“ | Fiends of the Devil, spawned from Hell to slay the Gods. Which of these demonic destroyers will reap a multiverse scale reward tonight? | „ |
Interlude[]
(* Wiz & Boomstick - Brandon Yates*)
Wiz: Demons- monsters of the night and unholy abominations on mankind. For millennia, humanity has feared anything they deem demonic or monstrous by nature.
Boomstick: Though to be fair, if it was these two they were shitting their pants over, I wouldn't have much room to blame them.
Wiz: Al Simmons, the demonic anti-hero otherwise known as Spawn.
Boomstick: And Naoki Kashima, the king of chaos also known as the Demi-Fiend. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!
Wiz: And it's our job to analyse their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Spawn Raises Hell in Death Battle[]
(*Main Title Theme - Spawn (1997)*)
Wiz: Some things are best left... unknown. Curiosity is a key part of our cognition that leads us to seek discovery but there are just as many things we may regret ever knowing and suffer for it.
Boomstick: Yeah, and we ain't just talking about the "looking at your friend's Internet history to see what ungodly things they've been looking at as of late" type of regretting being curious either.
Wiz: Hey that was one ti- oh forget it. Such was the case for Albert Simmons- a top officer of the US Marine Corps and CIA. Strong, smart and incredibly deadly, he rose through the ranks with lightning speed to become one of the US' most valued assets.
Boomstick: Too bad he came down with a bad case of "being too much of a goody two shoes"-
Wiz: Or in more accurate terms when Al is anything but deserving of a cutesy title, his morality got the better of him and he began to question his superior's motives and uncover some dark secrets lurking beneath.
Boomstick: So while on a mission in Botswana, his director sat him down and decided to talk things through with him- explaining the circumstances that lead to these dark secrets and the harsh reality of the world that he wish he didn't have to resort to- nah I'm just kidding, he hired Al's friend to set the bastard on fire.
Wiz: On that day, Al Simmons was pronounced dead, and due to his immense body count during his time as a CIA assassin, he ended up in the worst place the human mind could imagine.
Boomstick: Michigan!
Wiz: What- no, Hell!
Boomstick: Yeah, Hell Michigan. Geez, I thought you knew your geography Wiz.
Wiz: Not that Hell you-whatever. Even in the fiery pits of the eternal inferno, Al's life as an army dog wouldn't quite be over. His morality got the better of him once more and he made a deal with the demon that awaited him in Hell, Malebolgia.
Boomstick: If Spawn lead Malebolgia's demon army, he'd be brought back to the world of the living and be allowed to see his wife one more time.
Wiz: And so he was merged with a parasitic black suit and returned to Earth... albeit with severe memory loss and a grossly burned body.
Boomstick: And uh, Mally might've neglected to also mention it had been five years since Al kicked the bucket and his wife remarried his best friend Terry. I know he's a demon from the pits of the worst place imaginable but... dick move Malebolgia... dick move.
Wiz: Understandably a bit pissed after the wild goose chase to reclaim his memories only to learn his wife had moved on from his passing, Al eventually came upon a fellow Hellspawn, who taught him that should he use up the Necroplasm that powered him, he would return back to Hell and meet with Malebolgia once more.
Boomstick: Understandably not wanting to be a lap dog for the guy that cucked him out of seeing his wife once more, Al decided to find a new purpose in... uh, life? Afterlife? I don't know what you'd call it in his case.
Wiz: He'd wipe out crime, clear the streets of bad guys and just for good measure, beat the snot out of any demon out for his blood, all under his new name- Spawn.
Boomstick: God that name just oozes badassery. Almost as much as Spawn's insane combat prowess. He has superhuman speed, superhuman strength and a superhuman load of fucking guns on hand.
Wiz: Spawn is many things- insanely strong, frighteningly skilled in assassination and incredibly experienced from his days in the Marines and CIA- but picky about witch gun to use he sure as shit is not. Pistols, machine guns, gattling guns, rifles, you name it, he'll probably be capable of blowing your brains out with it.
Boomstick: Oooohohoho I am already in love.
Wiz: With Spawn or.. or the gu-
Boomstick: But while he may likes his firearms, we all know that classic black suit is Spawn's most iconic tool of choice.
Wiz: This is Leetha of the 7th House of K- or K7-Leetha for short. This suit is connected to Spawn's nervous system, allowing him to freely manipulate it as naturally as his own limbs, including a myriad of chains within the suit Spawn can control telepathically to strike opponents from far away.
Boomstick: It can also let Spawn fly with his giant ass cape, create other weapons such as claws and spikes or shapeshift and camouflage Spawn entirely for a surprise attack.
Wiz: An obvious advantage for an assassin to have, even moreso thanks to a pseudo-Spider Sense the suit has that allows Spawn to react to danger before the danger even has a chance to show up.
Boomstick: Man he must be a bitch to throw surprise parties for when the suit just spoils them all on him.
Pop-up: K7-Leetha is capable of acting even while Spawn is unconscious, so even if you can successfully knock him out, killing him isn't made any easier when Leetha can still attack you.
Wiz: The only problem with the suit is that it runs off of Spawn's supply of Necroplasm- which he only has so much to spend.
Boomstick: Spawn's Necroplasm is some pretty handy stuff- allowing him to teleport, create explosives, fire it like an energy blast or just make whatever the shit he needs out of thin air. Lost your car keys? Yeah sure, Spawn can make that out of the blue.
Wiz: It's also the source of one of Spawn's most useful tools: his insane healing factor, which has repaired broken bones, missing organs including his heart and even entire holes being torn in his body. The only limit to this regeneration is that it fails in the face of Spawn's head being destroyed or beheaded, which is the only way to kill him permanently.
Boomstick: Or a weapon forged in Heaven. Yeah he uh... doesn't quite like those either. He can even use it to manipulate or transmute matter, even in living things, like uh... when he turned a racist black and waited for his fellow racists to arrive?
*Music stops*
Wiz: ...
Boomstick: ...The 90s sure were a strange time, weren't they?
Wiz: Very. Now I'm gonna try and forget I saw that.
Boomstick: Yeah uh, I agree.
(*Rebellion - Blazblue: Central Fiction*)
Wiz: If it wasn't obvious by now, while his methods weren't... usually very clean, Spawn's main targets were almost always the worst scum imaginable, who he would subject to the harshest punishments one could imagine- child abusers, pedophiles, racists, if Spawn caught wind of you, there's no saving your soul.
Boomstick: But unfortunately, it's hard to really do all that when you're stuck running on such limited battery. Hell, Spawn would often forego using any kind of Necroplasm to reserve his supplies, cuz if that bitch ever hits zero it's back to Hell for him to meet with Malebolgia again.
Wiz: Not helped by Malebolgia sending abominations such as the Violator after him in an attempt to waste his Necroplasm and breed him into soldier for Hell's army, or Heaven having their fair share of beef with him too with foes such as Angela or the Redeemer.
Boomstick: Spawn ended up being recognised not just by local evils and even the mafia that would often blame him for actions Violator was responsible for, but also Heaven and Hell. With all those enemies, you bet he got himself some extra tools to take them all on.
