Description[]

They got a law to uphold and a family to protect, but only one of these enforcers will be armed enough to arrest a victory.

Interlude[]

(* Wiz & Boomstick - Brandon Yates*)

Wiz: The classic officer: from old timey sheriffs to modern policemen, it's their job to uphold the rights of the citizens and ensure no disturbances are made to the peace.

Boomstick: Or failing that, just showing up with guns big and heavy enough to send the criminals packing on sight- and I ain't talking about the firing type.

Wiz: Like Vi, Piltover's heavy armed enforcer from League of Legends.

Boomstick: And Jax, the cybernetic Special Forces commander from Mortal Kombat. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!

Wiz: And it's our job to analyse their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!

Vi Enforces Death Battle[]

(*H.T - Trigun*)

Wiz: Human advancement is rarely without a cost. The quest for discovery or luxury is often set over many sacrifices and trampled lives. Such was the case in the land of Runeterra, where the city of Piltover stood high and proud.

Boomstick: Piltover was such a hotspot for inventors and artists the world over, it became known the world over as the City of Progress. But all the incredible technology and scenery up there didn't just fall out of the sky one day.

Wiz: Once a proud half of Piltover in coexistence, Zaun was eventually split off into an undercity infested with crime and air so toxic, it could kill most normal people in mere minutes. Turmoil brewed for years between the nations, as Piltover exploited the Zaunites for their own gain and Zaun watched on in open hostility.

Boomstick: Hell, some of the criminals of Zaun even spilled over into Piltover. Needless to say, crime rates because of these tensions were through the goddamn roof. Something needed to be done- someone had to come in and clean this mess up.

Wiz: And lucky for both nations, a survivor down in the streets of Zaun would eventually prove herself to be just the one: Vi.

Boomstick: Despite growing up surrounded by crime and being forced to survive the dangerous conditions much her life, Vi would end up joining Piltover as one of its greatest enforcers alongside her *ahem* totally platonic and not romantic partner in crime- the sharpshooter Caitlyn... wink.

Wiz: But while Caitlyn may be laser focused and serious about her profession befitting her sharpshooting status, Vi was charismatic, confident and always eager to let her fists loose to keep things in line... sometimes to a fault.

Boomstick: Just as well her fists are as good at answering threats as she is because when it comes to boxing, there's few better. Growing up basically a thief let her develop into a naturally nimble and quick on her feet combatant, which combined with how absolutely mean a punch she can throw is a deadly combination.

Wiz: Vi's taken on multiple criminals as a child with nothing but scraps of metal to use as makeshift gauntlets, and even held her own against Sevika, who's mechanical arm is powered by a super drug called Shimmer that let her throw oil barrels around like scrunched up balls of paper. Definitely not something you'd wanna get hit by.

Boomstick: Though probably still favourable to what Vi would later come packing for her law enforcing outings- the absolutely gargantuan Atlas Gauntlets, the biggest and most badass meat tenderisers known to man, though probably more efficient at making pancakes out of your opponent's face than butterflied chicken.

Wiz: This is why you're never allowed in a kitchen. While its origins depend on the source, with Vi either gaining them through an agreement with their inventor Jayce, or after a cave-in where she used them to save the miners within and beat the ones responsible for the cave-in so senseless it went down in infamy, one thing that's consistent across the board is how much of a behemoth these things are.

Boomstick: Powered by Hextech- a badass combination of technology and magic- these gauntlets hit like a semi-truck heading straight for ya at top speeds, being described in the game itself as being able to punch through walls as easily as people, which doesn't sound as ridiculous as the fact that they each weigh 4,000 pounds each! Holy shit!

Pop-Up: Hextech became widely used in Piltover after being perfected by inventor Jayce, which contributed greatly to the luxury of the nation for the sheer amount of energy even small pieces of Hextech could create.

Wiz: To put that into perspective, that would be like if Vi was punching you with two fully grown hippos attached to each of her wrists. And there's nothing in those gauntlets reducing the weight- Vi is lifting them with nothing but her own strength.

Boomstick: Goddamn, what kinda workout routine is this chick on?!

Wiz: Probably the same one that gives her the speed necessary to dodge light speed lasers from fellow champion Lux's Final Spark attack, or even match fellow champion Jinx's own Hextech weaponry- doubly impressive when Jinx herself could take hits from Braum, who doesn't even need Hextech to punch his way through a mountain.

Boomstick: Jesus Christ, why haven't I learned of any of these guys' workout routines?!

(*Alone Infection - Guilty Gear Strive*)

Wiz: Vi's relationship with Jinx in particular is rather interesting- the two playing an almost Sherlock and Moriarty type role, with Jinx forever escaping Vi's grasp and Vi pursuing her to the fullest extent of the law religiously.

Boomstick: Except I don't remember Moriarty having a thing for cartoony mischief and graffiti... or blowing shit up like a pipe bomb in the septic tank.

Wiz: In the original source material for Vi, the games, there's only loose hints at there being more to their relationship that meets the eye, and even Vi's own backstory is shrouded in a similar mystery, being an amnesiac who only knows of her past what little the old-timers at her orphanage knew about her.

Boomstick: Hell, even her real name was a mystery. She just went by Vi because of the tattoo on her cheek, though she eventually figured she'd rather not even know about what she was like in times past.

Wiz: However, other continuities such as the TV series Arcane show a very different side to her story. Some things remain consistent between the two, with her similarly leading a gang of youngsters that survived partly with survival skills and... more often than not fisticuffs, as well as having her more violent nature kept in check by a Zaunite bartender, though only in Arcane is he actually named: Vander.

Boomstick: As a kid, Violet, or Vi for short, would often steal from Piltover alongside her fellow orphans- the smartass Milo, the cowardly but humble Claggor and her timid younger sister Powder, who Vi would frequently look out for and even defend when shit talked by the likes of Milo for being dead weight... huh, is it just me or does this Powder girl look familiar?

Pop-Up: Arcane gives more context to how Vi and Powder ended up orphans, as both their parents were killed in an uprising against Piltover and taken in by Vander, who fought for Zaun in the uprising.

Wiz: While Vander tried his best to keep them out of trouble, his own demons came back to haunt him in the form of his adoptive brother, the crime boss Silco, who kidnapped Vander one faithful night, leading Vi, Milo and Claggor to try and rescue him, even battling their way through some of Silco's goons despite being kids!

