Description[]

Marvel vs. Watchmen. Unfathomable power wielded by two former scientists transformed them into strange humanoids.

Introduction[]

Wiz: The term OP, as informal as it is, can actually be a pretty good way to describe a person so powerful, it's ridiculous.

Boomstick: Like the Silver Surfer, the Herald of Galactus form Marvel comics.

Wiz: And Doctor Manhattan, the nuclear physicist turned God from Watchmen.

Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Silver Surfer[]

Wiz: Before the existence of our universe, there existed another, which itself came to an end when our universe came into existence with the Big Bang. From that previous universe was only one survivor, the one who would become known as Galactus.

Boomstick: Surviving the destruction of his universe must have taken a toll on the guy, because he began to stress eat. But whilst most people stress eat with chocolates or candy, Galactus eats entire planets.

Wiz: He's not stress eating, he literally needs to eat planets to survive. And in spite of there being a lot of them in the universe, they were fairly spaced apart, no pun intended. So he decided he needed a little help.

Boomstick: Enter the planet Zenn-La, home to an alien man named Norrin Radd, an astronomer who longed for some great adventure.

Wiz: Little did he know that opportunity would come when Galactus decided his planet was next on his eating list. Wishing to save his planet from certain destruction, he cut a deal with Galactus.

Boomstick: In exchange for his services, Galactus would leave Norrin's planet alone. What's more, Galactus actually kept his word.

Wiz: Which meant Norrin had to as well. And so Galactus transformed him in his herald and from that day on, Norrin was the Silver Surfer.

  • Background
    • Real Name: Norrin Radd
    • Age: Billions of years
    • Height: 6'4
    • Herald of Galactus
    • Former astronomer
    • Less laid back than an actual surfer

Boomstick: The Silver Surfer's new job came with a simple object; find planets for Galactus to eat. You know, like a waiter at a restaurant who tells the diner what choices they have, even when they have the menu right in front of them.

Wiz: To find these planets, the Silver Surfer was gifted a device that ended up giving him his namesake, his board. With the ability to move well past the speed of light, it was perfect for allowing the Surfer to zoom around the universe.

Boomstick: Until he came across an all too well-known planet called Earth.

Wiz: There he ran into four certain super powered individuals who had what Norrin never did; the guts to stand against Galactus without compromise. This inspired the Silver Surfer to rebel against his master, ensuring the survival of Earth.

Boomstick: But you don't mess with someone like Galactus and get away with it completely, because the Big G trapped Silver Surfer on Earth using an energy barrier. But he eventually got out and set about roaming the universe on his own terms.

Wiz: As we've said before, the universe is a big place and thus filled with all sorts of powerful beings.

Boomstick: That was no issue for the Silver Surfer though, thanks to the fact that Galactus implanted within him a sliver of the Power Cosmic.

Wiz: And thanks to this, the Silver Surfer is easily one of the most powerful beings in the universe.

Boomstick: With more powers than you can shake an Ultimate Nullifier at.

  • Powers and Arsenal
    • Godly physical abilities
    • Can see past, present and future
    • Cosmic energy manipulation
    • Matter manipulation
    • Regeneration
    • Atom manipulation
    • And more!
    • Board
      • Faster than light travel
      • Responds to his thoughts
      • Capable of time travel
      • Traps people within it

Wiz: First and foremost, the Silver Surfer possesses extraordinary subatomic molecular manipulation and control over cosmic energies. In Layman's terms this means the Surfer can essentially manipulate nearly any aspect of creation.

Boomstick: He can create breathable atmospheres, transmute matter, create black holes and manipulate a person's biology or atomic makeup, or even his own.

Wiz: This has allowed him to reassemble himself from being blown apart on an atomic level. This means that after getting hit with an attack so power it blew his atomic makeup apart, he simply pulled himself back together. Even when someone simply tries erasing him from existence all-together, the Surfer simply ignored the attempt.