Wiz: Spawn isn't just good at pumping your guts full of lead, but also full of whatever magic he has on hand. He can create powerful geysers of fire, drown you in tidal waves of water, bend nature itself around him to control plants, the Earth and the weather, mess with your memory, freeze time entirely, or even manipulate your soul.
Boomstick: Whether that be yoinking their soul right out, resurrecting someone from the dead or even transferring all the sin and suffering of others into someone else. Fun for the whole family!
Wiz: And if that wasn't enough, Spawn even holds the souls of around 6,000 people within his body, which not only came in handy with keeping Malebolgia from controlling him but lets him release the souls at once in the form of a powerful soul legion to overwhelm his enemies.
Boomstick: Some of the all time classics include Kumiko the little girl with Necroplasm pistols, Kitamura the old swordsman grandfather of Kumiko, a pair of Indian doctors that talked this chick named Kali out of murdering Spawn- I could go on but I don't think we have the time to look at 6,000 of the fuckers.
Pop-up: The soul legion is comprised of the souls of those who died within the same hour that Al did that were then placed inside his body.
Wiz: This would interestingly be the result of some meddling from the very creator of the universe itself- the Mother of Existence, in order to allow Spawn to roam free without fear of Malebolgia controlling him.
Boomstick: Though she also did it in no small part due to a certain squabble two of her children were having that wasn't exactly doing the universe much good.
Wiz: The Mother of Existence sent her children God and Satan to govern Earth, always at each other's throats and eventually, beginning an all out war between Heaven and Hell.
Pop-up: God and Satan are two of an infinite number of the Mother of Existence's children, with them in particularly being regarded by her as her "biggest disappointments".
Boomstick: They would also be the ones responsible for creating humanity in the first place- God creating them to serve his will while Satan gifted them the will to defy God and become their own thing- sorta like the arts and crafts project your mother forced you to let your 4 year old brother with crayons up his nose help make.
Wiz: Normally the Mother of Existence wouldn't dwell in the petty squabbles of her kin. However, she saw a beauty to the creation of mankind, their endless freedom, love, possibilities, all enough to make her seek a way to protect them from her quarreling children.
Boomstick: And that was where Spawn came in. With how freaking powerful Spawn became, she deemed him the best candidate to end their war and under many different guises, would test and observe Spawn in order to breed him into the perfect soldier to save humanity... oh and also maybe do battle in this Armageddon place against Heaven and Hell while he's at it.
Wiz: Just as well Spawn was more than powerful enough to do it with all the victories under his belt, including Angela herself. Pretty impressive considering a weaker angel than Angela could create a supernova. Assuming the star in question had the same mass as our own sun, that would require an energy equivalent to 7.5 Foe.
Boomstick: And Spawn could kick the shit out of beings as powerful as that. But that wasn't as powerful as Spawn would get in his journey.
Wiz: As Spawn made his way through God and Satan's armies and conquered Heaven and Hell, he would gain even more powerful states of being- such as his Hell King and Divine forms.
Boomstick: He even got this nifty sword called the Sword of the Spirit that can devour the sword of anyone it cuts down. Metal shit.
Wiz: Though none would come close to the power he got to taste upon merging with the Mother of Existence herself to become the one and only God Spawn.
(*The God-Slaying Sword - Xenoblade Chronicles*)
Boomstick: If you thought Spawn was strong before, then hoooooo boi, you ain't seen nothing yet. These forms give him control over Heaven and Hell themselves, let him create pocket dimensions, bend and control space and reality, erase people from existence, corrupt his enemies, command the armies of Hell, and gain complete cosmic awareness because why the fuck not?
Pop-up: Many of Spawn's more powerful forms forego any of his usual weaknesses such as his head being destroyed or attacking him with weapons forged in Heaven.
Wiz: God Spawn especially even claims to be one with creation, including everything that was and ever will be, which includes an infinite number of timelines and even the Hell that Spawn maintains the existence of, which is infinite in size. The energy output this would require is downright ludicrous. Factoring in the amount of space Spawn would need to be holding together through his power, this would require an energy output equivalent to... uh... an infinite amount of TNT?
Boomstick: So basically what you're saying is, unless you're just as unreasonably decked out as Spawn, he hits you and you basically just die on that spot.
Wiz: Not... completely far off. He's also far above the angels in terms of speed, who once transported the angel Abidiel to Heaven in 3 dimensional seconds- a completely non-linear measurement of time.
Boomstick: ...What-
Wiz: And within his own realms, he even has a degree of omnipotence that effectively allows him to exist everywhere within these very realms. I could go on but it should be pretty clear this form of Spawn is almost impossible to comprehend just how powerful he truly is. He is so unbelievably, unrelentingly powerful that simple mathematics are incapable of quantifying his sheer strength.
Boomstick: So with all this in mind... why did he decide to give up these powers by the end again?
Wiz: Well Spawn never simply became who he was for sake of power. Even if his methods were more than enough to warrant his arrival in Hell, like what got him killed and revived in the first place, Spawn's actions are, in the end, still motivated by a strong sense of morality. He came back from the brink to see his wife once more and eventually even ending up saving her, and the whole world for that matter, from the biblical war at hand. He even made up with Terry afterward and allowed them to live a happy life together.
Boomstick: Lucky bastard.
Wiz: He may be the predator to all the worst scum in and even out of the world, but even a monster can have a heart. Even if Heaven, Hell, Limbo and life itself are against him, there's no questioning that where evil exists, the Immortal Spawn will be there to sentence them to a worse fate than any time in Hell could ever give them.
Boomstick: ...God this guy is so hardcore.
Spawn: And who made you God, little man? Not that gun, not that uniform, nothing.
Demi-Fiend Conceives a Reason for Death Battle[]
(*Last Area - Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne*)
Wiz: What makes us human- the classic philosophical question with a multitude of layered answers. Emotions, understanding, goals, and so many more. But few things are as integral to our humanity as our ideologies and beliefs.
Boomstick: And for those who immediately noped out because of the philosophy lesson, don't worry, we're getting to the fun part of this soon.
Wiz: But this is the fun pa- whatever. We all keep true to the ideals we believe in and see as integral to running our world- whether it be the survival of the fittest mindsets of ancient times or the current world political spectrum.
Boomstick: But human belief in the Shin Megami Tensei world is far more powerful than just a dumb old politics speech. All those gods and mythological figures you hear about? Those are real here!
Wiz: Many of the fundamental building blocks of this world stem from the beliefs of the many who populate this world, but for one Naoki Kashima, these "beliefs" would be the start to a very long and very strange journey.
Boomstick: Ha, Strange Journey- I see what you did there.
Wiz: Ahem, it all started one day when Naoki met up with his friends to go search for their teacher, Yuko Takao, in a seemingly abandoned hospital.
Boomstick: After a brief and totally not random encounter with a cult leader that nearly killed him by summoning a demon, Naoki ended up being found by his teacher instead, who explained to him a prophesized event known as the Conception. And hey, right on cue, the Conception strikes- turning the freaking world inside out and knocking Naoki out cold.
Wiz: After a... bizarre dream of a child dropping a horrific looking parasite onto Naoki, he awoke on a hospital bed- covered in neon tattoos and now possessing immense mystic powers-
Boomstick: And a dumb looking spike on the back of his neck. The fuck is that thing for?
