Tanjiro Kamado vs. Edward Elric is a What-If DEATH BATTLE! adopted by TheFrostKnight. It features Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist.
Warning: If you somehow weren't expecting this, there will be spoilers for the Kimetsu no Yaiba manga. This is your first and last warning.
Description[]
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba vs. Fullmetal Alchemist! There's nothing more important in the world than family, and these two shonen protagonists understand that greatly. They'll go through extreme lengths to fix their siblings, and it's time to prove that in a battle to the death!
Introduction[]
Eraserhead: As the older sibling, it's part of your responsibility to take care of the younger ones. Whether it be helping raise them, defending them from those who wish to harm them, or-
Present Mic: Join an organization to find a cure for their bodies?
Eraserhead: Uh, right. After their younger siblings were cursed after a freak incident, these two joined organizations dedicated to killing regenerative monsters to help fix them.
Present Mic: Tanjiro Kamado, the heir of the Hinokami Kagura!
Eraserhead: And Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist.
Present Mic: He's Eraserhead, and I'm Present Mic!
Eraserhead: And it's our job to analyze their armor, weapons, and skill to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE!
Tanjiro Kamado uses his Head and Vigor in DEATH BATTLE![]
Eraserhead: I'm sure everyone has heard of the saying "All good things must come to an end." And if anybody knows what that saying means, it's a young boy named Tanjiro Kamado.
Present Mic: In the Taisho period, Tanjiro and his family were living peacefully in the mountains. They didn't have much money, but they had each other, and that's all that really mattered to them.
Eraserhead: Sadly, Tanjiro's father, Tanjuro, passed on due to an illness that had been plaguing him for years. So as the oldest sibling, Tanjiro took it upon himself to help raise his siblings with his mother.
Present Mic: But in a few years, Tanjiro would soon find out that his father wasn't going to be the only family he would lose. Tanjiro went out in the town, trying to sell charcoal for his family. He was on his way home at the dead of night, but his neighbor Saburo ordered him to stay at his house in fear of the demons attacking him. Tanjiro didn't understand, yet he agreed to spend the night at his house.
Eraserhead: A decision that would prove to be a good one. Tanjiro came back home in the morning, only to find that his family had been brutally slaughtered. There was only one survivor. His little sister, Nezuko.
Present Mic: And even worse is that Nezuko had been transformed into the very beast Saburo had warned him about: a demon!
Eraserhead: But believe it or not, this wasn't as bad as it seems as Nezuko wasn't like other demons. She eventually recognized her elder brother after trying to eat him, even though demons go blind when they're hungry.
Present Mic: Not only that, but when a mysterious man named Giyuu attacked and knocked out her brother, she immediately stood by his side and protected him.
Eraserhead: Giyuu recognized the potential these two had, and he guided Tanjiro to his former teacher so he could become a demon slayer, fix his sister, and get revenge on the demon king who murdered his family.
Present Mic: But of course, sheer determination alone isn't enough to take down demons! He'd need a way to match a demon's raw speed and power.
Eraserhead: Which he does in the form of Breath Styles.
Present Mic: Oh, come on! Anybody can breathe. How is that gonna help kill blood-thirsty demons?
Eraserhead: By inhaling as much oxygen as possible, Demon Slayers can increase the speed of their blood flow, allowing them to increase their stats to superhuman degrees.
Present Mic: With Breathing Styles, Tanjiro can do some pretty impressive shit like slowly heal hemorrhages, deflect and redirect projectiles, and make you see/feel things that aren't there.
Eraserhead: Tanjiro also knows a variety of techniques thanks to Water Breathing. He can slash forward with the Water Surface Slash or the Striking Tide, slash downward with Waterfall Basin, and attack in a spinning motion with the Water Wheel.
Present Mic: Tanjiro can thrust his blade at others and soften the impact of objects with the Drop Ripple Thrust, create vortexes of air that are even more powerful underwater with Whirlpool, and with Blessed Rain after the Drought, Tanjiro can decapitate foes and make them feel at peace, as if a light drizzle is gracing their skin. Talk about killing someone with kindness!
Eraserhead: As Water Breathing is used for flexibility, Tanjiro has a lot of moves relating to movement. Tanjiro can minimize his footwork with the Splashing Water Flow, spin and slice up everything in his way with the Flowing Dance, and increase his power and speed via constantly rotating with Constant Flux.
Present Mic: Of course, Tanjiro's abilities aren't just limited to Water Breathing. For example, his awesome sense of smell. Tanjiro can detect others, tell what type of person you are, how many people a demon has eaten, and even predict movements! How the hell is that even possible?
Eraserhead: Oh, trust me. It gets weirder from here. Tanjiro can increase his strength and speed mid-fight to adapt to an opponent that completely overpowers him.
Present Mic: Tanjiro has a mysterious tattoo known as the Demon Slayer mark. It allows him to increase his physicality and even lets him access the Transparent World.
Eraserhead: The Transparent World is a form of extrasensory perception that slows Kamado's perception of the world and even lets him see his enemy's blood flow, joints, and muscles, allowing him to easily predict their moves.
Present Mic: Man, after seeing how he has several ways to increase his stats, it's almost like Tanjiro was built for hunting demons!
Eraserhead: Funnily enough, you're mostly right. One of Tanjiro's ancestors, Sumiyoshi, was best friends with the pioneer of Breath Styles, Yoriichi Tsugikuni. In fact, he created the first Breath Style, Hinokami Kagura.
Present Mic: Also known as Sun Breathing. Prior to them splitting ways, Yoriichi, along with giving him his hanafuda earrings, showed Sumiyoshi all of his forms which would be passed down to his male desecendants, including Tanjiro.
Eraserhead: Sun Breathing is stronger than any other Breath Style, can leave burning sensations where the victim was cut, and even hamper regeneration. And with it comes even more forms Tanjiro can utilize.
