Description[]
RWBY vs. Akame ga Kill. Season 10 premiere. Side characters popular enough to be featured in a season premiere.
Introduction[]
Wiz: Velvet Scarletina, the Rabbit Faunus of Team CFVY .
Boomstick: Sheele, the scissor-wielding Night Raid assassin.
Wiz: Side characters are often swept to, well, the side but these two made enough of a memorable impact to stay in the hearts of fans.
Boomstick: Speaking of side characters, I think there's one we're forgetting to include...but who cares? He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armours and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
Velvet[]
Wiz: The Huntsman Academy of Beacon was the original founding place of Huntsmen and Huntress Teams.
Boomstick: We got the Protags Team RWBY, the deuters Team JNPR, and those who fall to the sides like douches Team CRDL. Although there is one other group that's worth paying attention to. A team of second-year students, Team CFVY, who might have been named that because Ozpin had run out of hot chocolate that day and wasn't feeling inventive.
Wiz: You know damn well that each Huntsman team name is a acronym. In fact, CFVY's is comprised of members Coco Adel, Fox Alistair and Yatsuhashi Daichi. But there's still another that I left out for significance; Velvet Scarletina.
- Background
- Age: 18
- Height: 5’6
- Rabbit Faunus
- Member of CFVY
- Alludes to the Velveteen Rabbit
Boomstick: Aw, look at her ears. So cute! ...oh god, is that racist? Zootopia said that might be kinda racist.
Wiz: Well, a Faunus' features are nothing that they should be ashamed of, but unfortunately, too many humans believe they should be, leading to Velvet facing discrimination throughout most of her life, even at Beacon.
Boomstick: Since her father was a scientist at Atlas, where there appeared to be a great deal of prejudice towards Faunus, she must of really had it rough there. At least she had her teammates to look out for her once they were christened Team CFVY.
Wiz: Unfortunately, Velvet felt herself a bit of a liability to her team due to the preciousness of her unique abilities meaning they encouraged her to take a step back from fighting to save them up. Which I guess I can understand but it's still a bit disappointing considering just how effective they really are.
Boomstick: And it all lies in that little box of hers, Anesidora.
- Anesidora
- Box-like device
- Generates constructs of hard light
- Takes pictures of weapons to copy
- Each weapon lasts a single hit
- Used in conjunction with Semblance
- Enables her to copy observed fighting styles
Wiz: By taking a photograph of a weapon with her camera, Velvet is able to create a hard-light copy of it, which Anesidora can then project from itself for her to use.
Boomstick: And thanks to being a little shutter bunny, she has all sorts of copies to pull out. With Ember Cecelia, Myrtlenasty, Grumble Shroud or Croissant Rose.
Wiz: Is that a Dragon Ball Abridged reference?
Boomstick: Yes it is. In all seriousness though, Velvet's photo-shopped weapons include Blake's gun, katana and Kusarigama, Yang's shotgun gauntlets, Ruby's scythe and Weiss's rapier.
Wiz: There's even more that than though. She's copied Sun Wukong's staff-nunchuck weapon, Nora's hammer and Penny's floating array of swords, and yet there's even more than that.
Boomstick: And even though they're just hard-light, they can still be used as the gun's most of them were designed to be. Like her teammate Coco's minigun handbag.
Wiz: But of course, wielding copies of other peoples' weapons means that Velvet needed to be as skilled as they were. Fortunately, that's where her Semblance comes in.
Boomstick: First of all, quick recap that Aura is a full-body shield made of the soul, it blocks lethal blows and increases physical abilities, yadda-yadda-yadda. But yeah, her Semblance is pretty sick, because it lets her mimic the movements of anyone she watches, meaning she is able to fight as effectively with one of her copied weapons as easily as their real user.
Wiz: Of course, her Semblance doesn't let her copy the Semblances or abilities pertaining to such of other people. Still, it makes for a pretty good combination of itself and the hard-light weapon copies, easily making Velvet one of RWBY's most versatile fighters.
Popup: Most Faunus also possess enhanced night vision.
Boomstick: Especially with the track records of the weapons she's copied. Like with Floating Array's energy cannon, which is powerful enough to slice though Bullheads.
Wiz: To prove this, we'll get DUMMI here to take a blast from the weapon.
