The Terrible Trio Vs. Deep Cut is Season 2, Episode 7 of ThunderStar20's Death Battles, pitting Snips, Papes, and Ronk from The Legendary Starfy against Shiver, Frye, and Big Man from Splatoon.
Description[]
Two Trios from Nintendo's Water Based games go head to head!
Interlude[]
Thunder: The Terrible Trio Vs. Deep Cut!
Metroid: The Pursuers of the Bunneran Prince and the Treasure Seeking Idols of the Splatlands.
Thunder: He's Metroid and I'm Thunder!
Metroid: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
The Terrible Trio are So Bad![]
Metroid: Planet Bunnera. A peaceful planet inhabitants by aliens known as Bunnerans, led by their Prince named Bunston.
Thunder: Despite being able to shapeshift into anything, from Ghosts, to Dragons, to Chickens, to Seals, and more, they were more on just chillin’ and doing stuff like watering plants. Kinda a downer, if you ask me.
Metroid: Well, you wouldn't be alone in that belief; as soon enough they were attacked by space pirates, led by the terrifying Mashtooth. With his frankly bizarre ability to absorb power by inhaling or eating, the Bunnerans had their powers drained, except one; the Prince.
Thunder: So Mashtooth decided what to do; send out a select Trio to hunt the kid down and bring him back to him! And he had the team to do it; the Terrible Trio! Ronk, Papes, and Snips! Yeah, they're named after Rock, Paper, Scissors.
BACKGROUND:
Snips:
Leader of the Trio
Actually clever in terms of schemes
Ronk:
Muscle of the Trio
Actually a big softie
Papes:
The Planner of the Trio (Not too good at it though…)
Hobby: Shield Collection
Metroid: Each member is capable of their own skills, so lets start with basics; Papes. He's meant to be the planner for the team, but his plans...don't always work out. He also is on the defensive edge of the battle, as his main weapon is a shield.
Thunder: But keep in mind that shield has spikes on it, so trying to hit him when that thing's up is a surefire way to get your hand looking like the cheese from Tom and Jerry. It's also pretty heavy, considering he couldn't carry it up slopes...but hey, he could crush someone with it.
Metroid: Papes also seems to have hammerspace, as his pants was able to fit that same shield, despite it being bigger than him, not having bulges in the pants to signify it--
Thunder: That sounds way too dirty, dude.
Metroid: ...Oh. I didn't mean to make it sound like that...
Thunder: Now lets move onto the big lug himself; Ronk! He's big and bulky, maybe even sumo-like, and can use that size to devastating effect! Mainly he's got strong punches to go around! No seriously, his strategy in battle is punch 'em. I think he'd be friends with Knuckles...
Metroid: Well, Ronk's punches are capable of creating a speed barrier around his hands and arms. But, ultimately he is floaty. Submerge him in water and he floats up and gets slower. That's why he eventually got an anchor to wear so can weigh himself down.
Thunder: But last but definitely not least is their leader Snips! She's the one that decides what to do, and the two will listen. And she's got more up her sleeve than them as well!
Metroid: Snips can create forcefields, throw out bombs, and even teleport. She even can seemingly summon anyone she's held captive with a mere finger snap.
Thunder: So yeah, they had what it took...but sadly, their jobs weren't easy. Bunston ended up getting the aid of the Legendary Starfy himself! So to say things got bad for them was an understatement.
Metroid: Yet, this may have been what ultimately what helped them start becoming better. After constant chasing the two princes and their friend, Papes and Ronk were heavily injured...but we're healed up by Starfy thanks to Ruby. This...made them rethink who they were siding with, Snips included when she learned of the good deed that was done to them.
Thunder: This ultimately, after a bit of back and forth, made them change their mind on who they should fight; instead of taking Bunston to Mashtooth, they'd stick it to the man!
Metroid: Okay, this is where it gets weird in terms of where they scale. They obviously upscale from the Pizzap, which is confirmed to be able to power a small city. But when it comes to direct fighting, the most noteworthy are Starfy and Mashtooth.
