Intro[]
Wiz: It has been thought many times that your past and upbringing determine your future. While they do play a factor, the future is never set in stone.
Boomstick: That's certainly true for today's fighters. They took their past and killed it.
Wiz: Like Rey, the main Jedi of the sequel trilogy of Star Wars.
Boomstick: Wait, that Mary Sue? Come on, she barely does anything to become a Jedi.
Wiz: Your not wrong, but wow, we're insulting our fighters already? That was quick.
Boomstick: Yup. And on the other side we have Shez, the Fire Emblem Avatar with an actual personality. I'm looking at you, Corrin.
Wiz: At this point, I think you're just trying to insult as many characters as possible.
Boomstick: Yup! He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to see who would win a Death Battle.
Rey Forces Her Way Into Death Battle![]
Wiz: In a galaxy far, far away, on the desert planet of Jakku, lived a simple scavenger scraping by day to day. Until one fateful encounter would change the course of her life forever. Her name? Rey.
Boomstick: Help me make sense of this. Rey goes from scavenging all her life, not leaving the planet, to meeting a stormtrooper, to flying The Millennium Falcon. Like how does that work?
Wiz: Boomstick, we’re trying to keep this neutral. Most reasoning to what I’ve seen revolves around “The Force” but even then, there are holes in that. Just, try to keep it all neutral for now.
Boomstick: Fine…
Wiz: Speaking of The Force, let’s talk about Rey’s force powers. Despite her limited training, she has learned several techniques, such as Force Push and Force Pull, which pushes foes away or drags them closer.
Boomstick: She has also been seen to use The Force to augment her own physical abilities with abilities such as Force Speed, Force Jump, and Force Rage, which increases speed, jump height, and strength respectively.
Wiz: Rey has also shown the ability to use The Force in relation to mind powers, such as Mind Probe and Mind Trick.
Boomstick: And then there’s the time where she was able to use Force Lightning once. Though that was the result of giving into her anger, which means she only used it once.
Wiz: Most of Rey’s force powers focus around augmenting her own skills, with some more offensive powers. Typical for Light Side force users.
Boomstick: Though Rey doesn’t just have to rely on the force. She also learned how to fight in close quarters combat with her staff and hand to hand combat as well.
Wiz: Though she hasn’t had much training, she is proficient enough with the lightsaber to overcome Kylo Ren, who is the strongest and most skilled duelist she faced, who did have over a decade of training in the ways of the blade and the force.
Boomstick: Also, Rey has been shown to be rather accurate with blasters before. I wonder where she picked that up?
Wiz: Well… I don’t know. Certainly not in her training. Though this did come with some other advantages, such as helping her run fast enough to outrun blaster bolts from TIE Fighters, or physically push back Kylo Ren in terms of brute strength. Though this was after Kylo was shot by Chewbacca’s bowcaster and had just fought Finn, so we need to keep that in mind.
Boomstick: But with what training she did have, she was able to fight off several Praetorian Guards at once, the most elite of Snoke’s guards.
Wiz: Not to mention the fact that she was able to deflect Palpatine’s lightning, turning it back on him, and killing him.
Boomstick: Seriously, how did he not learn after he’d hurt himself several times with his own lightning? You would think that one of the most powerful Sith Lords would learn a thing or two from that.
Wiz: Yeah… I don’t have an answer for that one. But, in the end, using her natural ability with the force and the help of the other jedi behind her, Rey was able to defeat Palpatine, bringing peace to the galaxy.
Rey: Something inside me has always been there, but now it's awake. And I'm afraid. I don't know what it is or what to do with it, and I need help.
Shez Breaks New Boundaries In Death Battle![]
Wiz: On the continent of Fodlan lived a mercenary once lost to the waves of time. Yet, in a twist of fate, would alter the course of history: Shez
Boomstick: In the Three Houses timeline, Shez was never mentioned at all. Mostly because they weren’t designed yet, but more accurate to lore, they died.
Wiz: At the hands of the infamous Ashen Demon, Byleth, Shez would meet a dismal end. But thanks to a mysterious figure named Arval, they would survive another day.
Boomstick: With Arval’s intervention, Shez went from certain death to Arval saying: “Here, have this sick new sword, a massive power boost, oh and the ability to teleport!"
Wiz: That’s no joke. With Arval’s power, Shez was able to master their high octane dual wielding fighting style, making them a tempest on the battlefield.
Boomstick: Shez has mastered all sorts of weapons and magic. Swords, Axes, Spears, Bows, Dark and Light magic, and even hand to hand combat.
Wiz: But in most media and cutscenes, we’ve seen that Shez prefers swordplay, on one hand favoring a lethal Killing Edge, a sword that cuts with lethal precision, increasing critical hit rate.
