Dragon Ball VS Digimon! To fight for honor is an admirable thing, but these two once fallen warriors had to learn that through a very dark path. When met face-to-face, only one can truly emerge the victor, but the answer is anyone's guess…

Vegeta VS Beelzemon is the 1st episode of SlashLion5K's "comeback show" and the 1st episode of Season 4, being the 26th episode overall. Check his user blog for more information. It features the return of Vegeta from the Dragon Ball series, and Beelzemon from the Digimon series in a battle between prideful former villains turned anti-heroes.

Author's Note: While the Beelzemon used in this battle will primarily be the one from Digimon Tamers, use of lore, feats, and inherent techniques from the series' history will be considered fair game, as Digimon lore applies across several pieces of media and are often valid to scale to one another.

Interlude[]

(* Cue Wiz and Boomstick - DEATH BATTLE!*)

Blade: Six long years ago, we showed off our at the time last battle on this site, and left without another word. Since then, it's been silent, almost too much so- But the good news is, that's changed.

Lion: That's right, it's time for a comeback show. Five all-new episodes, ten fighters, some you may know and some you may not, and they're going to duke it out in a no-holds barred battle to the death.

Blade: And for the opening act, we have Vegeta, the Prince of all Saiyans and rival to Goku.

Lion: And Beelzemon, the Demon Lord of Gluttony and rival to Gallantmon.

Blade: To claim their own identity, these proud warriors have traversed many paths, ultimately reaching one conclusion: Fight with your damned life to protect what truly matters to you.

Lion: He's Blade, and I'm Lion, and it's our job to analyze their weapon, armor and skills to find out who would win…

Blade: Hey- That's my li- Agh, whatever… A Death Battle.

Vegeta[]

(*Cue Battle Point Unlimited - Dragon Ball Z OST*)

Blade: Planet Vegeta.

Lion: Wait- Isn't Vegeta a prince?

Blade: I mean, yes, the planet was named Vegeta by King Vegeta, who is the father of Prince Vegeta.

Lion: Yeah, way too many Vegetas one sentence even still. Seriously, this Vegeta guy has one hell of an ego. Imagine ruling an entire planet, and then naming it after yourself.

Blade: Well, yes, certainly, he- Okay, no, enough with the Vegeta stuff.

Lion: I thought we're supposed to be talking about Vegeta here.

Blade: Not that, I mean, all the different Vegetas here! It's getting confusing!

Lion: Okay. Sure. So anyways, this planet is home to the warrior race known as the Saiyans- Who are pretty much single-mindedly focused on fighting, fighting, and then more fighting. Seriously. Fighting's, like- All they think about.

Blade: Naturally, when the evil emperor Frieza appeared alongside his father to declare his ownership of the planet, the Saiyans were… Actually kinda okay with it, because Frieza intended to have them serve as his mercenaries so he could wipe out other planets and sell them to the highest bidder. And that just meant more fighting to them.

Lion: Sounds like they weren't gonna have too much trouble, right? Well, think again! Frieza here, despite being so insanely powerful, was one paranoid motherfucker. Despite their apparent loyalty, he was actually afraid of the Saiyans, and the danger of an uprising by them leading to his demise.

Blade: …So he committed genocide. Of the entire planet. Destroying almost every last Saiyan alive- Save for a select few. You may know Kakarot- Or Goku, the heroic Saiyan raised on Earth who would eventually be the one to defeat him, or Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan who'd been banished to a distant planet- But the one we're talking about today, is the young Saiyan Prince, Vegeta.

Lion: Vegeta, along with this big bald dude named Nappa and Goku's brother, Raditz, were off-world on missions during Frieza's little massacre. Instead of killing them, too, though, Frieza wished to recruit them into his army- Where they were expected to serve as his loyal soldiers.

Blade: Vegeta always hated Frieza, and despite loyally working for him, always had one goal in mind- Become strong enough to kill him, and reclaim his honor as a Saiyan.

(*Cue Vegeta's Theme - Dragon Ball FighterZ OST*)

Lion: Oh, I think he's plenty strong already- Vegeta's a master martial artist, easily at the highest level. He even refers to himself as a super-elite. Plus, he's got a pretty good handle on this Ki thing.

Blade: Ki is a form of life energy that can be harnessed and wielded in combat by any capable fighter. Though many tend to prefer giant, flashy laser blasts, Vegeta…

Lion: Don't try to pretend otherwise, Blade. Vegeta also prefers giant flashy laser blasts.

Blade: No, no, you see- That may be true for his Gallick Gun, but his Lucora Gun is different, instead of one big laser blast, he fires multiple smaller Ki blasts in rapid succession.

Lion: Big Bang Attack. Final Flash. Mouth Blast. Literally the generic Ki blasts. Do I seriously need to go on?

Blade: …Okay, yeah, they're mostly giant, flashy laser blasts. Although there are several key differences in the attacks' structure. Like the Big Bang Attack being more of an explosive ball of Ki, while the Final Flash- Probably his strongest move, is… A giant, flashy laser blast that's just a lot bigger than the rest.

Lion: …Well, at least he can blow himself up?

Blade: Well… Fortunately for Vegeta, his giant flashy laser blasts were never his greatest asset. Since the very beginning, it was his drive, and after battling it out with Goku for the fate of Planet Earth- and losing- he had a new goal in mind. To defeat this low-class warrior, prove himself, and become the strongest in the universe.

Popup: As a Saiyan, Vegeta can benefit from Zenkai Boosts, meaning he gets significantly stronger every time he recovers from a near-death experience.

Lion: Which meant one thing. Training. Lots, and lots of training. Which only intensified when Goku ended up being the one to defeat Frieza instead of him.

Blade: So he trained, and trained, and trained, conceived a child, trained-

Lion: Wait, what?

Blade: It'll be important later. And he trained, until finally, he reached a level of power that only Goku and one other mysterious warrior had before him- Vegeta took upon the very form that had defeated Frieza- The Super Saiyan.

Lion: Along with an all-new natural blond hair dye- Don't ask me how that works, Super Saiyan made Vegeta a hell of a lot stronger than before. And through even more training, he learned to surpass even that, achieving higher grades of Super Saiyan that sacrifice speed for pure muscle mass and power.

Blade: Vegeta put these newfound powers to the test, fighting against the Androids and Cell, all of whom were fearsome opponents, yet, frustratingly, Goku continued to remain above him. And things only went from bad to worse for Vegeta when, right before his very eyes, Goku sacrificed his own life, dying to protect the world from a deadly foe.

(*Cue Goku's Sacrifice - Dragon Ball Z OST - Bruce Faulconer*)

Lion: Vegeta's heart really began to change that day. After that, he had to watch his future son- Yeah, that guy from earlier- Die right in front of him, don't worry, he got better, and without a rival to keep pushing him beyond his limits, Vegeta decided that he'd give up on fighting, opting instead to focus on raising his family.

Blade: Although he continued his training, even achieving the level of Super Saiyan 2, Vegeta stayed true to his word and never fought again… Until Goku returned, and things took a very dark turn.

Popup: While Vegeta has used Super Saiyan 3 in video games and other side media, it is considered non-canon and would be obsolete now thanks to his reaching higher forms. Similarly, Dragon Ball GT is also considered non-canon now, so Super Saiyan 4 won't be considered here either.

Lion: Yeah… Vegeta, even after becoming a family man, still missed his old self. He looked in the mirror and hated not seeing the proud warrior of the Saiyan race he once was. He'd give anything, even his own mind and the lives of thousands of innocents just for the chance to fight his old rival again.

Blade: And that's exactly what he did, for a time- However, it was too late to go back now. Vegeta had already grown to care for his wife, and his son, and in the end, he elected to make the ultimate sacrifice to atone for his crimes. Giving his life to protect the young Trunks, Vegeta died a hero, who would come back with a new drive- Not to defeat Goku or become the strongest- No, to protect his beloved family.

(*Cue Royal Blue - Dragon Ball Super OST*)

Lion: Even without letting go of their healthy rivalry, Vegeta and Goku would become steadfast allies. They trained to achieve even higher heights and defeat any foe that dared come their way- Soon, they'd reach the all-new Super Saiyan God level, which comes free with shiny red hair. He learned not only Spirit Fission to absorb an enemy's Ki directly, but also Goku's Instant Transmission teleportation technique. But when Frieza came back, that still wasn't enough, which led to them attaining the power of Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan… Okay, who comes up with this shit?!

Blade: Also known as Super Saiyan Blue, this form is the highest level of Super Saiyan we currently know of. Which is impressive, considering that at a much weaker state in the level below, Goku was able to clash with Beerus in such a way that the entirety of Universe 7 began to shake and threatened destruction had they kept going- Plus, considering the speed at which those shockwaves were moving, Goku was also punching just as fast. And Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan puts a multiplier on that.

Lion: Oh, but we're not done yet. Vegeta can take this form a step further, calling it Super Saiyan Blue Evolution. But even better than that is what he awakened to after undergoing God of Destruction training. Modeled after the very form of Beerus, a God of Destruction, Ultra Ego is the most powerful form Vegeta has as of yet.

Blade: This form is Vegeta's ego and lust for battle on full display- When he's in this state, he's almost completely driven by the simple hunger for a good fight that exists within all Saiyans, and acts as a parallel to Goku's Ultra Instinct. Although it is possible for the user to lose themselves to their ego and self-indulgence in this form, the boost in power it grants them is exponential, with even pain itself becoming something enjoyable for Vegeta.