Wiz: With these, Naoki would search this new Vortex World in search of his missing friends Chiaki and Isamu, as well as Takao in order to gain answers as to what the Conception was all about.
Boomstick: Though not before paying a visit to a weird old man that also turned out to be that weird kid Naoki met in his dreams... not bizarre at all.
Wiz: This was the fallen angel himself, Lucifer, who had infused Naoki with a Magatama- a parasite that imbued him with demonic powers and... also actually let him live in a world that humans could not exist in. He was no longer a mere human- he was the Demi-Fiend.
Boomstick: With these new powers dear ol' Lucifer gifted him, the Demi-Fiend became an absolute unit. He and his scrawny shirtless ass may not look it but he's a monster in battle, possessing super human strength, insane endurance and tons of magical powers.
Wiz: Many of these powers are the result of the Magatama Lucifer merged the Demi-Fiend with, and as he explored his new surroundings, Demi-Fiend would gain more and more as he journeyed each corner of the Earth.
Boomstick: What corners? It's an inside out sphere, I don't think there's many corners he could possibly be looking at Wiz.
Wiz: It's a metaphor Boomstick!
Boomstick: Then tell me what a metaphor for "you're dumb and annoying is".
Wiz: Oh that's easy- Boomstick!
Boomstick: Yeah that's what I thought Boomsti-HEY WAIT A MINU-
Wiz: Demi-Fiend can mix and match different Magatama in order to achieve different elemental properties, though many comes with their fair share of weaknesses as well. The Wadatsumi Magatama for instance grants complete immunity to the cold.
Boomstick: Hey what are yo-AAHH!!!!!!!
*Wiz throws the Wadatsumi Magatama at Boomstick*
Boomstick: AH GET IT OFF ME, GET IT OFF AH-
*Boomstick merges with the Magatama*
Boomstick: Oh hey, look Wiz! I got these cool tattoos!
Wiz: Though as a side effect, it does possess a nasty weakness to electricity.
*Wiz straps on rubber gloves and pulls out taser, where he begins shocking Boomstick*
Boomstick: Hey what are yo-*incomprehensible Boomstick noises*
Wiz: The Adama Magatama meanwhile nullifies the effects of electricity and even passively sends it right back to the attacker.
*Wiz flings an Adama Magatama at Boomstick and the two merge, sending the taser's shocks back into Wiz' hands (though the rubber protects them)*
Boomstick: Ha, your pathetic electricity can't do anything to me now!
Wiz: Though it does also come with a weakness to force attacks.
*Wiz puts on safety goggles and grabs out large shockwave gun, which he begins charging*
Boomstick: Wait, weak to wha-
*Wiz fires a shockwave at Boomstick*
Boomstick: AAAAAAAAAHHHHH-
*Boomstick flies and crashes into something off screen... possibly also taking half the studio with him*
Boomstick: ...I'm okay. Just a couple bones peeking out.
(*Battle B2 (Boss Battle Theme) - Shin Megami Tensei IV*)
Pop-up: Demi-Fiend's most powerful Magatama, the Masakados Magatama, not only completely nullifies ailments such as poison or mind manipulating but also many elemental attacks such as fire, ice, lightning, force, light and darkness, just to name a few, with no weaknesses to speak of.
Wiz: Each Magatama Demi-Fiend infused his body with also unlocked a new set of abilities that made him even more powerful.
Boomstick: He can create energy blades, horrifically poison you, mess with your mind, increase his offensive stats and lower yours, shoot energy attacks from his hands, shoot energy attacks from his eyes, shoot energy attacks from his feet, shoot energy attacks from his stomach, y'know I'm starting to notice a pattern here.
Wiz: He can also manipulate the elements, allowing him to create incredible torrents of flame, smite you with powerful lightning, make deadly cyclones or devastating tremors, induce deadly curses, send you flying with intense rays of light or create chillingly cold blades of ice.
Boomstick: He's kicked the asses of too many demons to count with both his physical and magical repertoire, including Black Frost, who's weaker cousin King Frost could freeze the frickin' Earth solid.
Wiz: There's several ways we can interpret what "freezing the Earth" refers to but the safest assumption would be that King Frost is capable of freezing the entire Earth's known water supply- meaning he would have to freeze over 1 sextillion litres of water! That would require an energy output of around 108 petatons of TNT- enough to sink entire continents.
Boomstick: And that's what a mid-tier demon can do. Just imagine what the big fries can pull off.
Wiz: With these new powers in hand, Demi-Fiend ventures all across the new Vortex World, eventually even finding his friends amidst the hoards of powerful demons that infested the world.
Boomstick: And if you were expecting them to cheerfully reunite and go through the world together while watching each other's backs... yeah I don't know why you'd expect that because shit just going wrong is kinda just a trend this episode at this point.
(*Labyrinth of Amala - Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne*)
Wiz: See, the Conception isn't just your normal everyday apocalypse. It's a trial to renew the world in the shape of one's Reason.
Boomstick: Basically, a Reason is a view of how the world should operate. A world based on survival of the fittest, a world where everyone is a mindless cog to a greater system, a world of complete and total isolation, all of these act as a person's Reason.
Wiz: With the help of a powerful summon known as a Demonic Sponsor, these Reason bearers are meant to reach the light of Kagutsuchi- the being in which the Vortex World now revolves around, in order to see their Reason become reality.
Boomstick: Being a demon, Demi-Fiend isn't able to form his own reason, but nothing's stopping him from supporting his pals so their ideal world can become a reality.
Wiz: Though in choosing to support one, he becomes enemy to the other. There are multiple different paths, so to speak, Demi-Fiend has the choice to walk down, either aiding one of his friends in bringing their Reason to light or walking a different path.
Boomstick: Regardless of which he picks, he ends up at odds with anyone who's Reason he doesn't support. Basically like a slightly more deadly version of any political talk with the family at Thanksgiving.
Wiz: However, his friends wouldn't be the only ones Demi-Fiend can listen to. Lucifer- the one who gave him the Magatama in the first place- would also be there, goading Demi-Fiend into joining his own cause, while testing him with a myriad of powerful demons.
Boomstick: Demons Demi-Fiend isn't just able to fight, but can also recruit to his side and summon at any point in battle. He's got all sorts of monsters to choose from. Soldiers, fairies, loveable ice mascots, slightly less loveable but way more powerful ice mascots, Lovecraftian nightmares, the four Archangles, a giant monster fly that can shoot tinier flies, a robot angel that can smite you with holy eye lasers, Dante from Devil May Cry, a bunch of skeletons with powerful magic properti- whoa whoa whoa what was that last one?
Wiz: Some of Demi-Fiend's favourites include Ghirimehkala and Arahabaki, who passively reflect any physical attack that comes into contact with them, Titania and Parvati who possess powerful magic spells, Cu Chulainn who can reduce enemy defenses and smite them with strong physical offense and his most trusted companion, his own personally enhanced Pixie, who can heal grievous wounds and drop powerful defense ignoring nukes in the form of Megidolaon.
Boomstick: Some of these demons can even evolve into more powerful entities overtime. Kinda like a somehow even more horrifying Pokémon.
