• The connections between Skips and Aki:
  • Both are two men who were once normal people. One day, however, a certain being (Klorgbane the Destroyer and the Gun Devil) killed their loved ones, and as such, both made a deal with higher entities (Guardians of Eternal Youth and Makima) to fight and protect their worlds from otherworldly evils in order to ultimately defeat the ones who took their loved ones away from them.
  • At the beginning of their series, both are seen as the wise, experienced one within their groups, being tasked to usually help a duo consisting of a horny, energetic slacker (Mordecai and Denji) and the dumber yet energetic but more egotistical individual (Rigby and Power).
  • While they showed no interest in them at first, as they would help them in their tasks only to further their own end goal/because they were told to do so, they eventually begin to warm up to them and treat them as family, loving them like their original loved ones.
  • The death of their love interest (Mona and Himeno) helped them bond more with their families. Said girls also changed them into giving a new outlook on life, and they even inspired them to take up their own habits (Skips skipping and Aki smoking cigarettes).
  • As a bit of a contrast, they confronted their killers again via having to be forced to do so under their agreement with a higher power. However, whilst Aki died to the Gun Devil and is used by it being forced to fight his family, Skips lost but managed to overcome it with the help of his family.