DUMMI: Can't I just stay exclusive to the canon version?
Wiz: Haha...no. Now get in here.
DUMMI: Fine
(A Floating Array copy hums to life and gets ready to fire)
DUMMI: First sweet death of many, I welcome you.
Wiz: Oh lighten up.
(Energy blast vaporizes DUMMI)
Boomstick: Whoa, nice! And with her Floating Array copy, Velvet packs that kind of firepower for herself.
- Feats
- Fought against a Paladin
- Helped seal the Breach
- Defeated Carmine Esclados and Bertilak Celadon
- Has participated in numerous field missions
- Created her hard-light weapon project
Wiz: Being second year Huntsmen-in-training, Velvet and her team have been on plenty of missions, giving each of them a sizeable pool of what can only be considered as work experience.
Boomstick: Even after Beacon fell, they transferred to Shade Academy to continue with their training, having their own adventures when they came into conflict with a shadowy organization known as the Crown.
Wiz: Including against one of their enforcers Carmine Esclados, who was able to beat Velvet's teammate Yatsuhashi.
Boomstick: This big boi was able to swing him sword so hard, the resulting impact from blocking it ended up wrecking an artificial biome, which needed over 4 tons of TNT to pull off (TheRustyOne).
Wiz: That's actually identical to the hits other Huntsmen-in-training have taken, given a whole group took a hit from a Nevermore making a battering ram of itself. And Velvet's other teammate, Coco, dodged a bullet in an extremely close call. And in the battle that formed her team, she showed off an exceptional aptitude for directing them in battle.
Boomstick: Speaking of, since her hard-light weapons don't last too long, it actually is best for her to keep back for the most part until she really needs to. After all, it took practically all of them to beat a single Atlas robot, yet another model gave all of Team RWBY a hard time, and afterwards Velvet went on to copy even more weapons to help her team out in the field.
Wiz: Just like any good future Huntress should do.
Sheele[]
Wiz: The assassination team Night Raid is comprised of individuals who, whilst incredibly deadly, are all also fairly odd.
Boomstick: Even their top assassin Akame stands out thanks to her insatiable appetite for meat. But yeah, assassins where still assassins and woe besides anyone the Raiders put their sights on. So in order to be accepted as a member, you had to be packing some pretty good killer's instincts. That's how the ordinary citizen Sheele got scouted.
- Background
- Age: Teens
- Height: 5’3
- Night Raid member
- Terrible at housework
- Apologizes to those she kills
Wiz: Living in the lower districts of the Imperial Capital, which by the way was swimming with corruption, Sheele was clumsy by nature and in a many jobs, clumsiness is an undesirable trait.
Boomstick: Even things as simple of chores were a, well, chore to her, being unable to tell salt apart from sugar. Fortunately, she had a friend to help her deal with her series of unlucky events.
Wiz: Well, all until the day that her friend's ex-boyfriend came around to their place stinking drunk. In the struggle that followed, Sheele's instincts took hold and she drove a knife into the man's check with no hesitation whatsoever. Unfortunately, in spite of saving her friend's life by doing so, that was the end of their friendship.
Boomstick: Talk about ungrateful. I mean I can understand the shock of seeing someone usually as nice and klutzy as Sheele kill someone but kill, she'd be dead if it wasn't for her.
Wiz: As it turns out, the loose screw in Sheele's head that made her a complete klutz also made her a pretty effective killer, a theory she proved when she killed the friends of the ex-boyfriend after they had murdered her parents. With her skills proved, the Revolutionary Army scouted her for Night Raid, where she could make use of that loose screw.
Boomstick: And her brand new Imperial Arm, Extase. Which was...a giant pair of kiddy scissors?
Wiz: Hey, that's not the strangest Imperial Arm there is. There's one that's just a microphone.
- Extase
- AKA Cutter of Creation
- Offensive Type Imperial Arms
- Giant scissors
- Extremely sharp
- Extremely durable
- Seems weightless
- Trump Card: Blinding Light
Boomstick: Touché. Anyway, as a big pair of sheers, Extase naturally possesses a whole lot of cutting power. So much in fact, it was named the Cutter of Creation.
Wiz: A single snip from this weapon is enough to complete cut through a normal human being and even though other Imperial Arms, like Hecatonchires and Incursio's wrist guard, so for the most part it certainly lives up to its title.
