Sophitia Vs Kitana is a theoretical episode of Death Battle. It features Sophitia Alexandra of Soulcalibur against Kitana of Mortal Kombat.
Description[]
Sophitia vs Kitana! Battle of the warrior princesses!
Introduction[]
Wiz: Princesses are often known across video games for being helpless damsels who frequently get kidnapped and need saving from the brave hero.
Boomstick: But THESE princesses will fuck your ass up if you even attempt abducting them! Like Sophitia Alexandra, chosen warrior of the gods.
Wiz: And Kitana, Empress of Outworld.
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
Sophitia[]
Wiz: Sophitia Alexandra was born in Athens to a baker, living a simple life. Then that all changed when she was called upon Hephaestus, the god of forging and masonry, to be his holy warrior.
Boomstick: Her mission? To go seek and destroy Soul Edge. Because who else would you entrust with such an immense task than a baker's daughter?
Wiz: In spite of her lackluster origin story, Sophitia proved herself to be a capable fighter, and managed to destroy one of Soul Edge's halves during the battle with Cervantes, the then-current host of the cursed sword.
Boomstick: Unfortunately for her though, she didn't come out unscathed, as the shards of the sword flew back at her and caused near-fatal wounds. She was nearly done for had it not been for Taki swooping in and saving the day. Hey, since she was saved by a woman, does that mean-
Wiz: Not even in your dreams Boomstick.
Boomstick: Pffft, buddy, that's ALL my dreams are about.
Wiz: After recovering from her wounds, Sophitia found herself constantly being tasked by Hephaestus to purify the lands of the Malfested, creatures that are made of the same energy as Soul Edge.
Boomstick: You know, something tells me that Hephaestus is just trying to send Sophitia on suicide missions but is just really bad at it.
Wiz: Sophitia's able to fight these Malfested beings with her Omega Sword and Elk Shield, enchanted weapons that can cleanse even the darkest of souls. However since the Omega Sword she used on her quest for Soul Edge was too damaged, her fiancé Rothion was able to fashion her a new one that works just the same.
Boomstick: Must be nice having a loverboy who's also a blacksmith. And to prove how much of a badass she truly is, she enters battle against demonic humans wearing a flower skirt. Geez has no one ever heard of platemail in this universe?
Wiz: That's probably why she has the shield.
Boomstick: Yeah, good thing it's perfect for knocking enemies into the air.
Wiz: Sophitia is well-versed in the Athenian sword and shield style, and thanks to her use of holy weapons, she is able to channel the power of the gods, most notably Zeus's lightning bolts. In fact, her weapons seem to guide her fighting prowess altogether.
Boomstick: Of course the sword and shield aren't doing all the work though. It still takes a suitable fighter to pilot the weapons correctly, and it shows given the time her inexperienced sister Cassandra first used holy weapons similar to Sophitia's and was very haphazard with them.
Wiz: Sophitia became a more well-rounded shield maiden the longer her quests continued. Not only can she fight Cervantes, but she also managed to defeat Siegfried and tangled with Ivy Valentine and Inferno, the closest thing Soulcalibur has to the devil.
Boomstick: It really pays to have the entire Greek pantheon at your disposal doesn't it?
Wiz: That's kind of an exaggeration. Sophitia isn't calling upon every Greek god to power her up in her battles, that'd be a little ridiculous. However, from what we can gather from her moveset, she is channeling Athena, Hermes, Artemis, and possibly Kratos.
Boomstick: Wait a tick, like THAT Kratos?
Wiz: No not that one. The actual Kratos of Greek mythology, who is the god of strength.
Boomstick: Oh ok. Ya know it's easy to forget he was based on an actual god at times.
Wiz: I bet. While Sophitia is a noble warrior, it's important to remember that she's still a regular human, and the gods didn't bless her with immortality.
Boomstick: Yep, in true Greek god fashion, they were too big of assholes to give her the one thing that would actually help her out in fighting a bunch of demon zombies.
Wiz: Still, due to her altruism and courage, you can expect Sophitia to face down any and all threats with the might of millions of men.
Boomstick: Mind your manners Wiz, millions of WOMEN is more like! Millions of well-endowed shield maidens who use Greek gods as weapons.
Sophitia: Gods....please forgive me....*kneels down to pray*
Kitana[]
Wiz: 10,000 years ago, Edenia had lost its 10th Mortal Kombat Tournament to Outworld, and as such, the evil emperor Shao Kahn had merged it with Outworld and claimed its king's wife Sindel for himself. However, his new bride had an heir, a child named Kitana.