Boomstick: The good news was they were able to break Vander out of there. The bad news was it wasn't exactly in one piece.

*Powder's monkey bomb explodes*

Boomstick: I mean... A for effort?

(*Twilight - No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle*)

Wiz: Though she only wanted to help rather than stand by and watch, Powder's contributions to the rescue ended up costing her and Vi the lives of Milo, Claggar and Vander, leading Vi to angrily lash out at her sister and call her the accursed name her sister would go on to wear: a Jinx.

Boomstick: PLOT TWIST!

Wiz: Powder ended up in the arms of Silco as Vi angrily stormed off and before she could come back to save her, Vi was sedated and thrown behind bars for several years, only being broken out by her future partner in crime, Caitlyn.

Boomstick: Noticing the growing violence in the undercity courtesy of Silco and how it bled into Piltover, Caitlyn turned to Vi for potential leads after her fellow enforcers turned down investigating the matter, and while Vi wasn't exactly eager to become buddy-buddy with her (not yet anyways), any excuse to get the hell out of that prison cell was enough for her, so she accepted.

Wiz: While they were successfully able to find Silco and get entangled in his schemes to unionise Zaun and give it independence from Piltover, what they also found wasn't exactly pretty.

Boomstick: Yeah, remember Powder? Well now that she goes by Jinx, she ended up becoming a mentally fragmented and twisted terrorist that worked under Silco as an almost surrogate daughter to him, and she wasn't exactly happy to see her sister working with someone from the place that screwed their whole livelihoods over.

Wiz: While Vi may normally be a stoic, gritty hero, the sight of her sister in this disturbed form horrified her, even blaming herself for abandoning her and reaffirming her status as little more than a jinx.

Boomstick: Despite her words last they met and how much of a cocky asshole she can be, Powder truly meant the world to Vi, as well as all she really had left to call family, so she was desperate to fix her sister no matter what.

Wiz: And alongside Caitlyn, she would fight tooth and nail through whatever Silco threw at them, especially after teaming up with another one of Piltover's finest and friend of Caitlyn's, the Hextech inventor and Defender of Tomorrow Jayce, who gave her her trademark gauntlets.

(*Blooming Villain - Persona 5*)

Boomstick: With the help of Hextech Vi ended up gaining several abilities to help mow her enemies down, like a Blast Shield that gives her insane defenses and can block oncoming attacks, or Relentless Force which lets her create freaking shockwaves behind the poor sap she hits.

Wiz: She can even increase her own attacking speed and chip away at an enemy's defenses with a combination of Denting Blows and Vault Breaker, though her ultimate attack makes them look like child's play.

Boomstick: Cease and Desist sees her lunging into the air and fucking dive bombing the target gauntlet first at high speeds. Reminder: 4,000 pounds gauntlets, flying right down on top of you like a cartoon anvil, except the results will be a hell of a lot messier.

Wiz: She even comes equipped with several Runes that help improve her combat performance even further, from boosting her damage output under certain conditions such as when an enemy is weakened, granting increased power and precision, granting her self-healing upon hitting an enemy, amplifying her stats and many, many more that let Vi become even more unstoppable.

Pop-Up: Vi can also carry several items on her person for temporary boosts or healing in the middle of a heated fight, though they aren't in limitless supply.

Boomstick: So yeah, to say Vi's got all the equipment she could possibly need to take an entire crime syndicate down would be an understatement. Hell, her biggest obstacle more often than not is just her own temper and aggro.

Wiz: While she has gotten... somewhat better about this, Vi still tends to strike first and think later, which probably makes her street smarts come as a surprise when she more often than not just elects to charge an enemy down and hope for the best.

Boomstick: Just like me on a date.

Wiz: Well that explains a lot.

Boomstick: Hey!

Wiz: Sadly, even after finding and taking Silco down and even rescuing her partner in crime-

Boomstick: And secret lover-

*Wiz smacks Boomstick across the back of the head*

Boomstick: Ow!

Wiz: -After being kidnapped and held in his clutches, Powder was long gone, and only Jinx remained in her place. While she undoubtedly needed stopping, Vi's relationship with Jinx isn't just as simple as the cop chasing the criminal that got away. It's a tragic pairing tainted by the effects a toxic environment can have on the mentally fragmented, as all Vi had left was forever left broken.

Boomstick: Even with all that in mind though, Jinx didn't really hate Vi as much as she thought, and with some help from the yordle Ziggs, Jinx was able to exercise some semblance of control over her more violent tendencies, and she and Vi were still able to show how much they care about the other despite all they had been through.

Wiz: As hard as things were for them, they were still family at the end of the day. They'll still be at each other's throats as Jinx causes mania and Vi swoops in to save the day, but hey- never say they don't care about each other.

Boomstick: Her heart may be heavy with regret and anguish, but it'll never be as heavy as her burning sense of justice and desire to kick some serious ass... or those enormous gauntlets.

Vi: So... we got a deal, pretty boy?

Jax Arms Himself for Death Battle[]

(*Fight It Out - Ninja Gaiden Sigma*)

Wiz: Crime. Terror. War. Conquest. Within Earthrealm, these were all common occurrences that ran rampant either in the criminal underworld or the deadly Mortal Kombat tournament that invited all sorts of terrifying fighters across the many realms.

Boomstick: If Earthrealm didn't want to get overrun by roided out conquerors with giant hammers or revenants that could scream your head off, they would need a great number of defenders to keep Earthrealm safe.

Wiz: Enter the Special Forces: an international agency of enforcers dedicated to taking in criminal gangs and later on, Earthrealm's many invaders. Chief among their best was one of their very own specially enhanced commanders, Major Jackson Briggs.

Boomstick: But you may know him better as Jax!

Wiz: Jax is an exceptional asset to the Special Forces- a clear-headed and experienced commander that knows his men and how to command them well, but his own abilities in a fight are no joke. He's trained in multiple styles of fighting, primarily Wrestling, Judo and Muay Thai- creating a fighting style best suited for grappling and restraining a target, which makes sense for a law enforcer trying to arrest criminals-

Boomstick: Nah Wiz, you're forgetting he also uses those martial arts to absolutely beat the shit out of any criminal dumb enough to try and cross this unit of a man. His grappling is mainly used to lead into a brutal punch or devastating toss straight to the ground. Hell, he can even do a backbreaker... like literally, if he hits you with that your spine is basically just gonna turn to dust.