Boomstick: And in spite of its cutting power being the main focus, it's also really tough, able to take blows from Hecatonchires without coming close to being broken. And in spite of this, it seems basically weightless, even though someone really shouldn't run with scissors.
Wiz: Especially not when you can get blinded by something else. In this case, the blinding light Extase can emit as per its Trump Card.
Boomstick: It's nothing like reflecting light from the blades, it's the fact the light comes straight from it. A perfect cover for which Sheele to stick those sheers where they really hurt.
Wiz: In fact, DUMMI, get back in here please, I've simulated the sharpness of Extase onto a pair of normal scissors, so we'll see just how effective at cutting they are.
DUMMI: Why do you do this to me Mister Wizard? We all know you only featured me in this episode because of its focus on side characters.
Wiz: Oh don't complain, we'll be sure to feature you now that we've introduced you.
DUMMI: Promise?
Wiz: I promise. Well, I mean, if we can't think of a clever way to transition from weapon bios to feats, we'll be sure to-
Boomstick: Stab!
(Boomstick stabs DUMMI with the scissors)
Wiz: Boomstick!
Boomstick: I don't like to be ignored!
Wiz: Anyway, with the deadliness of Extase and her loose screw, Sheele certainly found a place amongst Night Raid.
- Feats
- In the Empire’s most wanted list
- Sliced of the top of Hecatonchires ‘ head
- Survived a while after being bitten in half
- Dodged bullets from 20 feet away
- Defeated a group of thugs and Seryu
Boomstick: She's in the Empire's top most wanted, so she certainly was infamous.
Wiz: As an assassin, Sheele was evidently stealthy enough to sneak up on her targets whilst brandishing those giant scissors. Which, by the way, emerged totally unscathed from a blast from her friend Mine's Pumpkin.
Boomstick: Silly name for an artillery weapon but it packs enough of a punch at minimum power to carve a massive trench in the process of straight up vaporizing a dude.
Wiz: That blast was worth an equivalent of nearly 900 kilotons of TNT (VersusJunkie54) and again, Extase emerged from it completely unscathed. In her battle against Seryu Ubiquitous, she dodged bullets from her Tonfa Guns at a range of 20 feet. And that's not all she did, in a very tragic context.
Boomstick: Sadly, this battle is where she got the worst injury of all. No, not the scar on her cheek, she cut that on a branch. I'm talking about a bullet to the back and becoming the snack for the not-so-good doggo Koro.
Wiz: But even after being bitten in half and a literal moment away from death's door, Sheele had enough strength to activate her light and give Mine the cover she needed to escape. Her only regret was that she couldn't continue to help Night Raid's newest member Tatsumi with whatever trouble's he might have faced.
Boomstick: Like a good teammate should always do, even if they're ultimately an assassin.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Alright the combatants are set, time to end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!
The Battle[]
Setting: Park at night
Sheele ran down the stone path of the park, going so fast she didn't notice the figure lurking in the trees. Not until they, Velvet Scarletina, stepped out from the trees and lifted her camera up, her eyes lighting up at the massive pair of scissors Sheele carried. Just before she could take the photograph, Sheele skidded to a stop at sensing her presence and turned around, looking at the Faunus and slightly freaking her out with the eerily cold look in her eyes.
Sheele: Can't have witnesses blowing my cover. I'm sorry.
Velvet: Sorry...for wha-
She didn't get the chance to finish her uneasy question before Sheele turned around, brandished her scissors.
FIGHT!
In response, Velvet activated her weapon to create Gambol Shroud in its massive cleaver form. She swung it out to meet Sheele's own swing, the two weapons colliding together with a loud clang. In spite of her initial attack being intercepted, Sheele pulled Extase back and swung it out several more times, although each time was blocked by Velvet until their respective weapons were locked against each other. With a grunt, Velvet pushed Extase a little to the side so that she could grab the katana inside the cleaver and slash out with it at Sheele. To avoid it, the assassin flipped her entire body to the left, which also allowed her to wrench Extase free from the blade lock and force Velvet to spin around to compensate the forceful detachment. As she spun around to meet the again upright Sheele, Velvet threw the katana at her, making Sheele move her head to the side to avoid it. Noticing the ribbon attached to the katana as Velvet pulled on it to bring the weapon towards the back of her head, Sheele slashed up with Extase to sever the hard-light tether and by extension dispel the entirety of the fake Gambol Shroud. Velvet gasped at the suddenly disarming and jumped backwards from Sheele's wide slash.