Lion: Even this stupidly-named bounty hunter struggled with Vegeta in this form, and he was apparently the strongest mortal in Universe 7 at the time. Plus, being able to tap into Destruction Energy now, he can use Hakai to just erase a motherfucker from existence just by pointing at them.

Blade: Destroying planets is no problem for even the likes of Frieza in his first form, and foes like Cell could blow away the entire solar system with their attacks, both of whom Vegeta has long since left in the dust. In fact, just by powering up, he was capable of destroying an entirely separate dimension. And going back to Dragon Ball's Universe 7, fun fact, it's at least 13 times larger than our own, thanks to this symbolic model and the presence of Hell over there, and Heaven at the top. Safe to say, Vegeta's reached a level where destroying all of that, wouldn't be a problem in the slightest.

Lion: He sure has come a long way from that sociopathic little douchebag who crushes Scouters and spawns dead Internet memes.

Blade: Even though he's faced many a defeat at the hands of his foes, that's because Vegeta has still rightfully earned his pride and egotistical nature. The Prince of all Saiyans is not one to be trifled with, and especially not if you hurt the things he now holds dearest to him.

Vegeta: Oh, is that a fact? Then why were you so surprised when Kakarot turned into a Super Saiyan? I'll tell you why, because your database doesn't cover the battles we had in space. Your bonehead creator picked a fine chapter to omit from your memory banks.

Android 19: Oh?

Vegeta: That's right, my friend. Let me ask you, does a machine like yourself ever experience fear?!

Beelzemon[]

(*Cue Shutsugen - Digimon Tamers OST*)

Blade: Ah, the Digital World. A beautiful, wondrous place, where seven young children were once upon a time sent to experience a grand adventure, one full of-

Lion: Hey. Blade.

Blade: Huh?

Lion: Wrong Digital World.

Blade: Oh. Right… Ahem The Digital World. A cruel and merciless parallel dimension whose barren landscapes and harsh conditions force its Digimon inhabitants to fight to the death on a daily basis just in order to survive and get stronger.

Lion: Naturally, it's in the nature of pretty much every Digimon to skewer each other and drain their data to achieve Digivolution.

Blade: A process through which Digimon, that's short for Digital Monsters, by the way, grow to higher forms and gain new, unfound strength. Since they're lifeforms made of pure data, absorbing data essentially increases their own power. Like a lion eating its prey, for the Digimon, it's a natural instinct, a process necessary for survival.

Lion: It's the circle of life~ You must eat them all~

Blade: …Yeah, it's basically a very dark version of the Circle of Life.

Lion: So, anyways, obviously, some 'mons are better at this than others. And some… Well, they're Impmon.

(*Cue Impmon's Theme - Digimon Tamers OST*)

Blade: Impmon as a species are fairly unremarkable creatures, at first glance. A Dark Digimon of the Virus type, they favor powerful magic attacks and have a weakness for Light-elemental techniques and the Vaccine attribute. Their mischievous nature and devilish appearance may serve as a dead giveaway to their behavior, however, it's all actually a facade to cover up their own internal loneliness.

Lion: Such was kind of the case with this one- An Impmon who hung out with a couple of kids named Ai and Mako. You see, while the natural way is for Digimon to destroy and load each other, an alternative is for them to evolve through a bond with a loving human partner. It's basically the case with all the main characters in this show. Unfortunately for Impy here, though, Ai and Mako were… Not that.

Blade: Being, well, literal young children, these two were rather unfit to care for a sentient living partner like Impmon. They would often fight amongst one another, destroying each others' toys and constantly getting into arguments, with Impmon at the center. Although he tried, things really began to overwhelm the little guy, and ultimately, he couldn't take it any more, and left.

Lion: Yeah, suffice to say, his opinions on humans weren't exactly the highest after that experience. I mean, the kids literally handled him like a stuffed toy. I know they're just kids, but yikes, dude. You don't wanna pop his arm off or anything.

Blade: Impmon would wander around the busy Shinjuku area, heckling young Tamers and their Digimon and spouting the law of the Digital World at them, claiming that having a human partner was useless and would only result in a net detriment.

Lion: Despite how much of an asshole he was, though, these kids and their Digimon, especially this big red 2000s Agumon wannabe named Guilmon, were always nice to him. Probably because they saw that he was really just a lonely little kid with no friends who just seriously wanted to Digivolve.

Blade: Thanks to their kindness, Impmon eventually began to warm up to these children, even helping them out at times and developing what some may call a friendship. However, in the back of his head, he always had that desire- The urge to grow stronger and finally Digivolve to the highest level.

Lion: So, after suffering one too many ass-kickings at the hands of much bigger and much stronger Digimon, Impmon was very susceptible to a Faustian bargain with this big racist dog Digimon- Kill the Tamers he considered his friends for the sake of the Digital World, and be allowed to ascend to his highest form.

Blade: A difficult decision to be sure, but in the end… A deal Impmon chose to make. Consumed by the desire for power and the bitterness from all the defeats he suffered, the once troublesome but well-meaning Impmon was reborn… Now as the cruel and merciless Beelzemon.

(*Cue Seven Great Demon Lords - Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth OST*)

Lion: What the hell, this guy is seriously trying too hard. Leather jacket, fur collar, spiked boots, and he carries around a couple of shotguns? What's next, he rides a motorbike?

Blade: Yes.

Lion: …You have got to be fucking kidding me.

Blade: Beelzemon is an Evil King Digimon, and within the lore, also happens to be one of the Seven Great Demon Lords, a group of extremely powerful Mega-level Digimon representing the seven deadly sins.

Popup: While the Seven Great Demon Lords are not a part of Digimon Tamers, it is still a key part of Digimon lore and gives useful context to learning about Beelzemon as a Digimon. As lore and cosmology is consistent across a lot of the Digimon Multiverse, it's viable to compare a lot of it to the events of the anime, and this Beelzemon, though primarily from Tamers, will be informed with basic information on the species across other media.

Lion: Technically, Lucemon over here is an Ultimate leve-

Blade: Shut up. Anyway, Beelzemon in particular represents the sin of gluttony, and that's definitely reflected in his all-consuming hunger for power.

Lion: Yeah, pretty much as soon as he turned into Beelzemon, almost all of Impmon's moral values vanished into the nether. While Impmon's the kinda guy to shoplift a couple candy bars and feel really bad about it later, Beelzemon is the kind to shoot you, take your stuff, and leave you there without even calling for medical services.

Blade: An interesting difference, considering most Beelzemon apparently have a very prideful nature and would never attack the weak.

Lion: Speaking of attacks, Beelzemon's signature is Double Impact- A barrage of rapid-fire bullets from his cherished shotguns- The Berenjena.

Blade: And if he wants to get up-close and personal, not only is he a deadly melee fighter, his Darkness Claw attack can tear through any enemy who stands in his path.

Lion: Then there's his motorcycle, Behemoth, which is just as effective a weapon as his guns and his claws. Not only does it make him seriously difficult to keep up with, but it also seems to just reappear just fine whenever he needs it, even if it got destroyed previously.

Blade: Armed with these weapons, Beelzemon began a rampage through the Digital World, continuing to challenge and tear apart, draining the powers and abilities of high-level Digimon such as Infermon and even the very Deva Digimon he had a deal with. He'd truly finally achieved his dream- He'd become one of the most powerful Digimon to walk the Digital World. And he couldn't be happier.

Lion: Until the fateful battle with the Tamers where he ended up taking things one step too far, and killed one of their own, Leomon.

(*Cue Omoi - The Biggest Dreamer - Digimon Tamers OST*)

Blade: Beelzemon loaded his fallen opponent's data, proclaiming that he would become the strongest in the Digital World and destroy even the Digimon Sovereigns. Things had escalated so far that even the generally kind Takato declared him beyond redemption. He'd only keep tearing through those in his way as the battle raged on… Until his defeat at the hands of Gallantmon, the very Guilmon that had treated him with kindness all that time ago. Yet when it came down to it, Leomon's very own partner Jeri chose to spare Beelzemon's life.

Lion: In a cruel twist of fate, Beelzemon had been spared by the very person who hated him most in the world. And the impact of what he did hit him like a truck. No amount of atonement would ever make up for what he did, and he knew that. Now with his eyes opened and his worldview shattered, Beelzemon wandered the Digital World, seeking anything that even vaguely resembled a purpose.

Blade: Even after trying and failing to get himself killed and destroyed, the hole in Beelzemon's heart couldn't be healed. He returned to the human world an Impmon, now with no purpose but to look back on his past and reflect, drowning in self-loathing.

Lion: Luckily, though, this tale has one more chapter.

(*Cue EVO - Digimon Tamers OST - WILD CHILD BOUND*)

Blade: Impmon decided he wanted to do something, something to try and redeem himself for his actions, no matter how beyond forgiveness he believed himself to be. He tracked down Ai and Mako, making amends with them and finding that they'd actually become quite reasonable kids, having been heartbroken by Impmon's leaving. Finding purpose once again in protecting these innocent children, Impmon truly accepted them as his partners, and ascended to a form above even the Mega level, now with a new resolve to fight for what's right.

Lion: This is Beelzemon Blast Mode, and he makes the regular Beelzemon look like the Sonic to his Shadow.