Boomstick: Because Shao Kahn doesn't do parenting, he was ready to kill the little egg until Sindel convinced him that she could be useful to him. And surprisingly enough, Shao Kahn kept his word, even after Sindel's death.
Wiz: Of course though, Shao Kahn was far from a loving father. He abused her in many different ways despite letting her maintain status as Princess of Outworld. But one thing he did gift her with is knowledge in the fighting arts, as he raised her from birth to be a vicious assassin.
Boomstick: Cuz what else would you be if you got adopted by a warlord?
Wiz: Kitana uses her trademark steel fans as her primary weapon. These fans are not only capable of slicing appendages of any creature clean off, but she can conduct minor magical abilities with them, like creating small tornados to lift opponents off the ground as well as generate flight for a short amount of time.
Boomstick: Allowing her to use moves such as ramming her ass right into her opponent's face! Hey Wiz I'm gonna go challenge Kitana to a fight, I'll be right back.
Wiz: You're not doing anything. Anyway, Kitana's fans also function like boomerangs, as she can call them back to her hands right after throwing them, seemingly from any distance. But if she needs to get her hands dirty, she is also skilled in hand-to-hand combat, utilizing palm strikes and swift, elegant kicks.
Boomstick: Oh and for some reason she also uses one of Mileena's sais, which gives her minor teleportation and a nifty projectile if she ever wants to mix things up.
Wiz: Kitana is tough enough to beat Mileena and Shang Tsung back to back, even lifting the latter in the air with one hand, scored victories over Baraka and Kollector, can kill several Netherrealm imps at one time, and most importantly, defeated Shao Kahn and slashed his eyes out.
Boomstick: The sweet smell of revenge. And as a Revenant, she cleanly decapitated Moloch and kicked Kung Jin into a bell hard enough to ring it. Oh and she probably tanked having Shinnok's castle collapse on her.
Wiz: It's confusing because Kitana and Liu Kang are shown to be standing outside the rubble instead of climbing out of it, leaving the possibility that they escaped before it exploded. But given the time between it exploding and the fact that both of them were beaten up by Cassie Cage beforehand, it's unlikely. Even still, Kitana is not invincible, and in fact has died more than a few times. She also doesn't wear any armor, leaving her very little protection in spite of her toughness.
Boomstick: Oh well, any Mortal Kombat character worth their salt has been felled at least once. I'd still bend a knee for Kitana any day.
Kitana: I will return Queen Sheeva, with the Tarkatans at my side. Together we will march on Shao Kahn.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set. It's time to settle this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLLLLLLLLLLE!
Fight[]
Kitana is sitting on her throne in the Koliseum, overseeing a Mortal Kombat tournament. The fight is drawing to a close, and the winner is about to finish his opponent.
Kitana: FINISH HIM!
The fighter chooses to spare his opponent's life, and Kitana declares him the winner as the fighters disperse. Then, a mysterious vortex emerges in the field, and out steps Sophitia.
Sophitia: What? What is this place?
Kitana: Announce yourself trespasser.
Sophitia: Of course, I am Sophitia Alexandra, servant of Hephaestus.
Kitana: I am Kitana Kahn of Outworld. Why come to this realm?
Sophitia: It was purely accidental, your Highness. I'm on a quest.
Kitana: Intentional or not, you have intruded on a Mortal Kombat tournament. For this, you are to duel me. Do you accept the right of defense through kombat?
Sophitia: If it's the only way, I must.
FIGHT!
Kitana charges at Sophitia and slashes at her with a fan, but Sophitia raises her shield and blocks it. Kitana tries this a few more times but to no avail. Sophitia bashes Kitana with her shield and uppercuts her into the air, bringing her down with a fast combo of kicks. Kitana stands back up and tries to stab Sophitia but she dodges it. Sophitia goes to cut Kitana but Kitana deflects it with her fan. They begin clashing blades until Kitana whisks her fans and creates a small tornado, lifting Sophitia off the ground. Kitana follows up with a spinning kick and knocks Sophitia back. Kitana throws her fans at Sophitia, which she deflects with her shield. Kitana luckily catches them in time but takes a cut from Sophitia's sword. Sophitia follows up with a spin kick, laying Kitana out. Sophitia attempts to drive her sword into Kitana but the Empress rolls out of the way and lands a nasty slice on Sophitia's mid-section.
Kitana: You're good. Show me more.
Sophitia goes for a low slash, which Kitana jumps over. Kitana hits Sophitia with some quick kicks, and Sophitia returns the favor with a hard kick in the groin. Kitana hunches over in pain, and Sophitia lands a hurricanrana on her. Sophitia is now kneeling on Kitana, but Kitana kicks Sophitia hard in the back, breaking the hold. Both fighters scramble to their feet.