Boomstick: On the other hand, they wield a special sword that they can call upon at any time, and it just materializes in their hands.
Wiz: Not much is known about their special sword, but given its connection to Arval, we know it’s connected to Agarthan magic, and we’ve seen The Agarthans make weapons that rival The Heroes’ Relics, the strongest weapons in the land, made of dragon bones, making their blades near impervious to wear, though the same cannot be said for the shafts. One example being Edelgard’s axe: Amyr.
Boomstick: Even though Shez prefers to be right in the thick of battle, they’ve also got ways to be a menace from a distance.
Wiz: Shez has learned how to harness the powers of Dark magic, channeling it into several spells such as Dark Spikes T, which send a wave of dark magical spikes towards their foes, or Mire B, which rains dark magic over their foes.
Boomstick: They’ve also learned how to incorporate this magic into their swordplay, showcasing the ability to create arcs of dark magic that they launch at their foes.
Wiz: Just these tools alone allow Shez to tear through the many battlefields of Fodlan, but even if that wasn’t enough, they can always just warp a short distance with Shadowflash.
Boomstick: Thanks to their prowess on the field of battle, Shez would be permitted to attend The Officers’ Academy at Garreg Mach for a short time before each region would be thrown into chaos.
Wiz: From this moment on in the story, depending on what house they joined would shape Shez’s fate going forward. But one thing would remain consistent. They would be asked to serve as a high ranking commander in the army.
Boomstick: Their time at the academy and fighting in the war gave Shez plenty of battlefield experience, and with that, many new skills acquired.
Wiz: Given that Three Hopes skill acquisition is tied to the class systems, we can look at the skills of their basic class progression from Myrmidon to their unique Master Class, Asura.
Boomstick: With this, Shez comes into the fight with Sword Prowess, a skill that increases damage dealt with swords. Carpe Diem increases their speed and dexterity, making them more mobile on the battlefield.
Wiz: Swordfaire, Apex Sword, and Boost Critical all boost Shez’s critical rate, pairing well with their Killing Edge.
Boomstick: And it’s now that we get to the crazy stuff. Shez is able to enter an awakened state for crazy damage, helping them find openings in foe’s defenses where it was previously difficult. When this state ends, they unleash a powerful flurry of attacks.
Wiz: Shez has several skills that augment this awakened state. Swift Awakening allows their normal attacks to help fill their awakening gauge, and True Awakening increases the time they can spend in their awakened state.
Boomstick: And as the battle progresses, Shez is also able to unleash powerful combos of brutal attacks. This is called The Warrior Special.
Wiz: Skills like Mortal Coil and Renewed Carnage help Shez fill their warrior gauge to activate these special attacks, while the skill The Creation makes them completely invulnerable to knockback while at least one warrior gauge is filled.
Boomstick: All this fancy training didn’t just teach Shez these skills. It also taught them some fancy techniques they could employ called Combat Arts.
Wiz: Shez learned the basic Wrath Strike and Grounder arts, which are heavy sword attacks, but they also learned high level maneuvers such as Astra and Swift Slice.
Boomstick: Astra sees Shez surge forward for heavy damage across multiple strikes. While Swift Slice could be seen as an upgraded Astra, as it deals more damage and deals effective damage against any opponent.
Wiz: All this training made Shez an absolute menace on the battlefield. With this training, Shez became one of the fastest warriors in all of Fodlan, being able to outspeed the likes of Dimitri, Claude, Felix, and even Byleth.
Boomstick: We’ve seen all of them dodge lightning, or even tank it if necessary. Not to mention that Shez was able to match the likes of Edelgard and Byleth in strength, both of whom could stand up to the likes of Dimitri, who is one of the physically strongest warriors in Fodlan.
Wiz: And this isn’t even mentioning the fact that Shez took the small task force of their classmates and took down The Immaculate One, who survived for a short time after getting hit by two Javelins of Light.
Boomstick: Though they were able to do such amazing things with the power that was gifted them, Shez still remained skeptical of their true nature. But things would be hard for them when they learned that their powers were connected to the organization that had been pulling the strings of war throughout history: Those Who Slither in the Dark, or TWISTD.
Wiz: Within the darkness of Zaharas, Shez would learn the true nature of Arval: Epimenides. A man who grew powerful enough to transfer his consciousness to another vessel. And Shez was to be his next vessel after Arval.
Boomstick: Yet it was in this darkness where Shez was able to overcome the dark nature of their past by defeating Epimenides and several dark phantoms of their friends, and even themselves.
