Description[]
King of Fighters VS Street Fighter! Two martial artists who are often beaten and made into jokes are now given the chance to prove themselves.
Introduction[]
Boomstick: The world of martial arts is a dangerous one where only the strongest and most skilled will survive.
Wiz: And these two try their hardest to prove that statement wrong.
Boomstick: Like Shingo Yabuki, the "apprentice" of Kyo Kusanagi...
Wiz: And Dan Hibiki, the "master" of Saikyō-ryū.
Boomstick: He's Wiz, and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
Shingo Yabuki kicks his own butt in DEATH BATTLE![]
Wiz: Kyo Kusanagi, some call him a prodigy, others a narcissist but all agree that he has earned the title of King of Fighters.
Boomstick: So it was only a matter of time before he'd get himself a fanboy and, boy, did Kyo get one of the more energetic ones, Shingo Yabuki.
Background:
- Age: 17
- Height: 179 cm (5'10")
- Weight: 71 kg (157 lbs)
- Martial Arts Style: Self-taught Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu
- Likes: Kyo Kusanagi, Kyo Kusanagi, Kyo Kusanagi
- Dislikes: Iori Yagami, Iori Yagami, Iori Yagami
Wiz: Born and raised in Japan to a fairly standard family, Shingo is the peak of what a normal person is.
Boomstick: Except for how much he adores his high school senpai, Kyo.
Wiz: Kyo was already a fairly popular teenager but after winning multiple KOF tournaments in a row, Shingo become Kyo's number one fan, much to Kyo's annoyance.
Boomstick: Hey, getting your own lackey who'll do anything you ask is a hell of a benefit for killing an evil serial killing, weapons smuggler... twice...
Wiz: Eventually, Shingo would start to want to be more like his idol, starting to act in an aloof manner.
Boomstick: Which for someone like Kyo, makes him look cool. For Shingo, it makes him look like a massive tool.
Wiz: But that wouldn't be all that Shingo would copy from his idol, he would also take time to study Kyo's family's fighting style, the Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu.
Self-taught Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu:
- Shingo's self-taught version of Kyo's Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu
- Specialises in hard-hitting punches and acrobatic kicks
- Inferior to the real Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu
- Moves include: Oniyaki, Aragami, Shingo Kick, Rouka Guruma and Climax Shingo.
Boomstick: The Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu... Heh, got it in one... Is an over 600-year-old martial art that Kyo's ancestors mastered so they could battle against the snake God, Orochi.
Wiz: A mixture of Japanese Karate, Chinese Kung Fu and Kenpo, Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu is an incredibly strong fighting style that relies on the practitioner being agile and acrobatic enough to pull off high-flying kicks and twist their body to build up enough momentum to deliver powerful hooks and elbows, all while being empowered by the flames that Kusanagi Sword that resides in all of the Kusanagis produces.
Boomstick: However, Shingo's version doesn't pack the punch that the original did.
Wiz: Even ignoring that Shingo is physically incapable of summoning the flames like all Kusanagis can, Shingo is just... Generally bad at fighting...
Boomstick: I'll say, he's hitting the floor with his face more than the other guy with his fists. He was so bad that even Kyo told him to quit before he hurt himself, harsh but fair.
Wiz: But on that day, Shingo would be approached by a man who would offer to train Shingo to be better than Kyo ever was, Kyo's own father, Saisyu Kusanagi.
Boomstick: Yeah, Saisyu has a bone to pick with Kyo and training some no-name loser that Kyo bad-mouthed was the perfect
Wiz: Under Saisyu's training, Shingo would improve his martial skills, becoming better at performing moves and even coming up with his own techniques to make up for his lack of flames, however, Shingo still never truly mastered Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu, however, he would.
Boomstick: Time for some time travel bullshit. So one day, Shingo accidentally fell into the past. You know, as you do and would get to be trained by the edgy scamp Iori's ancestor, Magai Yasakani.
Wiz: While in the past, Shingo would face many adversities and give many chances to prove himself but while there, Shingo would manage to forge his own flame from nothing, just as both the Kusanagis and Yasakanis did.