Wiz: He once even permanently disfigured the face of the criminal Kano, whom he and his subordinate Sonya Blade were tasked with hunting down along with the Black Dragon criminal organisation Kano belonged to.

Boomstick: This little goose chase was how the two ended up getting involved in the Mortal Kombat tournament, where Jax and Sonya proceeded to absolutely whoop ass... well, at least until Jax came face to face with the telekinetic ninja Ermac, who promptly disarmed Jax.

*Jax gets arms torn off*

Wiz: ...Do you ever feel shame over these puns?

Boomstick: Hehe, nope!

(*Red Sun - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance*)

Pop-Up: In the original Mortal Kombat timeline, Jax's arms were covered by bionic plating that drastically increased his striking power. However, the new timeline changed it to being prosthetic arms following his disfigurement at the hands of Ermac.

Wiz: *Ahem* Well, normally this would be where the story ends and the funeral begins, but for Jax, he instead was rescued and outfitted by the Special Forces with a pair of bionic arms that were drastically more powerful than his previous human arms.

Boomstick: Jax can crush diamond as easily as Styrofoam, and his punches can even cause tremors that can trip enemies up from far away. Shit, where can I get a pair of those?

Wiz: Well I might have something like that lying around in the lab-

Boomstick: Oh shit really?! What'll it cost?

Wiz: Well I'll need to take both your arms from you if you even want them implanted in the first place-

Boomstick: I got all these arms if that'll suffice.

*Boomstick holds a bucket full of severed arms*

Wiz: ...That's... not what I meant, specifically... whe-

Boomstick: Don't ask questions you're not ready for the answer to Wiz.

Wiz: ...Okay. Well, these new implants greatly enhanced his already brutal fighting style, allowing him to tear limbs off as easily as wet tissue paper, such as with fellow Mortal Kombat kombatant Kintaro.

Boomstick: Which considering Kintaro could withstand a 25 ton explosion is no small feat. Look at the size of that thing!

Pop-Up: As seen in Goro vs Machamp.

Wiz: But he's not just a professional at tearing off arms if his myriad of brutal fatalities and fatal brutalities are anything to go by.

Boomstick: Some other highlights include him blowing the entire top half off a person with one punch, bashing a guy against the ground hard enough to strip them down to their bones, split a man in half with a single punch, and even rip off a guy's arm and decapitate him by hitting him in the face with said arm! Jesus, someone give this guy a therapist.

Wiz: But strength isn't all Jax is good for. Movie star and fellow kombatant Johnny Cage has evaded point blank gunfire in the past, and Jax has even taken on the God of Thunder himself, Lord Raiden.

Boomstick: Who, shockingly, can shoot bolts of electricity and move as fast as lightning.

Wiz: Wow, even by your standards, that pun was revolting!

Boomstick: Ah watt, can't keep up with these electrifying puns?

Wiz: I'd rather elect a new co-host before I electrify you into a vegetable.

Boomstick: Damn Wiz, when did you get a few screws and bolts loose?

Wiz: Since the day I had to start working with you.

Boomstick: ...Touché.

(*Black Tar - Xenoblade Crhonicles X*)

Wiz: Well, as tough as Jax is up close, he has a surprising number of tools to aid in him in long range combat as well.

Boomstick: He can generate Energy Waves from his hands to fire at his opponents or heat his arms up to launch a fireball, but if he still feels like punching something, he'll just make a shockwave beneath their feet with enough force to even be the last thing they ever stood on. But even a man with bionic arms likes to exercise his right to bear arms with a series of beautiful, beautiful firearms. Submachine guns, a shotgun, hell he's even got a rocket launcher with enough firepower to blow a whole ass person up in one good, clean shot.

Wiz: Why an officer of the law would ever need or possess a rocket launcher is anyone's guess but it's not like Jax doesn't make effective use of the tools at his disposal.

Boomstick: All of these and more helped Jax get pretty far into the Mortal Kombat tournament... until he had an unfortunate encounter with revenant (and Mortal Kombat's single most deadly heavy metal singer) Sindel, who promptly gave him a good ol' heel to the throat that made him croak.

Wiz: But Jax wasn't simply left to die forever. He was found and eventually resurrected by the sorceror Quan Chi-

Boomstick: Huzzah!

Wiz: -as a Revenant and slave to Quan Chi's will that served him and the fallen Elder God Shinnok to bring death to all the realms.

Boomstick: Dammit.

Wiz: He did eventually have his humanity restored with the help of Johnny and Sonya, but to say Jax didn't come out of the ordeal unscathed would be an understatement.

Boomstick: While his actions as a Revenant weren't his own, he was weighed down by sheer guilt for what he did, retiring from the military in order to settle down at a farm up-state with his wife Vera and their daughter Jacqui.

Wiz: Minus a... not so fun instance of his daughter being kidnapped by an Outworld general and him eventually getting dragged back in to the fight against Shinnok, the quiet life seemed to suit Jax and life was beginning to look up for him.

Boomstick: And then his wife tragically passed away, leaving just him and his daughter behind... with the latter following in her daddy's footsteps and joining the Special Forces herself. Yeah scratch what I said earlier- definitely get this guy a therapist. He could seriously use one.

(*-Last Battle- Burn My Dread - Persona 3*)

Wiz: Jax became a broken shell of a man. The death of not just his wife, but many of his comrades and close friends tormented him and developed into a nasty case of PTSD. He became a recluse, locking himself away in the farmhouse to drink his problems away.

Boomstick: Until he got a visit from ol' chrome dome herself, the Goddess of Time Kronika.

Wiz: Kronika gave Jax an offer he couldn't refuse: work for her, and events could be shifted so he could retire a distinguished general and his daughter would never join the military in his honour.

Boomstick: As obviously bullshit as this offer was, it gave Jax something he hadn't felt in a while: hope. After losing so much and seeing the only one he had left put herself in the front lines, Jax didn't want to be left alone to wallow in his own guilt, and that fear and his past trauma drove him mad. Hell, even his past self called him out on it when the two ended up throwing hands due to a temporal rift.

