Universal Monsters (Count Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Wolfman, Dr. Jack Griffin, and the Gill-Man) vs. Slasher Villains (Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Leatherface, and Chucky) vs. Virtual Psychos (Slender Man, Chris Walker, Springtrap, Rena Ryugu, and SCP-049) is a What-If Death Battle by Pygmy Hippo 2 and one of his Special episodes, most likely a Halloween one.
Description[]
Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon vs. A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Child's Play vs. the Slender Mythos, Outlast, Five Nights at Freddy's, Higurashi When They Cry, and the SCP Articles! Some of the most infamous bloodthirsty and rage-fueled creatures and undead to define the genre of horror go up against some of the most terrifying human and supernatural killers with some of the highest body-counts in film and tango with the murderous and cunning humans and otherworldly beings who have proven new ways to cause fear, who will wind up proving the 40's, 80's, or 10's is better in the terrifying version of the ancient question of which era of a genre is the best?
Prelude[]
Pygmy:When you look at the past and present of a genre like anything else, things tend to have changed quite a bit with what's considered the pinnacle.
Rose:In comics, Batman's fighting clowns and junkies is considered top-tier in the older days while Spawn just shooting and mutilating the crap out of criminals and demons is the same for a more modern era and Spider-Man got to fight aliens and rich people in between the two.
Zuggsy:We could go on with more examples like Mario, Spyro, and Master Chief being the faces of console gaming but we're looking at the horror genre today, it's arguable true mainstream beginning in movies, the middle-period full of blood and guts in film looked upon the most fondly, and the new PC renaissance that is still going strong.
Pygmy:The Universal Monsters were the first official 'team' of horror icons, have influenced many future movies, and possibly the one with the most members but we'll be looking at the most iconic with the exception of Imhotep because we didn't want to do double Boris Karloff.
Rose:Count Dracula the scheming vampire who wants to make the world his own and turn as many women as he takes an interest in, Frankenstein's Monster the scientific abomination that wreaks havoc wherever he goes in his limitless anger, and the Wolfman who only cares about killing and devouring humans while easily outmaneuvering them!
Zuggsy:Dr. Jack Griffin the Invisible Man who mixes comedic attacks with brutal murders and the Gill-Man who is the Creature from the Black Lagoon who kills anyone who dares try to trespass in his water!
Pygmy:The Slasher Villains, the unofficial but still mostly agreed-upon ranking of some of the most dangerous murderous maniacs known for giving lots of teenagers a bad day, sorry Pinhead but you're ridiculously strong for this fight.
Rose:Freddy Krueger the Dream Demon of Elm Street responsible for ensuring as many children as possible never wake up again, Jason Voorhees the unstoppable killer seeking vengeance for his mother's death by killing anyone in Camp Crystal Lake, and Michael Myers the Shape who sees Haddonfield at Halloween time as his personal hunting ground!
Zuggsy:Leatherface the muscle of the Sawyer, Hewitt, and Slaughter families that ensures that any trespassers on their Texas property wind up added to the menu and Chucky the Killer-Doll whose foul mouth and voodoo magic combined with a massive arsenal makes almost nobody safe from him!
Pygmy:And one of the more OC teams in the Virtual Psychos, made up of some of the most infamous PC antagonists from a wide area of time and places while stuff like Dead By Daylight's Killers are more iffy on the actual horror designation.
Rose:Slender Man the faceless stalker who likes driving humans mad before mutilating them, Chris Walker the murderous soldier with a serious head trophy hunting obsession, and Springtrap the Purple Guy who caused countless hauntings and now lives eternally to kill in his metal coffin!
Zuggsy:Rena Ryugu the cleaver girl who can switch from a regular happy girl to a murderous maniac instantly and SCP-049 the Plague Doctor who is feared for his lethal touch and undead minions to enforce his will!
Pygmy:We're going to see what all of these team's killers can do and then put them against each other in one brutal and bloody brawl where only one side can remain.
Rose:This Death Battle might take a while to finish with this guy's terrible research pace but hey, it'll probably be worth the wait, probably. Anyways, what odd contestant are we starting at this time?

Background
-Age:30
-Height:6'|182.8 cm
-Weight:180 lbs|81 kgs
-Nationality:United Kingdom
-AKA:Dr. Jack Griffin
-Just as Likely to Commit Murder as Mischief
-Gets Less Time in Mazes than Mr. Hyde who's More Associated with Paramount
Pygmy:Dr. Jack Griffin was once just another scientist with no money to his name and as he was engaged to his boss' daughter, Flora Cranley, that made him desperate to earn some fame.
