History[]

The Cat in the Hat[]

He enters Sally and Conrad’s house in order to teach them to have fun. However, his methods end up causing a mess and a trail of destruction, resulting in their dog Nevins being thrown out of a window and running off in fright after releasing the troublemakers things One and Two, then gets worse when Conrad opens a crate that mixes the house with the Cat's world. In the ensuing chaos, Larry Quinn, who wants to marry their mother Joan for her money, forces the kids inside and are all confused to see the house cleaned up. When Larry suddenly sneezes, due to being allergic to cats, he turns around to see the Cat behind him and scares him, causing Larry to fall off a gooey purple abyss. The Cat and the kids then enter to find the crate and lock it up, managing to do so and returning the house to its normal proportions, but it immediately collapses. This ends up becoming the last straw for Conrad and Sally, who furiously order the Cat out of their house after he reveals to having planned the entire day, also knowing that Conrad would intentionally unlock the crate as he made that his only rule.

Conrad and Sally then decide to take the blame for the entire incident and agree to go to military school together. As they hear the door, bracing themselves to accept the consequences, instead of Joan, it is the Cat who returns and helps them clean the house up, after realizing that Conrad and Sally have both learned from their mistakes, finishing minutes before Joan arrives. The kids say their goodbyes to Cat and thank him for everything, only for them to initially beg him not to leave, but ends up doing so when Joan is about to enter the pristine house as if nothing had happened. Larry then attempts to expose Conrad and Sally but, given the house's normal state, Joan does not believe him and dumps him. The kids and Joan then spend quality of time together as the camera zooms out of the house to reveal the Cat as the narrator using a voice modulator, shortly before he stops and breaks the fourth wall saying that he was just about to leave. The Cat and the Things then walk off into the sunset.

Trivia[]

  • For the 2003 live-action adaptation of the book, Tim Allen was originally cast as the Cat. However, his scheduling conflicts with The Santa Clause 2 ended up forcing him to drop out of the project and he was replaced by Mike Myers.
    • Mike Myers was legally obligated to star in the film due to a lawsuit with Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment over a proposed Sprockets film adaptation, which was due to Myers not liking the script at all and refused to move forward as he simply needed two more months' writing time, but this was seen by Universal and Imagine as a breach of contract. Ultimately, Myers agreed to star in the film, in place of Sprockets, just to get them out of his hair.
