Description[]
In life, they were violent. In death, they were useful. As the undead, they were killing machines. Serving their leaders, they left a trail of bodies in their wake. When the truth was unveiled, they fought against the ones that brought them back. Whether they reap or reave does not matter. Only one thing will matter in the end, though, and that is this question. Who will be buried, and who will be victorious?
Introduction[]
Wiz: In life, fewer things scare people more than the concept of death.
Boomstick: And these two one man armies are no strangers to it!
Wiz: Specter Knight, right hand minion of the Enchantress.
Boomstick: And Raziel, the Soul Reaver! He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick!
Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Specter Knight[]
Wiz: Not too long ago, groups of adventurers would go on quests throughout the kingdom of Pridemoor, finding treasures and fighting hordes of monsters.
Boomstick: Most of these adventurers were in pairs, such as Plague Knight and Mona and the more well-regarded Shovel Knight and Shield Knight. However, there was another.
Wiz: Two best friends, Donovan and Luan, sought to plunder the Tower of Fate of the amulet that rested there and use it to protect Luan’s son, Reize. Taking days to reach the top, the two friends finally made it to the amulet, only to bump into Shield Knight, who tried to stop them from taking it.
Boomstick: After a brief brawl, Donovan tried to take the amulet, but Luan listened to Shield Knight’s warnings and tried to stop his pal. Let’s just say it didn’t end well.
Wiz: After Donovan chose the amulet over friendship, the tower started collapsing, with Donovan and the dead Luan being buried under the rubble and Donovan blaming Shield Knight for his misfortune.
Boomstick: Then the Enchantress appears and goes “Hey there, wanna be my henchman?” and Donovan agreed.
Wiz: With Donovan now working for the Enchantress, he was tasked with rounding up numerous knights from across the land. But halfway through his mission, Reize got involved, being corrupted by the Enchantress when he broke into the Tower of Fate.
Boomstick: When almost every knight had assembled at the tower, Donovan discovered that the Enchantress was Shield Knight, and he went on the warpath!
Wiz: After their battle, the Enchantress sent Reize to deal with Donovan, only for Reize to lose. To rescue his friend’s son from an eternity of being the Enchantress’ minion, Donovan offers his eternal loyalty in exchange for Reize’s. This was what ultimately turned Donovan into the Specter Knight everyone first met in Shovel of Hope.
Boomstick: Specter Knight has everything a Grim Reaper-like being should and then some, which in this case is a humongous scythe that he can use like a boomerang and even use like a skateboard! Of course, if that was all he could do, this Death Battle probably wouldn’t be happening. Specter Knight has Caltrops, small spikes that he used while he was still living to attack enemies with. He also has the Hover Plume, which lets him levitate, though he can fly on his without using it, and the Will Skull, an item that can heal him.
Wiz: That’s it? You know he has more than that, Boomstick.
Boomstick: I just need time to remember them all. He’s got the Dread Claw, perfect for close-quarters combat, the Chronos Coin, a coin that lets him slow down time, the Bounding Soul, a weapon that bounces off of walls, the Skeletal Sentry, a skeleton that attacks for Specter Knight, the Spider Scythe, a weapon that can climb over stuff, and the Judgment Rush, a move that makes Specter Knight rush the enemy. He also has the Barrier Lantern, a shield that blocks ranged attacks and the Shadow Mirror, which creates an image of himself that attacks foes in front of him. In other words, Specter Knight is a one man army!
Wiz: Specter Knight can also create lightning strikes that causes the area around him to go dark, making it harder for enemies to see his movements. He can also teleport, albeit only a foot or two away.
Boomstick: When you see the shadowy image of a phantom with a scythe, then Specter Knight has come to bury you!
Specter Knight: It was Shield Knight all along! She took everything! The Amulet! Luan! She stole my very life away! This ends tonight!
Raziel[]
Wiz: In the world of Nosgoth, violence and death lurk around every corner and absolutely nobody is safe from it. Of those most familiar with this way of life, none were more acquainted with it then the humans and the vampires.
Boomstick: The battles between humans and vampires raged on, claiming casualties for both sides. One group of humans, however, made it their personal mission to beat the stuffing out of every single vampire they came across.
