The Phantom Thieves of Hearts VS Luminary's Party is a What-If collab episode of Death Battle written by Tonygameman, Th3Gr8DrX and other unknown users. It features The Phantom Thieves of Hearts led by Akira Kurusu from Persona 5 and a protagonist party led by Luminary from Dragon Quest XI.
Description[]
Persona VS Dragon Quest! In this 8-on-8 team battle, no holds are barred as these modern RPG heroes fight each other to death! Shall the Phantom Thieves mentally shutdown Erdrick's ancestor and his party or will they rather slay them for Erdrea's safety?
Interlude[]
Wiz: RPGs are a genre of games enjoyed by many, some even turning into long series, depending on popularity.
Boomstick: And today, we've got two parties from very long and very popular games, the latest installments in their respective series, of course.
Wiz: Akira Kurusu, also known as Joker, and the Phantom Thieves of Hearts.
Boomstick: And Eleven, the Luminary of legend, and his... uh... group of people he found. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick...
Wiz: And it is our job to analyze their equipment, abilities and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle!

Cues: (Overture - Dragon Quest XI)
Wiz: Every so often, The World Tree, Yggdrasil, selects one person to be Her chosen champion, the reincarnation of the Luminary, and their leaf blooms with an explosion of light.
Boomstick: Yeah, which is a good thing, because there's also a Dark Lord. A great, evil dude who just wants to kill everyone.
Wiz: Born as the Prince of Dundrasil, Eleven's birth marked a great time of prosperity and hope for the entirety of the land of Erdrea.
Boomstick: ...oooor so they thought. Remember when we said that Yggdrasil creates a Luminary when humanity needs it most? Yeah... humanity reeeeeeaaally needed it.
Wiz: Right as the king was showing his son to the other lords, his castle was laid under siege by a horde of monsters with Lord Mordegon himself leading them into battle.
Boomstick: He wasn't so happy about someone who was prophesized to defeat him being born.
Wiz: He killed Eleven's father and turned the world against him, but not before his mother was able to float him to safety, finding him a home and anonymity in the village of Cobblestone, where he would grow up to be a normal young man.
Boomstick: Until him and his friend got attacked by a giant bird and he blasted it with lightning from the sky!! So he was told all about who he truly was and went off to go fulfill his destiny.
Wiz: And promptly got thrown in jail for being a harbinger of the darkness. But this actually turned out to be a good thing, as it sent him on the path to meet his friends, people with skills he'd need to ultimately be successful, and who'd push him to be the best he can be.
Boomstick: But as the chosen one, he doesn't really need much of a push! Without any formal training, he's incredibly skilled with swords, even ones bigger than him!
Wiz: He's had his fair share of weapons, but none quite as powerful as the Supreme Sword of Light. It electrocutes anyone it touches and is the most powerful sword to ever exist. It can even dispel any negative status ailments from anyone he wishes.
Boomstick: Erdwin's Shield is incredibly useful for self-defense, being especially useful against fire, ice, and darkness. It even restores his MP over the course of the fight!
Wiz: As the Luminary, he's not only resistant against curses, but also possesses powerful magic, giving him control over fire, lightning, and explosion techniques.
Boomstick: Frizz is a fireball, which can be upgraded all the way to Kafrizz to become a massive fiery explosion!
Wiz: Spells from Zap to Kazap have him call bolts of lightning from the heavens down upon groups of enemies, and Sizz to Kasizz cause a small bolt of lightning to erupt into a huge fire. He can even charge his sword with even more electricity for a powerful Gigaslash, or even Gigagash.
Boomstick: But then there's Boom, and oh, boy, is this a good one! It's just your average giant explosion that destroys everything around it, with the notable benefit of it not harming his teammates. How convenient!
Wiz: But there's one ability he seems to love above all others - that being making swords out of light.
Boomstick: Yeah, he does that all the time! Gold ones, pink ones, f*cking HUGE ones, he does it all!
Wiz: Quadraslash is a giant sword of light summoned from the sky and sent down upon the enemies, slashing at them viciously before exploding.
Boomstick: You really just can't disarm the guy.
Wiz: And finally, there's one last thing to mention - the power of Pep. Randomly, users of magic just start glowing, and not only become more powerful, but also gain access to new abilities in conjunction with other Pepped-up individuals. When he gets Pepped Up, he enjoys bonuses to strength, resilience, and critical hit rate, and can use Pep Powers like Buff-Buff, Kazapstrophe, and Hit Parade.