Thunder: Starfy was holding back when fighting them, however, Mashtooth shocked them with his might, obviously trying to kill them. Hell, he was shocked they even SURVIVED. But that was only base Mashtooth. The best we can do is say they're comparable to a Starfy holding back, which, judging by calculations that put Starfy at Dwarf Star Levels of strength, could put them around just a level or so lower.
Metroid: Speed is a little easier though as they were able to pilot a ship while chasing Bunston from Planet Bunnera to...whatever Planet Starfy takes place on, Earth or not. There is not a statement on how far Planet Bunnera is from Earth, but if we assume they are in the same system and just far away from each other via an Astronomical Unit, and took an hour to make the trip, this would get to about 41554.88 km/s, or about the Relativistic range.
Thunder: But when their backs are against the wall, they can bust out the strongest technique they have; Paper Cut Crusher! Which is...them somehow making a different pocket dimension of some kind...for Rock Paper Scissors. Or be a barrage of attacks when they used it on Mashtooth. But when successful, it does having damage, making Mashtooth in his Mega form throw up Bunston after he ate him!
Metroid: But it does have a drawback; it drains immense energy from them. If the attack fails or isn't enough, the Trio will be left weakened, and likely open to be defeated as a result. Regardless, their actions were noted that day; after all, as Moe said, the entire Bunneran race, alongside himself and Starfy, would have died to Mashtooth if not for that act.
Thunder: You gotta hand it to them, they really pulled through when it mattered. Now a bodyguards to the Prince they attempted to capture, I'm sure they're set for a FAR better future!
Deep Cut Splat Up the Field![]
Metroid: Welcome to the town of Splatsville. The location of many newbies into the world of Splatfests and competitions.
Thunder: Yeah, and just before you think this peppy, remember that this place in a world that's after all mammals went extinct. So...yippie?
Metroid: Well, regardless, the newer species, Inklings and Octolings, picked off where the world left off; making new cities, doing music, all kinds of things. And in this world, there are some who are popular people who host those splatfests we were speaking of.
Thunder: There's the Squid Sisters, who are a duo consisting of Callie and Marie, who are also secret agents! Then there's Off the Hook, which consist of Pearl and Marina who....are just Idols, no secret shit. But those aren't the gals being covered today, we're covering the group that isn't two, but three; Deep Cut! Shiver, Frye, and Big Man!
BACKGROUND:
Shiver:
Has a Japanese inspiration for her design
Said to be cold-hearted, more of a dork honestly
Frye:
Most Peppy of the three
Has a big ass forehead
Big Man:
The only known male idol
Only speaks with "Ay"
Metroid: The Trio of Deep Cut did their jobs as Idols well, but there was something else they did; treasure hunt.
Thunder: If you think it's for the money, you'd be right on the money...somewhat. The three are kinda aware that Splatsville isn't as well off in terms of funds as other cities. So they decided treasure hunting was the way to gain enough funds for it!
Metroid: But when they found out said treasure was also being targeted....well, they geared up for combat. For starters, Shiver uses a a giant shark called Master Mega. It may not be exactly the size of the Megalodon, but its power more than makes up for it.
Thunder: It's usually in giant pools of ink, and Shiver uses it to do alot; like send out waves of ink across the field, or create whirlpools of ink it can rise in to shoot a beam of ink from its mouth! Or if it wants a more up close fight, it could sneak under the ground and pop out and EAT its victims. Hey, it is a shark after all!
Metroid: Actually, no, Sharks actually aren't as bloodthirsty as most things protray them--
Thunder: Next is Frye, who's more energetic than Shiver! And she's always ready to dance! And shes got alot of eels on her hand, using a hollowed out Octostomper which houses giant eels in them!
Metroid: She can send them out to try and slam from above, fly around in a whirlpool like motion, spread out, or even form into a shape of giant eel coming for targets. However, they can be hit back towards her, and enough can daze her.
Thunder: And then there's Big Man, who's the most laid back of the three. And in a fight he actually doesn't use a vehicle!
Metroid: Indeed. Instead, he covers his body in ink before entering the ground as a shadow that spreads ink around. While the shadow is attackable, it will split into multiple ones...and can throw splatbombs put as a shadow. But destroy all the shadows and he will pop out, leaving him vulnerable.
Thunder: Oh, and if you splat Shiver or Frye, they'll be okay because they can respawn on their vehicles! Yeah, they got that respawn thing on their rides, so they can keep going!
