Shrek vs Chainsaw Man! Trust me, there are some connections here!
Shrek vs Denji is BeautifulDuwaned's second Season 2 episode, featuring Shrek from the eponymous Dreamworks movie franchise, and Denji from Chainsaw Man.
Introduction[]
ROB: Those who have gone on adventures are... very grateful to be able to do so. Whether it's over a love interest, or for strength, it should be noted that it can cause an impact to one's mind.
Game and Watch: Yeah! Now pack that further onto even more tragic-
ROB: Please, we're talking about Shrek here.
Game and Watch: Oh, right! Shrek, the mean, green, scaring machine, from... Shrek.
ROB: And Denji, the Chainsaw man... from Chainsaw Man. Who wrote this?
Game and Watch: Sigh... I'm Mr. Game and Watch, he's ROB, and we're here to research their weapons, armors, and stats, to find out who would win a Death Battle.
Shrek[]
ROB: Somewhere, there exis-
Game and Watch: Somebody once told me, the world was gonna roll me, I ain't the sha-
ROB: Not the time.
Game and Watch: Awe...
ROB: Somewhere, in a fantasy world, exists a swamp home to an ogre, who's scared nearly everyone who's encountered him.
Game and Watch: His name... is Shrek! Yeah, yeah, you've all heard of or watched the movie. He's basically a meme All Star, as you should know, unless you're living under a rock... Or swamp.
ROB: Right. Anyways, Shrek is an extremely scary ogre, causing massive mobs to form just because of him, but once they meet him, well...
Shrek does the iconic 'roar', causing the mob to flinch, awaiting their impending doom.
Shrek: This is the part where you... run away. Game and Watch: Yeah, and he'll even make a suit from your skin, shave your liver, and even squeeze the jelly from your eyes! Pretty funny, I must admit, even though neither me or ROB have those.
ROB: Right... Anyways, Shrek is an extremely powerful ogre. Once, he threw Donkey into space, and even lowballing this to an estimate that he merely reached the Kármán line, it would be worth at least 456 tons of TNT.
Game and Watch: Yeah, and not only is Shrek strong, but he's even more durable! Such as tanking being swung around by Dragon, resulting in a massive fall into a large tower, and being in the middle of a shockwave that could shatter glass and push back people!
ROB: Along with this durability, Shrek has also tanked arrows to his rear with nearly no issue, and even tanks small explosions, rather consistently even.
Game and Watch: Not only is Shrek strong, but he's even got numerous items and abilities fit for combat!... and racing.
Abilities[]
- Giant Ham: Stuns enemies Shrek hits with it
- Shrek Wand: A wand that summons green gas that appears around Shrek.
- Floating Air Mines: Shrek can shoot mines with this.
- Hammer of Smiting: A hammer that can 'smite' opponents.
- Pot O' Gold Grenades: Gold coins come out of this pot when thrown.
- Fireball Wand: Shoots fireballs.
- Gravity Wand: Opponents can be lifted and Shrek can move them a around a smash them into walls.
- Ice Wand: Enemies shot with this wand get frozen.
- Beehive: A thrown item that makes it harder for those hit by it to control themselves.
- Magnet: Drags opponents to Shrek.
- Pirate Cannon: Grants Shrek the ability to fire ricocheting cannonballs.
- Fairy Bazooka: Shoots homing fairies.
- Rocket Sauce: Shrek now moves faster and attacks faster.
- Max Slam Juice: Shrek can unleash a Slam Attack, regardless of how much Slamergy he has.
- Invulnerability Potion: Shrek becomes invincible.
- Mystery Mix: A potion that constantly changes to all other potions and the effect depends on when you grab it.
- Viking Horned Helmet: The player Slams with every hit.
- Dragon Mask: A mask that breathes fire.
- King's Crown: Enemies will be incapable of movement when Shrek equips this.
- Mirror Mask: All shots and projectiles are deflected from Shrek.