Boomstick: And we aren't even scratching the surface. He can see the past, present and future all at the same time, is capable of tracking atoms across vast distances in space, once shrunk himself down so small that atoms were as big as solar systems in comparison and can even travel through time in some cases.

Wiz: And remember his board. Not only can it go over the speed of light and react to his thoughts but it can also be used as a pocket dimension to trap people within.

Boomstick: So unless you want to spend the rest of your existence having a shiny surfer dude standing over your face, don't go messing with the Silver Surfer, because it's a fight you're not likely to win.

Wiz: Considering who he's gone up against that's no understatement.

  • Feats
    • Rebuilt a replica of Thor's hammer
    • Destroyed an entire solar system
    • Escaped from Mephisto's realm
    • Traveled 500,000 light-years in seconds
    • Can break Vibranium
    • Defeated Galactus, Thor, Hulk

Boomstick: He's battled against Hulk, Thor and even the devil himself, Mephisto.

Wiz: Impressive, considering that this is the same Mephisto who could fight evenly with Galactus himself. And in his battle against the being known as Uni-Lord, the Surfer pulled out all the souls he contained which ended up producing an explosion powerful enough to wipe out an entire solar system.

Boomstick: He's broken vibranium walls, hurt She-Hulk when she punched him and can even, get his, smell life. No livings things like grass or fish, but the actually essence of life itself. How can someone even do that? It's impossible.

Wiz: Have you not been paying attention to anything the Silver Surfer can do?

Boomstick: Sure I have, I just find the idea of smelling life itself to be really weird. But I guess all surfers are like that in a way.

Wiz: The Silver Surfer has even done battle against fellow users of the Power Cosmic, like Terrax and even Galactus himself. But speaking of the Power Cosmic, don't forget that without it, the Silver Surfer is still just a man. An exceptionally intelligent man who can understand complex information it would usually take millennium to convey to any one else, but still a man.

Boomstick: Plus he doesn't always make use of all his powers or even fight at full strength at most of the time. But when you can destroy solar systems as a byproduct of a battle, you'd probably want to be a little careful.

Wiz: Whether he's the Herald of Galactus or defender of the Universe, the Silver Surfer will always travel the cosmos, showing just what kind of power he has at his board.

Doctor Manhattan[]

Wiz: In the wake of Second World War, Jon Osterman was pushed by his father into studying the art of watchmaking, as he had done so before.

Boomstick: Guess he already was a sort of Watchman, even before you-know-what.

Wiz: But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Yes, his father pushed him to study watchmaking but not for long. With the emergence of sciences, Jon's father's stance on his son's future career changed, telling him he should instead pursue a career in science.

  • Background
    • Real Name: Jon Osterman
    • Height: 6'5
    • Age: 56
    • Nuclear physicist
    • Member of the Minutemen
    • Clothing shrank over time

Boomstick: Yeesh, I've heard of parents trying to live through their children but at least stick to one path pal. Anyway, Jon eventually became a nuclear physicist working at Gila Flats Labs, working to understand the universal forces that kept the universe together.

Wiz: But whilst there Jon ended up getting trapped within a chamber. Unable to escape, Jon's entire body was shredded by an intrinsic field generator. Naturally, he was presumed death. But death was not the end for Osterman. Turns out having his entire atomic being shredded apart in fact transcended Jon into another level of existence.

Boomstick: And after spending some time building himself a new physique, complete with way too many abs and an absurd amount of power.

Wiz: With a literal god on their side, the US Government quickly recruited Jon, giving him the role of superhero and the name Doctor Manhattan. And thanks to his new level of existence, Doctor Manhattan possesses vast manipulation over atomic energies.

  • Powers
    • Atomic manipulation
    • Duplication
    • Sees the past, present and future
    • Reality warping
    • Regeneration/Invulnerability
    • Flight
    • Intangibility
    • Teleportation
    • And more!

Boomstick: He can create entire structures out of thin air, pass right through them with intangibility or make them straight up disappear. Oh, and he does this to people as well.

