The Overlord crystalizes DEATH BATTLE![]
Wiz: Life cannot exist without Balance. Light cannot exist without Dark. Creation cannot exist without Destruction. And the First Spinjitzu Master cannot exist without The Overlord.
Boomstick: Yeah, before time even had a name, the First Spinjitzu Master’s world of Ninjago was so unbelievably good and pure that the Overlord was formed purely to counter the light Grandpa Gold made.
Wiz: And when light and dark meet, conflict is created. Destruction comes from this conflict, and when the Overlord was created, all he wanted to do was end this conflict...
Boomstick: Oh, well, that doesn’t seem too bad-
Wiz: By shrouding everything in Darkness.
Boomstick: Ahh, there it is.
Wiz: A battle, nay, a war broke out between the embodiments of good and evil. This was the era of the Stone Wars. The First Spinjitzu Master and the Overlord were evenly matched. The battle had no end, and a winner was completely undecided.
Boomstick: Realising this, the Overlord used his spooky dark powers to create the Stone Army, indestructible warriors that turned the tides of the Stone Wars. Suddenly, the First Spinjitzu Master found himself outnumbered and overwhelmed. So, being the sore loser he is, he decided the most logical course of action was to split the motherfucking continent in half, stranding the Overlord on the Island of Darkness.
Wiz: The battle ended in stalemate, but the Overlord would not be bested so easily. Moments before being trapped on the island, the Overlord infected a small, green serpent, corrupting it with his dark powers. This small snake seemed insignificant, but would become one of the most important creatures in the universe’s history, for this snake was the Great Devourer. The Embodiment of Darkness set the snake against the First Spinjitzu Master’s eldest son, the young Garmadon.
Boomstick: Yeah, for the Overlord planned everything from the beginning. It took generations of conflict, anger and hate, but the evil influence of the Great Devourer eventually led to the Overlord regaining a body to attack Ninjago once more. And then again...and again...
Wiz: He’s tried to shroud the world in Darkness a total of four times. We’ve covered his original rise and fall, but thousands of years later, the Garmadon corrupted by the Great Devourer washed upon the Dark Island’s beaches, and was manipulated by the spirit of darkness to corrupt Ninjago.
Boomstick: And then he possessed Garmadon because the Overlord is kind of a jerk, and turned his body into a vessel to regain his original form of a giant, black dragon!
Wiz: Even when thwarted by the might of the Golden Dragon, the Overlord always persists. You can erase his digital virus form. You can detonate his Golden Master vessel with pure ice, and it will eventually all be in vain.
Boomstick: Yeah, because like an annoying co-host, you just can’t get rid of him! Since the Overlord represents the Balance, he actually can’t be destroyed for good. You can defeat him, but this evil furry will eventually come back. Why?
Wiz: Because he feeds on anger, malice and violence. When they grow, he grows stronger and eventually takes form again. Even after Zane sacrificed his body, the Overlord returned yet again as the mighty Crystal King, fulfilling his part of Quanish the Elder’s final prophecy.
Boomstick: And this is the vessel of the Overlord we’ll mainly look at today! Fitting for the Crystal King, the Overlord can spread his evil influence through the use of his crystals! He can summon them with ease, using them as small bullets, big weapons, and shielding! These crystals can even corrupt people touched by them, turning them into crystal zombies!
Wiz: These crystals can spread throughout Ninjago City in about 10 seconds. By comparing the size of Ninjago to the curvature of the planet, and comparing this to maps that Tommy Andreasen, the creator of Ninjago, made, we can find that the Overlord's attack spread at over 25 times the speed of sound! These crystals likely stem from his dominion over the evil essence of Darkness, the main expression of his power. He can create powerful force fields, fire destructive energy blasts, generate purple lightning, and revive souls from the afterlife.
Boomstick: He can corrupt people with Darkness, imbuing them with new powers and abilities or just turning them into mindless drones that serve him.
Wiz: Even in his base Crystal King form, he can float around, lift the Oni Temple out of the ground, knock the powerful Master Wu around like a ragdoll, and create city-wide shockwaves of pure Darkness. His very presence is enough to make powerful villains such as Aspheera and King Vangelis squirm.
Boomstick: He can see in thermal vision, and detect people’s presence across an entire continent! He can fire breaths of Darkness from his mouth, and use blasts of it to lift and throw people away. And because the Overlord technically doesn’t have a true physical form, and all of his physical forms are really just shells for his power, the Overlord can change them at will, transforming them from a 4-armed bull-like thing to a fucking CENTAUR with a giant-ass sword!
Wiz: As a centaur, his power seems to skyrocket. Where he duelled evenly with Master Wu, he now overwhelms both Lloyd Garmadon and his father. Where he was resilient before, he can now regenerate lost body parts such as his hands, and he is completely immune to the effects of ice and fire. Indeed, he is also apparently unaffected by both Vengestone and the Dragonbone Blade, which can cancel elemental powers and absorb them, respectively.
Boomstick: He can slice through steel, fly around with his wings, and do battle with the might of the 4 Elements of Creation! He’s strong enough to hold all 4 Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu, which are powerful enough to create an entire continent!
Wiz: They can also create storms worth over 110 Gigatons of TNT! Let us not forget that the Overlord is on equal footing with the First Spinjitzu Master, who split Ninjago in two halves to end their battle. Based on shots of Ninjago seen from space in Season 3, we can deduce that splitting the continent in two would be over 1.36 Zettatons of TNT!
Boomstick: That’s enough energy to destroy a small planet, so Ollie is packing some serious heat!
Wiz: ...Ollie?
Boomstick: Yeah, it’s- it’s what some Ninjago fans call him.
Wiz: ...Right. Well. ‘Ollie's’ dominion over every villain in Ninjago would put him at least on the level of the Ice Emperor, who was able to plunge an entire realm in a decades-long winter. Similarly, he would more than likely be more powerful than the Oni and the Omega, given the First Spinjitzu Master is more powerful than them. The Oni were able to methodically plunge realms into ice-cold darkness one by one.
Boomstick: This power is supported just because the Overlord is the ultimate evil that is directly equal to the First Spinjitzu Master. Through this, we can also put the Overlord at a level above the Preeminent, the living embodiment of an entire Cursed Realm who is someone so revered for her power that she was said to be able to make every realm fall under her control.
Wiz: The Overlord has the speed to match his unfathomable power. Far faster than any Elemental Master, the Overlord would be far faster than Nya, who blocked multiple lasers from Nindroids. Worse still, Nadakhan the Djinn dodged multiple point-blank lasers, requiring a reaction speed close to the speed of light.
Boomstick: Also, this one warden at Kryptarium Prison dodged a laser from a laser cutter at point-blank ranger. Jesus, what have these Ninjagian- Ninjargon- Ninjagonian- Ninj-
Wiz: Humans.
Boomstick: Yeah, them. What have these guys done to get so fast?
Wiz: Regardless, the Overlord eclipses basically everyone he encounters. He was responsible for Garmadon’s fall to darkness, caused Harumi to plot against the Ninja, and manipulated her and Garmadon into giving him physical form on separate occasions. He’s a master planner, and leaves absolutely nothing to chance.
Boomstick: Except for when Harumi turned on him just because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut. Nice one, Ollie.
Wiz: He may be slightly too reliant on prophecies and ‘destiny’, but the Overlord is undeniably the most powerful villain in Ninjago’s long history and is the definition of a force of nature. Absolutely no-one compares. So when he eventually regains his physical form once again, you had better hope you have good heroes supporting you, or else the Overlord will finally achieve peace...