Present Mic: Tanjiro can slash forward with Dance, do a 360O attack with Clear Blue Sky, thrust with the blade's point with Sunflower Thrust, seemingly make a dragon out of haze that can decapitate multiple foes with Dragon Sun Halo Head, and use a vertical then horizontal slash with Flame Dance.
Eraserhead: Tanjiro has several moves that take place within the air. Such as the Fire Wheel is a form where he leaps behind an opponent and slices in a circular motion, the Setting Sun Transformation, a technique that has the user backflipping in the air while trying to decapitate their target, and the Beneficent Radiance, where the user spirals into the air and releases a slash that surrounds the enemy.
Present Mic: Not all of Kamado's Sun Breathing forms are pure offense. He has some defensive ones as well. He can slash forward or in a circular motion to defend himself from frontal attacks with Raging Sun and Burning Bones, Summer Sun.
Eraserhead: Tanjiro can make an illusion that tricks an opponent into thinking he's in a particular spot Fake Rainbow technique. And with the Solar Heat Haze, the demon slayer makes an opponent believe that an attack missed them, only for them to realize it didn't.
Present Mic: Finally, Tanjiro can combine all of his moves to create the Thirteen Form. This is specifically used to target Muzan's 5 hearts and 7 brains.
Eraserhead: Speaking of combining things, since Sun Breathing was the blueprint of all other Breath Styles, Tanjiro can somewhat use other breath styles, as seen when he combined Dance with Zenitsu's Thunderclap and Flash to make Dancing Flash, a form that uses the power of Sun Breathing and speed of Thunder Breathing.
Present Mic: Not only that, Tanjiro can combine Water Breathing with the Hinokami Kagura to utilize the former's speed and lack of strain with the latter's sheer power.
Eraserhead: But of course, none of this would be possible with Tanjiro's nichirin blade, a katana created from sunlight-absorbing ore. It even has a variation that could, combined with the Hinokami Kagura, affect Muzan's regeneration on the cellular level for hundreds of years.
Present Mic: And it's thanks to Sun Breathing's sheer power that Tanjiro can keep up with some powerful demons like Daki whose Obis could slice through an entire neighborhood or Doma. In an extremely weakened state, Doma created a massive ice statue, a feat that's equal to 321 tons of tnt! Even better is that Doma did this while poisoned, so his average AP should be 2 or 3 times higher.
Eraserhead: Another demon Tanjiro could keep up with is Gyutaro. His Blood Tornadoes were so powerful, they could destroy an entire district, resulting in 4 kilotons.
Present Mic: Tanjiro is much stronger and tougher than Zenitsu in terms of strength and durability. Zenitsu can withstand moving at Mach 1830, so the kinetic energy being placed on his body would be 217 tons of tnt! And speaking of speed...
Present Mic: Tanjiro can dodge a demon's attack point-blank which is Mach 50 and should be comparable to top tiers like Muichiro who sliced up thousands of fish at a speed of Mach 526.
Eraserhead: Further backing this up is Tanjiro being able to land hits of Muzan who blitzed a Lower Moon which was calculated to be Mach 177.
Present Mic: But just how life isn't perfect, Tanjiro isn't either. He's a bit headstrong and has a habit of biting off more than he can chew. And as powerful as Sun Breathing is, overusing it can take a toll on Tanjiro's body.
Eraserhead: But none of these flaws were enough to stop Tanjiro from turning his sister back into a human and putting an end to the demon king's reign of terror. With Muzan defeated, the world could finally begin a new era of peace.
Tanjiro: There are monsters in this world. Monsters with no souls. Monsters who take life without hesitation, remorse, or regret. Their aggression... is something I can't forgive!
Edward Elric obtains a Fullmetal Heart in DEATH BATTLE![]
Eraserhead: Man cannot obtain anything without first sacrificing something. In order to obtain anything, something of equal value is required. That is the law of equivalent exchange.
Present Mic: And that was a lesson Edward and Alphonse Elric were forced to learn from a young age. The boys were living happily with their mother, Trisha Elric, in the small town of Resembool. That was until she died from a sickness.
Eraserhead: Desperate to bring her back by any means, Edward and Alphonse committed the ultimate taboo among alchemists: human transmutation.
Present Mic: Needless to say, it didn't work out too well. During the ritual, shit hit the fan and Edward lost his arm and his leg. But Alphonse had it even worse! His entire body was destroyed!
Eraserhead: Unwilling to lose both his mother and brother, Edward bound Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. And it worked. So after that unfortunate event, Edward became a State Alchemist, and the two brothers set out on a journey to repair their bodies.
Present Mic: But this wasn't all for nothing. Edward, and Alphonse at a later point, had the ability to use alchemy without drawing a transmutation circle after seeing "the truth". It may be a crappy situation, but at least he got something out of it.
Abilities[]
- H2H Skill
- Transmutation
- Weapon Creation
- Environment Manipulation
- Limited Healing
Eraserhead: With alchemy, Edward can transmute matter itself. He can forge spikes from the ground, create giant pillars to crush others, and make walls to block someone's escape.
Present Mic: Edward's alchemy can even be used to make weapons like cannons or spears. And that includes his automail arm, allowing him to turn it into a badass blade.
Eraserhead: Due to his experience with Philosopher Stones, Edward can actually use himself like one, being able to sacrifice his life force for various effects. For example, he can stop bleeding or likely increase his power. Though, this comes at the cost of shaving a few years off his lifespan.
Present Mic: Along with his alchemy, Edward is a pretty adept fighter, having been trained in using alchemy as well as in martial arts by his teacher, Izumi Curtis. Because of his small size-
*gun cocks*
Present Mic: Uh, what I meant to say was that Edward is super mobile because he's really, really tall?
Feats[]
- Created a large statue
- Survived Kimblee's blast
- Kept up with Hohenheim
- Defeated the Slicer Brothers, Lan Fan, and Father
Eraserhead: Anyways, Edward's quite powerful too. He can create large statues at a energy of 0.07 tons of tnt and fight on par with Gluttony who destroyed a bridge with the force of 0.5 tons of tnt.