Metroid: And of course, these things were able to keep up with the new Agent 3 and the weapons that was used. Keep in mind, we've calculated these things to be around the City Level of power.
Thunder: Not only does it fights mechs that use power sources that can power up entire cities, but also could be on par with a Killer Wail from Pearl that clashed with a beam that would have destroyed Inkpolis! And when it comes to speed, well, Agent 3 has dodged Sound Waves!
Metroid: But Agent 3 was still able to defeat them. But ultimately, it turns out the treasures were only needed momentarily, and gave them it in the end. This made them join Agent 3 in their mission that eventually resolved in saving the literal world by helping Agent 3 get to space.
Thunder: Just like before, not bad eggs. They got what they needed, and they got to even work with the Squid Sisters! A great resume, all in all.
Prelude[]
Metroid: Alright the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilities.
Thunder: It's time for a Death Battle!
Pre-Fight[]
Morning shined brightly over Splatsville, the city filled with loud sounds from the bustling crowd and friends gathers, or those wating for the newest Splatfest to begin.
In fact, Deep Cut, the Idols of Splatsville, were busy setting up for it. "Alright! Let's get this Splatsfest down!" Frye started, grinning widely. "Be patient, Frye. The recording is going to start." Shiver reminded. Big Man nodded, but noticed something weird out the window...
...Was that a spaceship flying around in a out of control manner? No...it couldn't, right?
Before he could ponder further, he heard the camera turn on, forcing him to focus on the recording.
"Welcome to the Anarchy Splatfest. We got a question for all of you; which of these Princesses are the best?" Shiver questioned, as the screen showed three princesses of three different colors; pink, orange, and light blue.
"Well, obviously it's Daisy! She's got a tomboyish attitude that I just agree with!" Frye exclaimed, with Shiver having a slight smirk. "Really now? Because Peach seems to befit a princess more."
As Big Man was about to speak, he noticed the spaceship getting worryingly closer to the building. "Ay... (I see a spaceship getting close to the building, you two!)"
"What spaceship--"
In a sudden moment, the spaceship crashed through the building, leaving a gaping hole in it and destroying a good chunk of the equipment. After a bit, the ship crashed into a newly built stadium.
A moment of silence before Frye immediately jumped up. "JERKS! We payed alot for those things! Let's go get 'em!" She yelled, running down the stairs, with Shiver sighing. "Well, they do need to pay. After all, we WERE about done with our newest song." She noted, heading down. Big Man got up, and looked at the camera. "Ay. (The Splatfest will be delayed for a bit, sorry!)"
Meanwhile, the stadium's exterior had a hole, but inside, the ship was stuck against wall...upside down.
Then it ejected everyone inside onto the main stage. After a bit of laying down face-first, the group got up, to reveal the Terrible Trio...who were now good, mind you, and accompanying Bunston to see Starfy.
The leader, Snips, got up, coughing. "That...is the last time...we let the Bunnerans fix the ship..." She groaned. Papes, who was struggling to get up, said as he was floored. "Actually, I think it was because of us hitting the accelerator too much." He spoke.
Ronk was quick to pick him up. "I think it was the asteroids hitting us..." He mumbled, as he set Papes down and went to help Bunston, who shook his head before speaking. "Let's just find a way to get the ship fixed and--"
"HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!" The sudden voice made all of them jump before turning around to see Deep Cut...striking some really flashy poses. "So, you're the ones who crashed through our studio, did you?" Shiver inquired, causing Snips to blink. "Papes, I thought you said this was deserted town."
"I did! I thought it was, the place was basically a dump when I saw it!" Papes exclaimed. "Oh, now you're insulting Splatsville, aren't ya?!" Frye yelled, Big Man quickly jumping in. "Ay! (Sorry, but breaking our stuff and insulting our home really grinds our gears.)"
"Uh, Papes? I think you ticked them off." Ronk muttered, as Bunston ran up. "I can help!"
"Oh, no you don't. Did you even bring that gun of yours?" Snips questioned, making Bunston before sighing. "Get to safety, we'll handle this. We're your bodyguards now, aren't we?"