Shingo's Flame:
- A special blue flame that Shingo can create.
- Strong enough to harm Magai Yasakani who is far stronger than Shingo.
- Can purify someone's soul.
- Shingo has very limited control over the flames.
Boomstick: Yeah, Shingo got so angry and motivated that he learned how to punch fire.
Wiz: More specifically, it is the same type of flame that both Kyo and Iori can produce. This fire is far hotter than any normal flame and can either be shot off as a shockwave or a large explosion, it also has the additional effect of purifying someone's soul like when Shingo used his own flames to purify Magai from Orochi's curse that drove him into a mindless bloodlust.
Boomstick: However, Shingo still hasn't got any control over his fire, he just occasionally uses it by accident.
Feats:
- Was a part of the winning team during the KOF '99 tournament.
- Survived being shot by the Zero Cannon.
- Survived being attacked by Orochi Iori.
- Held his own against Magai Yasakani.
- Launched an Orochi monster several metres with a punch.
Wiz: Despite everything, Shingo is more than a competent fighter, going on to be recruited multiple times onto the winning Team Japan, landing him a winning position in the King of Fighters '99 tournament.
Boomstick: Yeah, he was just carried to the finishing line there but despite being dead weight to whatever team he's on, Shingo is still strong enough to send a bear-sized monster with a punch and even kill an even bigger monster by kicking a wooden stick into it's eye, brutal.
Wiz: And Shingo's training by watching someone fight has been shown to have its advantages like when Shingo was able to perfectly parry and dodge Magai's attacks, despite the immense power gap between the two, since Shingo noticed how Magai fought and predicted his next actions with the information he had.
Boomstick: That's impressive and all but not as impressive when he survived being shot with a city-destroying satellite laser and walked away from a mauling from Orochi Iori with just a broken arm.
Wiz: This is impressive because Iori normally is able to produce a pillar of flames so intense that it blows a hole in the clouds, several kilometres away.
Weaknesses:
- Is very clumsy.
- Often has to look at his notes to remember his moves.
- Can't correctly control his flames.
Boomstick: Shingo may be tough but he's still a rookie who hasn't mastered a fighting style and basically gets his ass beat by anyone who is decently stronger than him.
Wiz: Despite this, Shingo is always striving to improve himself until he can eventually stand on his own two feet as a martial artist worth standing beside Kusanagi lineage.
Dan Hibiki stumbles his way into DEATH BATTLE![]
Boomstick: Oh, Dan, what do we say about you?
Wiz: Born to the martial artist Go Hibiki, Dan was set up to have a fairly standard life.
Boomstick: Until your typical backstory stuff happened.
Background:
- Age: Unknown
- Height: 177 cm (5'10")
- Weight: 74 kg (163 lbs)
- Martial Arts Style: Saikyō-ryū
- Modeled after Ryo Sakazaki
- Likes: Himself
- Dislikes: People cooler than him (examples include: Everyone)
Wiz: One day, Go's dojo was visited by the martial artist, Sagat who tried to enforce the will of Shadoloo on the dojo. Go refused to back down and fought to his last breath, managing to break Sagat's eye before being beaten to death.
Boomstick: Not wanting to let his dad's killer walk away, Dan swore he'd become an even stronger fighter so he could kill Sagat. *muffled laugh*Sure Dan, you can do that.
Wiz: In order to achieve his revenge, Dan would search out the legendary hermit, Gouken, the master of the Ansatsuken or Assassination's Fist, so that he could train Dan in the ways of murder.
Boomstick: And Dan, either through his typical brick-headed stubbornness or sheer dumb luck, actually managed to find Gouken and started to learn the Ansatsuken.
Wiz: Until Gouken expelled Dan, not wanting his non-lethal version of the Ansatsuken to be used for murderous revenge like his brother Akuma, not that this is a fair comparison at all.
Boomstick: You'd think this would stop him but Dan likes chasing his goals like a dog chases a car. So he took the little he learned and combined it with, ironically enough, Muay Thai, the same martial arts that Sagat used and made the Saikyō-ryū "fighting style".