Eleven and Sylvando are shown using Hit Parade.
Boomstick: Wow... that's just... huh.
Wiz: Eleven is incredibly determined - he'll fight and fight until he literally can't, even if he's a fish. Truly, Yggdrasil chose her champion correctly.
The entirety of Eleven's team of friends is seen standing around him as he forges the Sword of Light.
Erik[]
Boomstick: *GASP* Goku!!
Wiz: Erik and his sister, Mia, were orphans from a very young age, until, one day, they were taken in and raised by a group of Vikings.
Boomstick: oh, that's nice! You know, usually Vikings aren't really thought of as people who would make great parents.
Wiz: Oh, they still aren't. No, they looked at these helpless children and saw two potential slaves who wouldn't need as much food as adults to be kept alive.
Boomstick: Ah...
Wiz: They'd be worked to the bone all day, and then fed a small amount of food and were sent to their... uh... lackluster shelter.
Boomstick: But they still had one thing, that being each other! Awwww! (Retching noises)
Wiz: Of course, that was a weakness, too. It just meant that they were each responsible for each other and couldn't risk running away, lest something horrible happen to the other in the process. See, one person escaping is plausible, but two... not so much. At least the townspeople were nice to them.
Boomstick: Still, though, they were happy together. Having each other's company made each day worth it. Look, he's even giving her a birthday present!
Wiz: One day, Erik gave Mia a gift - a golden necklace he had managed to steal without the knowledge of the Vikings.
Boomstick: Surprise! It's a magic necklace! It gave Mia the power to turn anything she desired into gold, an ability she was more than happy to have.
Wiz: And she did not use this ability sparingly. She turned just about everything she could get her hands on into gold, even animals.
Boomstick: Well, Erik didn't think that the murder of innocent living creatures for basically no reason was all that cool, so he voiced his concerns to Mia and convinced her to take off the necklace.
Wiz: The thought never crossed either of their minds that that might backfire, that there might be some sort of curse placed upon the necklace.
Mia (turning to gold): Erik! Help me!
Erik watches on in horror, helplessly.
Wiz: He finally had no reason to stay, so he left, but, wracked with guilt, was always hoping that there would be some way to save Mia.
Boomstick: And one day, he met a woman... man... uh... person, called the Seer, who told him that if he stole the Red Orb, he'd meet the Luminary underground and gain forgiveness. So he did, and he did.
Wiz: Unsure entirely of what he was supposed to do, he joined forces with the Luminary, and just sorta... stuck with him.
Boomstick: I mean, he had nothing else to do.
Wiz: Fortunately, years of being an experienced thief also meant that he was incredibly proficient in combat, and even a little magic.
Boomstick: He's good with swords and boomerangs, but he's great with knives. He's mastered all kinds of techniques like the Sleeper Hit and Cobra Strike, which put victims to sleep and poison them, respectively.
Wiz: And he can combo off of those with Persecutter or Victimiser, which do crazy damage to targets with those particular status ailments.
Boomstick: But when he's through with messing around, he'll hit you with the Assassin's Stab, which just straight up kills you. Uh... like, 20% of the time. So it's... of questionable utility.
Wiz: He can control the very ground you stand on with spells from Rubblerouser to Ridgeraiser, causing massive stones to stab anyone who moves within the sigil he creates, being able to trap entire groups of enemies at once.
Boomstick: Speaking of fighting groups of enemies, he can use Divide to create shadowy copies of himself that, while weaker, can still fight alongside him. Really, this spell's main upside is that it doesn't cost much MP to use.
Wiz: Yeah, but that brings up one of his main flaws - he doesn't have very much MP. Couple that with his low defense, and he isn't necessarily ideal for longer fights.
Boomstick: But don't count him out! He can still take quite a beating and just keep getting back up! If you want to keep him down, you're going to have to kill him!
Wiz: He's more than capable of performing acrobatic maneuvers and even digging a tunnel out of prison all the way to the sewer in... a significantly shorter amount of time than should be possible. When he gets pepped up, he enjoys bonuses to his strength, deftness, and evasion, and can unleash powerful Pep Powers like The Real Decoy, Wild Side, and Fire and Grimstone.
Boomstick: Not to mention that he can take something off of you with so little effort, you won't notice until it's too late! I wonder if he can teach me that...
