History[]

As an infant cub, Tai Lung was left at the doorstep of the Jade Palace. He was found and adopted by Master Shifu in the hopes he would one day become the Dragon Warrior, a legendary kung fu prodigy. In his youth, Tai Lung demonstrated a remarkable talent for martial arts, which further convinced Shifu that Tai Lung was to become the Dragon Warrior once his training was complete.

After many years of training, Tai Lung's skill had turned him into Shifu's greatest student, he had become a proud warrior, having convinced himself that it was his destiny to become the Dragon Warrior and learn the secrets of the Dragon Scroll. However, his training also made him overconfident and crave greater power, which Tai Lung saw as the Dragon Scroll. Recognizing Shifu's student had darkness in his heart, Master Oogway refused to grant Tai Lung the title, much to both his and Shifu's disappointment.

He was confused further when Shifu did nothing to argue against Oogway's decision. He was dismayed at such a personal level he went on a rampage through the Valley of Peace, fuelled by nothing except his fury. Afterwards, Tai Lung returned to the Jade Palace where he planned to steal the Dragon Scroll by choice. Begrudingly, Shifu allowed Oogway to defeat Tai Lung and apprehend him. For the crimes he had committed in the valley, Tai Lung was imprisoned within Chorh-Gom Prison in Mongolia. He remained there for twenty years.

When a messenger goose named Zeng arrived to inform the prison about a vision of Shifu's that Tai Lung would escape, the warning was dismissed, only for Tai Lung to use one of Zeng's feathers to free himself from his restraints. Despite the prison's attempts to contain him, Tai Lung's prison break was successful, and he set his sights on returning to the Jade Palace, proclaiming himself as the true Dragon Warrior.

Not long before his return, Tai Lung was confronted by the Furious Five, a group of Shifu's students he had trained whilst he was in prison. Here he is told the rumours of a Dragon Warrior that "fell from the sky on a ball of fire" were in fact true, which only further excited Tai Lung, as he believed he had finally found a worthy opponent. Defeating the Furious Five singlehandedly, Tai Lung continued on his path to the Jade Palace.

Upon his return to the Jade Palace, there was only him and Shifu, the old master and student battled one another, with Tai Lung emerging victorious. In his rage, he demanded Shifu acknowledge all the hard work and effort he had put into his training and apologize for not acting when he needed him most. Shifu gave an emotional apology, which almost broke Tai Lung's anger and rage, but it quickly returned as Tai Lung almost killed his former master.

He was stopped by the arrival of a Panda named Po, who claimed he was the Dragon Warrior whilst in possession of the Dragon Scroll. Enraged, Tai Lung battled Po in the Valley of Peace, as the two fought each other whilst also vying for ownership of the Dragon Scroll. Despite Tai Lung's ferocity, Po's ingenuity allowed him to gain the upper hand against him. However, Tai Lung would successfully gain the Dragon Scroll and read the message within. To his confusion, it was a clear reflection of himself.

Utterly confused, Tai Lung desperately attempted to defeat Po, but his attempts were unsuccessful when Po utilized a technique unlike any other, the Wuxi Finger Hold. At first, he thought Po was bluffing, but he was horrified to realize that Po learned the technique on his own. As Po used the technique, Tai Lung was defeated once and for all, sending him to the Spirit Realm.

Sometime later, Kai, a Spirit Warrior, returned to the mortal realm, he carried with him jade amulets that contained the stolen chi of Kung Fu masters that resided in the Spirit Realm, including Tai Lung.