Present Mic: But his durability is a lot better. He managed to survive Kimblee's explosion which destroyed a large portion of the city, resulting in 445 kilotons at best!
Eraserhead: Edward's pretty quick too, being able to dodge and block bullets which is faster than the speed of sound. Edward should scale to Hohenheim who reacted to lightning. That's 1,472,640 miles per hour or over 1,920 times the speed of sound.
Present Mic: Woah, no wonder Edward's the youngest State Alchemist ever. Powerful as his alchemy may be, it's not unbeatable though.
Faults[]
- Short-tempered
- Needs to clap his hands before performing alchemy
- Alchemy has limits
- Is hella short
Eraserhead: Edward is fairly easy to piss off and will get irritated if you make fun of his height. And even though he doesn't need a transmutation circle to use alchemy, it still has limits. He can't create anything out of nothing nor can he change something fundamentally than from what it is before.
Present Mic: And speaking of his alchemy, Edward has to clap his hands before he can use it, so that might be a problem if his hands are restrained.
Eraserhead: After finally defeating Father, he realized what he needed to do in order to get his brother's body back: give up his alchemy entirely.
Present Mic: A sacrifice Edward was more than willing to make. After all, he didn't need it when he's made so many friends and teammates along the way.
Eraserhead: By the end of the journey, and after all the hardships he endured, Edward Elric finally obtained a fullmetal heart.
Pop-Up: A lesson without pain is meaningless. That's because no one can gain without sacrificing something. But by enduring that pain and overcoming it, he shall obtain a powerful, unmatched heart. A fullmetal heart.
DEATH BATTLE![]
Eraserhead: Alright, then. We've finished the examination of the combatants and calculated all possible outcomes of this matchup.
Present Mic: But before we get to that, it's time for a DEATH BATTLE!
Place your bets in this poll before reading the fight/analysis (or not, it's up to you tbh).
The sun was finally beginning to set over the thriving city of Central. While most citizens would be hanging out with friends or getting ready to sleep, one, or should I say two, in particular would be doing the exact opposite. His name was Tanjiro Kamado, a boy with black hair with burgundy tips, a green and black haori, and a box strapped around his back. Tanjiro grabbed the straps holding the box and placed it down gently. "It's alright, Nezuko. You can come out now."
The box's door opened. A young girl wearing a pink kimono that matched the color of her eyes along with a bamboo stick in her mouth slowly crawled outside of the box. Okay, I know that sounds really bad out of context, but I can explain. Anyways, this young lady's name was Nezuko Kamado, Tanjiro's little sister who had been transformed into a supernatural being known as a demon.
Now that Nezuko was released from her box, she and Tanjiro sat down at a nearby bench. After a day of battling demons, the two deserved a break. The young demon laid her head on her elder brother's shoulders, dozing off. Tanjiro glanced at her with a smile before gazing into the night sk-
A loud explosion was heard, quickly waking up Nezuko and catching Tanjiro's attention. The duo looked towards the commotion and saw a large smokescreen from a distant location in the city. "What was that?!" Tanjiro exclaimed. The boy shot up from the bench, and his sister soon mirrored his actions. "Come on, Nezuko. Someone might be in trouble!" Nezuko nodded as the two ran off to see what caused the explosion.
In a dark alley from all prying eyes, a certain State Alchemist was locked in a fierce battle with a criminal. As for this State Alchemist, he had a red coat and blond hair along with yellow eyes. He was Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist.
"Just give up, you stupid brat!" The criminal, a former State Alchemist, demanded. "Not a chance in hell!" Edward retorted. Using the transmutation circle on his glove, the former State Alchemist created a multitude of spikes from the ground. However, Edward immediately clapped his hands together and placed them on the ground, summoning a pillar. He jumped on said pillar and narrowly avoided the spikes rushing towards him.
The criminal wasted no time in touching the wall behind him which created several pillars that rushed towards the older Elric brother. However, this boy was no slouch. He jumped off his own pillar and ran across the pillars the former State Alchemist made. Edward jumped down directly in front of him.
Edward roundhouse kicked at him, but the man blocked it and responded with a quick jab. Reacting just in time, Edward ducked under and punched him into the wall behind him. The former State Alchemist was stunned, however, this gave him a great opportunity to counterattack. He placed his hand the wall once again, making a small yet fast pillar that hit Edward right in his nose. "Dammit!" Edward mumbled as he covered his now-bleeding nose.
"You're done for, kid!" The former State Alchemist threatened as he created another spike, this one sharper than the rest. It shot at Edward's heart at the speed of a bullet. It looked as though Edward was about to meet his demise until...
"Water Breathing, Fourth Form: Striking Tide!"
Edward opening his eyes to see that the spike coming towards him had been cut in half. "What the-" The Fullmetal Alchemist questioned until he saw two figures, Tanjiro and Nezuko. "Hey kid, are you alright?" Tanjiro concernedly asked. "Kid? I'm 15 years old." Edward responded, confused. "Oh! I'm sorry, it's just you're so little."
...
"...Uh, right. Sorry." Tanjiro apologized. Edward looked behind Tanjiro, noticing that Nezuko had defeated the now-defeated criminal and was walking back to them. "Anyways, I appreciate the help." Edward said. In response, Tanjiro smiled at him and said "It's no problem. Well, we should be headed on our way." Tanjiro informed him while waving at Ed and walking off with Nezuko. "Alright, I'll take care of him!" Edward looked back at the criminal and froze dead in his tracks.
One last spike flew past Edward at the speed of a bullet. It was headed right for Tanjiro! Nezuko turned around and barely noticed. On pure instinct, she shoved her elder brother out of the way. The spike stabbed through directly in her stomach as her blood flew across the alley. "NEZUKO!!!" Tanjiro yelled out. As for Edward, he turned back at the former State Alchemist. "You bastard!" Edward insulted before completely knocking him out.