Wiz: They were the Sarafan Order, and one of their greatest warriors was a man named Raziel. Together with his fellow warriors Rahab, Turel, Melchiah, Dumah, Zephon and their commander, Malek, they would go on a vampire-slaying spree that went on for many years.
Boomstick: Then a mysterious entity destroyed everyone and Malek got turned into a sentient suit of armor. Raziel and his brothers-in-arms ended up buried in the same tomb together until, centuries later, some upstart vampire named Kain arrived. Who is Kain, you ask? By that point, he’s just the ruler of Nosgoth!!
Wiz: Perhaps I should elaborate. After he had taken over Nosgoth, Kain later found the tomb of Raziel and his companions and revived them as vampires, with Raziel acting as his right hand henchman. Centuries had passed, and Kain and his followers began becoming more physically altered due to their vampiric state. However, there was a problem with this.
Boomstick: Let’s just say that Raziel began changing too fast for his own good and Kain kinda ordered his execution for it. In other words, don’t upstage Kain. It gets you killed.
Wiz: Of course, that was what Raziel thought he was killed for doing, but Kain had other reasons for doing this that we will elaborate on later. In any case, Raziel was thrown into an abyss where his body remained dormant for centuries. Then, a being called the Elder God brought him back as a wraith who sought vengeance against his brothers and Kain for having him killed.
Boomstick: Since he's back from the dead, all he needed was a Weapon and a list of spells to complete his revenge.
Wiz: His powers are enhanced senses, telekinesis, Dimensional Travel, Invisibility resistance to fate manipanision and element manipulation. He can keep up with Kain at supersonic speed, able to push giant blocks and stone pillars with little effort and wall-crawling beyond reach He can devour Souls to restore his health. if the material body of Raziel is destroyed he will go back to the Spectral Realm where there's no conventional way to kill him. His magical powers are called Glyphs, and each has different elements and effects. For melee, he weld The Wraith Blade.
Force Glyph: Telekinetic Force Blast
Stone Glyph: Earthquake which briefly turns enemies to stone
Sound Glyph: Powerful sound wave
Water Glyph: Showers enemies with Water
Fire Glyph: Burns enemies with Fire
Sunlight Glyph: Burns enemies with Sunlight, effective against dark-based enemies
Boomstick: ah yes. This thing of beautiful not look good but it has some different abilities called Elemmental Reavers that increase his power. Powers like Light Reaver, a blade very effective against dark-based demons, illuminate dark areas and stun enemies, Fire Reaver that bring pyrokinetic attacks, Air Reaver: A white blade, used to spin and disorientate targets and creates small whirlwinds and many more that he have. But his most powerful Reaver is Spirit Reaver, a white-blue blade; the strongest form of the Wraith Blade; it can kill all type of enemies and break walls with a single blow; causes serious damage to bosses with the spirit burst. A perfect weapon for an unstoppable badass.
Spectral Reaver: A green blade used on the spectral plane, causes greater damages in combo and has the spiritual explosion
Darkness Reaver: A purple blade, can creates mini-shades that stuck the enemy, make the user invisible, can blind sentinels eyes
Light Reaver: A yellow blade, effective against dark-based demons, illuminate dark areas and stun enemies
Fire Reaver: A Orange blade, enhanced the pyrokinetic attacks
Air Reaver: A white blade, used to spin and disorientate targets and creates small whirlwinds
Water Reaver: A light-blue blade, allow the user to use cryokinetic attacks
Earth Reaver: A light green blade, make the user heavier, can create small earthquakes
Wiz: Well there is one weakness. In the Material Realm, he needs to consume souls to sustain his material body, otherwise, he'll return to the Spectral Realm. Not just his body but also possibly his magic. While He was more powerful in the Spectral Realm and can regen gradually, but he's unable to use the Elemental Reavers leaving him slightly weaker.
Boomstick: He also wielded the Soul Reaver, Kain’s signature weapon. Remember when we said that Kain had other reasons for killing Raziel? Well, the Soul Reaver ties into that.
Wiz: As it turns out, Raziel was supposed to help Kain change his destiny and, due to shenanigans involving time travel, he found out that he was, in fact, the Soul Reaver itself. In the end, he freed Kain from fate and became just what Kain needed to take the Elder God down.