Popup: Beelzemon also possesses another higher form using the X-Antibody, but this form won't be considered due to it requiring said antibody, which most standard Digimon don't have in their direct arsenal, and has no relevance to Tamers. The "true form" of Beelzemon is a higher conceptual entity, but only applies to a composite Demon Lord existing across all the Digimon multiverse, and not this specific one. Likewise, the 2010 Beelzemon from Fusion is an entirely separate species and won't be considered for the purposes of this battle.

Blade: But don't let those ominous black wings and deadly-looking arm cannon fool you, Beelzemon Blast Mode is actually a far more peaceful Digimon than his basic counterpart.

Lion: Yeah, according to the Reference Book, this form is achieved when Beelzemon sheds his wickedness and instead maintains a calmer demeanor. His menacing red eyes turn a tranquil green, and his power and spirit have apparently reached their utmost limits. Which definitely matches what we're seeing here. Hell, he's so much stronger now that his profile says that the opponent facing him once he takes this form might as well not even exist anymore.

Blade: Armed with the Deathslinger on his right arm, Beelzemon Blast Mode is capable of firing off destructive energy to destroy any enemy unfortunate enough to face him. Additionally, he does still keep the Berenjena on hand, and can still ride the Behemoth. Not that he needs it or anything, with those shiny new wings.

Lion: His ultimate attack is the Corona Destroyer, a wave of pure annihilation fired from his Deathslinger using a magic circle as the center. Seriously- That is the most metal-looking thing I've seen all day. To top it off, Beelzemon Blast Mode learns some really nifty Wind and Fire skills, and can power up his attacks to double their original strength via Acceleration Boost.

Popup: While only capable of learning these moves in the Cyber Sleuth games, the aforementioned techniques are a part of every Beelzemon's natural growth in those games.

Blade: In this state, Beelzemon is easily powerful enough to destroy the D-Reaper's units, something which proved to be trouble for high-end Mega level Digimon like Gallantmon, Sakuyamon and MegaGargomon. He even defeated Gallantmon in a prior fight, only having been beaten due to a distraction, and this was after he overcame Megidramon, whose very existence threatened the collapse of all networks of the Digital World, the real world, and the higher planes.

Lion: His blaster can also disintegrate whatever poor fucker it shoots on an atomic level, so you know you're fucked if that thing hits you. Man, being a Demon Lord Digimon must be awesome. You get to be a badass and a half, you're way, way stronger than the average Mega-level Digimon, and you get a designated spot in the Dark Area, where time itself apparently doesn't exist.

Blade: Despite the now massive increase in both resolve and power, Beelzemon was still incapable of saving Jeri from the D-Reaper's clutches, as it had assimilated her and was now threatening to eradicate both the human and Digital Worlds. Try as he might, no matter how hard he fought, no matter how much he tried, it just wasn't happening… Not until someone came to lend a hand from beyond the grave.

Beelzemon is seen using the Fist of the Beast King, channeling Leomon's power to break through the D-Reaper's barrier.

Lion: Damn… I think I'm tearing up a little here…

Blade: Fighting tooth and claw to save the very person he'd hurt the most, Beelzemon made the greatest sacrifice, almost giving up his life for her sake. In the end, not only was he saved and officially formed a true partnership with Ai and Mako, but he also won his peace of mind and the very forgiveness he'd desired ever since he'd had his life spared on that fateful day. Impmon returned to the Digital World a new Digimon with a new outlook on life, with a promise to see his friends again one day. And on that day, Beelzemon will spread his wings and harness his powers once again, to protect them with every last ember of the flame that now burns bright in his soul.

Beelzemon: What I did… Is beyond forgiveness. I don't need anyone to tell me that. No matter what I do, I can't change the past. But what I can do, is save Jeri! And let me tell ya- No talkin' eyeball's gonna stop me! CORONA DESTROYER!

DEATH BATTLE![]

(*Cue Limit Valley/Task Canyon - Digimon World Dawn and Dusk OST*)

The wasteland, barren as ever, showed few signs of life as usual. A tumbleweed rolled across the rugged, rocky terrain, the first sign of movement within this desolate valley in several hours. Wind, gentle and yet so very empty, blew across the area, causing the few and far between clumps grass to be pushed back ever so slightly.

To many, this was simply boring. An isolated emptiness that served little purpose other than a lonely tranquility. But for the man standing alone atop a jagged cliff on his lonesome, it served as a calm, a place where he could be on his own and think on how to further his own skills and take them to the next level.

Vegeta looked down at the wasteland from his perch, his eyes scanning each and every corner of it carefully, taking in the color, the condition of the terrain, the rises and falls of the rocky plateaus and jagged surfaces. Not a single detail was lost to his eyes, as he scanned meticulously his entire surroundings. He then closed his eyes, memorizing the entire layout and concentrating now to map it out in his mind. Every small detail slowly printed itself onto the picture he mentally drew, where each little crevice was in the larger rocks, where each tumbleweed rolled, and most importantly for him, the location of each rock on the lowland, that was small enough to be considered just a protruding stone rather than a landmark.

The moment he opened his eyes, Vegeta appeared to vanish almost immediately from the spot he stood atop, and reappeared down next to one of the rocks directly below his position- It was before he even became visible that his leg shot out at the rock, at a 90 degree angle from his torso- Instantly shattering it into nothing but dust and tiny debris. Before the rock's shattering could even process to the human brain, however, Vegeta disappeared just like that, and in similar fashion, demolished every single rock within the canyon, down to the very last one, located right at the center. He would then stop here, standing in the middle of the valley. Despite his impressive feat, satisfaction escaped Vegeta, as he instead wore a deeply angered grimace on his face.

"Just half a second… Not nearly enough…!" he growled, clenching his fist in frustration. By most people's standards, that was amazing, an accomplishment to be touted as legendary, but to the Prince of all Saiyans, it wasn't enough, no, it wasn't even close to enough. He began to go over every detail in his mind, thinking about what he could've done differently to save time and maximize efficiency. He considered flight paths, and the choice of attack he used to destroy the rocks- He also considered how much more training would be necessary to achieve higher levels of speed. Plus, he could afford to approach the rocks in a more straightforward order…

This train of thought would, unfortunately not last long, as suddenly, an intense heat grazed Vegeta's cheek, which he narrowly dodged, sensing it coming and opening his eyes. The fireball flew past him and vanished into the distance, as he turned to face his assailant… Though what he saw left him utterly unimpressed. Standing atop a small rock nearby- One that he'd embarrassingly missed- Was a small purple imp-like creature that looked like something out of Trunks' cartoons. His goofy proportions were only complimented by the red bandana and oversized gloves- And the smug look on his face only served to drive an even greater annoyance within Vegeta.

(*Cue Rocky Field - Dragon Ball FighterZ OST*)

"Yo there, Pineapple Head! Looks like you, uh, missed a spot!" teased Impmon, his grin becoming even wider, clearly enjoying Vegeta's growing irritation. However, this grin quickly turned to a look of panic as Vegeta pointed a hand at him, and with a flash of energy, fired a Ki Blast that barely missed the Rookie Digimon, also vanishing into the distance like an earlier fireball. Impmon sweated a little, before turning his now widened eyes back to Vegeta.

"I don't know what you are, but consider that your warning shot. Now get out- This is no place for a weakling such as yourself."

Vegeta turned back and closed his eyes- Returning to his calculations. However, Impmon was not done with him. Weakling. This spiky-headed jerk had the nerve to call him a weakling. As little as he cared for being strong anymore, mockery was still mockery. He grit his teeth, glaring at the Saiyan, and decided now that he'd teach him a lesson. Once again, a fireball formed at his fingertips, and he prepared to toss it towards the prince.

"I'll show you who's weak, you little-"

Before he could throw his attack, Impmon found himself almost obliterated yet again by another Ki blast- Vegeta had sensed his power before it even came. Now turning back to the Digimon, Vegeta spoke once again, now wearing an amused grin on his face.

"Show me who's weak? Don't make me laugh. I can sense your power, and it's pitiful!" he began, still smirking. "Though if you're that desperate to be annihilated… Be my guest."

He pointed his palm at Impmon once again, charging up another Ki blast- But this time, the Mini Devil Digimon didn't move. He stood his ground, almost as if inviting Vegeta to take the shot. Gritting his teeth, the Saiyan Prince grew more annoyed as his pride felt even more challenged, and finally, he fire off the Ki blast towards the pesky annoyance before him, aiming to send him flying into the stratosphere.

This is not what happened, however. Before the Ki blast could make contact, Impmon began to glow with a bright white light, his body enveloped in a powerful flare of energy which easily obliterated Vegeta's attack upon contact. From within this flash, a taller figure emerged thereafter, Impmon's frame having shifted significantly to this larger and more imposing shape. Dressed in all black, and his three baleful red eyes glaring into Vegeta's and a smirk on his face, a much more powerful foe had now come out to play.

"A transformation, eh… So I suppose you are more than meets the eye," Vegeta began, clearly pleased at the revelation of a strong opponent. He could sense significantly more strength from this foe- And it was definitely worth getting excited over. "Very well, then. You've earned the right to take on Vegeta."

As he pointed his thumb at his own face to introduce himself, a powerful yellow aura surrounded Vegeta, before his hair stood up on end and turned golden. The flaring gold aura around him complimented this well, giving the Saiyan a rather majestic look in the face of his dark foe.

"Vegeta, eh? That's a pretty dumb name you got, blondie. As for me…" began the Demon Lord Digimon.

"They call me… Beelzemon."