Tanjiro immediately jumped to his sister's side, and the Fullmetal Alchemist began rushing towards them. "Hang on, I'll try to-" Edward went quiet when he saw Nezuko pull out the spike and heal it instantly. "I sometimes forget that she's a demon." Tanjiro thought to himself. While the older Kamado sibling was more than relieved, Edward had a different reaction to the sight.
"H-How the hell did she just regenerate?! She doesn't seem to have a Philosopher's Stone, so there's no way she could've done that unless...!" Edward glared at Tanjiro and Nezuko, something that Tanjiro noticed. "Um, are you okay?" Tanjiro asked. "Is something the matter-"
"Nezuko, she isn't human, is she?" This sudden question caught Tanjiro off-guard, and since he didn't want to tell just anyone that Nezuko is a demon, he hesitated to respond. "No answer, eh? Well then, that's all the answer I need!" Edward touched the concrete ground, summoning pillars around the female demon, acting as a cage of sorts. "Nezuko!" Tanjiro put his hand on his sword's hilt, getting ready to cut through the pillars, but he was stopped by Edward.
"I'll be taking Nezuko with me." The State Alchemist coldly stated. "You won't be taking her anywhere!" Tanjiro retorted, this time with noticeable aggression. "Then if you won't surrender her peacefully, we'll have to do this the hard way." Edward threatened. However, Tanjiro was not going to back down. "Fine by me!"
And so, Tanjiro unsheathed his blade as Edward clapped his hands together. While neither wanted this fight to happen, it was inevitable. Tanjiro wanted to protect his only sister, and Edward wanted to put an end to the Homunculi. And they were going to do so...
...even if it costed them their lives.
"Water Breathing, First Form: Water Surface Slash!" Edward stared in astonishment as he saw a stream of water flow around Tanjiro's blade. But he quickly snapped out of it when Tanjiro dashed towards him. He summoned a pillar as Tanjiro swung his blade. To Edward's luck, Tanjiro's swing just barely overshot the pillar, causing it to slam directly into Tanjiro's stomach and send him flying outside of the alley. Watching from the cage, Nezuko desperately attempted to bust out the cage but to no avail. She began angrily mumbling something as she witnessed Edward create a spear before using a pillar to boost him into the air.
The blow stunned Tanjiro a bit, but he managed to get ahold of himself. Edward jumped off his pillar and pointed the spear downwards, trying to pierce through his opponent's leg. Eyes widened, Tanjiro quickly rolled out of the way, narrowly avoiding what could've been a decisive blow. The spear ended up getting lodged into the ground, giving Kamado enough time to get up and grab his dropped blade.
The Fullmetal Alchemist finally pulled the spear out of the ground and charged at the Demon Slayer. Edward thrusted forwards several times, but Tanjiro easily evaded all of his attacks. The Demon Slayer slashed through the spear, slicing it in half. "I got him! Now I just need to aim for his arm!" And so, Tanjiro did just that. "Water Breathing, Second Form: Water Wheel!" The Child of Brightness jumped up and slashed in a circular motion, directly hitting Edward's arm, much to Ed's surprise.
However, that plan did not go the way Tanjiro wanted it to. Instead of cutting it, Tanjiro's blade bounced off of it, and he lost his balance because of it. After landing several feet away, Tanjiro looked back at Edward with surprise. "H-How did I-"
"Not cut my arm? If it makes you feel a bit better, you did ruin my sleeve." Edward said before revealing his Automail arm. "His arm's covered in metal! Or is it entirely made of metal? Either way, I can't cut through that," Tanjiro took a deep sniff, smelling Edward. Or specifically, Tanjiro smelt Edward's left arm and found out it wasn't made of Automail. "But I can slice through that!"
"Water Breathing, Tenth Form: Constant Flux!" Tanjiro ran towards Edward who created spikes that rushed towards him. In response, Tanjiro rotated before slashing through the spikes. One thing that caught Ed's attention was that Tanjiro seemed to get faster after doing so. Multiple spikes were sent Tanjiro's way, but he cut through them easily and increased his strength and speed too. "Ah, I get it. He must be increasing his speed and power with each rotation. In that case..." Edward analyzed.
In an instant, Tanjiro was a few feet away from the alchemist. "I won't even give you the chance to hit me!" Edward stated before touching the ground again. Tanjiro was prepared for some more spikes or pillars to attack him as he swung his katana. But instead, a giant wall appeared in front of him mid-swing. Surprised as he was, Tanjiro still continued his attack with full force.
Tanjiro's sheer power cut the wall in half, and he still managed to slightly cut Edward's chest. The alchemist grunted in pain as blood leaked from the cut, but since the wall took most of the blow's power, it wasn't anything that was too bad. Tanjiro planned on changing that though with his next attack.
Tanjiro front-flipped right above Edward, following up with a "Water Breathing, Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin!" Edward was too close to him to use alchemy, so there was no other option but to fight Tanjiro hand-to-hand. Or should I say, blade-to-blade? Edward put him Automail arm above him in a defensive position. Sparks flew from the impact as Tanjiro desperately tried to cut through the metal. The Fullmetal Alchemist pushed Tanjiro off of him.
Clapping his hands once again, Edward began using his alchemy. But instead of on the ground, it was on...himself? Tanjiro was confused at first, but he soon understand when Edward turned part of his arm into a small blade. "He can use his ability on himself too?! Actually, now that I think about it, how is he even manipulating the ground? I can tell that he's not a demon, so it can't be a Blood Demon Art. Maybe it's a secret Breathing Style?"