Rose:And what's the best way to get fame as a chemist? Take some random drugs from India, discuss your research with nobody, and stay at an inn while assaulting and berating your hosts while you struggle to find a cure for your invisibility!
Zuggsy:Hey, at least he's not an asshole like novel Griffin who has a laundry-list of asshole actions like stealing so much from his dad that his old man offed himself, experimenting on some old lady's cat, and burnt down his apartment.
Pygmy:Didn't start as one, unfortunately for Jack, the Germans knew Monocane didn't just bleach your skin, it also drove you mad as some poor dog found out-
Rose:Always the fucking Germans!
Pygmy:Ahem, and he didn't just take it on the outside of his body, no, he made his entire body invisible which means he likely had a lot more Monocane in his system than that dog.
Rose:When you immediately start turning into Homelander, yeah, I'd say you're tripping too much and so the Invisible Man beat the shit out of several villagers and a cop on his way out before casually showing up at his fellow doctor Kemp's house and claiming him as his partner so they can go derail trains. Nothing mad with him!
Zuggsy:Admittedly movie Kemp is a complete wimp to his novel counterpart but it was clear Griffin had lost his marbles and then he had his fellow researcher drive him back to Iping so he could get his stuff back from the inn...and terrorize the people some more and bash an inspector's head in. Typical weekend stuff.
Pygmy:It was after this that everyone realized there really was an Invisible Man terrorizing Great Britain and Kemp decided to call the Cranleys while his 'partner' slept before the cops. Flora seemed to bring back some humanity to him before the cops ruined that moment.
Rose:Great work, Kemp, you possibly caused not only your own death by your car getting sent off the mountain but also 20 search party members yeeted off a cliff, derailing a train as he wanted to from the start, and robbing a bank to give out free money! Hmm, maybe I can see why my people made him a good guy with the last one...
Zuggsy:Both Griffins shared the same fate in the end, killed at the height of their rampage but at least Jack got a somewhat peaceful end after getting shot as he told Flora that he messed up. I think 100+ people killed on a body-count closer to a slasher than a Universal Monster is beyond "dabbling in things man should not know" though.
Equipment and Abilities
-Fireplace Poker
-Lamp
-Chair
-Thrown Objects
-Improvised Weapons
-Disguise
-Invisibility and Stealth
Pygmy:Before we get into this, it's important to note that neither version of the Invisible Man cared for signature weapons, they both used a fireplace poker to threaten people, they both used a lamp as a throwing weapon or bludgeoning tool, and they both used a chair, Griffin chasing the inn-keepers out of his room with it and Jack gave the inspector a really bad day with his stool.
Rose:They both love throwing things at people like glasses, bandages from their disguise, a handy rock, and the novel one even used an art pot as a weapon. But that's not the deadliest ranged weapon he had, novel Griffin looted a four-shot revolver from Colonel Adye and used it to try to take Kemp's life with some surprising accuracy!
Zuggsy:He coupled that with an axe that can hack through shutters and crumple helmets to cause head injuries and bludgeoned Mr. Wicksteed with an iron rod from a fence earlier until the guy's head looked like jelly. Jack only used a bicycle afterwards to ride away from the Iping mob and toss it at them and his targets' own clothing like scarves and straps to choke them.
Pygmy:Basically if the Invisible Man could find it, he's probably use it to help out in his Reign of Terror but of course, his most notable aspect was being completely invisible, even his blood in the novel with only food, drink, and smoke along with the environment and dogs giving him away.
Rose:It's hard to tell whether so much of this was stealth or the fact that he's John Cena but Jack had no problems sneaking up on people even in crowds and being completely undetected but if he was feeling like being subtle, his disguise of a fake nose, overcoat or robe, and some handy bandages helped hide his most powerful ability.
Zuggsy:Jack didn't even like picking up a weapon unless he could use it immediately, meaning that the police had to catch a guy who you can't see and will only go for the kill if he knows he can. Not hard to see why he's considered the scariest of the bunch.
Feats
-Regularly knocks men over with single blows and killed a man with a single blow from a chair to the head
-Lifted a man up by his legs and spun him around before throwing him and threw several members of a mob off him briefly
-Is able to keep up extremely well with his targets and move quickly through buildings
-Took a fireplace poker breaking something, bleeding by a spade, and beaten by a mob so badly his chest was crushed to kill him
-Easily able to sneak into occupied buildings even with a crowd to the point that they hardly know he's there if at all
-Escaped a police barricade of several men by assaulting two of them before managing to get behind them
-Defeated police officers, villagers, Omnium emporium workers, and an armed homeowner
Pygmy:Even ignoring all of that, the Invisible Man was still a shockingly skilled fighter, overcoming armed police officers including one with the help of Iping villagers, mobs of villagers and workers, and an armed homeowner with ease and only one blow usually.