Beelzemon v vegeta

Immediately, Vegeta led the fight by rushing directly toward Beelzemon in a burst of speed, his energy trailing behind him. Without hesitation, the proud Saiyan warrior began by pelting the Virus-type with a flurry of punches and kicks, each of which was delivered within a fraction of a second and in quick succession. Beelzemon responded by crossing his arms in front of his chest in a guard, but the assault still noticeably pushed him back, causing some dust to kick up behind him as his foot slid backwards. Finally, Vegeta pointed his palm at Beelzemon and fired off a blast of energy right into the center of his guard, creating a small explosion and blowing him backwards significantly, even as his arms remained crossed.

"Not bad," said the Evil King Digimon, chuckling a little from the display. "That actually kinda hurt. Now it's my turn."

Vegeta couldn't help but grin. He wanted to see the power his opponent had to offer, too.

"Go ahead then. I'd like to see what your answer is to the power of a Super Saiyan."

"Just don't come cryin' to me when you regret asking," taunted the Digimon, reaching for the Berenjena shotguns stowed away on his back and leg. He then aimed them both right at Vegeta, grinning maliciously- But this didn't intimidate the royal warrior in the slightest, who instead just grinned back.

"Double Impact!"

The muzzles of Beelzemon's shotguns began to flash rapidly, as bullets surrounded by dark energy flew towards Vegeta, who responded in kind by firing a flurry of Ki blasts at the shots, with both attacks canceling each other out with explosions of energy, creating sparks of yellow and purple in the air between the fighters. However, the sheer volume of Vegeta's Ki Blasts began to overwhelm Beelzemon, whose bullets quickly ran out after enough shots were fired, forcing him on the defensive. He quickly put his guns away, leaping to the side to evade the Ki Blasts, and running in a circular pattern for a while as Vegeta continued his onslaught. Catching a momentary opening in Vegeta's offense, however, Beelzemon seized the opportunity and lunged towards him, claws outstretched.

"Darkness Claw!" cried the Digimon, swinging his claws inward as sharp nails of dark energy surrounded his already rather pointed claws. Just narrowly, Vegeta managed to evade them with a quick jump backwards, but it wasn't over yet. Beelzemon followed up the initial swing by slashing upwards with one claw, and then slashing inwards with the other. Though Vegeta managed to block the first with his arms, it still tore through his suit and drew blood, with the second breaking his guard entirely and causing a sizeable gash across his chest and torso, as well as sending him flying backwards.

"Gah- Damned bastard…!" Vegeta snarled under his breath, noticing that, had he not taken flight, he'd have most certainly fallen off the plateau they were standing on. Deciding to attack from a distance, Vegeta began flying in the opposite direction from Beelzemon, towards the end of the plateau- But it was only a split second before he noticed the sound of a motorbike revving behind him. He turned around, to see that Beelzemon had summoned Behemoth to his side and was now giving chase to the Super Saiyan.

"You ain't gettin' away that easily, punk! Get back here!" Beelzemon called, as he pulled out his shotguns once again and began opening fire on Vegeta. Gritting his teeth, the Saiyan began to expertly maneuver around in the air and dodge them, while still continuing to fly away- He knew that upon reaching the edge of the plateau, Beelzemon wouldn't be able to follow him- Which would allow him to use one of his more powerful Ki attacks from a distance. Vegeta's thoughts once again came to a halt, though, upon being hit by one of Beelzemon's bullets, which allowed for a barrage of subsequent shots to strike him as well while he was stunned. Still reeling from the pain, the Saiyan Prince was then met with a kick to the face as his adversary leapt off the bike, which vanished into a burst of flames, and sent him flying to the ground below. Upon his foot making contact with Vegeta's face, Beelzemon did a mid-air backflip, landing a few meters away from the crater created by Vegeta being launched into the ground. Still coughing from the dust in his face, Vegeta stood back up, now genuinely taken aback by his foe's strength.

"You're not so tough… What was that about annihilating me, huh?!" the Demon Lord boasted. Holding onto his arm that had been severely damaged by the fall, Vegeta spat out some dust and gave his response.

"Be patient, you fool. Any real display of power takes time."

(*Cue Vegeta's Super Saiyan Theme - Dragon Ball Z OST - Bruce Faulconer*)

Upon making this statement, Vegeta's body began to bulk up as he let out a battle cry, roaring into the skies. A blue aura began to form around him, as the ground itself began to shake from the mere charging up of the Saiyan Prince's power. Tiny rocks scattered across the ground began to tremble, hopping up and down on the barren surface of the wasteland, and cracks began to form on the terrain. Beelzemon watched in awe as Vegeta's muscles relaxed, the shaking ground calmed, and he was now faced by a freshly powered up opponent- Vegeta had entered Super Saiyan Blue. And despite seemingly only undergoing a cosmetic change, this was only in appearances. The seasoned Digimon warrior knew that his opponent was now also exponentially more powerful than he'd been before.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, monster, but I had to be sure. Sure that you were worthy of seeing me take this form."

Vegeta promptly planted his feet into the ground, the mere act breaking it and leaving a perfect footprint on the rocky surface. He breathed out, and took a combat stance.

"Be proud. You have the esteemed privilege of fighting a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan- One who's evolved beyond even the gods!"

"You don't got many good names, huh? You and your dopey transformations."

Beelzemon got into a stance as well, ready to pull out both his shotguns.

"Come on, then."

(*Cue Time Limit - Yu Yu Hakusho OST*)

Vegeta rose to the challenge, bounding towards his foe with such force it made the ground shake again. Immediately bracing himself, Beelzemon elected not to pull out the Berenjena, instead outstretching his hand to catch the incoming punch from Vegeta. This act alone caused him to be forced back, as the two wrestled for a moment, Beelzemon trying to hold Vegeta back, Vegeta trying to push through. However, a sudden glimmer of light from below distracted Beelzemon, who turned his eyes down just in time to see the oncoming Ki blast from Vegeta's free hand- Unfortuantely, dodging it meant letting go of Vegeta's hand, a grave mistake as the newly transformed fighter's fist smashed into his face directly, before a knee to the stomach caused Beelzemon to cough out in pain- And this knee would then turn to a kick, knocking him into the air. Before he could recover in time, Beelzemon would next feel something heavy hit his spine, sending him plummeting back down to the ground and leaving a massive crater. Vegeta, having teleported behind his foe, followed up the launch by pulling his arms back to the side, and charging up a ball of purple Ki, causing the ground to shake from his power alone.

"Gallic Gun!"

A massive stream of Ki emerged from Vegeta's hands as he thrust them forward, employing his signature technique against his demonic rival. Before he could react, Beelzemon found himself met by an all-consuming wave of violet energy, laying complete and utter waste to the already ruined grounds they were fighting on. The resulting explosion was enough to completely annihilate the area, blowing a massive chasm into the terrain, within which Beelzemon barely hung onto the jagged rocky walls using his claws, dug deep into the earth so as not to fall into the pool of bubbling lava beneath him. Sadly, he didn't have much time to rest, as Vegeta would soon swoop down right at him, having sensed out his energy. Seeing his foe coming, Beelzemon quickly pulled out a shotgun from his back, firing right at Vegeta. While it was dodged, it bought him enough time to dig his foot into the wall, and launch himself towards a nearby platform with a leap, landing safely. Time was still short, regardless, as Vegeta quickly changed courses and continued to shoot towards him, this time going for a kick- However, Beelzemon was ready this time, and stepped back just enough to avoid the kick, ducking a little as well, and delivering a strong right hook to Vegeta's face. Though legitimately hurt, Vegeta recovered quickly and brought down his own fist on Beelzemon with a haymaker. The Duelist of Finality stood his ground, however, and slammed his knuckle right into Vegeta's stomach from below. Fortunately for him, this was enough to win the exchange, as it caused the Z-Fighter to cough and spit with widened eyes, stunning him. It was a good enough opportunity for a follow-up, which came in the form of a dark shotgun blast directly to Vegeta's gut, sending him flying with a Destruction Cannon attack.

"He's toughened up…" muttered Beelzemon under his breath, watching as Vegeta flew into the wall and left an indentation upon collision. Recovering quickly, the royal-blooded alien stood where he was sent flying into and dusted himself off. He couldn't help but smile a little. A decent bit, actually. This Beelzemon fellow- Whatever he was- Was almost as enjoyable an opponent as Kakarot. And he found himself very happy to be realizing that. He took off, flying right at the Digital Monster, surrounded by his aura and heart pounding with excitement. As he drew near, he noticed Beelzemon raising his guard again, and chuckled. Raising two fingers to his forehead, Vegeta used Instant Transmission to appear behind his mark yet again, catching him off-guard and quickly kicking him off the rock platform. As he fell towards the molten pool below, though, Beelzemon thought fast, sprouting four black wings momentarily and soaring upwards- Which caught Vegeta both off-guard and hinted to him that his opponent was full of surprises beyond what he'd already seen- And that just made his smile even bigger.