While Tanjiro was lost in his thoughts, Edward rushed at the Demon Slayer. Edward got the jump on him with a quick horizontal slash. Kamado was distracted, and he didn't block or dodge the attack. But fortunately for him, his garb was the only thing that was injured. However, it was enough to snap him out of it. Tanjiro slashed at Edward twice, but he easily deflected them both. The Kamado flipped above Edward and sliced at him repeatedly mid-air. The Elric swung his blade multiple times to counter the strikes. Once he landed, Tanjiro activated another form.
"Water Breathing, First Form: Water Surface Slash!
With a grunt, the two swung their blades at the same time as water and electricity surrounded their blades. Tanjiro and Edward were locked in an intense power struggle. However, Edward would be the one to end it as he kicked Tanjiro's leg, causing him to trip. Before he could do anything else, the alchemist threw Tanjiro's sword into the body of water beside them. The Demon Slayer didn't notice this at first, so he looked around for it but couldn't find it. This left him vulnerable to a barrage of punches and kicks from the youngest State Alchemist. One final blow from Edward left a small bruise on his right cheek.
"Not so tough without your blade, are you?" Edward snarked. And he was mostly right. Tanjiro was pretty reliant on his Nichirin Blade. But that wouldn't be enough to make him waver, especially when it was his sister he was fighting for. "So what if I don't have my blade?! I won't yield to you, no matter what!" The Demon Slayer confidently declared.
Before Edward could even reply, Tanjiro stood up and threw a forward punch at Edward's lips. Edward shrugged off the blow, and he returned the favor with two quick jabs. The Kamado blocked the first punch, but the second was efficient in hitting him. Elric prepared to punch him again, but Tanjiro did a sweep kick at his legs, making him stumble backwards.
Tanjiro rushed forward, but was soon forced to step back as Edward slashed at him with his blade. With his katana, Tanjiro would've easily been able to deflect it, but without it, eh, not so much. The Fullmetal Alchemist soon overwhelmed him with the amount of attacks, and he slashed at the Demon Slayer again. Tanjiro put his arms up in a 'X' formation in an attempt to reduce the damage, but the slash left two cuts on both of his arms.
The Kamado brother grunted, and he got kneed in the stomach by Edward. Out of pure anger and desperation, Tanjiro grabbed Edward's head before he could react and headbutted him as hard as he could. The alchemist yelled out in pain. It felt like someone just threw a rock at him! "Damn, why is your forehead so hard?!" Edward questioned. The short alchemist was gripping the bruise left on his forehead.
Due to having a perfect chance to attack, Tanjiro shoulder-barged into Edward as hard as he could. In fact, his barge was so powerful, the two ended up getting knocked over the metal fence, and they fell right into the water!
Once Tanjiro and Edward landed in the water, their reactions were about as similar as day and night. While Tanjiro was fine with the lack of air thanks to his training on Mt. Sagiri, Edward was in a dilemma. "I-I can't breathe! I need to get out of here!" Tanjiro noticed his Nichirin Blade and jumped off of Edward, sending the alchemist deeper into the water. After making a mad swim, Tanjiro finally reached his katana and prepared to attack.
"Water Breathing, Sixth Form: Whirlpool!"
Edward noticed that Tanjiro began spinning, and a whirlpool started to form. "Shit, he's gonna attack! And I don't have anything to transmute to defend myself!" The most Elric could do is cover his face, but of course, that didn't do much against it. The shockwave was a powerful one, enough to send the alchemist flying out of the water and onto the concrete hard enough to fracture it. The Hinokami Kagura user jumped out of the water, while Edward was gasping for air. But he was forced to stop when Tanjiro did a downward slash right at him! Edward immediately blocked the blade with his own Automail blade.
However, that wasn't going to stop Tanjiro. Not again. "Hinokami Kagura!" All of a sudden, the stream of water transformed into a burst of burning hot solar flares! The katana hit Edward's arm with far more power than before, shocking Edward. With a yell of determination, Tanjiro completely sliced through half of Edward's blade. Not only did it break his blade, but it sent him flying backwards.
"Damn, how did he get so strong all of a sudden?!" Edward quietly asked himself. With a fierce glare, Tanjiro ran forward at Edward. However, the distance that was created gave the alchemist more than enough time to clap his hands together and activate his alchemy. "He's getting ready to attack again!" Tanjiro realized, having understood the cue for Edward's spike or pillar attack. And he was right, but not in the way he thought he was.
"I-I can't move!" Tanjiro said. Instead of shooting the normal pillars at him, Edward created miniature pillars around Kamado's body, effectively trapping him. "It's simple. If I can't match your strength, then I'll just have to keep my distance." A column rammed directly into the trapped Tanjiro's face, breaking him out of the prison. Another one shot after him immediately, and since he wasn't quick enough to attack it with his blade, Tanjiro was forced to try pushing against it.
But, it was apparent that the demon slayer was failing miserably at it. Tanjiro left marks on the concrete as he was pushed backwards. "Just give up already! Don't you know that girl is a Homunculus?" Edward asked. "A...Homunculus? What is a 'Homunculus'?" Whatever that was, the Child of Brightness didn't care. "I've already told you! It's my duty as her older brother to protect her with my life, so no matter what, I'm NOT GIVING UP!" Tanjiro roared.
The mark around the left side of Tanjiro's forehead began to glow. Somehow in someway, it started spreading across his forehead. Tanjiro yelled in anger as his Demon Slayer Mark now resembled a flame. Tanjiro glared at Edward with his rage-filled eyes. And then, he disappeared. Edward gasped. "W-Where'd he go?!" He wasn't forced to wait long however.
"Hinokami Kagura: Beneficent Radiance!" Tanjiro slashed directly at Edward's back, causing him to yelp and trip forward. Not only did the cut hurt, but for some reason, his back felt like it was...burning? And he was right. The combined force of the Hinokami Kagura and his now bright-red Nichirin created a burning sensation comparable to the sun's might.