- Pill Bug Ball: Turns Shrek into a ball so he can roll into the opponents.
- Dragon Sword: A sword which shoots fire.
- Unicorn Mask: The wearer runs faster and is stronger.
Game and Watch: Shrek has many gadgets at his disposal, such as the Giant Ham! A massive piece of ham that allows Shrek to stun his enemiehe's with, or the Gravity Wand, an item Shrek can use to lift his opponent's through manipulating their gravity.
ROB: While Shrek does have numerous abilities, some of them do turn out to be useless once-in-a-while, but not all of them are bad.
Game and Watch: Yeah, and at his disposal, he's even got some of his innate abilities, such as his mean-'n-green looks, or his farts, which can essentially kill those he farts at, and in fact, Shrek even ate a thunderbolt once, scaring away both the lightning and rain! Not only is Shrek scary, but he's smart too.
ROB: He can make plans on the fly, such as when he made a plan to defeat Dragon by chaining her up, and can fight with others for prolonged periods of time, even in hand-to-hand combat, once fighting off nearly an entire room of presumably trained knights in order to get to Fiona, and has consistently fought with them, too, as a wrestler and alongside Donkey.
Game and Watch: Even while Shrek is noticeably strong, he's... not the best around. While Shrek is a great fighter, he's not really a fighter. Sure, he's been in many fights, yes, but he's mostly focused upon his self, and when he's stuck, he's not going to really attempt anything else to get free, as seen in Shrek: Forever After.
ROB: And, at least in the first movie, Shrek was selfish, wanting to keep his swamp to himself, and only wanted to get his adventure over with, though this did change.
Game and Watch: But remember, ogres are like onions! They've got many layers.
Shrek: Alright fella, let's crash this party!
Knight 1: Arm the catapult!
Denji[]
ROB: A young male known as Denji, living such a... less than average life. With massive debt to the Yakuza, and being mostly uneducated, he had to make ends meet by selling even some of his organs, and most notably, his job of hunting devils. These aren't your average devils, they're really just-
Game and Watch: Not yet! Anyways, while they aren't the average devil, he didn't have much trouble dealing with them, due to having Pochita by his side! He's a really good boy, and a chainsaw pup, who'd help him hunt down and kill these devils... Until he got brutally slaughtered alongside them by the Yakuza.
ROB: While this might seem like Denji was already dead, he wasn't. Instead, Pochita, being the Chainsaw Devil, decided to allow Denji to live again, by making him as a "heart", allowing Denji, with a cord from his chest, to become the Chainsaw Man.
Game and Watch: HOLY SHIT!
ROB: Yeah... Anyways, he slaughtered everything he could in the building, and with a loss of blood, he'd fall unconscious, unable to do anything, but proceeded to wake up in the arms of... Makima. Yeah, that one woman who everyone likes.
Game and Watch: You don't even have a taste in women. He'd wake up essentially in Makima's arms, and she'd give him two choices. Die like a regular devil, or join her and her devil-hunting organization. Of course, who'd say no to someone like Makima?
ROB: Me.
Game and Watch: You... don't count.
ROB: Rude. Anyways, he joined the organization, and gained a few friends. This allowed Denji to have a somewhat normal life, at least, though he does have a pretty difficult job. Of course, Denji can also transform into the Chainsaw Man, if that wasn't already obvious.
Game and Watch: Yeah! In this form, Denji gains a massive amplification in his stats, such as this form allowing him to tank attacks that can bring down buildings, and even gets flung through numerous them with essentially no damage! Not only is he strong in physical strength, but he's also strong in even his durability.
ROB: Most notably, Denji can technically tank his body being cut in half, or just parts of it, and via consuming blood, which is essentially the "fuel for his chainsaw", he can regenerate these parts of his body back, and even when he was a regular human, he could tank a gunshot to the head. Though, even while this is an impressive durabilty for him, Denji... usually relies on it. That being said, Denji is still impressive, and he even has many ways to deal with this in the first place.