Wiz: Wait, what do you mean slightly more horrifyi-
Boomstick: Don't try to play innocent Wiz, you know exactly what I meant.
Wiz: ...Ooooooooooookay. Well uh, Demi-Fiend's demons are incredibly powerful- more than enough to easily dispose of any in his way without Demi-Fiend's aid.
Pop-up: Demi-Fiend can fuse demons together in order to achieve even more powerful summons. However, this is not an ability he can use on a whim in battle, as he requires the aid of Mido and the Cathedral of Shadows to do this.
Boomstick: Mada in particular is stated to be capable of swallowing the entire universe...
Wiz: ...
Boomstick: I'm not making that joke Wiz, I have standards.
Wiz: Good. While a timeframe is never specified, a swallow is generally a fairly fast action- at most taking about a second. The observable universe in SMT is stated to be approximately 130 billion light years, so Mada must've been swallowing over 4 quintillion times light speed to pull this off in one second.
Boomstick: Well wouldn't that be one hell of a way to go.
(*Reason Battle - Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne*)
Wiz: With this army at his side, Demi-Fiend would in time make his way up to Kagutsuchi. Regardless of the path he takes, many of those closest to him would be lost on the journey as his closest friends fought it up to uphold their ideals, even if that meant Demi-Fiend had to get through them by force.
Boomstick: Demi-Fiend stood in front of Kagutsuchi and did battle with him, winning the fight and seeing the dawn of a new world in the respective Reason bearer's image... well, assuming Kagutsuchi didn't just banish him to a nowhere's land instead.
Wiz: This is how it ends in most timelines, but one path sees a far different conclusion. Should Demi-Fiend venture into the deepest depths of the Labyrinth of Amala where Lucifer's trials for him awaited, battling his way to the bitter end and fully embracing Lucifer's ideals, he can choose to discard his humanity entirely in order to become a True Demon.
Boomstick: As a True Demon, Demi-Fiend gains the Pierce ability- allowing him to completely ignore any enemy defences. Even if they're completely immune to harm, Pierce just lets Demi-Fiend nope right by it and beat the shit out of them anyways.
Pop-up: Pierce's only drawback is that it cannot bypass reflectors or other means of bouncing an attack back. For instance, if you are immune to or even absorb and heal from fire, Pierce will still bypass your defenses but if you bounce the attack back to sender, it won't bypass being reflected.
Wiz: And when Demi-Fiend approached Kagutsuchi, rather than be the final test to determine the fate of the new world, Kagutsuchi was horrified by the blackness that now dwelled within Demi-Fiend's heart and vowed to get rid of him.
Boomstick: Only for Demi-Fiend to whoop his ass instead.
Wiz: Instead of defeating Kagutsuchi, Demi-Fiend just... killed him. But Kagutsuchi didn't simply just die- with his death came the destruction of countless other worlds- entire universes in the millions of billions along with the infinite Amala Network, the cycle of rebirth and time itself.
Boomstick: Oh god, not this shit again.
Wiz: Space and time collapsed and was destroyed right in front of him, yet Demi-Fiend still lived, and even battled Lucifer in the resulting void- a void, I should remind you, in which time was destroyed and did not exist. Not even a planck instant passed, yet Demi-Fiend could still cross distances.
Boomstick: And considering Demi-Fiend could even throw hands with Stephen- a being that transcended the most powerful force in all of Shin Megami Tensei above even places like YHVH's branes which are stated to be more and more infinite as you climb the numbers- a literal infinite amount of space just blowing up in his face isn't even an outlier.
Wiz: Yet even with all of these incredible traits, Demi-Fiend still possesses one tool that trumps them all.
Boomstick: *Facepalming and pulling his face down*. This is gonna be a long day, isn't it?
Wiz: Probably. See, every being possesses "Observation"- an ability that transforms human perception into reality. For instance, if a thunderstorm occurred and it was believed to be the work of a god, through Observation, the God of Thunder would be born. Every being has it but only Messiahs like Demi-Fiend can really weaponise it.
Boomstick: Observation allowed fellow Messiah Nanashi to strip the Great Will itself of its godhood and reduce him to a mere demon, and even reform the soul of another Messiah, Kazuya, back into his original shape.
Wiz: Observation in the most simplistic sense, essentially allows the user to rewrite the rules of reality through their perception.
Boomstick: So now you're probably thinking that this kid who can't even properly dress himself is probably the most broken thing in existence... yeah, too bad he's kind of a dumbass despite being so unreasonably powerful.
Wiz: Well okay, "dumb" isn't quite the right word. Rather, Demi-Fiend is very easily swayed and isn't one to usually take the initiative. He's a soldier, not a leader, outside of commanding his demon army in battle. At the same time though, this mentality was sort of what Lucifer had been looking for.
Boomstick: Lucifer fell from grace and became the enemy to the Great Will itself- wanting to free humanity from the lies it fed them and unshackle them to go crazy- setting them free from order and plunging the world instead into chaos.
Wiz: While Demi-Fiend had the potential all of the Reason bearers needed to bring about the perfect world, Lucifer would be the one who brought the most out of it. Even when cursed by the Great Will for the damage he did upon killing Kagutsuchi, Lucifer gave him his blessing and readied him to charge against the Great Will. He wasn't a mere demon. He was the very King of Chaos the world needed.
Boomstick: He may be a Messiah but make no mistake. It doesn't matter whether you side with order or chaos, light or dark, Heaven or Hell, because if Demi-Fiend wants you gone, there ain't gonna be any salvation for your ass.
Demi-Fiend: *Defeats Lucifer*
Ad Break[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilities!
Boomstick: But first, why not protect your Internet browsing from demonic practices with today's sponsor, NordVPN?!
(NordVPN ad)
Boomstick: But right now, it's time for a Death Battle!
Fight[]
(*Dante Appears - Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne*)
In Ikebukuro we see a large tower that pierces the skies itself- the Mantra Headquarters, panning down to the building beneath as the Demi-Fiend walks up the stairs that lead to its entrance. The candles that line the path up to the entrance illuminate the way, until Demi-Fiend reaches the door. Just before entering, he senses something... off. A dark, sinister presence can be felt behind him as the air turns foul and ghastly- the deathly silence only being broken by the sound of a gun being loaded- a gun aimed straight at the back of his head. It is not a demon, but a Hellspawn instead- Al Simmons.
Spawn: You've got two choices here kid.
Demi-Fiend slowly turns around, Spawn's looming figure taking up much of his view as his cape and myriad of chains surrounded him from all angles.
Spawn: Lay down now and you might die less painfully than all your other demonic friends I sent back to Hell on the way here...
Spawn readies his trigger finger to fire.
Spawn: Or I'll show you your worst fucking nightmare.
Threatening as his presence was, Demi-Fiend didn't even flinch at the threat. Without a moment of hesitation, Spawn began firing at him with a pistol, all of his shots bouncing off of Demi-Fiend as though he were shooting a wall.
Spawn: Oh? Seems you're less pathetic than those other demon fucks.