Pop-Up: Jax received various different bionic arms depending on whether he's an Earthrealm defender, a slave to Quan Chi or Kronika's henchman. The difference between them is largely cosmetic in terms of how they're used and do not appear to drastically change in stats.

Wiz: In an act of fear, Jax's attempts to save his family ultimately benefitted no-one, aside from the obvious Kronika. The daughter he taught so much to on defending herself and becoming strong and whom he held so dear only felt betrayal by his turning to Kronika for her, and Jax's promised future and past wouldn't come, as much as his fractured mind wanted it to.

Boomstick: All the more fortunate then that past Jax learned first hand just how strong Jacqui really was as a person and in time, Jax was able to knock some sense back into Jax... wait-

Wiz: Jax would feel remorse and shame for letting himself so easily fall to darkness, and luckily for him, his comrades where there to welcome him back in the fight against the forces of evil.

Boomstick: Well at least something good came of it for him after going through enough shit to put his therapist on Forbes... no but seriously, someone should really give him one, I think he needs it.

Pop-Up: Jax aided in the battle against the Elder Gods but was knocked out by the sorcerer Shang Tsung, where his ultimate fate has been left unknown.

Wiz: Though the torment may never go away, Jax's commitment to his cause will never run dry. He's bested the strongest of Outworld's forces, including Quan Chi and even Sindel after his revival, and aided in the fight against the powerful Elder Gods that threatened the Realms, not just in service to his nation, but also for the sake of a safe world for those he had left to cherish.

Boomstick: Even when lead horribly astray, you can never say Jax isn't committed to whatever cause he's fighting for. Through and through, whether human, zombie or cybernetic enforcer of Earthrealm, one thing forever remains certain: he's a certified goddamn badass!

Jax: I know you suffered. You still do. But you don't betray your unit, and you sure as hell don't betray your family.

Ad Break[]

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilites!

Boomstick: But first, protect yourself from pesky law breaking hackers with today's sponsor... no not the armed forces, I'm talking NordVPN!

(NordVPN ad)

Boomstick: But right now, it's time for a Death Battle!

Fight[]

In a run down bar on the polluted streets of Zaun, we hear the grunts of a woman working out with a boxing machine, eventually revealing herself to be Vi swerving around each swing the machine through at her and landing punches in return as each of her swings sent her sweat flying in the opposite direction, before delivering a final punch that smashed the machine's stand and sent it flying toward the exit. She turns her back to it as she goes to get a drink of water when she hears something crashing into the wall. Turning around, she sees the machine lodged halfway in the wall and to the left of it, a burly man at the entrance who's outstretched arm made of metal clearly indicated how the machine got there. Vi at first ignored him, busying herself by chugging the contents of a water bottle as the man approached.

Jax: Name's Jax Briggs, pleasure to meet you. You're officer Vi, I take it?

Vi glances in his direction once before immediately directing her attention back to hydrating herself, as Jax continues.

Jax: Now I can respect a fellow officer of the law, and I will say off the bat I appreciate your contributions to the forces-

Vi runs out of water and begins walking away, uninterested in dealing with any diplomacy right about now. This doesn't slip under Jax's nose so he decides to play his cards off the bat to get her attention.

Jax: See, we believe you may have ties with a certain criminal running around the criminal underground.

Vi immediately stops. She doesn't turn around but her stiff posture and hand that nearly crushed the plastic bottle in a strong grip indicate a silent anger knowing where he's going.

Jax: You've been chasing her for a while and she's eluded most of our best so we didn't think much of it at first, but then a quick search into your past revealed there may be something you need to tell us. Answer me honestly here...

Vi turns to him with a clearly livid expression on her face.

Jax: What do you know about Jinx?

Vi: Tch. I don't know anything about her. She's just another annoying criminal that keeps fucking things up. Now if we're done here, I've got other things to do.

Vi tries walking away but Jax isn't quite done yet.

Jax: Yeah, you do have things to do.

Vi stops, neither turning to face the other but both listening to each other intently.

Jax: I believe one of them is coming in with us for questioning. If you've got nothing to hide, then you have nothing to lose by doing this.

Vi doesn't even attempt to quell his suspicions, acting on emotions and turning to face him with a sharp remark.

Vi: I already told you, I have nothing to do with her!

Vi starts walking away again...

Jax: ...*Sigh*. So be it.

and immediately, knowing the exact situation both are in and their unwillingness to back out of it, they take a swing at each other. Jax's punch just barely brushes Vi's cheek as it blazes right by her face. Vi's punch flies right beneath Jax's arm and into his chest, the force of which pushes him far enough back to give Vi some space, as she goes to close the distance and go on the offensive. Jax however doesn't let up so easily, as he puts his enormous mechanical arms in front to take the brunt of Vi's punches, which bounce right off like a tennis ball flung against a brick wall. Vi doesn't give in and tries aiming around his arms, targeting his sides with a vicious set of hooks, which Jax attempts to block by moving his arms to each side but Vi is agile enough to slip a few good swings into his exposed sides before he can move his guard back.

This wouldn't stay in Vi's favour for long though, as her hyperfixation on the offensive leaves her vulnerable to Jax slipping one of his legs toward hers and sweeping her off her feet with a clean hook kick to the knee, giving him an opening to grab the now on the floor Vi by the throat as she falls, holding her in the air as she struggles to break from his grip, before swinging her body toward the ceiling and slamming it right back down to the floor with the might of Zeus. Vi is dazed for a solid half a minute, as Jax waits for her to get up and realise she's fighting a losing battle.

Jax: Now... you still think staying silent's the smart thing to do?

Vi slowly props her upper half up with her elbow, her forehead bleeding from the impact, as she looks up to the corner of the room where her Atlas Gauntlets lied in waiting. With all the strength in her body, before Jax gets the chance to restrain her while on the ground, she gets up and starts hastily running toward her gauntlets. Jax doesn't give chase, and instead fires a sonic wave just over her head that blasts a part of the ceiling above, as the debris falls in front of Vi and blocks off her gauntlets.

Jax: Think you can still take me?

Vi has time to try and compose herself somewhat and think of something instead of just haphazardly running in. She turns around to Jax, showing much more confidence and control than the irritated Vi from earlier.

Vi: Heh, I've handled much worse than this on my own. Of course, if you just-

Vi gestured toward the door, almost condescendingly.