Saikyō-ryū:
- Combination of the Ansatsuken and Muay Thai.
- Allows Dan to use Chi as small projectiles.
- Inferior to the Ansatsuken.
- Moves include: Gadoken, Koryuken, Dankukyaku, Legendary Taunt and Hisshou Buraiken.
Wiz: Given that the Saikyō-ryū was partially modelled after the Ansatsuken, Dan is able to use variations on iconic fighting game moves like the Hadouken and Shoryuken, however, Dan's versions leave a lot to be desired.
Boomstick: They both suuuuccck. They barely do any damage, are so slow that a snail could dodge them and leave Dan so open that he's basically asking to be hit.
Wiz: Well... You have to admit that being able to launch a ball of chi, Dan's willpower made manifest, is impressive, right?
Boomstick: Wiz, that thing, isn't a ball of chi, it's a shiny light no bigger than a baseball and hurts as much as a light breeze.
Wiz: Ummm... Well, aside from fighting, the Saikyō-ryū also excels in *flips through notes* taunting...?'
Boomstick: Yeah that makes sense.
Satsui no Hado:
- A surge of murderous aura.
- Potentially increases Dan's power.
- Allows Dan to use the Raging Demon which destroys someone's soul.
- Dan has very limited control over the Satsui no Hado.
Wiz: While Dan is fairly incomplete in general when it comes to martial arts, Dan has shown the ability to temporarily tap into the Satsui no Hado, a mysterious source of power that allows someone to vastly grow in power in exchange for their mind being ruled by bloodlust.
Boomstick: We know this sounds dumb, that the little runt of the fighting game family can just become Akuma Jr. along with Akuma's best move, the Raging Demon.
Wiz: The Raging Demon is a sudden burst of blows, allowing someone possessed by the Satsui no Hado to completely destroy the victim's soul, leading to someone's instant death.
Feats:
- "Won a fight against Sagat."
- Punched a hole through a punching bag.
- Can beat up an oil drum and a car.
- Defeated multiple thugs at the same time.
- Took a beating from Ryu and Ken.
- Generated the Satsui no Hado.
Boomstick: Evil murder powers aside, Dan is a decent enough fighter. He's strong enough to beat down a group of thugs in a few seconds, beat up a parked car and even punch a hole through a punching bag. The force of which would allow Dan to punch through a solid brick wall, even if he's likely to break his hand afterwards.
Wiz: And despite being weak in the perspective of his own series, Dan is able to take hits from those far stronger than him like Ryu and Ken who Dan survived a beatdown from at the same time.
Boomstick: Yeah, Dan's a hard bug to stomp the life out of.
Weaknesses:
- Is generally clumsy.
- Is overly confident about his power and skill.
- Has no control over the Satsui no Hado.
- Has no confirmed wins.
Boomstick: Despite Dan's feats seeming strong, when he's standing next to any other Street Fighter character he just looks bad by comparison. Dan has the single worst track record in fictional history with his only win being after Sagat threw their fight. Eh, it's not like Dan could have killed him anyways.
Wiz: Dan's track record comes from, despite his relatively superhuman strength, he's a terrible fighter and is far weaker than any other Street Fighter. And while Dan may possess the frankly absurd Satsui no Hado, his usage of it is very limited and Dan's ability to tap into it is very infrequent with him only doing it once ever.
Boomstick: And that's ignoring how Dan's ego is bigger than his entire body and he ends up being crushed by it more times than not.
Wiz: Dan has put his own foot in his mouth more times than not and he is actively unaware of his lack of skills or strength.
Boomstick: Still, at the end of the day, you've gotta give some credit to Dan.
Wiz: No we don't.
Boomstick: Yeah, you're right but he's still better than Rufus.
Wiz: Agreed.
Pre-Fight[]
Wiz: Alright the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilities. Let's end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLEEEEE!!!
Fight[]
The scene opens on a street in Japan, Dan standing with a pile of fliers in his arms, trying to hand them out to any one of the limited number of uncaring passersby.
Dan: "Come to the Saikyō-ryū Dojo, train both your mind and body so you can be as strong as me, Dan Hibiki, the King of Fighters!"