Beelzemon soared onto another platform, from where he took aim with the Berenjena once again and fired off another barrage of dark bullets using Double Impact. Vegeta quickly began flying around the perimeter of the crater, cleanly evading the shots, before he found an opening from which he rushed in again, a mach cone forming around his body along with the veil of Ki already surrounding him- Which easily deflected more incoming bullets as they came, thus allowing him to attack Beelzemon with a rush of strikes and kicks once he got close. Although he was quick to react, this still resulted in one of Beelzemon's shotguns being knocked right out of his hand and sent flying into the lava below. Furious but with no time to grieve the loss of his beloved weapon, the Demon Lord of Gluttony instead channeled his anger into his counterattacks, using his own claws and legs to fight back against Vegeta's offense. The two clashed intensely, fists, claws and kicks all meeting as the mere impacts were enough to create shockwaves that shook the crater and at large the entirety of the badlands, causing the walls surrounding them to crumble and fall apart, and consequently the lava to start bubbling violently as well as chunks of rock sank into it. As the combatants' fists met in a perfect clash, the lava reached the peak of its instability, bursting through the walls and completely overflowing the area as the rock around them crumbled apart and broke. Yet, the fighters remained undisturbed by this, and instead they kept fighting even as the platform they stood on fell into the lava, flowing along the river of red like a boat. The ravaged stone walls around them only continued to crumble, dust pouring from all the cracks and crevices and into the burning liquid. The seemingly endless clash only finally came to an end when Vegeta and Beelzemon both punched each other in the face at the exact same time, a moment that reminded the former of a certain past battle he had with Kakarot. Immediately, both went flying a considerable distance, Beelzemon managing to use his claws as he flew backwards to stick to a wall and Vegeta managing to regain his flight. For a moment, the opponents simply breathed, taking a rest from their intense battle. Their eyes locked, their expressions burning with some strange combination of respect, admiration, and anger. It was an experience neither ever wanted to forget… But just like this moment, one of them would have to end it sooner or later.

Beelzemon launched himself off the rock wall, jetting in Vegeta's direction at breakneck speeds. In turn, the prideful Saiyan warrior soared forth to meet the challenge head-on, their arms colliding in the middle just as Beelzemon's wings sprouted back to keep him aloft. This was, however, only momentary, as the Dark Area denizen managed to win the clash by quickly pulling the Berenjena shotgun he still had out of its holster on his leg and firing a bullet right into Vegeta's side, pushing him back with an agonized cry, and then swinging wide with his claw in an inwards arc to draw another spurt of blood and force his foe to pull back. Landing on a nearby patch of solid ground in the lava river's banks, Beelzemon retrieved his lost Berenjena shotgun that had been carried there, and opened fire once again. Vegeta effortlessly dodged most of the shots, as expected, but the cunning smile on Beelzemon's face indicated his true plan, as he suddenly stopped shooting momentarily, just to concentrate and fire off a particularly precise attack.

"Heartbreak Shot!" he called, as the bullet, surrounded by dark energy, cut through the air and streaked towards its target. Vegeta motioned to avoid it, however, his timing was off due to the delay, and he suddenly found himself stunned. He coughed up blood. His vision began to blur, and the pain finally registered. It was a sharp pain, in his chest. The bullet had pierced right through his heart.

Putting away his guns, Beelzemon relaxed, believing the battle to be won. Vegeta was clearly struggling to even stand, but he'd live- It wasn't a full-power attack or anything- Yet still definitely enough to make a target pass out. It wouldn't be long now until… Things did not go as planned. His face fell, as soon as he saw Vegeta's mouth curl into a smile- One full of excitement, but even more than that, adrenaline, and very thinly veiled anger.

(*Cue Divine Hate - Devil May Cry 3 OST*)

"What did you think, huh? That I was gonna roll over and die from an attack like that?"

Vegeta's aura alone began to cause the entire crater to come apart, as if nature itself was trembling in fear. Even Beelzemon himself felt a little nervous at whatever power he'd just awakened, and it only sunk in as he heard the next few words out of his opponent's mouth.

"You're nothing… Just a fool… I AM A WARRIOR! THE SAIYAN PRINCE, VEGETA!"

The entire area around them exploded, Vegeta's power skyrocketing as the whole place was now nothing but a mess of fire and stone- Not that it mattered, because as soon as Vegeta struck Beelzemon even once, their arena would change, first to the sky as he was launched upwards by the incoming kick from his opponent he barely had time to even guard against, and then to the nearby city, as Vegeta teleported right in front of him and blasted him into the horizon using a barrage of devastating Ki blasts. Just as he crashed through the window of a skyscraper and fell out into the street below, the Demon Digimon barely had time to recover before he was already found by Vegeta's pursuit. The self-proclaimed warrior began walking towards him, dusting off his gloves, ignoring the cars and people who were now haphazardly moving about in a panic.

"We Saiyans get stronger every time we come close to death. You'd do well to remember that next time," he began, as he pointed a hand at Beelzemon, ready to finish him off. Much to his surprise, though, his opponent was… Laughing. Beelzemon was still laughing in the face of what seemed like defeat. Vegeta's interest was piqued again, as his rage state wore off. Did this opponent have even more to offer? He wanted to know- No, he had to. No enemy hid his potential from Vegeta- To hold back was an insult to everything he was- A warrior, a Saiyan, a fighter. He lowered his hand, prompting an immediate reaction from his opponent.

Music Stops

"What's the matter? Ain't got the guts to finish me off?"

"You're holding back still, aren't you? I'm not done with you until you've given me everything, one-hundred percent of what you've got. Do you understand?! I will NOT be insulted by such half-hearted weakness!"

Beelzemon smirked, wiping some blood off his chin and standing back up. Despite his injuries, he seemed okay- Vegeta began to doubt that that Ki blast would've actually finished him off from this sight. Not that he himself had suffered any critical injuries yet, either. For a moment, the two stared each other down again.

"For the record, I wasn't holdin' back… Fighting you just reminded me how much I love a good rumble. I ain't no monster anymore, but battling is what's in my code. I was just thinkin' about how fun this is."

"Oh, really? I'm flattered. But I can tell you're not at full power yet- And neither am I. So hurry up and show me your everything!"

"Yeah… I was thinking it's about time to ramp things up a little myself. Lemme just give you one word of advice…"

(*Cue One Vision - Digimon Tamers OST - Takayoshi Tanimoto*)

Beelzemon's blood–red eyes began to take on a calmer color, slowly turning lighter and lighter into yellow, before becoming a tranquil green. Four majestic black wings sprouted from his back, almost as if tearing their way out- His body also expanded, growing even taller than his already impressive height, and a cannon began to form over his right arm, metal overlapping around it until he was now holding a fully-formed blaster. Beelzemon Blast Mode, with one flap of his wings, took to the air, staring down his opponent like a bird seeing its prey.

"Don't disappoint me, y'hear?"

Vegeta's face showed nothing but awe. The power he was sensing was off the charts. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen before. The majestic fighter standing before him was truly one of a kind, a magnificent opponent with whom he'd cherish every single second of their fight. His gaping mouth once again became a smile, and his aura grew a hundredfold. His hair stood on end. It turned a royal blue. The Evolved state, he knew, was the bare minimum needed to keep up with someone of this magnitude.

"Let's take this somewhere private, shall we? I'd hate to be responsible for any more collateral damage."

"Took the words right outta my mouth, Pineapple Head."

With that simple agreement, both of them took off, soaring across the sea from the pier they were at, and into the distance. During this brief journey, they merely thought internally about how wonderful the fight had been so far- Certainly, the climax would have to live up to that. Both of them resolved to not disappoint themselves, or their rival. They'd draw out every last bit of potential they had during this battle. They had to- It was only right.

It wasn't long until a nearby island made itself visible to them- Several miles out at sea, in an island in the middle of nowhere- It was perfect. They could go all-out here, without any holds barred. Beelzemon was the first to touch down, his feet coming to rest on the soft ground atop a high platform in the center of the isle. Vegeta landed on a similar platform across him, and once again, they briefly stared each other down. Obviously, the next logical step would be to keep fighting. But they were instead interested in each right now. Not exactly sizing each other up, though, moreso curiosity in each other's character- Curiosity had taken over, for a bit. The silence finally broke once Vegeta decided to speak.

"So then, Beelzemon, was it? Tell me- What is it that's driven you to reach such a remarkable level of power? What makes you fight? Do tell."

Beelzemon didn't take this question as out of left field. He'd been meaning to ask something similar himself- He supposed it'd be only fair to answer.

"I am a Digimon- It's in my nature to love fightin'. Though if you really wanna make it sappy and all that junk, there's some people I gotta protect. So I'll fight for 'em- Even if it means I die doin' it."

Vegeta pondered this answer for a bit. He found himself relating to this creature- Like he actually understood him. It was strange. He wasn't quite looking into a mirror, but the things he was hearing from Beelzemon, they made sense to him. And it wasn't long before he had his own question shot right back at him, either.

"And what about you? What makes you wanna get stronger and fight, huh?"

Vegeta wasn't exactly fond of the tone in which Beelzemon addressed him, but he humored him all the same. He had, after all, given his own question a proper answer.

"Hmm, perhaps it's because we Saiyans are all fighters at heart. Or perhaps it's because there's someone who I must one day surpass- Or because there's some things I have to protect, too. Maybe it's all of them."

Here he was, the prince of all Saiyans, pouring his heart out to a purple gremlin who randomly chucked a fireball at him earlier that morning. He was telling him things he wouldn't even dream of telling even Kakarot, but why? He himself didn't know. And for Beelzemon, the answer was a deep, resounding one that he found himself strongly agreeing with. That dream to surpass others and become the strongest echoed in his mind, faint whispers of a time long past. And the rest was self-explanatory. Obviously, he'd never say it aloud- But he felt a strong kinship with Vegeta. As if they knew each other. Like they were not just already acquainted, but maybe even friends. He quickly quashed that notion in his mind. Sap wasn't his thing. But it remained in the back. He was satisfied with what he heard, and the look on Vegeta's face spelled that the same was true on his end.