Boomstick: Of course, because Crystal Dynamics won’t make a sequel, we’ll never get to see the ending! Oh well. In spite of that, Raziel is one wraith you don’t want haunting you!
Moebius: Raziel, I beg you to stay your hand! This was none of my doing! I thought only to aid you in your righteous quest!
Raziel: Are you trembling, Moebius? Has your confidence abandoned you? You seem to have made a fatal error in leaving your staff behind. Is that where all your courage comes from?
Death Battle[]
Wiz: Okay, the fighters are ready and so are we!
Boomstick: It’s time for a Death Battle!
(The scene is just outside of the Tower of Fate)
Raziel (Narration): (Raziel reaches the area close to the Tower of Fate, passing by a grave reading “Lupin III” as he began walking down a stone bridge leading to the Tower of Fate) In my pursuit of Kain, I stumbled upon a land that I had no recollection of ever being in Nosgoth, though given its dreadful condition, it would certainly fit right in. One could only wonder if the rest of this unfamiliar land was just as dead and unwelcoming as this place was. The sky glowed an uninviting green, as if the air itself were pierced by a lance and, like some abandoned corpse decaying on the side of some rarely used road, began rotting away around the tall, foreboding fortress that stood in the distance. As I walked closer to it, I had this sense that something unusual and important was hidden within the fortress’ walls, something both highly potent and especially putrid. If it could help me reach Kain, then my infiltration of it would be exactly what I was looking for. I just needed to learn what it was first.
Raziel: What manner of structure is this?
Elder God: This is the grim abode of the Enchantress, the Tower of Fate. Many an adventurer risked life and limb to sneak into its halls. Most did not live to tell about it. This wicked tower is not without its defenses, Raziel, so make haste. There are many adversaries lurking about. (Raziel approaches the Tower of Fate and notices a strange presence approaching him)
Raziel: It would seem I have been spotted. (The sky darkens as lightning strikes, revealing the presence of a hooded entity)
Hooded Entity: This is the Tower of Fate! You are not welcome here, creature! Turn back or meet your end!
Elder God: Raziel, this is one of the numerous warriors the Enchantress commands. They are called “The Order of No Quarter” and each one is a very different sort of dangerous. The rotting husk you see before you is called “Specter Knight”, and he is much like yourself.
Specter Knight: I said begone! The Enchantress has ordered me to put down any who would infiltrate the tower and not come back until I do!
Raziel: You speak as if you are capable of killing me, reaper. I assure you that I am not so feeble. You gave me your warning, and now I’ll give you mine. Leave me be, or you will be made into a feast like many others before you.
Specter Knight: A feast? Sorry, but the only things eating anything tonight...WILL BE THE WORMS!!
Raziel: That wasn’t quite what I had in mind, cadaver.
Elder God: Now would be an opportune time for an assessment. Let me see how well you both duel. Prepare yourselves.
FIGHT!!!
Raziel: (Specter Knight tries swinging his scythe at Raziel but misses) You strike swiftly but lack finesse. I find that quite convenient, all things considered.
Specter Knight: Lacking finesse? I only just started fighting! (Specter Knight uses Judgment Rush to rush Raziel, slashing at him but missing. Raziel unleashes the Wraith Blade and blocks the next swing) What?! What is this?
Raziel: A far better weapon than a mere farming tool, reaper. It has slain many a foe, as you will soon discover for yourself! (Raziel swings the Wraith Blade and slashes Specter Knight)
Specter Knight: AAAAAAAAHH!! You just got lucky! (Specter Knight shrugs it off and uses Shadow Mirror) Let’s see you get past this!
Raziel: Impressive. Quite impressive. (Specter Knight attacks Raziel, slashing at him and keeping him from getting too close) Fascinating. He thinks keeping me at a distance will protect him. He will soon be greatly disappointed. (Raziel fires energy blasts from the Wraith Blade, shooting Specter Knight)
Specter Knight: Hmph. So, you like using projectiles, do you? If that’s the case, then let me show you how it’s done, because I have those in spades! (Specter Knight throws his caltrops, but Raziel continues to fire projectiles at Specter Knight, who uses Barrier Lantern to deflect the projectiles) Come here! (Specter Knight charges at Raziel with the Barrier Lantern, but Raziel dodges the attack)
Raziel: A shield that can harm those who touch it? I’m beginning to have respect for you, Specter Knight, if only by an infinitesimal amount.