Vi: -walked out, left me alone, you wouldn't have to see that first hand.

Jax: Ha. I knew you could be cocky but this is something else-

Vi immediately makes a break for Jax, leaping into the air before he's even done talking and landing a mean hook straight into the side of his head. Taking him head on with arms like that would be suicide, she noticed. Her game plan wasn't to overpower now but to simply make it harder to use them if he's too dazed. As Jax recoils from the hit, Vi grabs him by the back of his jacket and drives her knee right into his chest repeatedly, taking the wind out of him. Before Jax starts getting lightheaded from the assault, he aims a sonic wave at the floor, the force of which sends both of them backwards and causes Vi to loose her grip on him. Vi lands on her back but pushes herself right back up, as Jax, having landed on his feet, uses the time afforded to close the gap.

Vi goes for another punch to the chest, but Jax simply catches her fist in his palm, holding it so tightly it nearly crushes the bones in her hand. Vi lets out a momentary scream from the pain but uses the opportunity with her other hand to start landing rapid jabs to where his liver is. Jax keeps holding on, but enough hits eventually causes his grip to loosen and Vi gets her other hand back. Jax tries going for a hook, but Vi simply ducks under and punches him in the stomach to take the wind out of him again, before striking him in the face repeatedly, forcing him to stumble backwards as she keeps getting punch after punch after punch in to his skull, each attempt at a punch he tries to throw simply being evaded like he was punching a fly. Vi holds both of her fists back before striking him in the chest with both at once, pushing him right back to the door he came in from.

Vi is out of breath and the hit from earlier has her face covered in blood, but she fights against her exhaustion and runs up to Jax. Jax gets both arms up to block her hit, but Vi doesn't go for a punch- she gets a running start and drop-kicks him straight through the door, which shatters from behind Jax on impact and sends him flying onto the toxic streets of Zaun. Jax just barely hangs on to his consciousness, as he ever so slowly gets up, his back feeling nearly broken from the impact. His vision was blurred as he was getting up, but when it finally clears up, he sees Vi walking back to the entrance- clearly having walked away for a moment- now brandishing her Atlas Gauntlets.

Jax: Okay *cough*... so, resisting arrest, assaulting an officer of the law, I'm fairly certain police brutality too... any more charges you wanna go adding to that?

Vi: *Pant*... can I add your unlawful arrest, we call it even?

Jax doesn't bat an eye at her rhetorical remark and instead, the two simply rush toward the other with arms out in front, ready to start swinging. Jax evades Vi's initial punches, bar one left hook that narrowly scrapes his cheek and nearly takes half his face with it, immediately informing Jax how dangerous these new weapons are and forcing him onto the defensive, attempting to parry Vi's jabs with his own and when she starts gaining an upperhand, resorts to hiding behind the riot shield that are his sturdy metal arms to tank her hits, only he starts noticing that blocking this assault isn't as effortless as before. Vi's Denting Blows start chipping slowly away at his arms, as bits of metal start flying off their exterior and Jax can feel some of the mechanisms inside start to loosen and shake. In this position, there isn't much he can do except brace himself, as trying to go on the offense now would be suicide.

Vi uses the opportunity afforded to her to charge up a Vault Breaker and in one clean jab, her battering ram of a fist and the accompanying wave of Hextech energy sends Jax flying to the other side of the street, his feet barely managing to stay on the ground as they slide along the pavement trying to halt his momentum and taking some of the concrete lining the street with him. Vi uses the opportunity to lunge straight at Jax but he doesn't give her a chance to get close. He grabs a submachine gun from behind him and starts firing at Vi, who thinking fast throws a barrel between her and Jax to stop the bullets from reaching her momentarily. The bullets rend the barrel to pieces but gives Vi enough space to nimbly leap around them as she runs into cover, into an alleyway where she's safe from the assault. Jax puts the submachine gun back, as he slowly wanders toward the alleyway. Turning the corner, he sees nobody there. He even fires an Energy Wave from his hand in case she's hiding in the dark but alas, even well lit up by a purple wave of energy, he sees nothing of suspicion. His foe had escaped from him.

Jax: Alright little missy, I know you're still here! I hope you have enough common sense to not run from a cop while under suspicion! Now c'mon, show yourself!

A shadow can be seen skittering across the rooftops in the green smog behind Jax, disappearing from sight as soon as he turns around. He hears it again on the other side. He turns around and again, nothing. He knows what's coming- it's obvious what's coming- but his eyes stay peeled all the same. From behind him he hears a rooftop tile cracking, almost as though someone had put their full weight on it... as you would when preparing to jump high into the air. He turns around and sees Vi hurdling through the air right for him, gauntlet first, like a meteor falling to Earth. Fast as lightning, Jax catches the gauntlet with one hand- not enough to hold it in place but enough to slow it down so his other hand can grab Vi by the collar and swing her body back into the air as easily as he would a flag. Grabbing her by the thigh with the hand he had just used for her gauntlet, Jax brings her down straight onto his shoulders like a falling anvil, as an X-ray shot shows the hit mangling Vi's spine in brutal fashion- bending like a straw and cracking like porcelain, as Vi coughs up blood from the hit, before being flung straight back into the ground with just as much force.

Vi can feel the energy draining from her body as she tries to get up- every part of her feeling too heavy for any normal person to be able to lift, as Jax simply walks around her, dusting the shaves of metal covering his arms from their earlier scuffle as he waits for Vi to lift herself off the ground, not wanting to get any more excessive with inflicting bodily harm than he already has unless she throws the next punch. Blood flows out of Vi's mouth and nose like a cold tap but either through adrenaline or sheer unrelenting stubbornness, she eventually pulls herself back up, clearly exhausted but still having the strength to lift her gauntlets in front of her to let Jax know she's not out yet.

Jax: You don't know when to quit, do you?

Vi clears her throat and spits to the side before delivering another sarcastic remark.

Vi: I like to think that's my specialty.

Vi grabs a nearby food stand with one hand, the nearby seller running for his life at the terrifying feat of strength, as she flings it at Jax like a baseball, with Jax simply punching right through it, the ensuing dust cloud from the hit obscuring his view for a split moment as Vi leaps in with a knee to the face, his nose at the epicenter of the attack, as he flies back and catches himself with a back flip to land on his feet as Vi approaches rapidly. Jax raises his right fist into the air and in the blink of an eye, brings it down like Mjolnir into the ground to create a devastating tremor beneath Vi's feet with his Ground Pound that takes her off balance, giving Jax the chance to grab another firearm on his person- this time, an RPG.

