Description[]
One Punch Man vs. Pokémon! From experiments to guardians, who will prove to be the better wielder of psychic power?
Interlude[]
Wizard: Psychic power is often marveled at by many as being one of the greatest forms of power to ever exist, and for good reason. Many have been bestowed with its awesome yet devastating power, be it by their choice, or having it thrust upon them.
Boomstick: And today we look at two of the strongest psychics to ever go at it.
Wizard: Tatsumaki, One Punch Man's Tornado of Terror.
Boomstick: And Mewtwo, the original Gen 1 Legendary Pokemon.
Boomstick: He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick!
Wizard: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Tatsumaki[]
Boomstick: The world of One Punch Man is...really, really weird. I mean you got cyborgs with arsenals the size of Mega Men, Monsters just roaming the world ready to cause chaos, alien invaders, and a guy who punches things to death in just one blow. It’s just a weird world, man.
Wizard: Thankfully the Hero Association exists to organize the superpowered heroes of the world and keep the people safe. While many heroes were born with their powers and others achieved them through training, one was...different.
Boomstick: I’ll say, she’s a complete brat!
Wizard: This is Tatsumaki.
Tatsumaki: Background[]
- Name: Tatsumaki
- Age: 28
- Height: 137 cm | 4’6”
- Weight: N/A
- Occupation: Hero
- S-Class hero, rank 2
- Obsessed with candy apples
- Favorite hobby: being a brat
Wizard: Tatsumaki is an Esper, which in the world of One Punch Man, is the classification for someone with extreme psychic powers. She was considered such a powerful prodigy that she was kidnapped and taken from her home to be detained in a research facility...at 7 years old.
Boomstick: Gee, poor kid. I almost feel sorry for her, but...you know-
Wizard: Thankfully, a surprise rescue from the hero Blast would result in her freedom, and inspire the young psychic to become a hero in her own right. Passing the Hero Associations Entrance exams, she would soon take up the title: Tornado of Terror.
Boomstick: Or Terrible Tornado if you're a dubbie.
Tatsumaki: Esper Powers[]
- Psychokinesis
- Telekinesis
- Psychic Restraint
- Psychic Strike
- Flight
- Psychic Whirlwind
- Telepathy
- Energy barriers
- Gravity manipulation
- Technomancy
- Fubuki’s Hell Storm
- Chi disruption
Wizard: After years of practice and training, Tatsumaki has honed her skills as an Esper exceptionally well, so much so she is regarded as the strongest Esper to ever exist. She can fly, hurl large objects with telekinesis, restrain others, and even create shields.
Boomstick: Her favorite method of attack is throwing rocks at people, you know like Krillin mains in FighterZ. Doesn’t matter when, where, or how, if it’s even remotely rock shaped, it’s coming flying straight at ya. But she can also strike people instantly with her powers with a blow strong enough to knock a normal human unconscious
Wizard: She can manipulate gravity, technology, create Earthquakes, read minds, and even learnt her sister Fubuki’s signature technique, the Hell Storm, where she creates a Tornado around her opponents, drawing in rocks to inflict damage.
Boomstick: Plus, she’s so incredibly powerful she can even manipulate the chi of other people. If she’s strong enough, she can negate their powers and even kill them. Even if she can’t do that, she can create psychic whirlwinds that will supposedly jam an Esper’s psychic powers.
Wizard: Tatsumaki is damn powerful, and she knows it. She’s fast enough to fight the One Punch Man himself Saitama at Mach 36 speeds, and even withstand an attack that's worth three hundred times the Earth's gravity.
Boomstick: Holy shit, all that for a brat not even five feet tall.
Tatsumaki: Feats[]
- Killed 10,000 foes simultaneously
- Flew past Mach 35 speeds
- Caused a magnitude 9 earthquake
- Compressed Hundred-Eyes Octopus into nothing
- Redirected Boros’ bullet hailstorm
- Lifted the Monster Association Base
- Summoned a Meteor from space
- Anime Only, but still applies
- Survived 300 times Earth’s gravity
- Defeated Genos, Ancient King, Black Sperm
- Genos blocked an attack from Psykos worth 36.4 Petatons of TNT
Boomstick: She’s skilled enough to take out 10,000 enemies all at once, create a magnitude 9 Earthquake, and was fast enough to block Boro’s bullet hailstorm moving eighteen hundred times the speed of sound.
Wizard: And at full power, she could lift the Monster Association’s home base out of the ground, a feat which requires her to be lifting over 3 BILLION tons. And that isn’t even counting the Heroes and Monsters inside.
Boomstick: Why, with that much power, she could even summon a giant meteor from space!