"Does that satisfy your curiosity?" inquired the prince, drawing the demon's attention back to the present. With a nod, Beelzemon urged they continue the fight. "Yeah, good enough. We good to go now?"

"Yes," Vegeta replied, powering up. "Let's get started."

(*Cue Dragon Soul - Dragon Ball Z Kai OST - Takayoshi Tanimoto*)

This time, they took a few seconds to get moving, taking their time as they walked towards the edge of their respective platforms. They slowly began to speed up into a run, before taking off simultaneously. Vegeta made the first move, flying away from Beelzemon in the middle and attacking with a Ki blast, which was quite easily swatted away using the Deathslinger. From there, Beelzemon attacked next, taking aim at Vegeta and rapid-firing small bursts of reddish pink energy towards him from the weapon's opened maw.

"Corona Blaster!"

Despite their small size, Vegeta could sense that the incoming attacks were definitely powerful. He took defensive action without taking even a second to breathe, using the Lucora Gun to destroy the shots with. He then darted at the demonic creature with a burst of energy surrounding him to signify his effort, throwing a punch, which, while it was evaded, created an air pressure strong enough to send Beelzemon flying with a shockwave. In spite of the powerful attack, though, the Demon Lord was undeterred. He regained his stance mid-air, and clenched his fist, from which an energy orb appeared, and he launched it towards Vegeta- Calling upon an ability he'd learned from defeated opponents in the past. The ball shot in the general direction of its target, who used another barrage of energy blasts to try and destroy it. Much to his chagrin, this wasn't enough, and forced him to try and dodge, heading downwards towards the ground, and then flying up again.

The fight had now turned into a high-speed chase between Beelzemon's Primal Orb and Vegeta, who weaved away from it, and then turned to head in Beelzemon's direction to try and disrupt its course. He figured attacking the source would be the best way to get rid of such an annoyance, so he charged up an energy wave in his palm to fire at Beelzemon. As soon as he launched it and forced his adversary to dodge, Vegeta noticed the Primal Orb vanish, sighing in relief. He proceeded to give chase again, intending to keep up the pressure and force Beelzemon to stay on the defensive.

"Don't fly too close to the sun, Pineapple Head! Spider Shooter!"

Upon calling this attack, Beelzemon harnessed the power of Infermon, launching a series of smaller, concentrated bullets down at the approaching fighter and forcing him to dodge sideways, uttering "Bastard…" under his breath lightly- Winning himself the high ground as he now took the offensive. Not even taking a second to think, Beelzemon flew downwards, as a powerful blue aura surrounded his claws and he sliced at Vegeta with a Wind Claw attack, bringing forth a spurt of blood and following up with Meteor Fall, returning to his higher position in the air and summoning three burning rocks that quickly descended at the intrepid Saiyan prince. Vegeta quickly got back his bearings, and used the Lucora Gun again to destroy the meteors, reducing them to dust- Yet he was still on the defensive, because as soon as he did that, Beelzemon crashed into him surrounded by fire using Wolkenapalm, blasting him into the ground and forming a big, round crater. Keeping up the pressure still, Beelzemon followed this up by firing his Corona Blaster into the crater and at Vegeta, who just barely recovered in time and rolled to the side to evade. The Devil Digimon was still yet to slow down on his onslaught even after all that, though, and fired off a Destruction Cannon from his blaster, sending the dark blast into the crater where Vegeta stood. It struck the ground and created an explosion of darkness, leaving a massive crack along the entire surface of the island.

"That oughtta do it…" Beelzemon huffed, having used a lot of power to pressurize Vegeta, who was nowhere to be seen- An indication of his defeat. He spread his wings, wondering where his opponent was now, but his answer came as his eyes turned to his right as he noticed a blue light illuminating the entire right side of his face.

If his Instant Transmission were even a split second too late, Vegeta would likely have been done in there, but in that moment, he'd finally escaped the Demon Lord's merciless onslaught, just barely managing to avoid the Destruction Cannon. He had his palm pointed right at Beelzemon, a large orb of blue Ki swelling ominously in front of it.

"Say your prayers."

There was no time to dodge or react- Beelzemon's eyes just widened as the attack shot directly towards him, a pulsating ball of pure destruction heading towards him point-blank at impossible speeds.

"Big Bang Attack!"

The moment it made contact with Beelzemon, the ball erupted into a massive explosion that caused the entire island to crumble apart below them, even causing the sea to violently churn and roar, sending waves along the surface and creating a massive vortex- And in front of it all stood Vegeta, arms crossed and proud of his victory in a battle well-fought.

While he stood enjoying his victory, Vegeta didn't see coming what happened next- He didn't even realize it until it already grabbed him. Shocked and in a state of panic, Vegeta looked down to see Beelzemon's outstretched arm from within the smoke and debris gripping around his waist. As the obscurity of the dust dissipated, the battle-damaged, yet still very much alive Digimon remained airborne, and now had Vegeta in his clutches. His blaster was now damaged, crumbling away in his hands, but he still held on to it, panting and huffing in exhaustion. All that weakening, and it still wasn't enough to quell the one thing he was now being driven by.

His rage.

(*Cue Heavy Violence - Naruto OST*)

"That was a gift from Mako… I'll make you sorry you ever did that… I'LL MAKE YOU PAY!"

Vegeta stood no chance. The incoming Data Crusher attack from Beelzemon caused him to cry out in pain, and sent him reeling backwards. The Digimon roared furiously as he shot towards him like a bullet on fire, punching at him over and over again with his left arm. Although he barely managed to block, Vegeta could still feel the impact of each attack, and they shook him to his core with every blow. After a while of being pushed back, he grit his teeth. This was starting to get unsustainable, even if the pain was only getting him more riled up. He concentrated his Ki, focusing before releasing a barrier-like burst outwards that pushed away Beelzemon, who remained undeterred nonetheless, his rage only being fuelled instead.

"Argh… Give me the strength I need!"

Calling out to the skies, Beelzemon raised a fist to the air, only for… Nothing to happen. His anger came to a screeching halt, now replaced with confusion. He turned to Vegeta, who was now charging up another Big Bang Attack, from the looks of it, and then moved his gaze to his blaster. The sight of the weapon alone let it sink in- He was a protector. Blind anger and pure battle instinct isn't what drove him anymore. It was even part of what he answered Vegeta with… He shut his eyes, concentrating…

(*Cue MAKUAKE - Digimon Ghost Game OST - Yoshimasa Masukura*)

And saw two figures in front of him. Who were… Unusually his own size. He looked down at his hands- Red gloves… He was Impmon right now, standing in the middle of a city street. And the children before him. They were his partners… Peace washed over his mind as he saw them, even if he knew it wasn’t literal. He had to win this, for them. He knew this- And evidently, they were here to remind him of that, as they opened their mouths to speak.

"Blast all the bad guys! We’re counting on you, Impmon!"

"We sure love you."

Beelzemon opened his eyes as Ai and Mako's words rang through his head. They'd almost turned back to their shade of red for a second there, but now they were back to their natural green. His wings, which had sagged a little and lost a few feathers, spread majestically once more. And as Vegeta's Big Bang Attack shot towards him, he clenched his fist and a powerful orange aura surrounded it.

"Big Bang…"

"Fist…"

"ATTACK!"

"OF THE BEAST KING!"

The same blue orb of destruction Vegeta used earlier tore through the skies, meeting the attack that emerged from Beelzemon's knuckle, Leomon's power coming to his aid in the form of an aura blast shaped like a lion's head.

Time seemed to slow as the attacks flew through the air to meet in the middle. A brilliant explosion of light encased the skies around them, the clashing attacks engaging in a desperate power struggle- But the victor was clear. The Fist of the Beast King blew a hole right through the Big Bang Attack, causing it to blow up on the spot, and hit Vegeta square in the chest, knocking the wind out of him. For a moment, he too, felt like he was fading in and out between life and death- And then four things came to his mind. Trunks. Bulla. Bulma. Kakarot. He wouldn't be defeated. Not as long as those four were still on this planet. He had to protect his family, and he had to be the one to defeat his rival- He was a warrior- He was the prince of all Saiyans. He could not lose. But at this rate, there was no chance he had at winning… He had to be strong enough to protect them, yes, he had to… But first, he had to win this fight. He could feel all the other thoughts fading, due to the pain and adrenaline rushing through his mind. He could barely think about anything but winning. No opponent had given him this kind of struggle, but he had to overcome that obstacle to achieve any of his other goals. He had to be strong if he was to protect them, and if he was to surpass Kakarot. He had to give in, to keep himself conscious. He had to be the strongest of them all- He had to give it all to Ultra Ego.

A burst of power shook the sky as Vegeta's strength increased tenfold. He let out a scream in indication of his rising strength, before settling down and breathing out. There was no need for another staredown. There was no need for words. Both Beelzemon and Vegeta just looked into each other's eyes with nothing but respect. A respect that could only be shared between two warriors who had traded blows. One warrior having achieved his latent power by remembering why he fights, the other by casting aside everything but pure self-indulgence, so he could win this fight and continue to be strong enough to protect what he cares for.

