and Steiner have scavenged small samples of Nova 6 and were able to replicate the weapon, and Reznov was eventually captured and taken to Vorkuta for 18 years. Having befriended an American SOG operator named Alex Mason, along with many of Vorkuta's prisoners like Sergei "the Monster of Magadan", Reznov engineers the Vorkuta Uprising and unleashes it on full display. Though the uprising has killed many prisoners and guards alike, even Sergei, Reznov and Mason escape, but only Mason survives, while Reznov dies. Later on, by Hudson, it was revealed that Mason was only hallucinating Reznov throughout his missions; the real defector was killed in Vietnam, he never actually accompanied Mason, not in Laos, not in the tunnels, and not in Rebirth Island, meaning that Mason actually killed Steiner while suffering under hallucination that Reznov carried out the deed; the real Reznov actually died in Vorkuta.
He had made sparring appearances in BO2, as Mason's hallucination after the latter and his team were betrayed by the Mujahideen (under Raul Menendez's payroll). as a lone traveller who provided Mason water, and later on danced with an elderly Mason in a bonus ending (only to disappear again)

- Reznov is listed in official CIA files as both the defector and a joined member of the SOG team; however, once Hudson and Weaver realized he was never there they marked him "Deceased".
- Actually killed in Vorkuta; Mason just hallucinated him as a result of dissociative identity disorder caused by the reprogramming.