Spawn ditches the pistol and from beneath his cape, he grabs out every single imaginable firearm known to man, carrying them all in just his two arms and started firing at Demi-Fiend haphazardly and without a single care for collateral. Demi-Fiend darted around each shot and the ensuing onslaught of chains that accompanied them, running right up to Spawn in the blink of an eye and delivering a gut buster of a punch that sent Spawn hurdling through the air before he quickly caught himself mid flight.
Demi-Fiend's foot can be seen glowing as he revved it back and swung for a kick that threw out a multitude of powerful projectiles using his Javelin Rain skill. They all homed in on Spawn and right before striking, Spawn's cape completely envelops his body and takes the assault for him, leaving him barely scratched. When the cape next opens, Spawn unleashes a wave of chains upon Demi-Fiend. These chains rend apart the environment around him and despite managing to evade them for a time, a sneaky chain manages to latch onto his leg and reel Demi-Fiend right back to Spawn's hand like a fishing rod. Demi-Fiend struggles to break out of the grip he has on his throat, as Spawn leans in to threaten the demon to his face.
Spawn: I always deliver on my promises kid. Being sent to Hell would be mercy compared to me.
Spawn flings Demi-Fiend hard enough to go through several pillars like they weren't even there, and before Demi-Fiend even lands on the ground, Spawn fires at him with two uzis and guns him down on his way to the other end of Ikebukuro. As Demi-Fiend lands, he dissipates the uzi shots with Zandyne, creating a shockwave that pushes them all back, as well as obliterating more of the building and pushing Spawn back. Demi-Fiend fires at the stunned Spawn with Maragidyne, incinerating the debris flung to the air by the shockwave and unleashing a torrent of flames upon Spawn, which he counters by conjuring a tidal wave that connects with the flames and creates an enormous steam cloud that obscures the area. Spawn uses this to his advantage, disappearing into the cloud and taking the stealthy option to get the jump on Demi-Fiend.
Unfortunately, Demi-Fiend has other plans. After firing several energy shots into the cloud at random and not hitting anything, he instead uses Tornado- slamming his fists into the ground and creating a series of devastating cyclones that rips Ikebukuro apart and swallows the entire steam cloud, albeit not affecting Spawn at all who simply stands amidst the chaos.
Spawn: Trying to suck me in? Let me show you how it's done.
Spawn channels his magic and at the very center of the Vortex World creates an enormous black hole that within seconds, starts consuming not just the arena they started in but the world itself. The Vortex World slowly crumbles and moved towards the singularity, including Demi-Fiend's own twisters. Try as he might to stand his ground, the vacuum's power was overwhelming, so instead of fighting against it, Demi-Fiend started leaping across the debris moving towards the singularity to reach Spawn that way.
Within the blink of an eye, Spawn's chains fly through the air like a series of vicious snakes in Demi-Fiend's direction, who leaps across the debris and evades each attack as it comes. Spawn takes to the air as the onslaught of chains keep coming, if not hitting Demi-Fiend then smashing each and every platform he has to work with. Demi-Fiend notices an Amala Drum nearby and has an idea. He grabs a building being sucked towards the black hole and flings it just a ways away from where Spawn is, causing it to crash into a series of other buildings headed towards the singularity and creating an avalanche of massive rubble that threatened to knock Spawn into his own void.
Spawn: Shit!
Spawn uses Necroplasm to teleport out of the way of the attack and behind Demi-Fiend in order to get the jump on him. Demi-Fiend kicks the Amala Drum behind him and launches it in Spawn's direction. However, Spawn's suit reacts before the Amala Drum even leaves the ground, lashing out a chain at the drum and catching it before even Spawn can react. Spawn then attacks with more chains, but Demi-Fiend decides to take them head on this time- grabbing them as they come and with the might of a god, pulls Spawn towards him, grabbing Al by the face and forcibly shoving it into the Amala Drum, which just as the ground beneath them enters the black hole, reacts to being touched and transports the two into the Amala Network as the Vortex World crumbles away into nothingness.
The two are sent hurdling through a network that connects each part of the Vortex World. Spawn is still reeling from being forced into this bizarre series of endless hallways, and while his suit gets the warning sign that danger is approaching, before Spawn can react in time to the attack, Demi-Fiend flies out of nowhere and lands a devastating punch, before continuing to whale on him as the two were still flying down the halls at blinding speeds. Demi-Fiend uses the Focus skill to increase the power of his next attack and the very next second, punches a hole straight through Spawn's body that launches him to the other end of the Network. With the new distance between them as Demi-Fiend continues rapidly approaching, Spawn unleashes a wave of Necroplasm Demi-Fiend's way, which succeeds in halting him for a short while as his healing factor went to work. As Demi-Fiend tries powering through the Necroplasm, Spawn camouflages himself, seemingly disappearing from sight as soon as Demi-Fiend successfully gets through the attack. He wanders the halls, staring up and down the corridors wondering where his foe went, only to feel, before he can even react, a hand grab him by the back of the head as a looming presence suddenly appeared behind him and lifted him above a floor of hellfire.
Spawn: You're coming with me.
Spawn and Demi-Fiend slowly sink into the flaming hole in the floor, as Demi-Fiend attempts desperately to break out of Spawn's grip and his screams can be heard before being muffled out as he's fully submerged in the flames and they disappear out of the Amala Network. Demi-Fiend next finds himself falling towards the ground and upon making his landing, he looks around, seeing nothing but crimson red mountains ablaze and a sky full of dark ashen clouds and cinder, all accompanied by the screams of the damned surrounding him on all sides. No mistaking it- this was Hell. He doesn't have much time to take in his surroundings though, as from seemingly out of nowhere, more chains come towards him, which Demi-Fiend avoids and sees that lurking behind him when he entered was a camouflaged Spawn hiding amidst the Hellfire.
Spawn grabs the Sword of the Spirit and makes a break for Demi-Fiend, who responds by conjuring a sword of pure energy out of his hands to combat the blade. He keeps up with Spawn's swordsmanship for a while but when he seemingly has the advantage and goes for a downward strike, Spawn catches his blade with the claws on his hand and with a twist of the wrist, disarms Demi-Fiend and sends his energy blade halfway across the arena. Before Spawn can do anything else, Demi-Fiend kicks him square in the chest and makes himself some space. As Spawn goes in for the kill, Demi-Fiend throws out his hand in front of him as a series of lightning bolts strike the ground, in front of him a demon shrouded in shadow that throws a red cape in front of the two as Spawn delivers a downward slash that slices the cape apart, only to reveal neither were behind it anymore.
Spawn: The hell?!
One half of the cape flies several meters from Spawn before twisting and revealing Demi-Fiend and the demon Matador behind it, as the cape reforms in his hand.
Matador: What be the matter demon? Have your dueling skills been dulled? Nyahahahahaha!
Spawn: Who invited you, skull fucker?
Spawn feels another warning from his suit, as he turns and gets struck by of all things, a motorcycle. It was the demon Hell Biker, who had run right over Al and was dragging his body in front of the bike.
Hell Biker: OUT OF THE WAY LOSERS, THIS IS HELL BIKER'S ROAD AND I AIN'T STOPPING FOR NONE OF YOU FUTURE ROADKILL!!!
Spawn wastes on time in jumping onto the front of the bike, shoving a pistol straight into Hell Biker's mouth
Spawn: I'm gonna blow that lower jaw of yours up to the Heaven gates!
