- The connections between Squidward and Daffy are that both are selfish, lazy, short-tempered, and occasionally villainous characters who contrast the cheery nature of the protagonist (SpongeBob and Bugs) and have more self-serving goals, but they tend to be the butt of the joke due to their bad luck, as whatever can go wrong for them WILL go wrong. They want to have the spotlight over the hero only to fail each time, being the second fiddle to them and getting dragged along on their adventures. Despite these, they have occasionally teamed up with the hero (even if some of these were done reluctantly) and shown a soft spot for them.
- For contrasts, Squidward serves as the straight-man to SpongeBob's antics, while Daffy causes chaos and mayhem everywhere he goes (Bugs, who's usually more looney as him, even served as the straight-man to Daffy's antics in The Looney Tunes Show).