Elric turned around and saw Tanjiro darting towards him with a "Sunflower Thrust!", aiming for his stomach. Tanjiro's speed was far too much for him to fully dodge, so he grabbed the blade to try and slow him down. It was futile however as Edward couldn't stop or even slow Tanjiro down at all. The demon slayer ended up stabbing through his stomach. Edward bit his lip hard, trying to bear the intense pain.
The older Kamado brother pulled the katana out, and blood rapidly rushed from the wound. Edward gripped his bleeding stomach and fell to his knees. Tanjiro looked down at him in sympathy. "I'm sorry, I didn't want it to come to this." The Child of Brightness said solemnly. The boy began to walk away to his sister.
Edward began to panic at the wound. If he didn't do something fast, he'd bleed to death! "Shit, what do I do?! Wait a minute, this is just like with Kimblee!" Edward recalled back to when a metal pole pierced his sides. And since the sword wasn't still lodged inside of him, he could pull this off on his own. All he had to do was envision himself as a Philosopher's Stone!
Electricity surrounded the Fullmetal Alchemist's hands. "Remember what the feeling was like! The feeling of using human life!" Edward told himself. He felt his life force drain away as he sacrificed some of his lifespan to patch the wound. It was a painful process that felt like it lasted forever, but it had to be done. After several seconds, he stopped and sighed in relief. That should be enough to temporarily patch the wound and continue his fight.
Except...it wasn't.
Edward's relief vanished when he felt a liquid run down the rest of his torso. He looked down at his stomach, and his eyes widened in fear. "W-What?" The terror and heartbreak in his voice was clear. "Why didn't the puncture heal?!" Perhaps it's because he didn't use enough of his life force to heal it? That must be it! And so, he sacrificed more of his life force to patch the injury. Unfortunately, it still didn't patch the injury.
"It's not working...how?" Edward pondered. As much as he wanted to keep trying, the boy knew that it would be foolish to keep wasting his life energy. The older Elric brother covered his mouth as he began to cough out blood. "Am I going to die here?" At the rate this was going, that fate seemed to be the case. Edward's vision began to blur, and he nearly collapsed to the ground. "I'm sorry...Winry."
As soon as he said that, visions of her appeared in his head. Or to be more exact, what he told her.
All while this was happening, Tanjiro continued walking to his sister. Feelings of sadness and guilt entered his thoughts. He could tell Edward was a rash but good person. "I didn't want to kill him, but I had to do so to protect Nezuko." Tanjiro rationalized. He sighed, trying to clear his-
...Wait a minute
Having smelt movement, Tajiro turned around. He saw a pillar that rammed him in the face, making him trip backwards. The Kamado brother winced in pain, feeling blood drip from his nose. Pulling out his Nichirin blade again, he sliced through it like butter. Tanjiro slightly gasped. Edward was still standing! "I made a promise to her. The next time I make her cry, it's going to be tears of joy!" Edward exclaimed.
Tanjiro could sense the resolve within Edward. Even if he had no idea who Edward was referring to, it was still admirable. "You're fighting for someone too. I can respect that. But even so, I can't let you defeat me." Tanjiro stated. The Demon Slayer dashed at the State Alchemist. It would be foolish of him to try to fight Tanjiro in this condition, so instead, he made a platform under him, lifting him up to a rooftop nearby. Caught off-guard from the unexpected action, Tanjiro ended up ran into the platform. He looked up to see Edward jump off the platform and land on the top of the building.
Knowing how formidable and determined his opponent was, Edward needed to act fast. "This won't do much, but it's a lot better than bleeding out." He figured. The Fullmetal Alchemist ripped off his coat, and he wrapped it around his stomach as tight as he could. Hopefully, that would eventually stop the bleeding. The Elric brother looked down below the rooftop. Tanjiro was stepping backwards as if he was trying to get more room to run. And as Edward thought, he was. He ran towards the wall and leaped on it before running up it. It would be a really bad idea to let Tanjiro get close to him since the injury was heavily slowing him down, so Edward clapped his hands together and swiftly placed them on the wall. This caused a column to appear under Tanjiro's position, throwing him off the wall.
The Kamado brother landed face-first, but he recovered speedily. It was just in time too as a spike was headed towards him. He flipped backwards, but a column crashed into him. The impact caused Tanjiro to cough up blood and reel back in pain. He looked up and saw at least ten spikes headed towards him! "There's too many! And they're so fast!" Tanjiro panicked. This was really bad! He had no chance at dodging or cutting through that many spikes. This was it. He was going to die. There's no way he-
“If you are feeling disheartened, that you are somehow not enough, set your heart ablaze. Dry your eyes and look ahead. You may feel like digging your heels in, but the flow of time waits for no one."
"No, I can do this!" He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened them, the world looked different, to say the least. Those spikes that were too fast for him? Now, they were as slow as a snail. In fact, it wasn't just the spikes. Everything had slowed down considerably. This was the power of the Transparent World. Edward watched from above as the spikes shot towards Tanjiro. "Heh, I've got him." Edward said with a weak voice. But within a fraction of a second, the spikes were...cut into pieces? "What?!" Edward questioned. "How did he get even faster?" Regardless, the Fullmetal Alchemist made another spike, one bigger than the last.
Tanjiro glared with determination and right before the spike hit him, he jumped as high as he could. The spike embedded itself into the ground, allowing Tanjiro to safely land on it. The Demon Slayer sprinted to Edward. "Shit, here he comes!" Edward prepared himself. The demon hunter nearly reached him. However, the alchemist had a plan. It would definitely be risky, but if he managed to pull it off, it would most certainly be worth it.
As the Kamado brother ran, he became confused. "He's not trying to attack me?" He questioned. Something was definitely off, and he was on-guard. When he reached the edge of the rooftop, he front-flipped, he yelled "Hinokami Kagura: Setting Sun Transformation!" Tanjiro flipped into the air, and he was getting ready to kill Edward. The alchemist looked to the side, catching Tanjiro's attention. "Alphonse, now!" The Elric brother suddenly called out.