Indeed he does, pulling the trigger as Hell Biker's head explodes into boney shrapnel and his bike crashes into the side of a large rock. Spawn lands on the ground safely, but is immediately forced to jump out of the way of an arrow shot, and eventually a series of spells from the four Riders- White Rider, Black Rider, Pale Rider and Red Rider. He weaves in and out of the onslaught of arrows, light and curse attacks and Demi-Fiend's own onslaught of electricity he began firing from a long ways away. Spawn flies far above all of the Riders and every other Fiend that Demi-Fiend had summoned and gives him a taste of his own medicine, releasing the soul legion locked within his body.
Spawn: Die.
Immediately, a sea of souls pours out of Spawn like a waterfall and crashes along the ground like a tidal wave- every Fiend getting caught in the unholy flood and sinking amidst the stampede of the damned. Demi-Fiend is once again left by himself, as Spawn uses a trick to close the distance before Demi-Fiend could get out of the way- freezing time in place. The soul legion stopped, the fires of Hell froze in place, everything was now completely locked into place. Spawn flew towards Demi-Fiend and prepared to cut him down with the Sword of the Spirit...
and as soon as he swings down, he notices a large gaping cut in his body as he tumbles to the ground. He looks up to see Demi-Fiend slashed him first, as he didn't even feel the effects of the time stop. Time resumed as the soul legion continued to rampage across Hell, so Demi-Fiend leaped above them all and summoned the demon Beelzebub, who he grabbed onto one of the legs of and hitched a ride on the giant flying insect.
Beelzebub: Let us drown them all in a sea of chaos! Unleash Hell upon them!
Demi-Fiend leaped onto the back of Beelzebub where he summoned a series of demons to leap into the soul legion with: Ghirimehkala, Arahabaki, Cu Chulainn, Parvati and Titania. The six of them leaped from the lord of chaos' back into the damned seas beneath, as several of the souls emerged to combat the incoming threat- namely Kumiko and Kitamura who challenged them all head on. Ghirimehkala and Arahabki remained in front and Kumiko's attempts to shoot them down and Kitamura's attempts to slice them to ribbons failed as their attacks were simply bounced right back, as Cu Chulainn breezed by them and plunged his lance into the soul legion, creating a space for the remaining demons and Demi-Fiend to land. All three prepared a combination of ice and force attacks and upon landing in the space Cu Chulainn created, fired a Mabufudyne into the legion who's cold reaches were expanded into a full on blizzard by Mazandyne, as the legion and Spawn himself were swallowed in the freezing cold.
The blizzard eventually subsided, as we see all of Hell has been frozen over and turned into a chilly tundra, littered with souls frozen into statues. Demi-Fiend rises up, his heavy breath visible in the freezing cold, alongside his demon allies. Unfortunately for him, the battle is far from over. The same shadowy presence he has become all too familiar with by now still remained and was seemingly everywhere amidst the ice. We see a shadow fluttering along the ground and appearing in the reflection of the ice, as the ground began to quake more and more. Demi-Fiend began to realise it wasn't just shaking, but a continent sized chunk of the ground was moving into the air, splitting apart at the center and folding in on itself like a bear trap. Chains begin emerging from the ice that one by one ensnares each of the demons Demi-Fiend had summoned, but before one can catch him, Beelzebub swoops in to give Demi-Fiend a lift out of these as the rest of his demons are left to get sandwiched by two halves of a frozen over land mass. Before he knows it though, a crimson rag flies straight into Demi-Fiend and knocks him straight off of Beelzebub, it eventually unravelling to reveal itself as Spawn's cape, with Spawn now on top of the falling Demi-Fiend with two pistols aimed straight at each eye.
Spawn: Go ahead. Summon more of your freak ass friends. They might help mop your head off the floor.
In spite of the obvious sarcasm, Demi-Fiend obliges as he summons another demon, who sucker punches Spawn from above and sends him careening into the ground too. Demi-Fiend summons Pixie as well to heal his wounds as his previous summon takes Spawn head on. The dust cloud from where Spawn landed in the ice is immediately blown away by his cape as he gets up, and he sees the one that struck him was a tiny, adorable ice mascot: Jack Frost. Spawn picks him up like a disobedient cat and stared at him unamused for a second.
Jack Frost: Hee-you're kind of a weird-ho, y'kn-ho that-
He doesn't even get a chance to finish as a bright green flash can be seen from the distance by Demi-Fiend as Pixie finishes healing him back to perfect condition. The enormous Black Frost emerges from the ice, as Demi-Fiend quickly realises something abnormal about the demon- Spawn is on top of the giant demon's head, a strange energy emerging from his hand into Black Frost causing him to rampage. Spawn is messing with his mind and turning his own demon against Demi-Fiend. Demi-Fiend summons one last demon- Metatron, and with Pixie and Beelzebub takes the threat head on. Black Frost uses Berserk to stomp the ground and create a shockwave that kicks up much of the ice, which Demi-Fiend leaps right over as Beelzebub flies in to fire a series of Death Flies to surround Black Frost- creating a tornado of deathly insects encasing the titanic demon.
Black Frost merely responds by casting Mabufudyne- blasting through the flies with a deadly chill that even pushes Beelzebub back, though this distraction would still prove to be enough, as Metatron approached from behind amidst the chaos and with the Fire of Sinai, fired holy beams out of his eyes that just narrowly missed Spawn as he used Necroplasm to teleport out of the way but completely splits Black Frost in half, ending his rampage as his halved carcass collapses to the ground. Spawn re-emerges in front of Demi-Fiend and attempts to attack him faster than he can react with the Sword of the Spirit, but his surprise attack is unsuccessful as Pixie ends up blasting it straight out of his hand with a powerful bolt of lightning thanks to Maziodyne.
Pixie: Aaaaawww, what's the matter? Did I break your toy?
Metatron follows this up by blasting Spawn with Fire of Sinai, which he blocks with his cape.
Metatron: CEASE THY TREACHERY, HEATHEN WHO DARE DEFY GOD!
Spawn: Why don't you go kiss your god if you love him that much?
Spawn turns himself intangible to phase through the Fire of Sinai and fly behind Metatron, grabbing his throat and arms with his chains and choking the mechanical demon out.
Spawn: Hope your god appreciates the scrap pile they'll be bringing back.
Spawn's Necroplasm creeps down the chains and into Metatron's body, as green light beams out his eyes and joints from the Necroplasm threatening to annihilate him from the inside out. Before Spawn can finish him off though, his suit wars him again of oncoming danger, as Spawn turns around only to be rammed by Beelzebub at light speed as Metatron is released from his chains' grip. Spawn soon recovers and starts shooting Beelzebub point blank in the face, but he barely seems to care.
Beelzebub: Your mere human artillery is nothing to me, vile creature!
Spawn: A fucking fly like you is calling me vile?
Spawn's chains wrap around Beelzebub and even plunge in and out of his body, impaling him in multiple areas while also ensnaring Beelzebub's wings to keep him from flying. Beelzebub, however, instead of writhing in agony, merely laughs.
Beelzebub: Only chaos awaits you!