The proud anti-heroes resumed their battle wordlessly. Their fists clashed, legs smashing into each other, their full power behind every attack they delivered. Vegeta's grin grew even wider with every strike- Only the most worthy of opponents could satisfy him when he used Ultra Ego, and this was absolutely it. Beelzemon found it impossible to feign disappointment either- The strongest foes were the only ones who could push even Blast Mode to its limits, and Vegeta was the epitome of a strong enemy. Each clash left them wounded, yet they ignored it for the sake of fighting this worthy foe, for the sake of this battle that would make them stronger and push them to even greater heights. So they could protect what mattered. So Impmon could return to Ai and Mako, and boast about how he was the coolest 'mon on the block. So Vegeta could mark himself as the strongest. That's why they had to win, at all costs.

The exchange broke off, as Vegeta began to fly upwards, being chased closely from behind by Beelzemon. They exchanged words once again, now of nothing but respect and exhileration, not even bothering to veil it with a tough guy act.

"You say you're a Digimon, don't you? So that means there are even more like you?"

"Yeah. I bet you wanna fight 'em, huh?"

"Oh, yes. I'll admit- You're the strongest foe I've ever had the pleasure of facing in battle. Even Kakarot has never given me a fight like this!"

"Hah. So you got a rival, do you? Now that'd be a fun test of my skills!"

They fought as they conversed, Vegeta using Lucora Gun to force Beelzemon to swerve around and firing a Gallick Gun towards him once he had him where he wanted. Beelzemon was deft enough to evade them in time, and retaliated using Hell Crusher, blasting Vegeta with dark energy he also barely dodged. In that moment, Beelzemon quickly pulled out the Berenjena and fired a single shot, which managed to hit its mark, but didn't cause him to flinch as instead he took the pain with a grin and began to approach Beelzemon again. Vegeta was now the one giving chase, a manic grin on his face. Massive shockwaves shook the skies as they clashed, energy blast meeting energy blast as they attacked each other with everything they had. The sky turned dark, almost purple, consumed by the aura exerted by the relentless battle that was ensuing.

Lasers from the Deathslinger sliced through the air like a light show, as Vegeta skilfully evaded them, counterattacking with Ki blasts. These, too, missed their mark, due to the effortlessness with which Beelzemon's wings carried him through the sky. He even blasted some of Vegeta's attacks with Corona Blaster, destroying some of them and trying to hit the alien warrior for pressure.

As the battle raged on, the seas below began to dance to its rhythm, the pure power of the attacks bending nature itself to their will. With every explosion, the clouds parted, every flash of light summoned lightning with it, rain falling upon the rivaled warriors. They struck each other again and again, coming to physical blows, and clashing blasts, their power making the world tremble, yet to them, this was the most fun they'd ever had in their lives.

"You're somethin' else, Pineapple Head. I've never felt this good in a long time!"

"Does that insult not get old to you? Though you can rest assured, I agree!"

Vegeta streaked at Beelzemon full-force, cleaving through the air itself to deliver his next punch. Without a moment wasted, Beelzemon perfectly intercepted the attack, grabbing Vegeta's fist and thrusting his knee into his gut- Yet all this did was make Vegeta's manic grin even wider, the power of Ultra Ego driving him beyond his limits and making even the sharpest pains feel like a pleasure. He cried out as he unleashed a burst of Ki from his palms, forcing back Beelzemon, but not for long as he swiftly regained ground and met Vegeta's follow-up attack with a direct punch to the face, while taking a punch to the gut himself. Both of them were pushed back by this, but kept going, letting out their battle cries- Beelzemon one of determination, and Vegeta one of sheer thrill. They traded blows, over and over and over again, knees slamming into ribs, fists smashing into both faces and stomachs, legs nearly knocking off heads- Yet despite everything, both refused to go down. Beelzemon was panting in exhaustion, unwavering yet wounded, while Vegeta, completely consumed by his lust for battle, was laughing in pure, undistilled joy. One more time, they engaged, clashing and creating a massive shockwave that caused thunder to crash into the seas around them- Yet, in this clash, Vegeta proved victorious, as he suddenly kicked upwards- Hard- And sent Beelzemon flying past even the clouds. He then shot upwards himself, unleashing a punch to the Digimon's gut, and a kick to send him sideways, but he was able to recover in time and block the second attack, kicking Vegeta away instead.

"Corona Blaster!"

Once again employing his Deathslinger, the Ultra-level shot Vegeta several times, stunning him with the attacks, and then blasted him one more time for good measure. Yet even still, Vegeta seemed to be unwavering, smiling even as he was panting from his own tiredness.

"This is one of the greatest fights… I've had in my life," he proclaimed, gathering his Ki for a final attack. "But I know I'm at my limit… So here's everything I've got. Give me your all, Beelzemon!"

"Right back at ya, Pineapple Head…" Beelzemon agreed, as he raised his Deathslinger and took aim at Vegeta, who flew up high above him, putting his hands together. "About time we ended this."

Beelzemon used the Deathslinger to draw a magic circle, before pointing it at the center of the circle, and opening the weapon's maw as he took direct aim at Vegeta, whose hands were now glowing with a powerful yellow Ki.

"Final…"

"Corona…"

"FLASH!"

"DESTROYER!"

At the exact same moment in time, as if in perfect sync, both of them fired their most powerful attacks at each other, causing a brilliant clash of pink and yellow streams that pushed each other back and forth at the center, creating waves of pure destruction through the sky and splitting the clouds apart. Vegeta's Ki and Beelzemon's energy were nearly evenly matched, locked in a desperate struggle to try and overcome the other. Beelzemon gave it his all, but so did Vegeta… However, between the two, the clear winner was still the Corona Destroyer, as its raw power slowly began to overwhelm the Final Flash- An unacceptable result for Vegeta. Yet try as he might, he couldn't overpower it. He closed his eyes, trying to muster all the energy within to try and push through- Yet rather than the raw fighting instinct overtaking him in this moment, Vegeta instead saw Trunks- And Bulma, and Bulla, and even Kakarot in his mind.

"Hey, dad- We going to the amusement park?"

"Vegeta- You'd better be there at the party, or else!"

"Hey, Vegeta! Wanna go train with Whis?"

A smile appeared on his face, as Vegeta reclaimed his sanity, and he forced his full power into the blast coming out of his hands, overwhelming the Corona Destroyer.

"You put up a good fight- But I am the Prince of all Saiyans! And I AM WITHOUT EQUAL!"

The Final Flash was fast approaching Beelzemon, who clenched his teeth, thinking of Ai, and Mako, and Jeri, and Takato, Guilmon… Everyone who counted on him, too, and in that split second, those thoughts were enough to draw out everything he had.

"I ain't your equal… 'Cause I AM MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE!"

The Deathslinger's cracks grew bigger and bigger, as the stream of energy fired from it expanded greatly. It was overflowing, pulsating, and would probably destroy the weapon soon from its sheer volume. Yet it was also enough. Enough to overwhelm Vegeta's best. The Saiyan Prince, his attack consumed by the chaotic flare of power approaching him, closed his eyes, his energy running out as his hair reverted to black, going limp in the air from exhaustion as he was consumed by the blast- Whose toll on Beelzemon was also immense, draining him of practically all his power as the Deathslinger finally shattered from the overflow of energy, which petered out after it overcame Vegeta, and left Beelzemon totally drained. Closing his eyes and reverting to his Rookie form, Impmon plummeted towards the sea below.

"Heh… Kakarot's going to want to hear this…" said Vegeta, as he threw another kick, before flying forward and throwing a flurry of punches. "I can hardly wait to go back and tell him."

The halo over his head was indicative that he was, for the time being, dead. Yet this wasn't any excuse to him to be slacking off on his training. In fact, Vegeta was more serious than ever with this new powerful foe in mind.

"Are you sure you don't just want me to revive you now and train with Goku?" inquired Whis, overseeing Vegeta's training as he pushed himself further and further.

"Are you kidding?! Of course I'm sure! With the experience of that battle, I'm positive that this training will finally be what leads me to surpassing Kakarot! Don't revive me until I say so!"

"If you wish," Whis stated. "I won't deny you your privacy."

Meanwhile, back on Earth…

(*Cue Costa Del Sol - Final Fantasy VII OST*)

"Impmon… Oh, Impmon…"

Impmon's nose twitched a little. He could smell something. It smelled… Tasty. His nose twitched again. Was it bread? He opened his eyes to see what was being held up in front of him. It was bread! He quickly snatched it out of the claws of the creature holding it, a red creature resembling a small dinosaur. Next to him was a boy with messy brown hair, who was the voice he'd heard while he was still unconscious- Unmistakably, he'd been found somehow by Takato and Guilmon.

"What the… What are you guys doin' out here in the middle of the ocean?!"

Takato blinked twice. Impmon looked around- He wasn't floating in the sea- He was at Takato's house.

"We should be asking you that. Guilmon and I thought we'd go fishing for a bit. Only when we got a bite, it turned out to be you instead. Why were you there in the first place?"

Impmon got up, processing what just happened, before he crossed his arms and looked away.

"Ehh, none o' your business!"

"C'mon, Impmon, I'll share my bread with you," offered Guilmon, holding out a bun and waving it at his friend. Impmon glanced at it for a second, but managed to control himself.

"Nope! Absolutely not!"

"It's full of chocolate…"

This was, luckily, enough to make Impmon's ears perk up, and his eyes widen.

"Chocolate? Well, why didn't you just say so?! I'll tell you everythin', anythin' you wanna hear! Just, uh, gimme that bread first."