Dan continued to boast with no one stopping to listen to him.
Before Dan could continue his spiel, Shingo came running down the streets with a bag in both of his arms.
Shingo: "Get out of the way!"
Shingo yelled as he barrelled straight towards Dan who didn't see Shingo until the two collided. Both fighters fell to the floor, dropping whatever they were holding with Dan reaching out to his fliers that were being carried away by a gust of wind.
Dan: "No... I ran out of printer ink money two weeks ago..."
Dan mourned the loss of his posters as he and Shingo got to their feet. Dan turned to face Shingo and pointed his finger at him.
Dan: "You're going to pay for that, literally."
Meanwhile, Shingo had a thought on his mind.
Shingo: "Mr. Ryo? Why are you talking like that? And why is your gi pink?"
As soon as Shingo finished speaking, Dan gripped his head and let out a fairly loud yell.
Dan: "Gah! Why does everyone keep saying I look like this Ryo guy, I'm Dan Hibiki"
Shingo was confused by how "Ryo" was acting.
Shingo: "Are you okay Mr. Ryo, you don't have a concussion, do you?"
Shingo was genuinely concerned and unaware of how much he was angering Dan.
Dan: "Alright, I'm going to show you how Dan Hibiki deals with disrespectful teenagers."
Dan got into his fighting stance before he rushed towards Shingo who was caught completely off-guard by the turn of events.
Shingo: "Wait, we're fighting!?"
Fight!
Shingo reacted as Dan leapt into the air and performed a dropkick, Shingo blocked with his arms and was pushed back by the force of Dan's foot.
After getting pushed away, Shingo stepped into his own fighting stance. Dan rushed towards Shingo, only for Shingo to deliver a powerful right hook, hitting Dan across his face so hard that Shingo almost tripped over. The punch launched Dan several metres away and onto his back.
Dan: "Owww... You're good, but I know I can win. I'll show you my newest, strongest technique!"
Dan leapt to his feet and charged forward. Shingo went to block but Dan grabbed him and threw him over his shoulder and against a nearby wall. Shingo's back hit the wall with a thud as Dan readied his fist.
Dan: "Kouten Chouhatsu!"
Dan threw out a powerful straight punch aimed at Shingo's torso, at the last moment Shingo moved his body to the left, dodging the punch which slammed straight into and through the brick wall where Shingo was standing in front. Shingo was shocked for a moment before seeing Dan pull his hand from the wall before turning away from Shingo.
Dan: "My hand..."
Dan sulked and turned around as he stared at his hand, the punch having broken Dan's fingers and his wrist.
Shingo: "Umm... Mr. Ryo, are you okay?"
After hearing Shingo call Dan the wrong name again, Dan immediately threw out his next attack.
Dan: "I don't need your concern! Gadoken!"
Dan quickly turned back around and pushed his palm towards Shingo, shooting out a small ball of chi that blasted Shingo back a few steps.
Shingo: "Geez, no need to be a jerk."
Shingo said after getting his footing. He then leapt towards Dan to deliver an axe kick.
Dan: "Ha, I could counter this in my sleep. Koryuken!"
Dan said as he performed a rising uppercut intending to punch Shingo out of the air.
However, both Shingo and Dan missed each other, causing them to slam their heads into each other. Both Dan and Shingo bounced away from the impact before they clutched their sore heads and rolled on the ground.
A second passed before the two recovered from their head injury, Shingo got to his feet first and ran towards Dan. When Dan managed to struggle his way back to his feet, Shingo landed multiple left and right hooks to Dan's torso before delivering a leaping spinning backhand to Dan's face.
Dan: "YOUWCH!"
Dan yelled in pain as he flew through the air, landing on his feet through a mixture of luck and his decent acrobatic skills.
Dan: "It's time you learn what my fists feel like."
Shingo: "You sure do like talking a lot, don't you Mr. Ryo?"
Shingo and Dan taunted as he moved towards Shingo with Shingo bringing his arms up to his upper body ready to block whatever Dan threw at him.