Beelzebub casts an ice spell on himself, freezing his entire body and locking the chains into place. Spawn is more confused than alarmed at the idea, wondering what it was supposed to do to stop him, but as his shadow grows larger and larger against the icicle Beelzebub encased himself in, he quickly realised what was going on. The light that had been casting his Shadow had been coming from Pixie, Beelzebub and Demi-Fiend, who were all charging up a Megidolaon as Beelzebub sacrificed himself to keep Spawn in place. Spawn attempted to turn the chains intangible but he wasn't able to escape in time, as all three attacks collided and send an almighty explosion all through the circle of Hell.
When the explosion had finally subsided, the ice was fully melted from the blast and Beelzebub and Spawn were nowhere to be seen. Metatron, having taken such a hefty blow earlier, finally succumbs to his wounds and drops to the floor, vanishing from the battlefield, leaving just Demi-Fiend and Pixie behind.
Pixie: This is just like old times, don'tcha think?
Pixie tried smooth talking to Demi-Fiend, who despite not buying into any of it, let her keep talking anyways.
Pixie: Y'know, you and I, we really make an awesome duo. Nothing could ever stop the two of u-
Pixie doesn't get to finish her thought as a chain hurdles through the air and swats her like a fly, her wings falling to the ground in front of a shocked Demi-Fiend as his companion is taken out by a beaten up but fast healing Spawn, who jumps straight at Demi-Fiend and drags him across the infernal floors of Hell for an unreasonable distance before throwing him through a mountain in the distance. Spawn looks at himself and realises his condition is far from ideal to keep up the fight, and so he teleports out of the arena entirely.
Demi-Fiend rises from the rubble caused by his crashing into the mountain, more pissed off than injured, wondering where Spawn went. He sees off in the distance an Amala Drum and makes a break for it- surprisingly, for him at least, his trip being uninterrupted by a sneak attack from Spawn at any points. He reaches the drum and uses it to teleport away from Hell. He scours the halls of the Amala Network, looking up, down, left, right, every direction for his enemy, until he got a sense of that same presence he felt the whole fight. The only difference was, something about it felt far... holier. More importantly, it was a far deadlier presence than before.
Demi-Fiend walked up to the exit of the Amala Network, and found himself in what looked to be... paradise. A place of untold beauty and majesty surrounded him, completely unlike the hellscape he had just witnessed. There was an odd... eeriness to it all, and he would soon see why. Descending from the clouds, onto this land was Spawn once again, but instead of his trademark cape, it was now... angel wings. This new Spawn stared Demi-Fiend down from above. Demi-Fiend put his hand out in front and began focusing energy into it for a Divine Shot, but before he could even react, Spawn vanished from sight with speed alone and struck Demi-Fiend in the stomach with a punch that felt like a supernova going off inside him. The breath shot out of Demi-Fiend's lungs as he collapsed to the floor in shock.
Spawn: I told you, didn't I?
A hole opened up underneath Demi-Fiend, as he fell into what looked to be outer space- a galaxy can be seen behind him as he hurdled toward it.
Spawn: I will show you your worst nightmare.
As the hole closed up, Demi-Fiend is met with a supernova heading straight for him. It doesn't just hit him but in the same moment, it flies straight through the galaxy like a hot knife through butter. One star in the galaxy explodes, then another, and another, and it just kept multiplying until in time, an entire universe was exploding on top of Demi-Fiend and he was engulfed in an infinite number of starlit flames from every corner of the cosmos. Everything went white, there was no sound, no feeling but the hot, burning force of so many exploding stars, and once that had subsided... nothing. Nothing remained any longer. It was all white noise to him, until Demi-Fiend would next open his eyes. He was now in what appeared to be a desert wasteland, that stretched for an incalculable amount of miles ahead, a distance too incomprehensible to begin describing. His hand and feet were tied to a cross by chains in the middle of nowhere that, try as he might, he couldn't break out of. His strength was beginning to fade, as the only thing to break up the sight of sand and dark clouds was Spawn- reappearing in the wasteland to see Demi-Fiend once more. Even as a God, he decides to place a gun to the bridge of Demi-Fiend nose, to take him out in one clean shot.
Spawn: All this trouble for one kid. You think you're a godslayer? You're just another mistake of nature like me.
And like that, Spawn pulled the trigger. Demi-Fiend felt a brief bit of pain and his ears nearly burst at the sound of a loud bang, but afterward he was met with an endless darkness. His senses were deprived of anything to latch onto- nothing to see, hear, smell, or even communicate with. It looked to be the end...
???: Hmhmhmhmhmhmhm...
Demi-Fiend heard an elderly fit of giggles from far away.
???: Your role isn't finished quite yet... King of Chaos.
Demi-Fiend recognised the voice. It was Lucifer, appearing before him. Demi-Fiend could feel his power returning to him. The markings on his body turned a deep, blood crimson as his eyes lit up into a similarly disturbing shade of red, his whole body twitching as the bullet that entered his head flew out just as quickly. Spawn was taken aback as the chains that held Demi-Fiend down burned to cinder, and he was back on his feet one more time. Spawn attempted to release a series of tree roots from beneath to bind and crush Demi-Fiend but he merely walked through them like they were as flimsy as the air he breathed. From both hands, Spawn fires a beam of holy light out at Demi-Fiend, which he responds in kind with two Divine Shots from his hands, as they enter a beam struggle that sends the shifting sands around them in every direction. Demi-Fiend's attack wins out in the end but they don't simply damage Spawn- as the attacks land on target, the very Mother of Existence Spawn merged with to attain the form was struck right out of Spawn's body.
Spawn: What?! How?!
The Mother of Existence begins disappearing, as the wasteland they battled in, as well as the very multiverse itself, began to crumble and wither away. Reality shattered, space and time were falling apart, they had nothing left to lose now. Spawn attempts to attack Demi-Fiend again with his chains but he only succeeds in giving Demi-Fiend something to pull him in with after he grabs them again, Spawn landing on Demi-Fiend's foot as he kicks Spawn away from his own chains and rips them out of his body viciously. Spawn doesn't even have time to fly far from Demi-Fiend, as a surge of energy courses through Demi-Fiend's body and Gaea Rage is unleashed, firing a series of energy attacks into Spawn's body that strikes him repeatedly and sends him into the air, as one final surge through Demi-Fiend's body goes to his eyes and he unleashes a Freikugel that connects with Spawn and sends him careening into the deepest depths of space. When Spawn comes to from the attack, he looks around him as the very fabric of reality is tearing itself apart even in deep space.
Spawn: Wha-where am I?! What have you done?!
Demi-Fiend channels two Divine Shots at the ground to propel him through the air. Spawn's suit delivers another warning but he is unable to react in time as Demi-Fiend hurdles through time and space and punches Spawn, sending both flying into the depths of the unknown even further. Spawn's body begins to vanish, as Demi-Fiend's Observation takes effect. It has already rejected the existence of the Mother of Existence and denied Spawn his godhood, now Spawn's existence is being taken out too. Spawn grabs Demi-Fiend by the face, unwilling to give up so easily.
Spawn: I'M TAKING YOU TO WHATEVER AFTERLIFE IS LEFT WITH ME!!!
