Description[]

King of Fighters vs Tekken! You may remember the old days of spending quarters to see who was the best Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat player, but these two were the icons of their successors! Who will win, the baseball hat-wearing wolf, or the fiery inheritor of the deadly Devil Gene?

Introduction[]

Koopa: When you think of some of the greatest and most iconic fighting games of all time, you’ll usually think of something like Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter.

Neo: But the games from these two master martial artists definitely deserve to be thrown into that conversation!

Bubbles: Terry Bogard, the Legendary Hungry Wolf from Fatal Fury.

Koopa: And Jin Kazama, the Child of Destiny from Tekken.

Neo: He’s Koopa, she’s Bubbles, and I’m Neo!

Koopa: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win…

Koopa, Bubbles and Neo: A DEATH BATTLE!!!

Terry Bogard[]

Koopa: Born an orphan alongside his brother Andy, Terry Bogard was destined for greatness despite his less-than-great upbringing.

Neo: Hell, Bogard wasn’t even his last name! That is, until a man named Jeff Bogard adopted him and Andy as his own, and trained them to be fighting machines! Now that’s what I call a good dad. I sure hope he doesn’t kick the buck-

A scene from the anime shows Jeff Bogard being murdered by Geese Howard.

Neo: Oh, come on! Can we have one character on this show who’s dad doesn’t die for once?

Bubbles: Unfortunately, at the age of ten, Terry watched his adoptive father die at the hands of the villainous crime lord, Geese Howard. Terry and Andy would then swear vengeance on Geese, training all their lives to avenge their late father.

Koopa: Terry in particular would become a master martial artist, mixing what he had learned from Jeff and combining it with different fighting styles such as boxing, karate and kung fu. Despite being much stronger than he used to be, he didn’t quite have everything he needed to take down Geese for good.

Neo: So Terry sought out his foster father’s old mentor, Tung Fu Rae, which just sounds like kung fu with your tongue. He taught Terry a pretty sweet technique which allows him to pull energy from the Earth and increase his move’s potency! This was known as the Hot Coke Say-ken!

Koopa: Ahem, Hakkyokuseiken.

Neo: I knew that.

Bubbles: Terry can use a wide variety of different techniques like the Burn Knuckle and Power Wave, as well as the Power Dunk, Crack Shoot and Rising Tackle. However, when using the power of Hakkyokuseiken, he can turn an ordinary Power Wave into a Power Geyser and his Burn Knuckle into the Buster Wolf.

Neo doing an impression of Terry: ARE YOU OKAY???

Koopa: With these newly attained abilities, Terry entered the King of Fighters tournament and came face-to-face with his greatest enemy, and successfully took down Geese Howard for good.

Neo: If only. Apparently he didn’t beat the hell out of him enough, so he did it again! That’s just how badass Terry Bogard is. He destroyed a large portion of a forest, jumped up an elevator shaft, tanked multiple energy shots, and defeated tough opponents like Krauser, Mars, Jamin and Geese Howard.

Bubbles: Jamin in particular was able to catch a bullet. To catch a bullet from a pistol would mean Jamin would have to react over twice the speed of sound, meaning that Terry can keep up with that kind of speed. He’s also traded blows with Kyo Kusanagi, who helped seal away Orochi, one of the most powerful characters in the King of Fighters universe.

Koopa: He’s survived factory explosions, destroyed buildings with his own special moves, and successfully won multiple King of Fighters tournaments against some of the greatest martial artists the world has ever seen. And with these accolades under his belt, he even took in Geese’s abandoned son, Rock Howard under his tutelage.

Neo: What a flex.

Bubbles: But unfortunately, Terry is somewhat of a sore loser. He can let failure get in the way of moving forward, and due to his laid back demeanor, can be a bit too cocky, even taking a second to put his hat on backwards during certain moves.

Neo: Still, with his many wins, the power of the Earth behind him like Captain Planet and one of the sickest outfits fighting games have ever seen, Terry Bogard is someone you don’t wanna mess around with. There’s a reason he’s considered the Legendary Hungry Wolf.

Terry: When next we meet, Geese.. You'll pay for my father's death!

Jin Kazama[]

Koopa: Born to a single mother, Ji-

Neo: Welp, looks like we already know where this is going.

Koopa: Neo, let me finish. Anyways, Jin was born to a single mother who taught him in the ways of the Kazama martial arts, not letting him know the truth of his father. She also told him to seek out Heihachi Mishima if anything bad were to ever happen to her, as she sensed a great evil in the near future.

