The extent of the Stranger is far from unknown. Coming from a time where Theodore Roosevelt did not succeed William McKinney (as the latter survived his assassination), where corporations began to form megacorporations, and thus began making into outer space for colonization (in actuality, the idea was to exploit alien planets for resources to feed the greed of the megacorporations under a leadership assembly named the Board). However, the Stranger's time in a distant system known as Halcyon has come in heavy circumstances; the colonists are starving, the food reserves are running short, and the Board has done nothing to account for the colonists still on cryogenic slumber.
With the guidance of mad scientist and terrorist Phineas Welles, the Stranger must make a choice that decides the fate of all of the Halcyon system; either to rebel against the Board's control over the Halcyon system or help the latter detain Welles and maintain the Board's iron grip over the system.