Demi-Fiend's body reacts similarly, as Spawn begins erasing his very existence. Both of their screams can be heard from what remains of the multiverse, as Demi-Fiend powers himself up with multiple stat buffs and eventually Focus. Spawn pulls his remaining arm back, and Demi-Fiend his as his body turns a deep ebony black illuminated only by his markings as his hand swells with power, and in a mere Planck instant... both swing.
When their punches connect with each others' faces, reality shatters like a glass window. It breaks apart and flies into the void of nothingness, as nothing remains anymore. No space, no time, no life, no death, nothing at all. All that remains is the endless darkness... and maybe one unexpected visitor to this endless abyss. The camera pans around to a crimson light behind this figure, as we see the source of the light, Lucifer, standing in the background. The figure's body lights up a bright cyan, as we see Demi-Fiend stare into the endless nothingness, ending the battle once and for all.

(*Divine Identity - Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2*)
Announcer: K.O!!!
Boomstick: ONE MORE GOD REJECTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!... Hehe, sorry, I had to get that one in there.
Wiz: This battle was utterly incomprehensible to break down, not the least of which because of the utterly insane power of both combatants.
Boomstick: Considering both of their greatest feats of strength and speed are higher than any number could ever measure, our best bet to figure out who would win was to take a look at their arsenals and how they could counter them.
Wiz: Even then, both had such massive and downright monstrous arsenals that theoretically could have ended the fight on the spot... notice the use of that word though: "theoretically". Arsenals as wide reaching as theirs' are only as useful as their opponent is vulnerable to them, and while Spawn's arsenal is absolutely ridiculous, Demi-Fiend had an answer to a surprisingly large amount of it.
Boomstick: Attacking him with the elements? Demi-Fiend could straight up nullify most of them with his Magatama. Messing with his mind? Second verse, same as the first. Stopping time? Demi-Fiend could move where time didn't exist and wasn't moving. Even shit like reality or fate bending isn't anything he hasn't shrugged off before, or failing that he could do it right back to Spawn.
Pop-up: Demons in the Shin Megami Tensei world are explicitly meant to be their counterparts from their respective mythologies brought to life through Observation, which includes the likes of the Moirai who control every aspect of our fate, and Demi-Fiend straight up killed them before without being affected. There are many other examples of this but this alone is a good illustrator of how even some of Spawn's more abstract abilities such as controlling the flow of fate were ineffective against Demi-Fiend.
Wiz: And Spawn had a harder time really shrugging Demi-Fiend's myriad of options off thanks to Pierce allowing him to completely bypass any defenses Spawn may have had against them, even down to complete immunities.
Boomstick: Even with their summonable armies, Demi-Fiend had Spawn beat. He may have only had around 300 demons to work with compared to Spawn's 6,000 souls but unlike Demi-Fiend, Spawn's soul legion was basically just all comprised of people who died at the same time he did rather than actually trained monsters capable of battle.
Wiz: Given the versatility advantage Demi-Fiend's demons had over Spawn's soul legion as well, Spawn could have been quickly overwhelmed, especially when many of these demons such as Metatron or Beelzebub possessed similarly impossible power like Demi-Fiend, while Spawn's soul legion didn't share the same benefit.
Pop-up: Spawn's Hell army was far more equipped for the role of combat while keeping a numbers advantage but even besides being something he's less likely to use than the soul legion he's had far longer, they still pale in comparison in terms of versatility and strength.
Boomstick: None of this was to say Spawn was fresh out of edges in this fight. Dude sure as shit had the tactics and experience advantage considering he's a trained CIA operative vs a kid who's regularly called gullible and... well, backs that up a lot more than he doesn't, and unlike Demi-Fiend, Spawn didn't have to manually heal himself thanks to his healing factor.
Wiz: Plus, God Spawn was a whole other beast entirely. Between his omnipresence and downright ridiculous level of power and number of abilities, Demi-Fiend was in for a rough fight against him.
Boomstick: Or that's what we would say... if Demi-Fiend had to fight him at all.
Wiz: In the most ironic twist of all, thanks to Observation, Demi-Fiend could simply choose to reject Spawn's status as a God and... he'd simply cease to be one. And while Spawn in base may be strong enough to withstand supernovas, that's for beneath even a weaker estimate of Demi-Fiend's powers when he's withstood millions of billions of universes being destroyed, with just one universe requiring septillions of times more energy to destroy. Even with Spawn's insane healing factor, he wasn't anywhere close to durable enough to withstand a hit from Demi-Fiend in base, and while Spawn has regenerated from his entire body being destroyed, Demi-Fiend is capable of interacting with and harming souls, so he could still erase Spawn with Observation or simply smash his soul with a single punch.
Pop-up: The Messiah Nanashi once used Observation on fellow Messiah Kazuya. Humans in Shin Megami Tensei aren't created through Observation and yet Nanashi's attempts were still effective, so Spawn's status as a god not being tied to the same rules didn't matter in the end. Even if they did, Demi-Fiend's myriad of resistances, stat altering abilities and equally ridiculous power still let him keep up with God Spawn, especially when Demi-Fiend has defeated omnipotent beings in the past such as Lucifer and Stephen.
Boomstick: God, what did we get ourselves into with this one Wiz?!
Wiz: Well if nothing else, this was certainly a fascinating one to break down. Spawn is easily one of the deadliest and most powerful combatants we've looked at thus far, but in the end, he was simply no match for the insane versatility, incredible summoning and incalculable might of the Demi-Fiend.
Boomstick: There's a Reason he's called the Chaos King because Mother of god, did this one take a Nocturne towards the end.
Wiz: The winner is the Demi-Fiend.

Additional Notes[]
The connections between Spawn and Demi-Fiend are that they were both killed and soon revived by a devilish entity (Malebolgia and Lucifer respectively), who bonded them with a parasite that gave them all sorts of demonic and magical powers (K7-Leetha and the Magatama respectively). Both would do their demonic life-savers' dirty work in the world they came from, though different from when they last were seen (Spawn returning five years after his death and Demi-Fiend's world being transformed into the inside-out Vortex World), and having their relationships with their loved ones strained by circumstance (Spawn's wife remarrying and having a child with her new husband and Demi-Fiend's friends becoming demons that sought to change the world, even if it meant getting through him). Both would be involved in cosmic scale scuffles that would decide the faith of the entire world (Armageddon and the Conception respectively) and would be selected by a higher power (the Mother of Existence and Lucifer respectively) in order to stray from an existing conflict (God and Satan's battle and the clash of Reasons respectively) and bring out their full potential as something greater (the Mother of Existence using Spawn to prove that humanity is worth saving from God and Satan and Lucifer using Demi-Fiend to free the world of the Great Will's control and end the cycle of creation), with both boosting Spawn and Demi-Fiend's powers even further and moving them further and further away from being a mere human (Spawn merging with the Mother of Existence to become a god himself and Demi-Fiend inheriting more of Lucifer's power to become a full demon), turning them into god-slayers that even the forces of light and dark were terrified of. Both also specialise in magic and demonic summons (Spawn's Legion and Demi-Fiend's demons respectively), and hail from stories that heavily incorporate real world religious tales and subtext into their worlds.