Sophitia: Gods, empower me!
Sophitia's sword emanates electricity as she points it at Kitana, and a lightning bolt strikes the Empress enough to stun her. Sophitia approaches her and goes all out, hitting Kitana with electrifying sword strikes. Kitana takes a moment to collect herself.
Kitana: Those are not normal weapons.
Sophitia: Hephaestus's gift. Impressed?
Kitana: Yes, now that I know what I'm dealing with here.
Kitana draws her sai and shoots it at Sophitia, but Sophitia catches it with her shield. Kitana sinks into a portal in the ground and teleports from behind Sophitia, hitting her with a flying kick from behind. Kitana whisks her fans and lifts Sophitia with a tornado again, but this time jumps in the air and flies into the shield maiden by hitting her with her rear. On the ground, Sophitia swings at Kitana but Kitana swipes Sophitia's sword and knocks it out of her hand. She then does the same with her shield, completely weapon stripping her.
Sophitia: Oh no!
Kitana closes her fan and stabs Sophitia in the stomach, and Sophitia yelps in pain. Kitana moves behind her, closes her other fan, digs into Sophitia's throat, and simultaneously opens the fan lodged in her stomach and slits her throat. Sophitia lifelessly collapses face first into the ground.
Kitana: That was fantastic.
K.O.!
Results[]
Boomstick: Did...did she just make a pun? HEY QUIT STEALING MY THUNDER!
Wiz: Sophitia's bravado and determination allowed her to hold her own in this battle, but Kitana's superior training and wealth of experience saw her through to the end.
Boomstick: Yeah unlike Kitana, Sophie wasn't really bred for war. And much of her combat experience came after she was dubbed Hephaestus's personal hit-girl.
Wiz: That said, Sophitia wasn't totally outgunned here. Her enchanted weaponry kept Kitana on her toes, as Kitana doesn't have any notable experience squaring off with holy weapons. However, once Kitana figured out what she was up against, she was able to work around it.
Boomstick: Kitana's fans were also much more reliable. Those things could slice through pretty much any material you put before them. Meanwhile Sophitia's original sword and shield broke on their first day out. And sure the replicas functioned just the same, but the fans clearly did their job better.
Wiz: Speaking of fans, Kitana's weaponry also gave her the benefit of range whereas Sophitia had to rely on getting close to the opponent. Even if Sophitia could block the projectiles, the shield won't protect her from every angle, especially not from various teleport kicks.
Boomstick: Yeah but why should that matter when your sword can call upon Greek gods? Couldn't Sophie just overpower Kitana?
Wiz: Perhaps but that would call into question the maximum potential of Sophitia's Omega Sword. We already speculated she utilizes Athena's war prowess, Hermes's speed, Artemis's fertility, and Kratos's strength, and a little of bit of Zeus's lightning bolts, but it's possible that Hephaestus made sure to regulate the Omega Sword's conduction of the gods in order to stop the sword's power from becoming uncontainable. And even then, Sophitia has never relied on the gods for anything more than a brief power-up.
Boomstick: Even if Sophitia could just be a jerk and try to overwhelm Kitana, it'd be pretty unlikely that she could be able to direct all that power in a way that wouldn't also endanger herself.
Wiz: Kitana also has a much better track record of dealing with powerful opponents. Her victories over the likes of Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn prove she possesses great strength. Sophitia on the other hand nearly died fighting Cervantes, and wouldn't have survived if not for Taki's last minute intervention.
Boomstick: Tactics were another big play. Kitana is an assassin while Sophitia was tasked with purifying the Malfested instead of outright slaying them. And I know what you're gonna ask, but what about Revenant Kitana? Well Sophitia could purify her Revenant, and while that'd nerf Kitana's physical abilities a little bit, that's really all that would happen.
Wiz: Kitana's skills in assassination meant she knew of bountiful ways to kill quickly and efficiently, and helped in disarming Sophitia's weaponry to secure the kill and seal the shield maiden's fate.
Boomstick: Sophitia has almost no experience fighting hand-to-hand, as she was trained in the Athenian sword-and-shield style. And let's be honest, Sophie never had a chance against Kitana unarmed.
Wiz: Overall, Sophitia tried her best, but she just didn't have any meaningful advantage over the Edenian Royal in the squared circle.
Boomstick: It's too bad Sophitia is dead, she's gonna miss the fan-fare.
Wiz: The winner is Kitana.