Neo: Seriously, how is this not foreshadowing?

Bubbles: Soon after, a creature named Ogre attacked the two. Jin attempted to fight the monster, but was quickly knocked out, and when he woke up, Ogre and his mother were nowhere to be seen.

Neo: So Jin searched far and wide for his grandfather… scratch that, he looked for his grandfather’s huge empire. Turns out Heihachi owns the Mishima Zaibatsu, one of the biggest empires in the world with its own banking, military, and of course, a fighting tournament. Because that’s the next logical step.

Koopa: Still, Heihachi taught his new student the Mishima-Ryu fighting style, and combining it with what he learned from his mother, Jin gained new abilities and became much stronger for doing so.

Bubbles: With these new abilities, Jin entered the King of Iron Fist tournament.

Neo: Totally not ripping off any previously mentioned “King of” tournament, but okay.

Bubbles: After outlasting the competition, Jin finally came face-to-face with the man responsible for his mother’s disappearance. Ogre. The two fought, and Jin won. However, instead of looking for answers from the man himself, he just… killed him.

Neo: Nice going, dumbass.

Koopa: Though Jin would soon meet his maker, as he would then be assassinated by… Heihachi himself.

Neo: Plot twist! And an even bigger plot twist right after, because as it turns out, thanks to his family bloodline, Jin inherited the parasitic Devil Gene which turns him into a flying, laser-shooting half-human half-demon hybrid! Imagine that, you’re fighting a dude and he just suddenly grows horns and shoots lasers at you.

Bubbles: From there on, Jin would be one the deadliest fighters even Heihachi had ever seen. His fighting style revolves around long combos and energy-charged attacks such as the 10 Hit Combo, Flash Punch Combo, Crescent Kick or the Dragon Uppercut. And with his Devil Jin form, he can shoot lasers from his third eye and even fly.

Koopa: Jin can even power himself up with the Power Stance. In his base form, Jin won multiple King of Iron Fist tournaments and beat several strong opponents such as Kazuya, Heihachi, Jinpachi and Azazel. He’s even superior to Raven, who could throw around war robots like they were nothing.

Neo: He can even punch fast enough to create shockwaves, meaning he can punch faster than the speed of sound! As Devil Jin, he can obliterate forests, fly at just over Mach 30 speeds, and even survive a fall from orbit! And while Jin didn’t do it himself, Kazuya’s devil form is comparable to Jin’s current devil form, and Kazuya shot a blast powerful enough to erupt a volcano!

Bubbles: Still, while Jin’s devil form can be slightly uncontrollable at certain points leaving him vulnerable, it provides an enormous advantage combined with his already great strength. But Jin has been defeated on multiple occasions from significantly lesser opponents like Hwoarang and Lars because of this.

Koopa: But ultimately, Jin is no angel; his morality has been tested multiple times in the series. However, even with the demonic blood coursing through his veins, nothing can keep Jin, the child of destiny away from his true fate.

Jin: This curse, the Devil Gene... I will find a way to break free. I won't give up!

Interlude[]

Koopa: Alright, the combatants are set, let’s end this debate once and for all!

Neo: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!

Pre Fight[]

It was daytime at the time of the annual King of Fighters tournament. The stadium was packed with people, all surrounding a large football field with a giant stage in the middle, where a man in red with a red hat who’s name wasn’t Mario stood, ready to take on a man in… pink. The fight was about to begin, and the two stared each other down.

Dan: I know who you are, Terry Bogard! You think you’re so tough with your cool moves and Earth powers… well, I am here to prove you wrong! I, Dan Hibiki, master of the Saikyo Arts, will defeat you here and-

Before he could finish, the announcer dubbed the fight as beginning, and Terry dashed forward and delivered a quick series of punches and kicks before delivering a Buster Wolf.

Terry: Are you okay?!

Dan was sent flying out of the arena, crying for his father as he disappeared. The crowd went wild, cheering for Terry’s easy-but-well deserved victory. However, another opponent walked into the arena, wearing a red and black hoodie and black pants with a flame pattern. Terry looked back and observed this new challenger, adjusting his hat.

Terry: Well, you’ve definitely got my attention. Are you here to lose in front of hundreds of adoring fans?

Jin simply pulled on his gloves and took a fighting stance, throwing his hoodie to the side.

Jin: You’d better hope your fists are as loud as your mouth.

Terry smirked and took his own fighting stance, ready for the fight of his life.

FIGHT!