Game and Watch: Yeah! But before we continue, Denji has one more trick up his sleeve, known as the CHAINSAW DEVIL!!! Very threatening, huh? After getting pissed at Makima, he just decided to... become it, haha.
ROB: Well, essentially, yes. While he didn't want to eat Makima in this form, as his consumption can essentially erase the devils who embody fear and concepts, he just... ate her. As a human, not a devil.
Game and Watch: It's confusing, but just trust us! Due to the Control Devil still existing, but not Makima herself, she got reincarnated, basically.
ROB: While that seems like a good place to conclude, we still need to go onto Denji's abilities.
Game and Watch: OH, right!
Abilities[]
- Chainsaws: Denji's primary weapon and ability, he can essentially create chainsaws on his body to use as weapons, on his hands and on his head.
- Chains: Denji is also capable of forming chains in order to move around quickly or restrain others.
- Blood Absorption: Denji, finally, is capable of absorbing blood, in order to keep up his regeneration, vitality, or weapon usage.
- Fear Empowerment: The more feared their concept is, the stronger a demon will become.
- Devil Consumption: He can consume a Devil, which embody the fear of objects. He can also consume one's physical body to keep their devil name intact
ROB: Denji, primarily, uses chains and chainsaws within combat, whether as a weapon, or utility. While they are rather potent in combat, they do come from his own blood, using it as a fuel akin to an actual chainsaw, so he must consume the blood of others, or he'll... die. Yeah.
Game and Watch: And, of course, as a devil, Denji is empowered by when people fear chainsaws, like me!
ROB: Yes, yes. And his final ability is the consumption of devils, something he can use to basically eat a devil, who embody the fear of objects, also known as, conceptual beings.
Game and Watch: And while Denji is rather potent with this, his main attribute is his high skill! He can use chains, axes, hammers, you name it, all with no issue.
ROB: Of course, with all of this in mind, there's one thing you should be wary of when facing the Chainsaw Man; The revving you hear is just a few moments before your death.
Chainsaw Man is shown decapitating and murdering numerous people.
Intermission[]
ROB: Oh, good. Now that the combatants are set, it-
Game and Watch: Finally! It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!
DEATH BATTLE![]
Pre-Fight[]
The camera opens to a quiet scene, filled with trees and greenery. The crunches of leave is heard as a blonde boy is seen walking through the forest, wearing a white, although ragged suit. His blonde, messy hair and tired eyes made him quite noticeable within the scene. Looking around, he sighs rather loudly, and attempts fixing his clothing, that was previously torn by a tree branch. It wasn't a smart move to have torn his suit, but he would hopefully get a replacement. Rather exhausted from the work he did today, he nearly collapsed on the ground as he went to take a seat, wiping his eyes. Of course, it was obvious that this was the Chainsaw Man himself, Denji.
Deeper in the forest, though, was a swamp, and another person was seen. This... green humanoid had his back turned, stretching a bit. Turning around, he scratched his head, revealing it to be Shrek, and the ogre was confused. Currently, Fiona and his kids were missing, something he was quite unaware of why this had been the case, but he didn't let this bother him much. He shook his head, looking cautiously around, since this was something Fiona hadn't told him of, especially of a disappearance with his kids, and had set off to look for her.
As he entered past the trees, he casually walked around a few tree branches that were in the way. This forest was odd, nothing like the many trees he had near his swamp, and this was a place he knew like the back of his hand. He'd doubt that Rumpelstiltskin was playing games here, especially since he didn't remember making any deals with the stupid midget, but regardless, he was going to find Fiona, and his babies. From his speed, he was already well deep within the forest, and still looking around, confused as why this path had taken so long. There was no way he had been walking in a loop, although, he recognized one of the tree branches.
Inspecting it, there was a piece of torn cloth on it, and of a white shirt, although, it was very dirty, presumably with mud. Whoever was wearing this suit, though, was likely the person who had taken Fiona and his children, so he looked very carefully along the trees.