"What?!" Tanjiro looked to the side as well. He must've called for help when he was on the rooftop. But who did he call-
Edward smirked. His plan worked! Wasting no time, Edward touched the ground and formed a spike. Tanjiro's eyes widened as he heard the spike being created. He looked back, and the spike was inches away from him. It was impossible to avoid it, but he did get the chance to reposition his body. The Demon Slayer yelled in pain as the spike stabbed him in his leg. "Dammit!" Edward cursed. He wasn't expecting for Tanjiro to dodge that.
The Child of Brightness fell on the ground with a thud. "That was a cheap move!" Tanjiro complained. "There's no such thing as a cheap move when you're fighting for you're life." Edward responded. Despite the pain that was surging through his leg, Tanjiro forced himself to stand up. "Ignore the pain and keep fighting! Do it for Nezuko!" Tanjiro told himself. Edward was also motivating himself. "Now that he's injured too, I can beat him!" While Tanjiro readied his blade once more, Edward fixed his own to the best of his ability. The two older brothers stared at each other for a good while, urged on by the memories of their loved ones.
Tanjiro made the first move. He swung his katana though he was noticeably slower because of his injured leg. Edward blocked it with his own blade, but he winced in pain after doing so because of his stomach. The two clashed again, but Edward was overpowering him. "I've overused the Hinokami Kagura! My body's going to collapse soon! But he's going to as well with that stomach injury!" In fact, Edward noticed this too. "He must be running out of stamina. Then all I need to do is outlast him. But can I do that without falling first?" It was clear to both that this would come down to a battle of attrition.
The Elric brother deflected Tanjiro's katana and hit him with a kick to the stomach. Tanjiro grunted and tripped back, but he returned the favor with two slashes. Edward lifted his Automail arm, using it as a shield against his opponent's attacks. This wasn't without a few chips left on his arm. Edward stepped back before rushing forward, attempting to stab Tanjiro. The Child of Brightness was going to leap backwards, but he looked behind him and realized how close he was to the edge. He looked back at Edward who was closing in on him. There was only one thing he could do.
"Hinokami Kagura: Fake Rainbow!"
Edward reached Tanjiro and thrusted his blade forward. But for some reason, Tanjiro didn't block it? Wait a second! He didn't even hit anything, as if the Demon Slayer wasn't even tangible. Tanjiro, which was actually his afterimage, suddenly vanished. Edward was shocked, realizing he was tricked. He immediately turned around, only to see Tanjiro swing at him. Again, Edward blocked the katana with his arm, but Tanjiro saw that coming from a mile away.
Even though it hurt like hell, Tanjiro kicked Ed off the building with his injured leg while he was still blocking the katana. Edward wasn't prepared for that, and he landed on his back. The alchemist screamed in pain, his stomach wound hurting ten times as bad as before. Tanjiro looked down at him and leaped off the building with his sword thrusting downwards. "Move. I need to move!" In the nick of time, Ed rolled out of the way and avoided a decisive blow.
Thanks to the fall, Tanjiro's leg was in pain. But Tanjiro didn't let that stop him. The only thing he was focused on was his opponent. Edward stood up albeit barely. He ran towards Tanjiro who did the same. Edward attacked the demon hunter with two punches, but with his sense of smell, Tanjiro easily predicted and dodged them. Tanjiro responded with a horizontal slash, but Edward blocked it with his arm. Despite this, the Kamado brother kept pushing forward, trying to overpower it.
Copying what he did earlier, Edward kicked Tanjiro's injured leg as hard as he could, making the Demon Slayer yelp in pain. This was enough for him to stop attacking his Nichirn blade. As quick as he could, Edward threw a punch with his Automail arm as hard as he could. The blow connected with Tanjiro's cheek, sending him flying back. The Child of Brightness coughed out some blood. His body was extremely close to giving up.
However, Ed's body was the same. The State Alchemist ran forwards with a fist ready. Tanjiro closed his eyes again, and when he opened them, Edward slowed down considerably. But it was off. Edward's speed was increasing back to normal and then slowing back down. It was like a light flickering on and off. The Transparent World was barely functioning due to his exhaustion. But hey, it was better than it not working at all.
Edward threw a few more jabs which Tanjiro hardly avoided. The Kamado brother swung his sword, but this time, the solar flares that surrounded his blade disappeared. The Elric brother found this particular swing odd. For some reason, it was slowing down and then speeding up. It was moving slow when Edward began to dodge, but it sped up, slightly cutting Edward's chest. He stumbled back. "Now's my chance!" Tanjiro realized.
Using the remaining energy he had left, Tanjiro thrusted at Edward. And in a last ditch effort, Edward caught Tanjiro's blade. He didn't have the strength to compete with Tanjiro, but he did have a plan. "Now that I've got his blade, I can use my alchemy on it!" Edward realized. Electricity appeared around the Nichirin blade, and it began deconstructing. Under normal circumstances, this would've happen too fast for the Demon Slayer. But with the Transparent World, he saw it happening slowly. "Shit, I gotta do something!" Tanjiro panicked. If his katana was destroyed, he'd lose! There was only thing he could think of in that moment.
With a yell mixed with pain, resolve, and anger, Tanjiro elbowed his sword, breaking it in half. The upper half was fully deconstructed, but Tanjiro's quick thinking allowed him to save the bottom half. Meanwhile, Edward watched in fear. He wasn't expecting Tanjiro would do that. A fire burned within Tanjiro's eyes, and before anybody could realize what happened, he thrusted the rest of the blade into Edward.
It took him a few seconds to realize what just happened. But Edward looked down, and he saw the blade was piercing through his chest. He started breathing rapidly in fear. The Demon Slayer pulled the blade out, and Edward instantly held his chest. Tanjiro's determination vanished, and it was replaced with sympathy and sadness. By no means did Tanjiro want it to come to this, but he didn't have a choice. "I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me." Tanjiro said as tears ran down his face. Edward fell to the ground.