When Dan got in range, he immediately threw out a barrage of punches with his non-broken hand, each punch landing faster than the human eye could see moving. Each of the punches hit the sides of Shingo's arms in an attempt to hit his torso and head.
After blocking enough punches to wear Dan down, Shingo quickly delivered a straight punch to Dan's stomach, knocking the air out of him.
Dan: "He broke through my strongest move..."
Dan gasped out, unable to believe that he was beginning to lose the fight. After landing the punch, Shingo sent a right hook to Dan's torso, launching him several metres away and into a pile of trash in the area behind Dan.
Shingo: "Ha, if you want to beat me Mr. Ryo, you're going to have to start taking this fight seriously."
Shingo boasted as he brushed his nose with his thumb and kept up his fighting stance.
Instead of the usual whimpering or boasting, there was complete silence with an ominous chill beginning to creep out from Dan's location.
Shingo: "Ummm... Mr. Ryo?"
Shingo was starting to get worried, both by Dan's silence and the aura that filled the area.
In the blink of Shingo's eye, Dan went from being in the trash pile and was instantly standing up, a pink glow surrounding him and a pink light pouring out of both Dan's eyes and back.
Dan: "It's time I showed you what Dan Hibiki can really do."
Dan hovered towards Shingo and delivered the same straight punch that broke a hole in a wall and Dan's hand. Shingo went to dodge it in a similar manner as he did before, however, Shingo was too slow and the punch landed directly on Shingo's left shoulder.
Shingo felt a sharp pain in his left shoulder as a pool of blood started to form in his clothes.
Shingo: "Great, I just got that arm fixed..."
Shingo grunted out. He looked at the now super-powered and murder-fueled Dan and got bad memories of when Orochi Iori originally broke his arm. Shingo got into his fighting stance and narrowed his eyes at Dan, focusing on his every move.
Shingo: "His moves..."
Shingo started focusing less on the scary monster that Dan had become and instead focused on the movements of his limbs for every one of Dan's attacks.
Dan charged towards Shingo again, this time delivering a volley of punches with both hands. Shingo recalled when Dan did something similar with just one hand. Instead of blocking like before, Dan instead chose to duck below the punch's range and delivered a kick to Dan's knees before rolling backwards.
After stumbling, Dan began to charge up his chi in both of his hands. Not having any better ideas, Shingo went for a mad dash towards Dan, wanting to knock him out before he shot out his blast of chi. Shingo leapt high into the air and went to hit Dan's head with an axe kick. Shingo's foot connected with Dan's head, there was a visible wound on his head with a trail of blood leading down his face but this didn't stop Dan.
Dan unleashed a large blast of chi directly in front of him, engulfing Shingo before blasting him away into the nearby wall. Shingo's back slammed into the wall and he bounced towards Dan who took up an iconic pose before sliding to Shingo.
Dan: "Raging Demon!"
Dan screamed as the entire area was filled with darkness and a sudden volley of punches hit Shingo, each punch lighting up the area with a dull pink light. As he was being, a small flame started to light itself on Shingo's hands, burning bright enough to light Shingo's figure as he was getting hit by the punches.
When Dan was reading to land the final punch, Shingo raised his flaming hand and threw a punch at the same time. Shingo's flaming fist collided with Dan's fist. Shingo and Dan's fists would struggle against each other to land the final blow.
Eventually, Shingo's fist would push through and travel straight into Dan's chest. The flames exploded from Shingo's fist and onto Dan's chest, burning both his demonic aura and his body in an instant.
After Dan's body turned to ash and was blown away, Shingo flopped backwards and clutched his arm before passing out.
Results[]
K.O.
Shingo continued lying there, breathing heavily, as Dan's belt fluttered away.
Boomstick: Damn, who'd have thought murder magic would make a loser such a badass.
Wiz: This fight was incredibly close, with both of their direct feats, both Shingo and Dan were actually comparable in terms of strength and speed, however, durability was another factor.
Boomstick: While Dan was able to get back after getting beaten by Ryu and Ken, they weren't exactly trying to kill or brutalise the guy.
