History[]

Vi grew up in the undercity surrounding Piltover, raised by a former gangster after her parents were killed. She and her younger sister Powder lived off small-time crimes until one burglary went horribly wrong. Vi was arrested and thrown into prison for years, until she was released by Caitlyn enlisting her help in dealing with Powder, now known as the criminal Jinx. Vi eventually became an officer of the law, albeit one with a very loose relationship to the rules and authority, and a preference for solving problems with her fists.

In Arcane, she and her younger sister Powder were orphaned at a young age after a bloody revolution, where they struggled to survive by committing small-time robberies until they were adopted by a community leader and bartender named Vander, who eventually mentored and trained Vi in the art of boxing, and committed small-time crimes behind Vander's back with Mylo and Claggor, their adopted brothers. Although this caused trouble for Vander, he still managed to keep the sisters adopted no less, until he was kidnapped by his old friend, the crime lord Silco. Vi, Mylo and Claggor attempted a rescue, but it was eventually botched due to Powder's inadvertent effort that killed Mylo, Claggor and eventually Vander himself. As a result, a grief-stricken Vi apparently abandons Powder to mourn for Vander, indirectly leading to her adoption as Jinx under Silco's care.

Years after, as a connected career criminal under incarceration by Marcus, Vi is recruited by untested enforcer Caitlyn to find information about Jinx, who works for Silco as a smuggler and inventor. After a rough scuffle with Sevika, Silco's 2nd in command in a brothel that leaves her wounded but recovered and a confrontation with the crime lord himself, Vi reunites with Jinx, but their reunion is apparently short-lived due to Caitlyn and the Firelights' ambush. After being taken alive by the latter with the former, Vi finds out that Ekko, their childhood friend, has become the leader of the Firelights and has fought against Silco's tyranny over Zaun while rehabilitating addicts at the same time. Refusing to agree with Ekko that Powder is gone, Vi maintains that Powder is still alive within the monster that is Jinx, but her quest to find and reform her becomes incredibly difficult due to Silco's influence on Jinx, and the latter's belief that Vi has sided with the Pilties over her.

After an unsuccessful attempt to convince the Council of Piltover about the threat Silco poses and the declining state of Zaun in general, Vi leaves Caitlyn and works with councilor Jayce Talis to bring down Silco's Shimmer plant, but the attempt becomes a failure due to Jayce's accidental murder of a child worker. She then goes on to the bottom of Silco's criminal underworld to find her sister by defeating Sevika again, but is kidnapped by Jinx afterwards. Ultimately, Vi's attempt to bring Powder back turns unsuccessful due the traumatic influence she placed on her, following Silco's unfortunate death, which irreparably transforms Jinx into the monster that Vi inadvertently created.