Wiz: He doesn't simply blast them with a force of energy, he actually removes their intrinsic field, meaning there's nothing holding their particles together and thus...

Boomstick: Boom!...stick.

Wiz: Atomic manipulation aside, Doctor Manhattan is also able to view all states of time simultaneously, even that of his own life. He can also travel through time, through dimensions, replicate himself dozens of times and manipulate the fabric of reality itself.

Boomstick: Hey Wiz, haven't you ever tried using your own experiments to try and get the same powers as Doctor Manhattan. I think I've seen a machine similar to his in your lab.

Wiz: Even if I was, it was a once in a trillion chance that Jon ended up with his powers. When the traitorous Ozymandias attempted to blast Doctor Manhattan with a recreation of his experiment to try and kill him, he used his pet tiger as bait. And guess what? The tiger didn't come back. But Doctor Manhattan certainly did, coming back from complete atomic disintegration. With all this power, Doctor Manhattan was easily one of the most powerful beings in existence.

Boomstick: Well duh, nobody else has any powers.

  • Feats
    • Created the New 52
    • More powerful than Mister Mxyzptlk and Darkseid
    • Analyze magic and a Green Lantern Ring
    • Survived being atomically disintegrated
    • Stopped a nuclear apocalypse
    • Defeated Pandora, Owlman, Metron, Zoom

Wiz: Not in the Watchman universe itself but Doctor Manhattan eventually came into contact with the DC universe . In a showing of near absolute power, he ended up creating the New 52 by removing several years from the new timeline the Flash created when he reset the universe.

Boomstick: He's even stated to be even more powerful than Mister Mxyzptlk and a greater threat than even Darkseid. You know, the guy who can destroy all of creation just by bringing his natural form out of its resident dimension.

Wiz: In one battle against the entire Justice League, Doctor Manhattan made use of his powers and intelligence to counter the numerous powers used against him, including magic and the Emotional Spectrum used by the Green Lanterns.

Boomstick: So he can bully the guy with the Omega Effect, manhandle wizards and witches and rip the rings of off emotional weaponizing space policemen. Seriously, is there anything that Doctor Manhattan can't beat.

Wiz: Well, tachyon particles, theoretical faster-than-light particles, can impede his ability to see into the future. But Doctor Manhattan's biggest drawback to his powers is that they have caused him to become severely detached from humanity, which has led him to do some...less than heroic stuff. But when the time came, Doctor Manhattan found inspiration to believe in humanity again upon witnessing the compassion of a certain Man of Steel.

Boomstick: Whatever the blue glowing nudist god sets his sights on next, you can bet that he's gonna leave one heck of an impact.

Interlude[]

Wiz: Alright the combatants are set, time to end this debate once and for all.

Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!

The Battle[]

The Silver Surfer cruised on his board over the planet Earth.

Silver Surfer: This planet seems a good source of fulfillment for Galactus' appetite.

?: This I cannot allow.

The Surfer turned in surprise to see Doctor Manhattan floating behind him (thankfully in a speedo).

Doctor Manhattan: As much as I cannot emphasize with the people on this planet, I will not them be needlessly destroyed.

He raised his arm and pointed his hand at the Silver Surfer as he spoke. The Surfer turned to face him and raised his own hand.

FIGHT!

KA-CHOW!

In a single instance, the Silver Surfer and Doctor Manhattan had blasted each other with a force so potent, their entire atomic formations had been scattered around the atmosphere of Earth. However, as soon as it had happened, every one of their molecules came back together to reform into their humanoid forms. In spite of having just been blown apart, both were completely unphased.

Doctor Manhattan: Well, as it seems you be willing to listen to reason, maybe the person who were conversating about will.

He turned around and started to levitate upwards at high speeds towards the second presence he could detect. The Silver Surfer wasn't going to simply allow this however and set off after him on his board. Soon, the two had left Earth far behind and were zooming above Mars. Manhattan felt the Surfer coming after him and twitched one of his fingers, creating behind him a wall of night-indestructible glass formerly made of Mar's dust above a light-year in length. The Surfer merely changed his travel path, zooming to the very end of the wall in a instance and flying around it straight towards the still flying Manhattan.