Nodding, Bunston ran off as the Trio prepared to fight..but didn't expect Shiver and Frye to jump into the blue and yellow ink and emerge on a gian shark on a Octostomper.
Looks like the meeting with Starfy will have to wait.
Fight[]
Shiver was first to act, having Master Mega launch out a wave of ink at his target. The Terrible Trio were split up in their attempt to dodge, and Frye and Big Man split up to go after their targets.
Snips looked over to Big Man, who was making weird motions with his hands before ink covered every bit of his body, before dropping to the ground and becoming a shadow.
Thinking fast, Snips pulled out a bomb and threw it at the Shadow, the explosion engulfing it. Snips smirked at the easy victory...until she saw that the Shadow split into two. "Ay ay? (Can you guess which one of us is the real one?)"
Snips took a step back, but found herself stepping in ink, which somewhat hampered her movement. Looking back, she saw one of the shadows throw out a bomb, making her widen her eyes before setting up a forcefield to block it.
Speaking of blocking, Papes was using his shield to block the eels Frye was sending at him. "What's wrong, ponytail? Can't handle my eels?"
"It's Papes!" Papes whined. "And...kinda..." He meekly replied before using his shield to block his foes barrage of eels, before throwing his shield onto the yellow ink and surfing across it to gain a speed boost.
Seeing Frye atop the spinning Octostomper, Papes got off his shield and threw it at Frye, knocking her off balance and making her fall to the floor. When she got up, Papes ran up to her and punched her across the face twice, before catching his shield and ramming it into her, making her stumble before he...plowed through her with it.
Startled at first, Papes noticed a little ghost-like creature floating to the Octostomper before Frye popped back out, good as new. "Alright, you got some slick moves..." Frye noted, before the Octostomper shot out a bunch of eels into the air that rained down. "But can you keep up with that dance?"
Yelping, Papes used his shield to protect himself from the rain of eels. Ronk noticed his teammate struggling, and opted to help, just to for a ink wave force him back.
"Ah, ah, ah! Now where do you think you're going, big guy?" Shiver teased. "I gotta help Papes! He's like a little brother to me!" Ronk yelled, just for Master Mega, the shark that Shiver was riding, to suddenly swing its tail at Ronk, who was struck, but held on. Grabbing onto the tail, Ronk outright lifted the shark and threw it against the wall, it landin,g in the blue ink with a splash that forced the muscle of the Trio to shield his eyes.
When he opened it, he looked around to see that the shark....was not there. Confused, Ronk scratched the back of his head...before he was abruptly attacked from below, Master Mega closing its mouth around Ronk....just for Ronk to lift its teeth open, trying to escape!
Alas, it was for naught, as Master Mega won out and swallowed him down. "That's more like it, Master Mega! Now lets Petal to the Megalodon to these others!"
Master Mega was about to make another move, but suddenly felt a jerk in its stomach, before feeling immense pain...before a fist shaped indent began rapidly appearing; Ronk was still putting up fight from inside.
It was more tha,n enough, as soon enough, Master Mega hurled back out the big guy. Ronk tumbled across the floor, before hitting Papes, sending them both to the center of the arena.
"Boys!" Snips called, throwing a few bombs at the Big Man shado ws, making the real one pop out. With this seen, Shivzc, er quickly grabbed Big Man onto Master Mega. "Ay! (Thanks, Shiver. That was close...)"
"Thank me later. We got work to do, after all." Shiver replied, as Snips teleported next to her partners. "You two alright?" She questioned. "I'm fine...mostly..." Ronk muttered, shivering at what he went through as Papes stood up. "Okay, so uh, those guys are gonna keep attacking us if those thing they ride are still there!"
"What do you mean by that?!" Snips questioned. "Well, uh, one of them exploded when I rammed into them, but then their ghost kinda...went into the machine ad they popped out again." Papes awkwardly explained.
Snips proceeded what she was told, and then an idea clicked. "Alright, you two! Listen up..."
Frye, who riding on her spinning Octostomper, noticed the Trio beginning to huddle. "Hey, hey! Quit the huddle or I'm bringing the trouble!" She yelled, before sending a barrage of eels in the formation of a giant one.
And as that happened, the Trio got a gleam in their eyes. "Alright, let's show em what we're made of!"