Wizard: That’s...oddly specific, and surprisingly correct.
Boomstick: Funny how that works out.
Wizard: Plus, she’s been able to briefly keep pace with Saitama in strength, and is constantly shown to be more powerful than Genos. Genos was able to block an attack from the villain Psykos, which we’ve calculated before when he fought Mega Man, and found said attack was worth 36 Petatons of TNT.
Boomstick: But even with all that power, Tatsumaki has her limits. She can’t fight forever, and when she finally does get tired, she can’t use her powers anymore.
Wizard: Plus, any damaging blows to her head can seriously damage her ability to use her Esper abilities. Hit her hard enough, and she may even lose them all together. In addition, she cannot attack and defend at the same time, and must focus on either one or the other.
Boomstick: And she’s just so damn cocky, basically assuming every other hero or villain couldn’t stand up to her. And while meeting Saitama has ultimately softened her up a bit, and helped mend her weird relationship with her sister, she’s still the same sassy lost child we all know and loathe...or love I guess.
Ancient King: So you aren’t helpless. But if you intend to destroy me, a giant meteor is about the only way.
Tatsumaki: Fine, I’ll do that then.
Cut to the Ancient King after being obliterated by a meteor.
Tatsumaki: How about another 3 million year nap?
Mewtwo[]
Wizard: In the world of Pokemon, there are a select few types of Pokemon known for their immense power that are sought after by numerous Pokemon Trainers. The power of Legendary Pokemon.
Boomstick: Like Groudon and Kyoger, or Solgaleo or Lunala, the big ass Pokemon who literally made the Hoenn and Alolah Regions, or even Arceus Himself, the god of all Pokemon.
Wizard: One of these Legendary Pokemon is Mew, a Pokemon with the DNA of all other Pokemon. Sadly, Mew was believed to have gone extinct, but a group of researchers found a shred of its DNA. And with that, they had one mission.
Boomstick: Clone Mew and create the ultimate Pokemon. And what they created was a complete success. They named it...Mewtwo.
Mewtwo: Background[]
- Name: Mewtwo
- Height: 6'07" | 200.6 cm
- Weight: 269 lbs | 122kg
- Type: Psychic
- Birthday: February 6
- Cloned from Mew's DNA
- Has too many backstories
Wizard: Now, there have been many, many Mewtwo’s across the numerous Pokemon Games, Manga, Anime, and all have had different details to their backstory. However, what remains consistent are harsh experiments it was subjected to. The original Mewtwo from Red Blue and Yellow was subject to horrific gene splicing experiments, so when it broke free, it trashed the lab and fled to hide in a cave.
Boomstick: The Mewtwo’s that appeared in Pokemon Origins and the Adventures Manga we’re based on that guy, though Adventure’s Mewtwo is closely tied to Blaine, and a similar fate befell the Mewtwo from Movie 16, though that one was a girl, and a less hostile than most other Mewtwo.
Wizard: But the most famous Mewtwo is the one from the first movie, created by Doctor Fuji and becoming close friends with a clone of his deceased daughter Amber, only for her to die again. As they feared death would be too traumatic for it, Fuji and his team erased Mewtwo’s memories of the event.
Boomstick: So now it was sad but had no idea why, just like me after a night at the pub! Anyways, after lashing out against his creators and being manipulated by the mob, Mewtwo decided he was gonna destroy humanity. At least until the forever 10 years old Ash Ketchum stepped in and showed him maybe humans weren’t so bad. After it accidentally turned him to stone that is...
Wizard: Regardless of the origin, Mewtwo is a dangerous foe in combat.
Mewtwo: Movelist[]
- Offensive
- Psychic
- Psycho Cut
- Psybeam
- Shadow Ball
- Swift
- Aura Sphere
- Psystrike
- Hyper Beam
- Defensive
- Teleport
- Counter
- Recover
- Disable
- Confusion
- Safeguard
- Barrier
- Abilities
- Pressure
- Unnerve
- Mind Control/Reading
- Memory Erasing
Boomstick: As a Psychic type, Mewtwo can obviously use, well, Psychic abilities like...Psychic.
Wizard: It can telekinetically lift foes off the ground and toss them around and even top physical objects like Pokeballs in their tracks. It can also manifest Psychic energy as ultra-sharp blades with Psycho Cut and fire concentrated blasts of energy with the iconic Shadow Ball, or the Aura Sphere and Psybeam.
Boomstick: Mewtwo can attack with never-miss starts using Swift, but it’s two best moves are his now signature Psystrike, ya know it’s Final Smash in Smash bros, and the Legendary Hyper Beam, a move so iconic literally everyone who’s played Pokemon has used it at some point and is basically a god-damn Kamehameha.