Rose:When your kicks are described as able to fell an ox, I think knocking people over with punches to the gut and making people go flying by tripping them is a trivial matter. He even N64 Bowser'd some poor cop and tossed him into his buddies!
Zuggsy:The Invisible Man even threw off a dogpile attempt by a massive mob formed by Kemp that he got lured into while suffering from a potential broken bone due to a fireplace poker and smacked with a spade so hard that he bled but got pinned shortly afterwards again.
Pygmy:Jack knocked over a grandfather clock, choked several men to the point of incapacitation, kicked another man off a cliff after tossing his fellow search party member off the cliff, and knocked a signalman out cold with a lamp.
Rose:It's hard to tell just how fast Griffin is due to the whole invisibility thing but he seemed to be able to travel a lot of ground fairly quickly in buildings or open areas with little to no indication of his presence to warn his potential victims and disarmed Colonel Adye before he could react and shot him when he did. Man, he really had it out for the police...
Zuggsy:A bullet grazing his arm was perfectly fine after some rest and the movie version was only stopped by two bullets that went through both of his lungs and still seemed to be alive for a while after getting dropped. But his physicality is nothing compared to his evil genius as a man who knows exactly how to use invisibility to its full potential.
Pygmy:Cutting telephone wires, faking surrender so he can shed his disguise or using the shock of it to distract Constable Jaffers and several villagers, tricking him into thinking he'd escape out the window, using as little effort as possible to take someone down with a quick blow, and framing his trippings as flying over something to cover his partner.
Rose:And yet that's not his most ridiculous feat, the Invisible Man not only got past a police barricade at Kemp's house by prodding two cops before getting behind them, he later remained undetected with a crowd of police guarding Kemp, listened in on their plan, hid on the running board of his escape car and then got in his backseat to kill him at 10 o'clock! Man, if only Comrade Pygmy could have that commitment...
Zuggsy:It's not all good for Griffin though as previously discussed, Monocane made him mad and his novel version had an anger issue with neither hindering them from getting a target when he really wanted to but definitely contributed to the questionable decisions of switching between Robin Hood and train derailment. After escaping Britain, he even hung out with Mr. Hyde at Halloween Horror Nights who's apparently ripping out everyone in Paris' spine!
Pygmy:That anger made novel Griffin get led into two unfortunate situations in the novels where he got surrounded and even led to his death and for as much as he likes to avoid it, sometimes he's forced into environments that will reveal footprints or some other sign of him.
Rose:Also, Jack's still human so pretty much anything that would kill a human like a crushed chest after a mob beating him up will do him in and he loses his invisibility after dying in addition to the whole tunnel-vision on the person who ticked him off the most.
Zuggsy:The Invisible Man also seems to have a clear preference for choking people in the Universal version and even his novel version loved close-quarters combat which wouldn't be a problem if he could always take someone out quickly like he wants but that whole Reign of Terror assassination plan can backfire badly on him if his target's ready for him.
Pygmy:While Universal might not show him as much love as the other Universal Monsters, the Invisible Man is still one of the first and most iconic human maniacs in history.
"We'll begin with a reign of terror, a few murders here and there, murders of great men, murders of little men-well, just to show we make no distinction."
The Gill-Man[]
Theme:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t05fNlNfyfU
Background
-Age:Potentially 419 Million, More Likely Unknown
-Height:6'5"|195.5 cm
-Weight:300 lbs|136 kgs
-Nationality:Brazil?
-AKA:The Creature from the Black Lagoon
-Loves Water and Human Women
-Novel Turned Him into a Hemaphrodite Kaiju
Pygmy:Potentially the most ancient combatant here, the Gill-Man is an interesting creature to say the least as he's most certainly the last of a prehistoric species.
Rose:Move over Velociraptors, he had proper hands long before you mooks and he doesn't have to hunt on land, I mean who wants to stalk something down when you can just wait in the water?
Zuggsy:Anyways, he lived in the Amazon for so long the natives elevated him to a legend but it was after a scientist found the remains of one of his brethren that he finally became known to the modern world.
Pygmy:Perhaps murdering two hired workers wasn't the best first impression but he was mostly content to just watch the research team sent to look for more bones in his lagoon until one of them shot him with a spear gun.