Denji, upon hearing louder crunches of leaves, looking from behind the tree. There was a large... creature, with what had looked like horns, although they portruded from the top of it's head, and were flat at the end. While he wasn't able to identify it's face, this was... likely a Devil, actually. Though he had been here to look for Nayuta after she had wandered inside with one of the dogs she'd found, and it was completely unknown whether or not this demon had anything to do with it, but it was likely.
Getting up slowly, to not make a sound through crushing the foilage, Denji stepped to the side, but would have tripped due to his leg being caught in one of the bushes, alerting the demonic creature. It turned around, and it was... seemingly menacing, as he stared up to him, but this didn't stop Denji from rolling to the side, reaching under his shirt. This confused the being, seemingly, but seeing this as an intent of attacking him, he rushed over, attempting to hit them before he could pull on his cord.
FIGHT![]
Before Denji could quickly deal with the thing, it delivered a kick right to Denji's side, causing him to grunt in pain as he let go of the cord. As the ogre went for another attack, Denji rolled again to the side, and got up as quickly as he could. Hopping back, as the devil watched, he withdrew a small hatchet. He hadn't used this in a while, but it was still with him, so he had to make sure of it some how.
As Shrek watched the apparent peasant take out an axe, he had rushed over, grabbing the wrist that held the weapon, trying to take it from him, but before he could deliver a punch to stun them, the weapon was seemingly thrown from his hand, hitting Shrek in the arm. While it didn't do much, it made a small cut, but this allowed Shrek to be caught off-guard, checking the tear in his clothes. As he was though, the peasant stepped back a bit, and brought his hand closer to some sort of cord that bulged through the torn shirt. Suddenly, in a seemingly bloody explosion, all Shrek could hear was mechanical revving.
"Raghh.." The being growled, though this was barely heard under the sound of it's chainsaws, as it dashed forward. Shrek was forced to grab onto the arms of the monster, trying to stay away from the one stuck out from it's head, and holding back their arms. Before the monster was able to swing downwards with it's head to presumably cut the ogre in half, Shrek kicked him right in the knee, and then allowed Shrek to withdraw his own weapon, a large piece of ham.
Dashing forward, the large ogre reeled back the large piece of ham, and began bludgeoning the monster with the ham, stunning him with each attack, and then delivering a single punch to the gut of the being. This barely phased it, outside of the forced dazing from the weapon, and Shrek wanted to keep it that way, but as he went for another strike, the ogre was struck instead, being thrown a few meters into the air behind him.
Shrek proceeded to land on his feet, and while the monster attempted to fire a chain at Shrek, he had equipped some form of mask, and the chain was instantly reflected back towards them. Rushing over again, Shrek began beating on them with his ham once more, finding it to be the safest way to deal with them.
Pure bloodlust.
As the being attempted to beat on him, Chainsaw Man rarely felt anything, outside of the stun effect, but he was incapable of movement due to his own chains wrapped around him, something he continuously attempted to break through, even if that were to possibly damage him. Even with this in mind, he realized something. Allowing this being to beat on him for a few seconds, he suddenly sidestepped, and crouched down. Quickly, he tackled the "other Devil", causing the chains to finally retract as he untangled them.
Now that he was untangled, he began attempting to cut them, causing the green creature's clothes to rip and open wounds in it's body, and reeling his foot back again, he kicked them in the stomach, causing him to let out a groan.
"Oh.." It winced in pain, and this allowed him to take the ham from the ogre, before shredding it with his chainsaws.
"NO MORE!" Chainsaw Man spoke, making sure he wasn't able to retrieve back the annoying weapon.
This angered the ogre, and he immediately let out a loud roar.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP!?" Shrek yelled rather loudly, causing the ground to shake, and the trees wobble in fear. He was this scary, and this caused the other to be scared as well, although not as much, and this allowed Shrek to take out a massive cannon, and aimed it at the creature.