Wizard: Hyper Beam is so powerful however, that using it leaves Mewtwo exhausted for a brief period to recharge his energy. But Mewtwo does not focus purely on offensive abilities, as he has a number of defensive and status moves like Barrier, Counter, Recover, and Safeguard.
Boomstick: Disable, well, disables your ability to use one of your attacks, plus heal injuries with Recover, confuse you with Confusion, fucking Teleport, and even Read Minds! Oh come on, that’s not a Pokemon move!
Wizard: Well, no, but Mewtwo does demonstrate the ability to read and control minds, as well as erase memories in the movies. However, Mewtwo also doesn’t display common use of these abilities in combat, likely finding using those abilities to win dishonorable.
Boomstick: But you know what it will use to win? Super Forms. Behold, with the power of its Mega Stone, it becomes Mega Mewtwo Y! Why...why Y specifically?
Mega Mewtwo Y[]
- Height: 4'11" | 150 cm
- Weight: 72.8 lbs | 33 kg
- Type: Psychic
- New Ability: Insomnia
- Prevents affliction by Sleep and Yawn
- Increases attack, special attack, special defense & speed
- Reduces physical defense
Wizard: That’s likely due to it having a second Mega Evolution dubbed Mega Mewtwo X, but that’s not important. As Mega Mewtwo Y, Mewtwo sacrifices its physical defense to boost its attack power, speed, and special defense.
Boomstick: It also gains the ability to not fall asleep, a power I wish I didn’t have. Mega Mewtwo Y is stupid strong though, according to its stats, it’s literally the strongest Pokemon ever tied with Mega Rayquaza! And Mega Rayquaza blew up a planet busting meteor!
Wizard: Well, Pokemon stats aren’t inherently applicable to their canon strength. However, surprisingly, Mewtwo does still scale to this. See, that meteor was being controlled by Deoxys, who Rayquaza battled and defeated. In the Manga, Mewtwo engaged in a similar duel with Deoxys, and while he only barely won thanks to some outside help from Red, he still held his own.
Mewtwo: Feats[]
- Created a planet-destroying storm
- Teleported a 92 billion gallon lake
- Casually flew into space
- Fast enough to dodge lightning
- Battled Mew, Red, & Zygarde
- Comparable to Rayquaza
- Defeated Deoxys, Articuno, Genesect, Ash & Goh
Boomstick: Later in the Manga, Mega Mewtwo Y battled against Zygarde, again being comparable in power but unable to win on it’s own. Zygarde is comparable to Xerneas, the Pokemon who allows the Earth itself to rotate around the sun! Needless to say, Mewtwo is pretty capable of blowing up the planet if he wanted!
Wizard: Mewtwo is also a deadly fast Pokemon, being able to easily fly into space and dodge lightning, lift and teleport an entire lake, and even created a storm capable of destroying all human life on the planet with it’s psychic powers.
Boomstick: Its battled and defeated powerful Trainers and Pokemon like Mew, Articuno, the Genesect, and even had a rematch with Ash, where he didn’t turn the poor kid to stone.
Wizard: Still, Mewtwo is capable of being defeated in battle by an opponent stronger than it, as even his powers have limits. Plus, as a Psychic type, Mewtwo is naturally weak to Ghost, Dark, and Bug type attacks.
Boomstick: Guess they really...BUG it. Eh? Eh?
Wizard: …*he sighs* Despite all that, Mewtwo has come to learn it’s more than a monster made for destruction, but a protector of both Pokemon and Humans. And when it's needed most, that is when it will return.
Mewtwo: If someday you hear my voice, know that it is my spirit calling across time and space, to yours.
DEATH BATTLE![]
Wizard: Alright the combatants are set, it's time to end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!
(Underground Laboratory)
Pain. A jolt of pain shocks Mewtwo awake, the Legendary Pokemon looking around the dark laboratory it’s being held in. Human scientists are talking, Mewtwo notices it’s limbs restrained, and it’s eyes narrow.
The restraints holding Mewtwo begin to contort before the snap, freeing it as a large pulse of Psychic energy suddenly goes flying outwards, shortly after followed by a massive explosion.
(D-City)
Tatsumaki bites down as a Candy Apple on a stick as she sits on a bench with her sister, Fubuki. As she opens her mouth to take another bite, an explosion goes off in the distance, surprising the Esper Sisters.
Fubuki: I wonder who’ll get dispatched to handle that?
Tatsumaki: I will.
Fubuki blinks as she looks over, Tatsumaki handing her Candy Apple to her sisters before floating up and flying off to the source of the explosion.