Vi: You've got to be shitting me-

Vi doesn't even get to finish her sentence as Jax pulls the trigger and an explosive heads straight for Vi with intent to destroy, exploding on contact in a massive fireball explosion that lights the entire street up. Jax guards his face from debris as he looks away, and upon turning his gaze back after the force of the explosion subsides, he sees what nearly appears to be a blue bubble amidst the flames- Vi's Blast Shield, which cushioned much of the blow for her. Jax has the distance to safely fire another rocket on the offchance the shield breaks, so he takes his chances and loads a second rocket into the RPG, aiming at the shield and firing a second round. Vi however drops the shield in a move that bewilders Jax at first, as the Hextech in her gauntlets can be seen pumping extra power through her weapons as she punches the rocket head on. It explodes, but not in her face. With Relentless Force, she blasts the explosion right back at Jax, who's left without options for dealing with the attack as he's swept off his feet and right onto his back.

Jax doesn't take long to get up but he has even less time to get his bearings, as Vi charges through the flames to keep the assault going. She brings both fists down on Jax and sends him tumbling back down to the ground, only just catching himself with his hands which crack the pavement beneath them from the impact. One uppercut gets Jax back on his feet at the expense of his jaw, as Vi relentlessly dishes out punch after punch, landing repeated head shots to daze Jax and keep him from fighting back, with even his attempts to swing back at her being easily evaded. Jax gets enough of his bearings back to think of a counterplan- an unconventional one but it's the best he has to work with. He aims his hand at Vi's feet as she continues to push him back with repeated punches, firing an Energy Wave at her foot and knocking her off balance as she falls in Jax's direction and the perfect trajectory for an uppercut that nearly sends her jawline to the clouds above.

The stunned Vi recoils back in shock, more blood spitting from her mouth as a battered and bloody Jax charges another Energy Wave in both hands and delivers a double punch to the chest accompanied by both shots going off upon impact to send her flying, damn near breaking her ribs alongside it. She collapses on her back in extreme pain, rolling over slowly and painfully to try and get back up, but Jax kneels on her back to keep her from getting away, leaning in to her ear to make sure she hears him loud and clear.

Jax: If you had just been honest with me and told me your involvement with Jinx, you could've saved yourself a lot of trouble. So let me ask you one more time...

Jax's soft, gruff voice turns stern and intense, his fed up behaviour becoming more evident.

Jax: What do you know about Jinx?

Vi struggles to get him off her, visibly angered, as she sharply turns her head to him without even caring what he thinks of her answer.

Vi: She's my goddamn sister, asshole!

Jax is almost taken aback by her bluntness but doesn't let up with the interrogation.

Jax: So you do know her... you know her very well. You're coming with me.

Jax goes to restrain her by removing her gauntlets and holding her hands behind her back but Vi has other plans. She charges her gauntlets once more and brings her right arm down onto the ground, one Relentless Force and the two went flying into the air, as the ground beneath them cratered. Vi lands on her feet, while Jax ends up landing on his knees and tries getting back up despite also becoming exhausted from their struggle, but Vi once again doesn't give him a chance to get himself together. She's visibly livid and takes it out on Jax, as she throws out Denting Blow after Denting Blow and pushes him further and further into a corner, eventually sandwiching his face between the palm of her gauntlet and the wall, her free hand continuing to pound him in the chest as Jax desperately tries pushing her hand away to free himself.

Vi: You know what it's like!? Living in the streets, worried your only fucking family could get hurt at any moment!

As those words leave her mouth, a cog in Jax's head could damn well nearly be seen turning as a past trauma of his flashes into his mind.

Vi: She's all I have left dammit! You're not taking her away from me again-

Jax stops her punch with one hand, as a series of vents located in Jax's shoulders open and pump out intense steam into the wall behind him. With his other hand, he grabs Vi by the face, tossing her straight into the wall next to him as he positions himself in front of Vi and takes his turn beating her senseless, her previous comment angering him to the point of not even caring anymore about unnecessary damage.

Jax: You think you the only one!? The only person that's gotta worry bout their family!? Every! Goddamn! Day!?

Jax grabs her neck and punches her in the face repeatedly and without a moment to spare. He eventually releases her, but by then Vi was in too much shock to do much more than stand there with her back pressed against the wall so as to not fall over. Jax takes a step back, before charging straight at her with a Dash Punch that sends both of them hurdling through the wall and onto a platform on the opposite side, suspended over the street below where either could easily fall. Vi takes her sweet time getting up, more out of breath and energy than ever, as Jax gets up first and readies himself. Vi soon gets back to her feet, throwing a punch with all her might. Unfortunately, she's starting to run out of might to give, her punches becoming slow and predictable, as Jax simply ducks beneath them and strikes her in the chest and face, taking the wind out of her even more.

Vi is eventually left hunched over trying to catch her breath, as Jax walks up to her and grabs both of her hands. He pushes Vi into a nearby railing and places his foot on her now brutally bruised chest, as both his arms pull away from her body. Vi soon catches on to what he's doing as the joints in her elbows can be felt stretching to an uncomfortable degree. She dislodges her right arm from her gauntlet just in the nick of time. Her left arm... not so lucky.

As she tries to pull it out, the sensation in her arm goes away completely- her elbow clearly dislocating by this point and in one clean, yet brutal pull, her arm is completely torn right off from the elbow up. Jax nearly falls over from a combination of the sudden lack of resistance from her arm and the unexpected weight of both gauntlets but he hardly has time to think of that over the sound of Vi screaming in bloody agony.