Rose:Yeah, mere humans shouldn't anger the practical dinosaur unless they want him to just go complete killing mode and start stealing girlfriends left and right, seriously though, why is he interested in them?
Zuggsy:You would think they look different enough to him but Universal had a status quo to keep and the Creature from the Black Lagoon would wind up being taken to a Florida aquarium after a second expedition.
Pygmy:Needless to say, he broke free and started causing his same old mayhem back in South America in the United States although he added dog murder as well as human ones.
Rose:Not my comrade! The fish-faced fuck got what he deserved afterwards as he got his scales burnt off and became a worse Frankenstein's Monster in a literal livestock cage.
Zuggsy:Unfortunately lungs don't do well underwater and it's heavily implied that after three movies of rampages, he finally met his end by trying to return to his beloved water and drowning in the process. Congratulations science, you ruined a perfectly good creature.
Equipment and Abilities
-Claws
-Hands
-Scales
-Expert Swimmer
-Skilled Fighter
-Stealth
-Land Transformation
Pygmy:Won't be the last time. The Gill-Man's only true weapon is his claws that are stated to leave wounds like a jaguar and are quite large with five for each finger that can easily rip through flesh.
Rose:Those hands we spoke about earlier? Yeah, he can grab things so he can throw them like spear guns, stop people from attacking him, or just choke the life out of people.
Zuggsy:When we get to Feats, that'll be clear but his scales also serve as some defense that can prevent spears from going through him too much although they do nothing against bullets and can be burned badly.
Pygmy:It's fairly obvious that he's really good at swimming, being able to easily match humans and vessels in speed and being entirely capable of staying underneath the surface as long as he wants.
Rose:The Creature from the Black Lagoon can creep up on any humans in his domain, primarily women because this is a Universal Monster, and even does quite well at adapting to a new area.
Zuggsy:It's even possible to make him a land animal by getting his collapsed lungs to work that really just enables him to lose his main weakness and get rid of one of his greatest strengths through outside help so not really that useful.
Feats
-Can pick up heavy logs and can throw furniture like nothing
-Shook an entire boat when he was struggling in a net
-Can jump out of the water to reach the top of an enclosure and chase boats
-Spear guns are mostly just annoying and gunshots are recoverable from
-Explosions and poison only render him unconscious for a while
-Tracked a woman to her hotel and can trap humans in water
-Defeated natives, scientists, armed humans, and animals
Pygmy:The Gill-Man is extremely strong as he can create an entire heavy log barricade in a night and easily hurl humans, sometimes lethally.
Rose:He managed to shake an entire boat when he bumbled into a net, knocked down a brick fence pillar, and tore open a wire fence with ease which means that very few things can block his path.
Zuggsy:He can leap out of his aquarium enclosure from the water and keep the same distance with a boat while he mainly just walks around outside of water which isn't his biggest problem there.
Pygmy:Even being shot repeatedly with shotguns or a group of police officers isn't enough to put him down for too long and even the fire that took his scales was ultimately able to be healed.
Rose:Multiple TNT boxes only knock him out and a poison used for knocking out fish took several hours to finally work on him which means that he can take a lot before going down.
Zuggsy:The Creature from the Black Lagoon is more intelligent than a chimpanzee, can track down humans outside of the water with no apparent clues, and puts humans into situations that should benefit him in a fight.
Pygmy:He's even capable of understanding when someone is trying to frame him for a murder and then kill them himself because you fight murder with murder? I never said he had good morals but he eventually figured out how to get free of a chain that kept him trapped in an enclosure for a while.
Rose:The Creature from the Black Lagoon is surprisingly fairly experienced as well, killing native assistants and animals like mountain lions and dogs with ease along with potentially caimans, and beating up scientists including armed ones.
Zuggsy:However he has several weaknesses such as how he literally will die if he tries to stay on land without his lungs working and then he drowns in the water with them so he's screwed either way.
Pygmy:He's not always the most tactical fighter, sometimes just relying on raw power after an ambush to win and he really hates lights along with fire for good reason as that can potentially kill him.
Rose:He has a huge problem with crushes on human women and after his land transformation, didn't even bother with subtlety as he just tore through everything in his escape path.
Zuggsy:Before that he snuck up on two men when he still had his gills although he's also entirely a regular creature as shown by how he can be knocked out and poisoned which doesn't give him the supernatural resilience of some of his allies.
Pygmy:The Gill-Man might not be a Tyrannosaurus Rex or giant shark but he certainly proved Universal's point about not messing with past animals and staying away from water, especially his Black Lagoon.