Wiz: Meanwhile the same isn't true for Orochi Iori, who was fuelled by a murderous bloodlust, or the Zero Cannon, which annihilated an entire city, both of which Shingo was able to take without either dying or being too badly injured.
Boomstick: However, even if Dan and Shingo were completely as durable as each other, Shingo would still win. He is a good martial artist who is always growing, whereas, Dan can't even figure out how much he sucks and hasn't improved even a little.
Wiz: The Saikyō-ryū martial art is actively considered to be the worst fighting style in the series, meanwhile, the Kusanagi-ryū Kobujutsu is an actually strong fighting style, even if Shingo hasn't fully mastered it.
Boomstick: Meaning that Dan could never really beat Shingo in a fair fight, so his only way of winning was the Satsui no Hado.
Wiz: While it is true that the Satsui no Hado vastly increases the strength of its user, it's to an unknown extent, especially when Dan uses it. It's simply impossible to say if the power boost is enough to allow Dan the ability to win.
Boomstick: Even if it did, Shingo had multiple counters. He's already shown the ability to read his foe's moves and dodge attacks from guys stronger and faster than he is, so Dan would have his work cut out for him to even land an attack, especially with how much the Saikyō-ryū style sucks.
Wiz: While this might look like it would end in a stalemate, Shingo's powerful flames were the perfect method of both ending the fight and completely nullifying the Satsui no Hado. Shingo's flames are the same as Kyo's which are stated to be able to purify souls, this is even shown when Shingo manages to revert Mugai back to normal after being possessed by the Riot of the Blood, a very similar power to the Satsui no Hado.
Boomstick: Sure Shingo's flames aren't exactly the most reliable thing, but Shingo's constantly seen accidentally using them and Dan has only really used the Satsui no Hado once and he biffed it by tripping over the second he got the chance. Meaning that Dan's one way of winning was the biggest long shot in the world and Shingo could potentially set Dan on fire by accident at any point.
Wiz: While Dan and Shingo are very comparable on paper, Shingo's raw grit, martial prowess and perfect counter was more than enough to take Dan down.
Boomstick: Dan tried his best but it all went up in Flames.
Wiz: The winner is Shingo Yabuki.
Winner: Shingo Yabuki:
- + More Durable
- + Better martial artist
- + Flames nullified the Satsui no Hado
- + Flames more reliable than Satsui no Hado
- = Just as fast
- = Just as strong
- - Prone to mistakes
Loser: Dan Hibiki:
- + Potentially stronger with Satsui no Hado
- = Just as fast
- = Just as strong
- - Satsui no Hado was unreliable
- - Too overconfident and unaware of his faults
- - Bad martial artist
Next Time on Death Battle[]
Frieza: "Consider this my parting gift to you! A nightmare beyond even the horrors of hell! Witness my true, ultimate form!"
Void Dark: "Hmhmhm... Powerless and unintelligent Overlords... Why don't you all come at me? I'll take you all down on my way to killing Killia."
Trivia[]
Connections:
- Both Dan and Shingo are joke characters who are canonically the weakest characters in their respective series and fight by using worse versions of the main character's fighting styles, Kyo and Ryu respectively.
- Both Dan and Shingo have access to the ultimate power that both Kyo and Ryu have, the Flames for Shingo and the Satsui no Hado for Dan, however, neither has proper control over it.
Original Track[]
The original track for this episode would be called "Farce of Fighting". The name being a pun on the game "Art of Fighting", a game SNK created and would be used as the source of inspiration for Dan with the first word being changed to "Farce" due to both Dan and Shingo being weak and clumsy in a fight.
Q&A[]
Would Dan have won if he and Shingo were scaled to non-top tier fighters?
- Now, that would be telling for my other KOF VS SF episodes.
Would you want to see these characters fight in an actual crossover?
- Even though I think they've appeared in multiple games together, I would like to see an actual fight between them.
How likely do you think this will become an actual Death Battle?
- It has a decent chance if Dan (who is fairly popular, both in and out of the VS sphere) gets a second episode and Shingo is fairly high up as being Dan's opponent.