With that statement, Snips grabbed Papes and threw him forward, the youngest of the Trio holding out his shield and plowing through it, sending a large amount of them back at Frye who attempted get out of the way.
Sadly for her, Ronk was up next, striking the Octostomper with enough force to send it flying and knock Frye off it and into the air. As a result of the punch, the Octostomper was destroyed, and Frye was helpless as the eels that Papes sent back at her smacked into her hard and repeatedly.
Just as Frye thought it was over, Snips suddenly teleported next to her and gave a hard kick to her face that sent her flying towards the blue pool of ink. Before she landed in it, though, Master Mega caught her. "Whew! That was a doozy." Frye commented, before Master Mega generated an inky whirlpool that it rode up.
"You three have been quite the pain, you know?" Shiver chistated. "But I believe its time we get back to our broadcast, so we're ending this now."
After those words, Master Mega opened his mouth and, much to the shock of Bunston's new bodyguards, fired an ink laser! Papes ran over, blocking the laser with his shield, but was notably slowly being overpowered....
Until Ronk held him up and helped keep him steady. Grunting, the laser increased in ferocity, making even Ronk struggle to hold it up...
Then Snips, in a quick move, leaped over the shield and threw bomb right into Master Mega's mouth. After a few seconds, the bomb exploded, obliterating Master Mega and sending the three Idols flying through the air helplessly.
"Alright, you boys ready?" Snips asked, and they nodded. "Let's do it, Snips!" Ronk declared, as Papes narrowed his eyes. "Wait for them to land..."
Just as they landed, the Trio then made their move.
"PAPER-CUT CRUSHER!"
A barrage of flashes were seen, and striking sounds were heard before the Trio then landed safely. After straightening up a bit, they sighed...
Then struck a pose as three Idols behind them exploded into a puddle of blue, yellow, and red.
"Hah! That plan went perfectly!" Papes cheered, as Snips dusted her hands off. "Yeah, about time something went mostly smoothly for us, see."
"We should let Bunston know that the coast is clear, right?" Ronk asked, the other two nodding as they went to go get the Bunneran Prince.
Results[]
Winner's Screen: After getting Bunston, the Trio quickly manage to repair their ship and take off.
Loser's Screen: Deep Cut's ink stains slowly fade away...except for the red puddle left by Big Man.
Thunder: Aw...not the Manta Ray...
Metroid: Deep Cut were definitely no slouches in combat, but this time, the Terrible Trio caught a breather.
Thunder: The stats kinda make that clear. Deep Cut's best strength scaling is city busting, the Terrible Trio has that as their lowest, and likely scale just below Starfy, who at minimum could bust a Dwarf Star. Deep Cut can scale to people who dodges Sound Waves, the Terrible Trio can pilot ships that can travel instellar distances. Kind of a bad start.
Metroid: Not only that, but Snips had abilities that could easy out do them. Forcefields to block attacks, teleportation to get close to Shiver or Frye, it was easy counters.
Thunder: And that's not going over the fact the Trio has better teamwork; Deep Cut plan together, but never FIGHT together. Meanwhile, the Trio actually have fought alongside each other and had each other's backs.
Metroid: The respawn from the vehicles Shiver and Frye have would keep them in the game a bit, but with the sheer strength difference anyone of the Trio could easy destroy one of their rides. And sure, Big Man's abilities may confuse them at first, but that's really it.
Thunder: Deep Cut probably would have won if the Paper-Cut Crusher failed, but that likelihood against them was minimal. Hell, the Terrible Trio wouldn't even NEED it. Yeesh, kinda feel bad about doing this fight.
Metroid: Ultimately, Deep Cut were tough customers, but the Terrible Trio were out of their league.
Thunder: Sadly for Deep Cut, they were Cut Down by a Terrible Snip.
Metroid: The winner is the Terrible Trio.
The Terrible Trio (Winners):
+ Outstats by a HUGE margin
+ Snips abilities were hard to counter
+ Better Teamwork
- A failed Paper-Cut Crusher may screw them over
Deep Cut (Losers):
+ Respawn may keep them in the game for a bit
- Hopelessly outstated
- Far less experience working as a team in battle
