History[]
Walter Newell is a brilliant oceanographer and engineer. He was supervising the construction of an underwater domed city when it was attacked by the supervillain Plunderer. While Namor the Sub-Mariner & Lady Dorma came to its defense, the city was destroyed. Walter would encounter Namor again when he helped the Atlantean king stop another supervillain, Tiger Shark, from unleashing a virus onto the world. It was after these events that Walter created his signature Stingray Armor. Though its original intention and purpose was for deep sea exploration, time and time again Walter would find himself doing heroic deeds, sometimes by Namor's side, others by becoming a member of the Avengers. Walter would also go on to marry Tiger Shark's still human sister, Diane Arliss.
