Legends continuity History[]

Mitth'raw'nuruodo was born on the planet Csilla in the final decades of the Galactic Republic. From a young age, Mitth'raw'nuruodo was committed to serving his people, the Chiss, by working diligently for the Chiss Ascendancy, where he saw to the eradication of any who would threaten his people.

Despite his incredible skill and efficiency, Mitth'raw'nuruodo's methods were contradictory to the ways of Chiss people, cheif among them, his use of preventive strikes. In time, Mitth'raw'nuruodo would come into contact with Darth Sidious after partially destroying the Sith Lord's private military forces that aimed to covertly destroy a starship.

Striking a deal with the Sith Lord, Mitth'raw'nuruodo ensured those who knew of this encounter were silenced, as both himself and Darth Sidious believed the intergalactic threat, the Yuuzhang Vong, to be a greater threat, one that the Galactic Republic should not yet be aware of.

Although Mitth'raw'nuruodo was nothing short of an exceptionally talented member of his people, his continued use of methods against Chiss principles caused him to be exiled from Csilla where he was left to die in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. By the time the Galactic Republic had been transformed into the Galactic Empire, Thrawn was discovered by the Empire, and brought before Darth Sidious, now Emperor Palpatine.

Due to his past cooperation with the Sith Lord, Thrawn was appointed to the Imperial Navy, where he diligency climbed the ranks in hopes of becoming as powerful a leader as possible, knowing of the inevitable Yuuzhang Vong threat. After two decades of service, Thrawn became the first non-human, and the secret thirteenth Grand Admiral in the Imperial Navy.

However, Thrawn used his position of power to secretly establish the Empire of the Hand, a secret empire at his command. Thrawn primarily operated in the Unknown Regions, which caused him to be absent for several of the defining battles of the Galactic Civil War, including the Battle of Yavin, the Battle of Hoth, and the Battle of Endor, during which the Empire broke down and began to shatter under the in-fighting between the remaining Imperial warlords that rivaled one another.

Four years after the Battle of Endor, Thrawn returned to the known galaxy, and reunified the remnants of the Galactic Empire in a bid to annihilate the New Republic, the former Rebel Alliance that now governed the galaxy. Thrawn's campaign against the New Republic was one of the defining conflicts of New Republic history, one that nearly resulted in his victory, but the Empire's chances at victory were unexpectedly lost when Thrawn was killed by his bodyguard, which brought an end to Thrawn's campaign, and with it, the Empire's last attempt to retake the galaxy.

Posthumously, Thrawn's legacy would be carried out by clones of himself, as well as the Empire of the Hand, which remained unknown to the New Republic, prepared for the as-of-yet-unknown threat to the galaxy.