Fubuki: ...Stay safe, Tatsumaki.
Cue Pokemon XY - Battle! Mewtwo
Back at the explosion, Mewtwo floats out of the hole it had created as it lands in the city, taking a moment to look around at a few startled humans. Figuring it’s best to just leave, it begins floating away, only to get blasted back down by a psychic blast.
Tatsumaki: So you're the freak interrupting my day off! I’ll crush you for that!
Mewtwo: I do not want to fight you, bratty lost child.
Tatsumaki: ...you just sealed your fate.
Raising her hand, Tatsumaki grabs a nearby car and a fire hydrant as Mewtwo begins charging up Shadow Ball, which it fires into the car that Tatsumaki uses as a shield. Sending the automobile at Mewtwo, the Pokemon flies backwards and fires a second Shadow Ball that Tatsumaki stops with a shield before she shoves Mewtwo into the ground with a Psychic grip.
Tatsumaki: It’s over!
Attacking with Psychic Strike, Tatsumaki snaps her fingers as Mewtwo hits the ground, only for it to grab a nearby truck and fling it into Tatsumaki to send her flying backwards.
Tatsumaki: Gah!
Mewtwo: Very well, I shall entertain you!
Floating into the air, Mewtwo charges up an Aura Sphere and fires it to blast Tatsumaki into and through a building, causing her to slam into a second one.
Tatsumaki: What?!
Mewtwo suddenly appears in front of her, grabbing her with Psychic as it closes its fist to crush her before she gets slammed into the ground, face first in a crater.
Tatsumaki: What?!
Flying downwards, Mewtwo smacks Tatsumaki with its tail to send her hurling through the air before it chases after, but Tatsumaki finally recovers and creates a shield that she uses like a battering ram to slam into Mewtwo and push it back.
Raising his hand, Mewtwo uses Swift and fires several stars at Tatsumaki, but she grabs them with her psychic powers and throws them all back at Mewtwo, who reflects them back at Mewtwo using a barrier.
Tatsumaki: (Cocky Laugh) What’s wrong freak, can’t keep up?
Mewtwo: Please. Be quiet.
Mewtwo grabs Tatsumaki and pulls her in before they physically punch Tatsumaki in the face, enhanced by their psychic powers, and she goes flying backwards. Flying after her, Tatsumaki grabbed several cars off the ground and lifted them up to her level, throwing them at Mewtwo. The Legendary Pokemon dodged a few of them, but then got hit in the gut with a six-wheeler.
Only for it to teleport behind Tatsumaki and begin charging up Psybeam. Tatsumaki gasps before she turns and begins flying backwards, forming a shield as Mewtwo fires the Psybeam, barely managing to hold it back.
Tatsumaki grunts before she grabs the Psybeam with her Psychic powers, pushing it back into Mewtwo to blast them with his own attack. With Mewtwo stunned, she thrusts her arm down and slams it into the ground by increasing his gravity, and then begins using her sister’s Hell Storm.
As the Psychic Tornado forms in the middle of the city, Mewtwo gasps when it sees cars getting pulled off the ground and chuckles of buildings getting ripped apart.
Mewtwo: Are you insane!?
Tatsumaki: Just shut up and die!
Throwing all the collected junk down onto Mewtwo, the Legendary Pokemon was crushed under the weight, Tatsumaki’s psychic strength overpowering them as she stacked more and more on top until they couldn’t be seen. Believing the fight to be over, Tatsumaki sighs as the Hell Storm disperces.
Tatsumaki: Nobody beats me.
Beneath the rubble, Mewtwo grunts as it begins pushing upwards, a few bleeding cuts on its body leaving small puddles of blood on the ground. Closing its eyes, Mewtwo begins to focus on it’s Psychic abilities, it’s unique bond with humans, and it’s situation.
And then, Mewtwo’s true power flared to life, blasting the rubble away. Tatsumaki’s eyes widened as she turned around to see Mega Mewtwo Y fly up, healing itself with Recover. Lifting it’s hand up, Mewtwo fired a Hyper Beam that Tatsumaki narrowly dodged, but still left a few small cuts on her sleeves and singed a bit of her hair, causing the Esper to scowl in annoyance.
Tatsumaki: What are you?!
Cue Brandon Yates - One Hundred Percent
Tatsumaki’s hands glow green as she pins Mewtwo to the side of a building, her eyes then glowing green as she tries to read it’s mind using her telepathy. Using this open opportunity, Mewtwo counters by reading her mind as well, leaving them both in a slightly surprised state for a moment.
A shared feeling of wanting to be free. They both knew it all too well, silently staring at each other for a moment as if waiting to see if peace was an option.