Fight[]

Jin and Terry ran at one another, landing hits and dodging others. The struggle ended with Jin kicking Terry and punching him back before he could even land. Terry recovered and ran at Jin, dodging a punch and delivering hard punches that ended with a flying kick. As Jin landed on his feet, Terry punched the ground, sending a Power Wave towards Jin. He was able to jump over it and attempted to start another combo, though Terry was able to use a Rising Tackle to catch Jin and followed it up with a Burning Knuckle, causing Jin to fall backwards.

Jin got back up and dodged a kick from Terry, kicking him into the air and following it up with multiple calculated hits, Terry seemingly not being able to counter until he was hit with a powerful punch that sent him rolling. Jin quickly took a stance, his fists glowing as red electricity glew around him. Terry ran at him and collided punches with him, causing the arena to shake as one half of the crowd cheered, the other shrieking in worry that the arena would collapse. Jin eventually kicked Terry into the air and hit him with 10 punches and kicks, ending with a powerful punch that drew blood from his opponent, causing his lip to bleed.

Terry ran forward and jumped over another kick from Jin, flipping and bringing his head down on his opponent with a Crack Shoot. Jin quickly got up and huffed, getting frustrated. He ran at his opponent once more, going for more reckless punches as Terry was able to dodge and counter. Jin roared, and threw another miscalculated punch before Terry threw him on the ground and hit him with a Power Dunk, punching him upwards and slamming him on the ground.

Suddenly, Jin’s energy started to surge. The ground was shaking, the audience members finally getting up from their seats to retreat to safety. Terry stood his ground as he watched the ordinary fighter turn into Devil Jin, growing wings, horns and a marking on his chest.

Terry: Well... definitely not something you see every day.

Devil Jin flew past Terry multiple times, Terry attempting to punch him, but he was moving faster than he could throw said punches. Devil Jin grabbed Terry and kicked him upwards, slashing at him multiple times before slamming him back down on the ground. Terry quickly dodged the returning ground pound from Jin, standing up quickly to fire multiple Power Waves towards Jin, though he was able to dodge nearly all of them.

Terry knew what he had to do. He started to glow blue, dashing towards Devil Jin and hitting him with quick, fast strikes that caused him to stagger. He finally reeled back and said his signature phrase:

Terry: ARE YOU OKAY?!

However, before he was able to dash forward and deliver the blow, Devil Jin took him by the throat and squeezed down, tossing Terry into the air and firing a laser through his heart, instantly killing him as he fell to the ground. Devil Jin flew back down and reverted back to his base form, wiping his forehead. He walked over and picked up his trademark red hat.

Jin: Shame. A powerful fighter, but a foolish spirit.

Jin walked out of the arena, tossing it to where Terry’s face was, covering it.

Post Fight[]

K.O!

Neo: Well, that’s a Terry-ble way to go out.

Koopa: Terry and Jin were comparable in quite a few ways. Both have been fighting since they were children, and possess other-worldly powers that kept one another busy for a good majority of the fight. Both have shown great strength, and kept up with opponents like Jamin and Heihachi, both of which could catch bullets.

Neo: The two had a lot in common, and Terry didn’t seem too outmatched… at first, anyway. When his opponent turned into Devil Jin, there really wasn’t a whole lot he could do. While ol’ DJ could totally be beaten by natural means, he gained a ton of new abilities that Terry just didn’t have the strength or durability to deal with.

Bubbles: Terry was strong enough to destroy a building, but Jin’s laser was similar to that of Devil Kazuya’s, who could cause a volcano to erupt. And while Terry has shown to be able to dodge bullets, a laser beam is far faster and much deadlier, so all Jin really needed was a solid shot on Terry to finish him off.

Koopa: That isn’t to say Terry couldn’t deal with Devil Jin at all. He’s fought opponents like Orochi, which prove he can keep up with more than just strong martial artists, but again, once Jin turned into his Devil Form, Terry had a severe handicap put on him. And even if Jin didn’t have the Devil Form, the outcome likely wouldn’t change much.

Neo: Jin’s fast enough to create shockwaves just by punching, tough enough to take hits from people who could throw around war robots like ragdolls, and powerful enough to fight Azazel, who was said to be able to destroy the planet! Definitely greater than anyone Ken with a hat could fight!

Bubbles: In the end, while Terry has shown to be one of the most powerful mortals in the King of Fighters universe, it was Jin’s strength, speed, and demonic energy that was able to secure a win over the Legendary Wolf.

Neo: Looks like Jin’s *fury* was *fatal* to Terry!

Koopa: The winner is Jin Kazama.