Landing, the Faunus was beset again by Sheele, who charged forward with a powerful stab attack. Velvet quickly summoned another hard light weapon to her hand, Weiss' rapier, and unleashed a blinding slash from it with an upwards slash that propelled Sheele backwards. Now it was Velvet's turn to charge forwards with a stab attack, aiming it directly at Sheele's face. The assassin darted her head backwards from the point and snipped the pre-opened scissors around the blade, cutting it in half and dispelling it. Sheele opened them back up and shoved them at Velvet, closing them around her. Fortunately for Velvet, she was able to leap high into the air to avoid getting cut in half and bore down at the assassin with a hard light hammer raised above her head, swinging it down just like Nora Valkyrie. Sheele quickly held her scissors above herself to block the hammer strike, a shockwave tearing across the ground. The sheer toughness of Extase ended up causing the hard light hammer to crack and then shatter but Velvet had already relinquished her old on hammer before it did, landing on the ground and conjuring up hard light Ember Celica. She bounded forward and unleashed a barrage of punches towards Sheele, who continued to use Extase as a barrier. Even when Velvet tried punching at different angles, Sheele quickly angled the giant scissors to block them all before suddenly turning it onto its side. Thus, one of Velvet's fists collided with the edge of the scissors and the corresponding Ember Celia was sliced into along with her clenched fists. Velvet cried out in pain and pulled her bleeding knuckle away. In order to give herself a little breathing room, she aimed the remaining gauntlet up and fired a shot from it, forcing Sheele to cover her face to block the shot.
Velvet skipped backwards, her bleeding knuckles healing up thanks to her Aura, and got onto one knee as she conjured up a hard light minigun. Sheele got a good look at it once she lowered her scissors and her eyes went wide to shock before she had to move when Velvet started firing it. Sheele ran a circle around Velvet, the latter keeping a bead on her as she fired the massive gun. Just as it ran its course and vanished, a single hard light bullet was able to clip Sheele's shoulder, drawing blood and causing her to crash mid-run. As she rolled into a crouching position, Sheele looked up to see Velvet had conjured up a hard light Floating Array, which was now in its cannon formation to unleash a massive beam that quickly approached Sheele. Once again making use of her Imperial Arm as a shield, Sheele blocked the energy beam, resulting in it getting split into several other beams that cut into the ground, leaving deep trenches and throwing up smoke/dust clouds.
Velvet coughed on the cloud as it also obscured Sheele from herself. Suddenly, the assassin slashed her way through the dust to her left. However, her keen senses had picked up her approach and so she commanded Floating Array's blades to block her swipe. The barrage of slashes she then unleashed with Floating Array dispelled the rest of the cloud and forced Sheele to pull backwards, blocking the attacks as she did. When all the floating blades stabbed against Extase at once, it threw her backwards, leaving her wide open for the blades to rearrange and stab at her exposed form.
So she acted quickly and yelled;
Sheele: Extase!
A blinding light erupted from the scissors and Velvet was accordingly blinded. She shielded her eyes as Sheele closed in on her.
Sheele: You've run out of time!
She slashed out with her scissors but Velvet reacted in the only way she could; leaping high into the air in a mimic of Ruby Rose's jump, summoning to her hands in the process a hard light Crescent Rose. She spun downwards through the air with the scythe, straight towards Sheele, who blocked the downwards slash with Extase. Once Velvet landed, she and Sheele began exchange blows brought upon from spinning their respective weapons about themselves. As this happened, Velvet carefully watched Sheele as she moved and acted before the two women pulled away from each other to mutually catch their breath and glare at each other. Before they could start fighting again, Velvet's Crescent Rose copy fell apart in her hands, leaving her to blink in surprise. And unfortunately for the Faunus, one of her rabbit ears had also been halved and blood leaked from it as the fresh pain drove her to cry out. And in her surprise, Sheele bounded forward and drove both scissor blade points into her stomach, sending her tumbling backwards, saved only by her Aura.