Doctor Manhattan: You cannot outmaneuver what I can see.

The Doctor immediately constructed another light-year long wall of indestructible glass and sent it zooming forward to slam against the first made wall, evidently trapping and crushing the Silver Surfer into nothing. But Doctor Manhattan sighed in annoyance and looked up to see his opponent, having outmaneuvered the crushing clamp from the top and was now zooming straight towards him, flinging his hand forward to send out a bolt of searing hot cosmic energy, which struck Manhattan directly in the phase. However, he remained unmoved, letting the attack naturally fade away, but realized that he had lost sight of the Surfer, before the mentioned individual grabbed him by the back of the head as he zoomed towards the surface of Mars. As his board carried him around the planet, the Surfer grinded Manhattan's head against the rocky terrain, leaving a deep trench patterned in a spiral across Mars. As soon as the pattern had been unknowingly created, the Surfer lifted up Manhattan, who still sported a passive look and struck him with a punch that smashed him straight through the Red Planet and out the other side.

Peering through the crater left by his attack, the Silver Surfer saw that Doctor Manhattan was still in his normal standing position. Undisturbed, the Surfer flew down through the hole straight towards Manhattan, giving the appearance that he was intending to ram straight into him. However, just before making contact, he vanished form sight. Doctor Manhattan scanned left and right before sighing in resignation. Suddenly, he lashed out backwards with a fist, catching the Surfer in the face as he reappeared behind him and knocking him backwards and off his board. But even as he flew backwards, the Surfer commanded his board to return to him and he planted his feet back on its surface.

Doctor Manhattan: As I told you, you cannot outmaneuver me. I can see whatever you're about to do.

Silver Surfer: Maybe you can, but within your mind I can see that there is something that blinds you to what I will do.

The Surfer raised his hand and snapped his fingers and Doctor Manhattan instantly felt his ability to see into the future switch off.

Doctor Manhattan: Ah, tachyon particles. Clever.

He turned back around to face the Surfer, but found that he had vanished. He reappeared to deliver a powerful strike to Manhattan, sending him flying back further into space. Just as he brought himself to a stop, the Doctor looked up to see that the Surfer had extended his arms out before bringing them back together. On either side of Manhattan, two gigantic moons, in the grip of the Silver Surfer's powerful telekinesis, enclosed on Doctor Manhattan, crushing into each other in a shower of spacial debris.

But suddenly Doctor Manhattan was in front of the Surfer with a raised hand. Out of it came a blast of energy which the Surfer brought up his board in order to reflect it towards Jupiter, blowing a massive chunk out of the planet. As he was holding off the blast, however, the Surfer failed to notice that a duplicate of Doctor Manhattan right behind him until it grabbed him by the neck and hurled him off his board and into the punch of another Doctor Manhattan duplicate, which then sent him to get grabbed by the neck by a third Doctor Manhattan with an energy burst. The other two Manhattans floated over to their brethren holding the Silver Surfer.

Doctor Manhattan: This is now over.

The three Manhattans began the process of erasing the Silver Surfer from existence but found that nothing was working. The one holding the Surfer prisoner titled his head in confusion.

Doctor Manhattan: Strange.

The Surfer's board suddenly sliced straight through the duplicate, freeing the Surfer who touched back down onto his ride before he blasted the other two duplicates, destroying them. The "real" Doctor Manhattan reappeared in front of the Surfer.

Doctor Manhattan: This is starting to become tedious.

Silver Surfer: Then let us end this.

Channeling their respective sources of power around themselves, the two flew forward and collided in a series of massive explosions, causing damage to moons, planets and even several stars as they darted about the universe at over the speed of light. At one point, Doctor Manhattan fired a beam that split a planet in Earth to which the Silver Surfer dodged before he converted a swarm of meteors into iron balls to fire at Doctor Manhattan, who redirected them into a sun.