Tears ran down the alchemist's face before he grabbed a picture from his pocket. "Alphonse." Edward uttered. Tanjiro looked in confusion. Edward gave him the picture. It was Edward standing by a boy in giant metal armor. "Please, protect my brother Alphonse." Edward begged. "I will." Tanjiro agreed. After all, it was the least he could do. After hearing this, the frown on Edward's face was replaced with a small smile. "Thank you..."
In just a few seconds, the Fullmetal Alchemist was no more. He stopped moving, and the life disappeared from his eyes. As for Tanjiro, he ended up collapsing to the floor. His body could no longer take the strain that was placed on his body as well as his leg wound. The tired Tanjiro turned his attention to the alleyway behind them.
"I'm coming, Nezuko."
Analysis[]
Present Mic: *sniff* No, viewers, I'm not crying. It's just that my eyes needed a bathroom break.
Eraserhead: This was a very close battle, and should you replay it 99 times over, Edward would take about 35 victories. Unfortunately for Edward, Tanjiro had just what he needed to cut through Edward's fullmetal heart more times than not.
Present Mic: In terms of physical statistics, both were actually dead even. While it would seem that Edward is much stronger and tougher with his 445 kiloton feat, do keep in mind that he was nearing death after that explosion, so he obviously doesn't fully scale to it. So we'll divide the explosion's power by 10 to get an estimate for his actual durability which is 44 kilotons of TNT.
Eraserhead: That's still over 10x stronger than Gyutaro's feat. However, that was when Tanjiro was way weaker. Since he's fought the much stronger Muzan, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume Tanjiro and Edward were comparable in power and durability.
Present Mic: For speed, Muzan fought and defeated Zenitsu who can reach speeds of over Mach 1830 which is about as fast as Hohenheim's Mach 1920 feat albeit a tiny bit slower.
Eraserhead: Edward's alchemy gave him far more versatile and unpredictable options that Tanjiro has ever seen in a one-on-one fight, and since Tanjiro really doesn't have many ranged options, Edward could just kick back and overwhelm Tanjiro with pillars or spikes. And should he get his hands on Tanjiro's katana, he could deconstruct it, leaving Tanjiro nearly helpless. But this where the tips begin to scale.
Present Mic: Sure, Tanjiro was outranged, but he definitely outmaches Edward in H2H. He's been training with way more experienced teachers, and he's battled a larger variety of demons.
Eraserhead: This is especially made worse with his ability to predict others' movements with his sense of smell. Tanjiro's frankly overpowered sense of smell would also allow him to prevent Edward from trying to deconstruct his blade.
Present Mic: And while Edward's pillars and spikes would be overwhelming at first, he would have plenty of ways to get around this. He could slow down his perception of the world with Transparent World, making it easier to avoid them or he could trick Edward with his Fake Rainbow which would let him distract him.
Eraserhead: And since Edward needs to clap his hands every time he wants to use alchemy, Tanjiro would eventually pick up on this and adapt to his attacks.
Present Mic: Edward's limited healing wouldn't even save him since Tanjiro's Hinokami Kagura and red Nichirin blade could affect healing on the cellular level for hundreds of years.
Eraserhead: And that brings up to endurance and stamina. While Edward isn't unused to taking blows, Tanjiro has taken a lot more punishment and still continued to fight.
Present Mic: Tanjiro has fought for an entire day, ran down a mountain while avoiding traps from early in the morning to sunset, and even fought with broken ribs and a leg, so he could reasonably outlast Edward to go for the fatal blow.
Eraserhead: Edward was a tough opponent, but Tanjiro's abilities, skill, and determination gave him the win.
Present Mic: Even though he did his best, Elric was ed-ing towards defeat and alche-met his demise!
Eraserhead: The winner is Tanjiro Kamado.
Tell me if you enjoyed the fight/agreed or not.
Trivia[]
- The connections between Tanjiro and Edward are:
- They're teenaged shonen protagonists who join an organization with their younger sibling in an attempt to find a cure and fix their bodies.
- One of their closest teamates is a stoic, black-haired superior who are the reasons for them joining the organization in the first place (Giyuu and Roy).
- One of their parents whose name starts with a 'T' unfortunately died due to a sickness (Tanjuro Kamado and Trisha Elric) which would impact their lives forever (Tanjiro was forced to be the man of the house and Trisha's death was the motivation behind Edward doing human transmutation).
- The track's name would be Fullmetal Slayer. The title references Tanjiro and Edward's statuses as a Demon Slayer and the Fullmetal Alchemist.
- The track art would be Tanjiro's Nichirin Blade being held by Edward's Automail arm. The blade itself would be surrounded with fire and electricity, referencing Tanjiro's Sun Breathing and Edward's alchemy.
- The fight would be animated in sprites.
Scrapped Scenes[]
These are scenes that were planned to be in the battle, but ultimately didn't make it in for various reasons.
- 1. Alphonse was supposed to appear in the intro and fight Nezuko while Tanjiro fought Edward.
- The reason this was scrapped is because it would've resembled Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado vs Edward and Alphonse Elric, and I didn't want to have either intrude on Tanjiro and Edward's fight.
- 2. Tanjiro and Edward were going to stab each other at the same time and then use their techniques to slow the bleeding.
- The reason this was scrapped is because it wouldn't have made sense for the scenario. If it happened when Tanjiro used Water Breathing, it likely would've happened near the beginning of the fight which would be far too early. And since Sun Breathing negates healing, it would have made zero sense for Edward to patch himself up.
- 3. The original death had Tanjiro using the Thirteen Form on Edward who would block most of them but get stabbed by the last few attacks.
- The reason this was scrapped is because the death felt out of place for the context given that Edward couldn't fight H2H very well due to the stab wound.

Vince: It's alchemy vs breathing style as these two brothers go against each other in a battle to the end. Which art will prevail?
Frank: AKA Who would win...a Death Battle!