Much to his chagrin, they didn't seem to notice that request at the end. Instead, both Tamer and partner were chuckling, trying to stifle their laughter.

"Hey- Why are you laughin'?! WHY ARE YOU LAUGHIN'?!"

(*Cue SLASH!! - Digimon Rumble Arena Ver.*)

Lion: Vegeta pointed at himself with his thumb before the fight. No wonder he lost!

Blade: Vegeta was a formidable fighter and one of the strongest characters the Dragon Ball universe has to offer, but Beelzemon was simply in a whole other league.

Lion: Yeah, there's no doubt that Veggie's the more skilled and experienced fighter- I mean, he's a lot older and he trains a lot more frequently, plus, combat's pretty much, like, his whole thing as a Z-Fighter and a Saiyan. Sadly for him, that's where his advantages really ended.

Blade: Thanks to his vast arsenal of loaded abilities and skills, Beelzemon easily had more options available to him, with moves like Rapidmon's Golden Triangle and Makuramon's Primal Orb being much more intricate and technical compared to a lot of Vegeta's ranged options, and he was more than capable of holding his own against him in a close encounter.

Lion: But the real kicker came in the gap between these two in the good old triangle of strength, speed and durability. All three of which were pretty comfortably in Beelzemon's favor.

Blade: Let's start with the most convoluted of these. So, Goku using Super Saiyan God created these universal shockwaves while clashing with Beerus, right? This is already enough to destroy a regular universe 13 times over- But let's add more to that. Super Saiyan Blue is a 50 times multiplier of that, meaning Vegeta is at least 650 times universal in that state- Keep in mind, this is based on a freshly awakened Super Saiyan God, so Vegeta in Super Saiyan Blue by now is likely much higher than just that. Super Saiyan Blue Evolution increases that around twenty-fold, which would place him at around 13,000 times universal. Finally, while we don't have an exact estimate for the boost provided by Ultra Ego, we can use scaling from Top in his God of Destruction form going up against Vegeta using Blue Evolved to estimate yet another 20 times increase. That means that Vegeta is likely at least 260,000 times universal. Which, again, could be higher due to the fact that Goku was a freshly awakened Super Saiyan God at the time of this feat.

Lion: Thing is, all that basically meant jack shit against Beelzemon's power. This guy was keeping up with Megidramon, whose very existence threatened the erasure of the entire network of Digital Worlds, the real world, and the other dimensions that exist within Digimon's cosmology.

Blade: Digimon cosmology is a pretty confusing concept, so bear with us as we explain- You see, the multiverse is essentially comprised of "layers", each of which exist as entirely separate realms that conform to different laws, contain entirely separate dimensions, and in some cases are separated by dimensional walls.

Lion: A few examples of these are the Realm of the Four Holy Beasts, the Eater dimension, and Idea- The realm from which all of creation spawned. Things get really, really confusing really, really fast. But, luckily, for the purposes of getting him up above Vegeta, we only need to talk about one layer. That being the Physical Layer.

Blade: According to Mirei Mikagura, a… Dimension-hopping cat lady, the multiverse consists of worlds existing infinitely and in parallel, branching off into an array of possibilities that could lead anywhere. That's already an infinite multiverse- Making Beelzemon already infinitely stronger than Vegeta just by scaling to one of the many, many complex layers of the Digimon cosmology alone. Not a single character in Dragon Ball's canonical history has demonstrated power of that magnitude.

Popup: Digimon has had multiple canonical crossovers to support this evidence. For example, Cyber Sleuth has a crossover with both ReDigitize and the Dawn and Dusk games. Digimon Tamers itself has crossed over with many of the other seasons in the past, in the Digimon Adventure game and in a special episode of Digimon Hunters. But the real kicker here is the existence of Ryo Akiyama, a character who literally crossed over from the Adventure universe to the Tamers universe, and has his own spinoff game series which is crucial to the lore of both continuities.

Lion: Whew. Now we get to the easy part. So, Vegeta should also scale to the speed of Goku's punches that crossed the universe, right?

Blade: Applying the power multipliers from Vegeta's transformations to the basic speed at which Goku's punches were going, we can safely place Vegeta at around 300 quintillion times the speed of light. Which is incredibly impressive, to be sure…

Lion: But not nearly enough to be on par with Beelzemon. Remember how these guys are residents of the Dark Area? That realm where time itself doesn't exist? Yeah, just doing that alone already makes his speed literally immeasurable! As in, this guy is both infinitely faster and infinitely stronger than Vegeta! Hell, other Royal Knight and Demon Lord-level Digimon like Alphamon and even total randos like that Parrotmon from Digimon Adventure are stated to apparently transcend space-time itself!

Blade: Even the Eaters, who are on their lonesome relatively weak beings that can be defeated easily by mere Champion-level Digimon, are frequently stated to exist on a higher dimension, making it hard to argue that Vegeta could even keep up against a foe like this.

Popup: While it is feasible for the non-canon Xeno Vegeta to match this level of speed and scale to similarly infinite multiversal feats, Beelzemon would still remain significantly stronger thanks to the other complex layers in the Digimon cosmology. Additionally, even if both characters were to be fully composited, Vegeta would never be able to put down the true form of Beelzemon, whose existence is not only omnipresent, but also infinite due to its reliance on the existence of evil in the hearts of men.

Lion: Yeah, I mean, sure, he had some nifty abilities like Hakai and Spirit Fission that could help him even the odds, but let's be realistic here. Vegeta was never gonna land either of those with a speed difference that big. And Hakai doesn't exactly work against stronger opponents- Vegeta himself overpowered Top's Hakai once just through sheer brute force alone.

Blade: Besides, Beelzemon had his own options that served a similar purpose to the likes of those techniques. Corona Destroyer could simply disintegrate Vegeta at the atomic level, or he could drain Vegeta's energy himself as he's done with others in the past.

Lion: Also helped that the guy's managed to survive impalement and having half his body be disintegrated before- Kinda made him a bitch to put down even if Vegeta could scratch him. Keep in mind, most of this stuff applies to just BASE Beelzemon. And Blast Mode is so many leagues ahead of that it isn't even funny.

Blade: Vegeta was certainly a fearsome opponent and a force to be reckoned with, but Beelzemon's wide array of skills, powerful resistances, and superior strength, speed and durability ultimately overwhelmed the prince of all Saiyans.

Lion: He did his best, but from the very beginning, Vegeta's chances were shot...gun.

Beelzemon Winner 2

Blade: The winner is Beelzemon.

Original Track[]

The original track for this battle would be called "Pride & Gluttony", referencing Vegeta's most prominent character trait, his pride, and Beelzemon representing the sin of gluttony among the Seven Great Demon Lords, with both pride and gluttony being among the seven deadly sins.

Trivia[]

  • The connections between Vegeta and Beelzemon is that they are both short-tempered, anti-heroic fighters who serve as the primary antagonist, and later a foil and friendly rival to the main characters of their series (Goku for Vegeta, Takato and Guilmon for Beelzemon). Despite their seemingly cruel and merciless nature, they both have a strong sense of pride and only take pleasure in fighting strong opponents. Although both are initially convinced they're the best of the best and among the elite, their ego is soon shattered when they take loss after loss, and this causes them to become jealous of the growth of those around them and wish for that same growth for themselves, with both going to extreme and even irredeemable lengths to gain that power (Vegeta allowing himself to be possessed by Babidi and killing several innocents at the World Tournament Arena, and Beelzemon killing Leomon after making a deal with Caturamon that he would kill the Tamers in exchange for power). Both eventually come to learn the error of their ways, and after making great sacrifices to atone for their actions, now live to protect with their lives the people they hold most dear to them.
    • Interestingly, both their rivals, Goku and Guilmon, are voiced by the same person (Masako Nozawa) in Japanese.
    • Makuramon, one of the Deva Digimon killed by Beelzemon in Tamers is also voiced by Ryo Horikawa, Vegeta's Japanese voice actor.
  • Were this to be a real episode of Death Battle, it would be animated in 3D using Vegeta's model from Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Beelzemon's model from Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth.
  • This battle is packed with various references to both the Dragon Ball series and Digimon Tamers.
    • The fight taking place in a canyon initially is a reference to Goku and Vegeta's first battle, which also took place in a similar location.
    • The crater of lava is a reference to the battle between Beelzemon and Gallantmon, which had a similar crater form during the fight.
    • Vegeta's line when Beelzemon shoots him with the Heartbreak Shot is directly lifted from his battle against Kid Buu. Him saying "Say your prayers!" before firing off the Big Bang Attack is also a reference, to how he says the same words when using the move in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
    • Beelzemon getting launched into a different area by Vegeta's attack is also a FighterZ reference, as using a heavy attack in that game when finishing off an opponent will result in them being launched into the distance, and the battle will continue on a different stage if the defeated fighter still has teammates remaining.
    • Several of Beelzemon's lines, including his name introduction to Vegeta, and his line when the Deathslinger is damaged are direct references to lines he speaks in Digimon Tamers, being his line when he emerges from the lava riding the Behemoth for the first time and his reaction to the Deathslinger's destruction respectively. His exchange with Ai and Mako in his head is also a reference to the scene in which Impmon first Digivolves to Beelzemon Blast Mode.
    • Beelzemon calling Vegeta "Pineapple Head" is a reference to the same name he uses to refer to Growlmon in the English dub of Digimon Tamers.