Vi: GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jax gets back up yet again, leaving both gauntlets on the floor as he goes to approach his now disabled foe and finish the deed. Vi sees him coming and nearly snaps, ducking beneath Jax's hook and grabbing him by the face with her bare hand and with a quick kick to the back of the knee, flinging him back down to the floor, before sprinting back to where her gauntlets are. Jax isn't left recoiling for too long, as he fires another volley of Energy Waves at Vi, but with her natural acrobatics now unhampered by giant slabs of metal attached to her hands, she gets around them and eventually reaches the gauntlet that goes on her remaining arm, re-equipping it and swatting away the remaining Energy Waves. Jax gets back on his feet and runs in to deliver an Overhead Smash, but his epic elbow drop is challenged by a Blast Shield, which blocks the attack and sends him flying up. His attacking arm is in perfect range, however, for Vi to grab hold of it and with a single yoink, she rips the right arm right off of Jax, before she catches his landing with a punch that hurls him straight back into the same railing he cornered her in a moment ago.

Jax: God- shit!

The two are both scarred, bruised, beaten and utterly delirious from the fighting, but the only thing that hasn't been beaten out of them is their sheer refusal to give up. Vi no matter how badly she has to get beaten refuses to sell Jinx out, and Jax refuses to walk home empty-handed, especially after such a troubling part of him was insulted so. Vi dashes in, her remaining arm flying behind her waiting to be thrown into her foe's face. Jax charges at her too with another Dash Punch to meet her's. The two connect their hits with the other's head, another X-ray shot showing their blows cracking their spinal cords at the neck, as they fly off in the opposite direction and fall to the floor motionless.

All the energy in Vi she had used to lift herself up whenever she was down had finally left her body, leaving her without the strength, much less the will, to pull herself back up once more. It didn't even feel like she had a body past her neck. Her breathing slowed to a crawl and her mind was empty, content to just lay there and not wake back up.

???: Y'alright kiddo?

Vi, in her nearly comatose state, hears a voice- a warm and comforting yet gruff Aussie accent. One that reminds her of...

Vander: Must'a been rough, fendin' for ya'self all these years. I know it's been just one nightmare after the other. Ya been through rough times, like all've us.

Vi, realising who it is, starts coming to somewhat. The willpower that had previously been knocked out of her started coming back.

Vander: However, never forget... ya not alone anymore. You'll never be. And if you can protect her... ya won't be outta family either.

Some other familiar voices start ringing in her head. The first a more confident, slightly even arrogant young man, the other a bumbling but well meaning boy as well.

Milo: C'mon Violet, you've got more fight in you than that, right? Go on!

Claggor: Y-yeah, get up Violet!

???: Violet?

Vi hears a very young girl's voice last, slowly moving her head and eyes up far enough to faintly see a blue haired timid little girl staring back at her with worry in her eyes.

Powder: Please... don't leave me Violet.

On Jax's side, he experiences much of the same situation- too exhausted and beaten to have the will or the strength to move even the slightest muscle, until he starts hearing a familiar voice, a gentle and supportive motherly one- his late wife's.

Vera: Been a while, hasn't it Jackson dear?

Jax's attention is caught by this hallucination.

Vera: I know how hard it's been for you- Hell, "hard" is probably too generous a word. But you have to stay strong. Our little girl looks up to you. She needs you. And you'll always still have her.

A young voice, he soon realises belongs to a younger version of his daughter Jacqui, chimes in as well.

Jacqui: Daddy please, you're tougher than this.

Jax starts feeling the will to fight return to him.

Jacqui: Please get up. I'll never quit on you daddy. I believe in you. All the way.

The two finally start to get up, powering through their grievous injuries and unholy levels of pain as they slowly pull themselves back up. Though their hallucinated families start disappearing from sight, the unrelenting will to survive has not. They turn to stare each other in the eyes, one final time, in a decisive moment as they choose to finish the fight.

Jax: They're right...

Vi: I'm not alone.

With only one arm per kombatant left, the two begin their final fight. Jax tries to end the fight swiftly with a shotgun while they still have distance between them, but Vi erects another Blast Shield to stop each shot from going through, moving closer and closer to Jax and narrowing the space between them more and more. Without his other arm to reload the shotgun, Jax resigns to biting down on the chamber to reload it by holding it in place with his teeth as he reloads between each shot. Vi drops the shield as soon as she's in striking distance of Jax, grabbing the gun right as Jax fires a final round which is suppressed by the Atlas Gauntlet, as Vi yanks the firearm out of Jax's hand. Instead of the clean, hard-hitting punches from before, the two focus on using their remaining arms almost like clubs to swing at each other with, using their own momentum to wind into their attacks and pull them out of the way of the other's. The colliding punches shake up the suspended platform they stand upon, the sound of the rustling railings echoing around them.

Vi pushes Jax back toward the railing with a clean jab to the chest, but Jax doesn't get put into a disadvantageous position that easily, as he uses the momentum from him flying back to grind his hand against the floor and afterward, the railing and cause his arm to turn a bright orange from the heat it generated. He flings a fireball at Vi like a baseball pitcher, who ducks out of the way of the attack as Jax approaches again to keep the fight going- his burning arm colliding with her gauntlet and during a prolonged power struggle, nearly appearing to be melting through the gauntlet's fingers. Vi sets up another Blast Shield. not to protect herself but to push Jax off of her, successfully sending him backwards as the shield connects and breaks up the two. Vi leaps several feet into the air, the Zaunite smog making her appear to Jax nearly like a shadow in the skies, as Vi comes crashing down with a beaten up but unflinchingly determined face and a battering ram of a fist waiting to be let loose. With his back to the railings, Jax pulls his still fiery arm back and collides with Vi's Cease and Desist attack head on, their screams of anguish and determination to come out the victor overpowering any other sound in their surroundings.

Vi: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jax: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eventually, a victor in this power struggle is decided, when one of their big mechanical weapons eventually gives way to the other...

as Jax's arm shatters against the Atlas Gauntlet, leaving Jax completely out of defenses. The railing behind Jax gives way too and the two are sent hurdling off into the streets below, going fast enough to punch a hole through the dense green toxic fog of Zaun. Jax is first to land, with Vi's finishing blow sending him hurdling into a series of crates beside a building with enough force to shatter all of them, as Vi lands safely on her feet just a metre or two away from the impact site. The dust clears, and Jax is seen laying on the floor, the falling railings and pieces of wood and metal from the crates impaling him in several areas, and the entire right side of his skeleton practically powderised, as half his face lies flattened on the pavement and he bleeds out at a fatal rate. Vi, seeing the untold amount of pain he must be in, walks over to at least end his misery quickly, but hears him nuttering something to himself under his breath.

Jax: Ja... Jacqui...