Firing it with a loud "boom", it nearly hit them before missing due to them sidestepping, and it allowed the Devil to have ran towards the ogre, but before he got close enough, Shrek hopped into the air, and the cannonball collided right with the head of the other monster, launching him farther and right into numerous trees. This gave Shrek opportunity, with the cannon still in his hands, to fire a few more ricocheting shots towards the direction the other had been going in, knocking down numerous trees as they rebounded between each one.
As it continued, all three cannon balls collided with the being, launching him a bit farther, and this gave Shrek time to walk behind a tree. As he ran around, revealing the disguised Swamp Beast. Patting it's rear, it suddenly began running forward towards the direction the monster was sent, and rammed right into it.
As Denji was hit by the beast that the "Devil" had been riding, he was launched upwards, but this allowed him time to reorientate himself, crossing the chainsaws together, making a loud noise as they collided. As he fell back down, he landed right on the devil's head, and jumped behind him, going for a killing blow against his back, but this forced it to jump off the beast, as Denji began cutting it into pieces and severing it apart.
This caused the ogre to look in fear, strengthening the Chainsaw Man slightly as he ran forward. Bringing down the chainsaw, the "Devil" was forced to block it with one of his arms, causing the chainsaw to slowly dig in and cut against his flesh. The other "Devil" growled, before it's fist reeled back and hit him in the gut, but it was nearly unaffected by it. Groaning, although seemingly unaffected thus far by the Chainsaw Man's attack, it began repeatedly punching them, even though it was useless.
Though, what he didn't predict was it's attack being charged, and slamming it's fist into Denji's chest, creating a large shockwave that shook the trees nearby and broke through more of the trees behind him.
Shrek had been able to get off his "SLAM" attack, due to how much Slamergy he had gained up until this point, and then proceeded to dash forward and grab the monster by it's leg. Before it could attack further, Shrek had thrown it upwards into the air, and instantly, a spiked helmet appeared on the ogre's head. Jumping up in the air, he began doing a few air-dashes to gain height and mobility, but as he got close enough, his fists began beating on the creature, in a barrage. Through the Viking helmet, each of these attacks were charged with Slamergy, causing the devil's body to vibrate, and putting his fists together, he slammed both of them right into it's stomach, launching it into the ground.
As it landed on the ground, the resulting shockwave shook every tree, and destroyed some of them as well, allowing Shrek to land on the ground, holding his arm, which was in pain from what he did earlier, but as he looked up, he heard a loud roar.
"RARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"
The Chainsaw Devil screamed, rushing forward towards the other being, enraged heavily. As he ran over, they were forced to drink up one of the many potions he had, though Denji wasn't aware of their multitude of them, and as he attempted to cut them in half, it had stopped right there, blocked by it's body, seemingly invincible. As it began repeatedly striking them, it casually grabbed it's chainsaw that placed on it's head, tossing it over, causing it to land on it's face.
Denji had tried to quickly pick itself up, looking back towards the other... creature. There was no way that was a Devil, though, now that Denji realized this. As they attempted to get back at the creature, he wanted to clearly end this, and before Denji could get over, he was wrapped in a purplish aura, stuck in movement, before being flung into the air.
The Devil had to get this over with quickly, he was running out of blood and this was getting too long, launching himself out of the grasp of the telekinetic wand through his strength alone, landing right on Shrek and began biting and cutting at him so he could at least absorb a drop of blood to stay in the fight longer.
Shrek didn't mind this, as he suddenly took out a wand, completely freezing Denji as he attempted to go for a final bite. This allowed Shrek time to breathe, as he kicked the frozen creature in the air, causing to land on the ground, cracking. Soon enough, it's entire frozen form shattered into pieces, destroying the creature.
K.O![]
It was over.
Shrek got up, shaking his head. He took out an onion from his pocket, taking a big and loud chomp from the onion. Though he was in a lot of pain, nearly losing his hand, being bit and cut, but he didn't mind this, walking off now to look for his kids and Fiona.