Again and again Doctor Manhattan and the Surfer collided into each other with auras of power, sending massive ripples throughout space. As they went for one last collision, the Silver Surfer tensed himself to do something.

As Doctor Manhattan drew closer, the Surfer suddenly brought his board upwards and Manhattan glided through its surface and into the pocket dimension within it. Doctor Manhattan looked around his prisoner in surprise as the Surfer hovered in front of the board.

Silver Surfer: This is where it ends.

Doctor Manhattan: Maybe it is. Because I can feel the source of your power within this device of yours.

He raised his hand and parts of the Power Cosmic began to form within it much to the Surfer's shock.

Doctor Manhattan: And now I can analyze it. And use it!

He flexed his hand and a burst of energy radiated out, shattering the board from within. The Surfer covered in eyes at the blinding light that unfolded before seeing Doctor Manhattan back in front of him. Before he could react to defend himself, Doctor Manhattan blasted him with a beam made of his own portion of the Power Cosmic. The Surfer let out a bellow of pain as his own power was used against him, his entire body soon unraveling into nothingness after a moment of the beam blasted his body, leaving Manhattan floating in space at his victory.

KO!

The broken remains of the Surfer's board floated through space as Doctor Manhattan confronted Galactus.

Outcome[]

Boomstick: Hooray, Doctor Manhattan saved the world, and he didn't need to let the bad guy get away with it this time! But in all serious, how on Earth did we come to a conclusion of this? I mean, these two were so ridiculously powerful it didn't seem possible.

Wiz: Finding the upper limits of the power these two possessed wasn't exactly feasible. In fact, both their superpower arsenals were fairly similar. Both could see any moment in time, manipulate the atomic makeup of creation itself and reconstruct themselves from near nothingness. And since the Silver Surfer could prevent himself from being erased from existence, even with the power to erase entire timelines Doctor Manhattan couldn't command him to simply cease existing, whilst the Surfer didn't really have anything in his skill set that could put Manhattan down, not with what he's survived.

Boomstick: So how did one of them win at all?

Wiz: With a very specific showing of power on Doctor Manhattan's part. When the Justice League attacked him, he went up against Zatanna and the Demon and was able to analyze their magical energies to use against them, showing he has the capability to adapt against brand new forms of power. Like the Power Cosmic the Silver Surfer wields.

Boomstick: Especially since the Surfer's board was another way to go about it, like the time he dealt with a Green Lantern's ring, destroying the device to disable the Emotional Spectrum he drew power on.

Wiz: With this ability to manipulate the powers and energies of others, Doctor Manhattan could remove the Surfer's powers and render him vulnerable to being permanently killed. However, there was a possibility that the Silver Surfer could possibly do the same thing, as he could absorb energy to empower himself. But even if he could, Doctor Manhattan would be fast enough to do so first.

Boomstick: As said on Thanos VS Darkseid, the Silver Surfer could cross light-years at 3 trillion times faster than light. But Doctor Manhattan once took out Professor Zoom, who scaling to the Flash Wally West can go at 23 tredecillion times the speed of light. That's 42 zeroes.

Wiz: And far faster than Silver Surfer's best showing of speed. Even if the Silver Surfer deduced and made use of Doctor Manhattan's weakness to tachyon particles, it wouldn't stop Manhattan from being faster than him.

Boomstick: This was a super-difficult dual to deduce, but in due time Doctor Manhattan could spell the doom of the Herald of Galactus. In fact, he made the Silver Surfer look tachyon in comparison.

Wiz: The winner is Doctor Manhattan.

Next Time[]

Armed with swords, armor

And unstoppable rages

Guts vs. Berserker/Lancelot

Trivia[]

  • Connections: Both are former scientists who ended up gaining a vast amount of power, which also transformed them into featureless humanoids. Both have also traveled through space and have also had a history of being weakened by tachyon particles.
  • Animation Style: 2D.