She was able to roll backwards into a crouching position at the same time Sheele had lifted Extase for a downwards slash, her camera in her hands. The resulting flash temporarily blinded Sheele although she still went ahead with the attack. Extase clanged against a hard light copy of itself Velvet brought up to defend herself with before pushing against it to force Sheele to jump backwards. Velvet got to her feet and mimicked Sheele's action to gripping one side of the giant scissors and bounding forwards at the same time she did. Thus, they both unleashed a rapid fire barrage of stabs with the scissors, the points of both of them colliding repeatedly until one final clash resulted in them grinding together, both struggling to overpower the other. For a moment, it looked like Velvet's weapon would fall first as cracks began to appear and Sheele poured more strength into pushing against it.
But this proved to be a mistake as Velvet suddenly opened her duplicate scissors before quickly closing them to trap Sheele's own scissors. With a grunt, she twisted and wrenched them out of the assassin's hands faster than she could comprehend and with her opponent surprised and vulnerable, Velvet spun her fake Extase around herself like a certain other maneuver of Sheele's before slashing out with it.
The Night Raid assassin was thus sliced in half, her upper half landing with a thud on the ground as her upper half fell back. Velvet stepped away, her Extase copy dispelling to let the blood on it land on the ground and gingerly touching her cut ear.
KO!
Outcome[]
Boomstick: Well, that's sad, but it's also kind of what happened in the original series so...no harm done?
Wiz: To give Sheele her due credit, her "loose-screw" made her a formidable fighter, but it was those same fighting skills that Velvet could logically mimic thanks to her Semblance, giving her the means to adapt to her opponent. Not to mention that all of her copied weapons gave her the advantage in versatility.
Boomstick: If Sheele could have cut her way through them all, she could have exhausted her options to fight back. Not to mention that with something that is said to be able to cut through all of creation, she might have won with a lucky hit or two. Unfortunately for her, Velvet had the means to take the win more often than not.
Popup: It’s unknown how Extase’s light would have impacted Velvet’s extra Faunus Senses, if at all.
Wiz: Firstly, she was a fair bit faster than Sheele. Let us explain; whilst characters in Akame ga Kill are later fast enough to dodge lightning, there was a period of time the other assassins of Night Raid spent in the wilderness to improve themselves. Mine and Leone outright say they've been training thoroughly to get to that current level. This was after Sheele had been killed, so her best speed feat was dodging bullets from about 20 feet away, which would require to react in the span of 9 milliseconds. Yet Velvet's teammate Coco, whom she can certainly keep pace with, was able to herself dodge a bullet in 2 milliseconds (Kepekley23).
Boomstick: Thus giving Velvet plenty of opportunities to avoid hits from Extase and deal hits back herself. As a matter of fact, Sheele's Imperial Arm meant she had the overall better defenses since it could tank a blast of 400 kilotons of TNT but the thing was it could only defend one area at a time, and with Velvet's greater speed she could work around it to get in a fatal blow.
Wiz: And considering that a simple bullet in the back was enough to critically injure Sheele, any one of Velvet's hard light weapons had what it took to put her down. Lastly, on the subject of Extase's blinding trump card, the likes of Seryu were able to react in time to counter the attack she made under the cover of it.
Boomstick: Even with her super sharp set of shears enabling her to get the win several times out of a hundred, Velvet's speed and wide arsenal meant Team CFVY's resident Faunus would triumph more often than not. Although with that nasty injury, she's going to need to see a Vel-vet. Oh god, is that racist?
Wiz: The winner is Velvet Scarletina.
Next Time[]
They were artificially made
And seek power as a result
Trivia[]
- Connections: Both are side-characters within their respective series (in RWBY due to being in the supporting character Team CFVE and in Akame ga Kill due to dying rather early, respectively). Both have been outcasts in their lives (since Velvet is a Faunus and Sheele was too clumsy to hold a job) and in spite of their kind personalities have unique fighting capabilities due to unique abilities (Velvet's Semblance and Sheele's skill at killing). They are both close to their respective teams in spite of feeling themselves a liabilities at times and both can also be associated with a bright flash (Velvet via her camera and Sheele through her Imperial Arms' Trump Card).
- Animation Style: 2D.
- OST Idea: 'Cutting Velvet', referring to how Sheele's weapon is a giant pair of scissors and how Velvet is named after a certain kind of parchment.