Mewtwo: ...You know, it doesn’t have to be this way, Tatsumaki.
Tatsumaki: ...Yes, it does!
Mewtwo lets out a sigh before it breaks free from Tatsumaki’s hold, launching at her and slamming into the Esper at full force. The two go flying for a moment before Tatsumaki free’s herself with an outwards pulse of Psychic energy, only to notice they’re now above a forest.
Mewtwo appears above her with a teleport and fires Swift again, Tatsumaki getting blasted into the forest and through several trees as she does. Flying after her, Mewtwo and Tatsumaki clash a few times before a Shadow Ball sends Tatsumaki flying, and Mewtwo continues to pursue the Esper.
Tatsumaki raises a hand to call something from the sky, but is interrupted by a powerful Aura Sphere hitting her and breaking her concentration after a moment. Blood begins trickling from an open wound on her head, but she’s still able to hold a shield that keeps Mewtwo back before she grabs and hurls it into the sky.
Mewtwo goes flying into orbit, slamming into an oncoming Asteroid flying towards the planet and is being held on it by Tatsumaki. With a grunt, the Tornado of Terror focuses all her power into keeping Mewtwo on the Asteroid as it begins falling into the forest, only for a Hyper Beam to explode the Asteroid and fly outwards at Tatsumaki.
Tatsumaki winces as she creates a shield, blocking the attack with all her might before the shield explodes, sending her back slightly as she begins breathing heavily from exhaustion. She was tired, barely able to keep flying, let alone form any other attacks.
And there was Mewtwo, floating up and once again using Recover to heal itself. Raising a hand, Mewtwo begins charging up a Psystrike aimed at Tatsumaki as she tries to do something, anything, but nothing comes out. She’s drained, and unable to protect herself.
And ultimately, she lowers her head in shame.
Tatsumaki: I’m sorry...Fubuki.
Mewtwo fires the Psystrike, the blast hitting Tatsumaki and immediately begins convulsing with purple psychic energy. She wants to scream, but aside from the sudden increase in her rapid breathing, finds she isn’t actually under much physical pain.
Mewtwo: You fought well, Tatsumaki. Goodbye.
And in that moment, Tatsumaki explodes in a blast of Psychic energy, Mewtwo lowering its head for a moment of silence, to honor the human who gave him a worthy battle.
Conclusion[]
Boomstick: You Wiz, I’m almost sad to see the brat go. Almost.
Wizard: This was a surprisingly interesting battle. Tatsumaki was definitely the more experienced and better trained of the two, since she went through actual training, though Mewtwo certainly had the experience to keep up across all his incarnations.
Boomstick: Yeah, plus she could lift way more than Mewtwo! Mewtwo may be able to lift 2 billion tons of water, but Tatsumaki could lift over 3 Billion tons of rock! But despite that, Mewtwo still had everything he needed to ground the bratty Esper.
Wizard: For starters, it was nearly five times faster, and was way more versatile with its larger arsenal. Mewtwo could do pretty much everything Tatsumaki could, and then some, ensuring it was always one step ahead of her.
Boomstick: Barriers, telepathy, telekinesis, flight, Mewtwo had Tatsumaki beat in all of them. Plus, Tatsumaki was significantly outclassed in ranged combat since all she could do was throw physical objects while Mewtwo had moves like Shadow Ball, Aura Sphere, Hyper Beam, and Psystrike.
Wizard: Mewtwo also had the defensive edge, with Recover, Barrier, Counter, and Shadowguard meaning he was better at protecting itself too. And while the Mega Mewtwo form does decrease its physical defease…
Boomstick: They were so fast and tough it didn’t really matter.
Wizard: Exactly. Tatsumaki may have been physically stronger, but that was nothing compared to how much stronger Mewtwo was destructively. Tatsumaki may scale to Genos blocking that 36 petaton blast, but Mewtwo matching Zygarde and Deoxys means they can produce blasts which, at minimum, are worth 24 Zettatons of TNT.
Boomstick: Way more than enough to annihilate the planet, and Tatsumaki along with it. Sure, Mewtwo isn’t as strong as them, but it's still more than strong enough to win this battle. Oh, and no duh, but Mewtwo was way tougher.
Wizard: And Mewtwo’s greater power meant Tatsumaki couldn’t try suppressing his chi and blocking his Psychic powers. Ultimately, Tatsumaki’s superior training, experience, and strength certainly kept this fight from getting one sided, but Mewtwo’s greater speed, versatility, intelligence, and destructive power won this fight.
Boomstick: Mewtwo just got the Critical Hit to make this one bad Esperience for Tatsumaki.
Wizard: The winner is Mewtwo.