Vi: Jacqui?

Vi has no idea what he's saying, but it takes little time for it to dawn on her what's going on after a quick explanation from Jax.

Jax: My... my daughter... she's... all I have left... she's everything to me...

For as hardened as she was, even Vi felt something in the pit of her stomach hearing the dying father speak solemnly of the family he's leaving behind.

Jax: Who... who will be there... to protect her?... I failed her... for the last time...

Vi: I will.

Jax, as little movement as he could even manage in this moment, looks up to Vi with his one open eye in surprise.

Jax: ...What?

Vi: It's the least I should do. She'll be safe with me, Major Briggs. I promise.

Moments away from blood loss, Jax's eye starts closing and his consciousness begins to fade, but he's able to give out one more smile before finally and peacefully passing.

Jax: Thank you... forget the charges... forget all that... I know you can handle Jinx... just please... keep... my baby safe..

Vi: I will. You have my word.

Jax's body stops moving, as his body runs dry of blood and he passes on. Vi grabs his corpse and slings it over her shoulder with her remaining arm.

Vi: Come on, I'll find you a more dignified grave than this shithole.

Vi walks away with Jax into the green fog, as the fight concludes in Vi honouring Jax's final wish and vowing to keep his family safe, just as she vowed to do for her own.

Announcer: K.O!!!

Boomstick: Why yes, your honour, I did in fact, give us all a kickass fight...or, would it be punch-ass in this case?

Wiz: Jax is a formidable brawler in his own right and far from someone to take lightly, but unfortunately for him, he didn't have the metal to take Vi down for good.

Boomstick: Though it wasn't like he didn't have some advantages to work with. There's no doubt he had experience and smarts thanks to his extensive and accomplished military career, and his multitude of ranged attacks gave him ways to annoy Vi from a distance.

Wiz: Unfortunately, that was all his ranged options could let him do: annoy her. Vi may lack Jax's ranged utility but thanks to her athleticism and Blast Shield, she had many options for closing the gap between the two, not helped by Vi's clear advantage in speed.

Boomstick: While Jax has kept up with Raiden's lightning fast movements, Vi could do the same with Lux, who's Final Spark attack is literally labeled as a beam of light.

Wiz: Even being generous and giving Raiden speeds closer to the return stroke of a lighting bolt, that would only mean Jax keeping up with a being that can move at a third of the speed of light. While Vi and Jax wouldn't have needed to be moving at exactly light or lightning speeds to evade such attacks, that still means Vi at minimum is three times faster than Jax.

Pop-Up: Raiden has frequently overwhelmed and defeated Jax in battle even with his restrcitions in mind, likely meaning he wouldn't fully match the God of Thunder in speed to begin with.

Boomstick: And let's be real here, it's not like this roided out beefcake of a man is ever gonna focus on keeping his distance over beating someone up close, which was where Vi was at the greatest advantage in this fight. Jax may be better trained and equipped with far lighter material than Vi's wrecking balls for boxing gloves, none of that mattered as much as Vi's edge in sheer brute force.

Wiz: After being resurrected, Jax was able to defeat Sindel, who's screams once leveled an entire canyon with a similar effect to magnitude 5.0 earthquakes, which we've previously estimated would require a force similar to 500 tons of TNT.

Pop-Up: As seen in Black Canary vs Sindel.

Wiz: While Jax being able to punch as hard as Sindel can scream is a bit of an iffy comparison, let's be generous and scale them accordingly regardless.

Boomstick: There's no question Vi can physically outmatch Jinx in raw physical power, given the latter's reliance on gadgets and firearms over raw strength like Vi, so Jinx tanking hits from Braum should be something Vi can compare to, especially given how destructive we know Hextech like what Vi uses to be.

Wiz: Braum could shake and even punch through a mountain with his bare hands and reduced it to rubble. While the exact size of the mountain is unknown, even our most conservative estimates when using real life mountains for reference would still put this at just over 800 kilotons of TNT.

Boomstick: Nearly 2,000x stronger than Sindel's YouTube reactor impersonation. Hell, Vi's even taken on opponents with cybernetic arms like Jax in the past such as Sevika, who Vi could beat with her bare hands.

Pop-Up: Jax has never shown himself to be comparable to Elder Gods or comparable characters like Shao Kahn who could merge planet sized realms, and comparable characters often needed more powerful tools or forms in order to stand a chance such as Jacqui using Kronika's Crown or Liu Kang's Fire God powers. Even if we were to scale him through nothing but gameplay feats, giving Vi the same leeway would mean her scaling to champions such as Aurelion Sol, who can shift and even throw galaxies- still far above the planet merging, despite either scaling being clearly out of the question realistically.

Wiz: Which brings one last point. While Jax was undoubtedly more experienced and clever than Vi, the gap isn't quite as large as you might initially suspect.

Boomstick: Vi may be incredibly rash and reckless but to say she's dumb would not do her justice at all. She's lead gangs and survived some pretty hostile environments thanks to her street smarts. Hell, she's even planned out heists and rescue missions on several occasions.

Wiz: And it's not like Jax hasn't made very rash decisions in the past. It's what lead Jax to even siding with Kronika in the first place when he put his own desires over his rationale. Jax may be hardened hero and a powerful leader, but he's still human at the end of the day, with human problems and the capability of human mistakes. And with the increases to several of her already strong advantages thanks to her Runes, Jax's hands were fairly tied on ways to keep Vi down for long.

Boomstick: The fight got pretty Violent, but only one was brutal enough to run such a fatal gauntlet!

Wiz: The winner is Vi.

Additional Notes[]

The connections between Vi and Jax are that they're both enforcers that can deliver a brutishly mean punch with the metal arms they fight with that are tormented by their desire to protect their only remaining family after what they went through, creating an all new nightmare in contrasting ways (Vi bursting out at Powder for accidentally getting their family killed, obliterating her mental state and converting her sister into the maniacal Jinx, whom Vi tries to reason with and apologise too but sees how far down the rabbit hole she's gone, Jax being so desperate to keep his daughter Jacqui safe after the death of his wife and her enlistment into the Special Forces that he sells himself out to Kronika to keep her from enlisting, which pisses his past self off. Despite neither having wrong intentions, they in a sense betrayed their family, Vi breaking what she had left, Jax breaking himself over what he had left).