Post Analysis[]
ROB: Huh.
Game and Watch: YES! Let's go!
ROB: Right... While it was expected that Denji *should* have won, this sadly wasn't the case.
Game and Watch: Aw. While Denji was insanely strong, being that he could tank being thrown multiple buildings, which was unironically stronger than Shrek's throwing feat, he could not keep up with Shrek's speed, or hax advantage!
ROB: Yes, yes. Shrek would not only upscale to King Harold, who could block a bolt of lightning fired by Fairy Godmother, and the fact that he casually just ate one in the books. On the other hand, Denji, at his most, was travelling to other countries in five minutes. Even while these would be comparable at first glance, keep in mind that both were casual feats for Shrek and Denji, meaning they should be faster than these, albeit unquantifiably.
Game and Watch: Yeah, and Shrek could even amplify his stats further than this, meaning he should naturally have a faster speed with that! Plus, he had many abilities that he could use, while Denji's stronger abilities required him to either literally eat his opponent, or just resurrected him somewhere else.
ROB: That is true, along with the fact that regenerating from his heart required it to still be there as the Chainsaw Devil, meaning Shrek could have done what he did to Donkey and threw him into space to stop him from doing anything, incapacitate him with his higher lifting strength through the use of the Gravity Wand, or just freeze Denji so he couldn't move at all.
Game and Watch: And while Shrek was a physical fighter, he also shows the use of these abilities within his games alongside physical combat, so Denji's strength advantage wouldn't hold up much, and required blood in order to even stay active, something Shrek could avoid through the use of invinciblity!
ROB: Right...
Game and Watch: So, while the Chainsaw Man had gotten revved up, it was just all ogre before it started.
ROB: The winner is Shrek.

- This is BeautifulDuwanged's 3rd Protagonist vs Protagonist themed Death Battle, preceded by Mordecai vs Twilight Sparkle and Kars vs Kirby.
- Both are male characters who had dealt with heavy issues in their child around their father figure (According to the Shrek rap, ogres attempt to eat their children, and Denji had been malnourished alongside both mostly missing their family, with their family being deceased), who meet somewhat love interests (being Fiona and Makima) through their work (Shrek was hired to be a knight in order to save Fiona, and Denji finds Makima through his work as a Devil Hunter) in which said work includes slaying creatures (Shrek was supposed to slay Dragon, and as the name implies, Denji is a Devil Hunter). They meet characters who, despite at first glance do not share much in common, share many similar traits with them (Power and Donkey) along with their love interests being opposite to them in terms of their actual species (While Makima is a devil while Denji himself is a Hybrid, originallly human, Shrek is an ogre whereas Fiona is a human/ogre), and finally, a soft, but mature close friend of theirs (Rei and Puss in Boots). Despite their exterior (Shrek is shown to be tough as an ogre, scaring those around him, along with Denji's main transformation in turn being scary and threatening as the Chainsaw Devil) though they do not share the same inside (Shrek and Denji both had rough lives growing up, as hinted, and were forced to be on their own, as it was intended Shrek's father attempted to eat him whilst Denji's father had a debt with the Yakuza and Denji was malnourished heavily) and mostly lived on their own (Both did find a companion, Pochita and Donkey, who, despite not liking mankind, as Donkey was going to be sold into slavery by his owner and Pochita just hating humans in general, had soft spots for Shrek and Denji respectively, which they made friends with, and accompanied them until they met their love interest), with completely different physical traits (Denji is depicted to be petite and thin, of course, due to his malnourishment, alongside other things, and Shrek is large and heavy, due to how much he eats, and is depicted to be like the average fat dude, farting and all), along with their love interest not loving them back (at least, in Shrek Forever After, Fiona does not love Shrek at first and it required extended time with her, and Makima, mostly, does not love Denji as much as he loves and clings onto her, with both of them emotionally relying on them in both situations because of what was happening to Denji and Shrek)