Wiz: Erik is so determined to win, I pity whoever thinks it would be a good idea to take him on.
Erik: But sure enough, I went after the Orb, I wound up underground and... I met you.
Veronica[]
Serena[]
Sylvando[]
Boomstick: Wow. He's prettier than most girls I've seen!
Wiz: Norberto Rodrigo, the son of Don Rodrigo, was raised with a strict upbringing.
Boomstick: You see, ol' Don was one of the greatest knights of Heliodor, and you'd better believe he wanted the same thing for his son. So he trained him. A lot.
Wiz: But Norberto was actually very happy with this life. He didn't know any different, but he was content nonetheless.
Boomstick: Then, one day, the circus came to town.
Wiz: With new exposure came new feelings, and Norberto discovered who he truly was. But when he told his father, he was... less than proud, and they fought all night, with Norberto ultimately leaving to be his true self, to live his own life, where he can be happy.
Boomstick: Metaphor? What metaphor? I don't see a metaphor.
Wiz: So Norberto left home to become a performer.
Boomstick: And of course, with a new life came a new name.
Wiz: So The Great Sylvando, the traveling jester, was born!
Sylvando: There's nothing this world needs more than happy faces right now, so that's just what we're going to give it!
Boomstick: Skilled with knives and whips, as any jester would be, he packs quite the punch, using all kinds of crazy and resourceful tactics to get ahead.
Wiz: But he never forgot his father or his training, and therefore primarily uses his main weapon - the sword.
Boomstick: Boy, is he good with swords! Like, to a point where it's basically magic.
Wiz: A prime example is when he traveled all the way from the top of a tower of the Galopolis Palace down to the front entrance and killed the Slayer of the Sands right in front of Prince Faris AND a crowd of people at such high speed that no one knew what happened or saw him move.
Boomstick: Oh, and remember when I said that he's basically magic? Yeah, he's actually magic.
Wiz: He can breathe fire so hot that it can disintegrate metal knives with Hot Lick. But, at the same time, he seems to be able to control his own fire's heat, as he can also light his own sword on fire for a Flame Slash and then continue using that sword with no issue.
Boomstick: And he has some sort of transmutation ability, too. He can turn juggling balls into knives, or a pike into harmless bread, or himself into a rose, then a god damn EXPLOSION! Which, by the way, he survived rather effortlessly.
Wiz: With techniques like Fuddle Dance and Have a Ball, he can severely disorient and confuse his opponents.
Boomstick: And with techniques like Kiss Me Deadly and That's Amore, he can blow deadly kisses at foes that pack a surprising punch.
Wiz: He can control wind to whip up powerful tornadoes with Woosh, Swoosh and Pink Pirouette, and cast spells to buff himself as well as his allies in terms of strength and speed with spells like Oomph and Oomphle or Accelerate and Acceleratle.
Boomstick: But he can also slow an opponent down with Decelerate, or a whole group with Deceleratle.
Wiz: He can heal his entire team with Hustle Dance, himself with Miracle Slash, or give one team member a passive healing effect with spells like Remoreheal. When he gets pepped up, he receives bonuses to his strength, charm, and evasion.
Boomstick: Yeah, he's got a lot of stuff going for him. But then again, he has his share of weaknesses.
Wiz: The main one being that he primarily needs MP to be useful. He offers a number of benefits only he can provide, and he's insanely fast, but he can sometimes be a little lacking in sheer power. This means that other teammates often need to start using spells like M-Pathy to give him some of their own MP in longer fights. Still, though, this Knight in Smiling Armour can more than handle himself against any threat he may face.
Sultan of Gallopolis: Such chivalry! Who are you? Are you a knight?
Sylvando: Who, me? I’m just a silly old jester.

Trivia[]
- Connections between both teams involve of them coming from well-known Japanese-originated RPG video game series in 1980's (Shin Megami Tensei & Dragon Quest; though Persona debuted in 1996), their latest games coming from late 2010's and their leaders appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as downloadable characters.
- In this fight, Goro Akechi and Kasumi Yoshizawa aren't added on The Phantom Thieves' side because Akechi betrayed the Phantom Thieves (being not a permanent member)in the game and his supposed death, while Kasumi rejects a team's ideology despite later joining them. Also, Tonygameman thought it would be a fair battle between 8 members on each team.