Specter Knight: Respect is earned, creature, but the only thing you’ve earned is my fury! (Raziel begins climbing up a wall) Where do you think you’re going?! (Specter Knight tosses some Spider Scythes toward Raziel, who is hit by the attacks, and as Raziel is falling down, Specter Knight uses the Dread Talon to slash Raziel just as he is about to land)
Raziel: AAAAAAAHH!! (Raziel falls to the ground but eventually gets back up again, albeit with a certain amount of effort)
Specter Knight: And now to finish you off! These Bounding Souls will see to your destruction! (Raziel immediately became attentive anticipating the incoming projectiles. Specter Knight tosses multiple Bounding Souls, only for Raziel to uncover his upper jaw and absorb the souls into him, healing him of all of his wounds)
Raziel: Thank you. (Specter Knight facepalms. However, he also gets an idea. Specter Knight takes out a Will Skull and heals himself with it. He does this again, making himself more confident and Raziel more uncertain) Time for a tactical retreat. (Raziel glides down to the bottom of the tower with Specter Knight flying behind him)
Specter Knight: This should be amusing. (Specter Knight meticulously and stealthily follows Raziel)
Raziel: There must be something in the environment I could use to destroy Specter Knight, like fire or grinders. Something that would pulverize Specter Knight in one blow. But what? (Raziel begins looking around for something to use but can find nothing. Raziel soon realizes that picking a fight with Specter Knight was a big mistake, slowly becoming shocked by the grim realization. The torchlight briefly revealed Specter Knight’s location as Specter Knight began toying with Raziel, flying around the latter appearing and hiding behind things as he went)
Specter Knight: Do you see yet?
Raziel: Face me! You cannot conceal yourself forever, reaper!
Specter Knight: Oh, you’re quite right about that. But all I need to do is conceal myself for one final moment. (Specter Knight causes lightning to strike, darkening the battlefield and obscuring Raziel’s vision, making him frantically look around for his opponent. Specter Knight flips the Chronos Coin, slowing down time) It’s time. (Specter Knight throws his scythe and slices an unaware Raziel in half, ending the fight)
Raziel: AAAAAAHHHH!!!! (Raziel’s body disappears, leaving Specter Knight the victor. Specter Knight looks for his Chronos Coin once light returned to the Tower of Fate and noticed the coin landed on its edge)
Specter Knight (Narration): Today, a strange event unfolded. I defeated a creature not unlike myself, but it was what happened afterward that amazed me. My Chronos Coin fell on its edge. Rarely do coins do this. Thinking it over, it makes me wonder if there is a chance I can be truly normal again. I can only hope that my coin lands on its edge once more.
Results[]
K.O.!!!
Wiz: Well, that was an interesting outcome.
Boomstick: Yeah! You could say the surprise sneaked up on us!
Wiz: While Raziel was quite the impressive warrior, Specter Knight was superior to him in nearly every way possible.
Boomstick: You bet he was.
Wiz: To elaborate, Raziel’s speed clocks in at 308.7 m/s and Specter Knight’s is at a whopping 243,152 m/s. As for strength, Raziel’s strength is at .066 tons of TNT and Specter Knight’s is at 15.08 kilotons of TNT. Also, Raziel’s arsenal was much weaker than Specter Knight’s.
Boomstick: In other words, Specter Knight curbstomped him into oblivion. To put it another way, Specter Knight was in no “grave” danger at all.
Wiz: The winner is Specter Knight.

Trivia[]
- The music track for the match is called “Soul of Torment” in reference to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Specter of Torment.
- Credit for helping with the analysis goes to CureOverdrive and The Eldritch Snowcone.
- Originally, Specter Knight’s dialogue was going to emulate the style from Shovel Knight, complete with shaking words and colors for different characters’ names. However, due to technical limitations, this was scrapped.
- Credit for adding artwork goes to CureOverdrive.
- Credit for helping with the result statistics goes to The Eldritch Snowcone.
- The connection is that both are undead warriors who were revived by people who would eventually go on to become their enemies (Kain and the Elder God for Raziel and the Enchantress for Specter Knight) only to end up working with them for one reason or another anyway (Kain for Raziel and the Enchantress for Specter Knight).