Wiz: After defeating phantoms of several of their classmates, The House Leaders, and even Byleth, Arval would channel the last remnants of his power to Shez, allowing them to escape the endless labyrinth of Zaharas and return to Foldan.
Boomstick: Where Shez proceeded to absolutely curbstomp the remnants of TWISTD, ending their dark plans for good.
Wiz: Once a no name mercenary lost to time, Shez would rise up to become one of the legends in Fodlan history, and with their friends beside them, overcome their dark past, and help shape Fodlan’s new Dawn.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set and we've run the data through all possibilities!
Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!!!
Pre-Fight[]
Music: Stillness and Meditation - Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
Location: Ahch-To
The golden light of the setting sun bathed the cliffs of Ahch-To in a warm, fleeting glow. The ocean stretched endlessly beyond the jagged rocks, its waves crashing against the shore in a steady rhythm. Above, seabirds cried out, their calls fading into the breeze.
Rey deactivated her lightsaber, its yellow blade collapsing into silence with a soft hiss. She wiped a bead of sweat from her brow, her hand lingering on the hilt as if reluctant to let go. Training was done for the day, at least as far as the ancient Jedi texts could guide her. Each lesson felt like reaching for the edge of a map, the answers she sought just out of reach. But the Force was still her compass, an ever-present guide in the void of isolation. She had to trust it.
She clipped the saber to her belt and stepped toward a weathered stone pedestal that overlooked the sea. Sitting cross-legged, she let the cool breeze roll over her, carrying the scent of salt and damp moss. She closed her eyes, her breathing slowing, syncing with the crash of the waves. The Force thrummed here, vibrant and alive, coursing through every element around her.
As her mind quieted, she extended her senses outward. The current of the Force enveloped her, infinite and boundless. It was calming, like stepping into a flowing river.
But then the river twisted.
A disturbance rippled through the Force, sharp and jagged, cutting against its natural flow. Rey’s brows furrowed as she reached for the anomaly, trying to understand. It was chaotic, wild—like a storm barely restrained. The presence felt foreign, unlike the oppressive darkness of Kylo Ren or the suffocating malevolence of Palpatine.
And it was moving closer.
Rey opened her eyes, her focus snapping back to the physical world. She rose fluidly to her feet, her hand brushing the hilt of her lightsaber. The chill of the presence lingered, pressing at the edges of her awareness. It was near now, like a predator circling unseen.
Her voice cut through the sound of the waves, steady and unyielding.
“Who’s there?”
For a moment, nothing answered but the wind. Then, from the shadows of the rocks, a figure emerged.
The stranger moved with deliberate ease, her pace slow but unrelenting. She was dressed in muted orange and gray, her light clothing clashing with the island’s natural green tones. A shock of purple hair framed her face, one sharp eye visible beneath her bangs. Blades glinted in the fading sunlight—an axe slung across her back, twin swords at her sides, and daggers strapped to her arms. Yet it wasn’t her arsenal that unsettled Rey. It was the aura she carried.
The Force around the stranger was unstable, coiling and shifting like a storm contained in human form.
The woman stopped a dozen paces away, her head tilting slightly as if studying Rey. Then she smiled—faint, amused, but with no warmth.
“Who I am?” Her voice carried a casual lilt, tinged with dry humor. “Does it really matter?”
Rey’s gaze didn’t waver. “It matters to me.”
The stranger’s eye glimmered with curiosity, but her smile remained. “Fair enough. But I’m not here to make small talk. Someone hired me to bring you in.”
Rey’s fingers tightened on her saber hilt. She didn’t need to ask who. Even with the First Order dismantled, its shadows lingered in the galaxy, whispering through mercenaries and loyalists.
“You’ve made a mistake,” Rey said evenly, though her voice carried steel. “I won’t go with you.”
The stranger’s smile deepened, as if she’d been expecting this answer. Without hesitation, she reached for one of her swords, drawing it with a smooth, deliberate motion.
“Yeah, I figured you’d say that,” she said lightly.
Rey tensed as a second blade shimmered into existence in the stranger’s off hand, materializing with a faint, eerie glow. Its energy resonated in the Force like an echo of something ancient—foreign and unnerving.
“Interesting,” Rey murmured, igniting her lightsaber. The yellow blade sprang to life, its warm glow cutting through the encroaching shadows. She held it steady, her posture calm but ready. “That weapon… What is it?”
The stranger twirled her swords experimentally, their edges catching the last rays of sunlight. “The kind that gets the job done.” Her voice was casual, but her stance shifted, the casual air falling away to reveal a poised, dangerous precision. “So, what’s it gonna be? More questions, or do we skip to the good part?”
Rey took a step forward, her blade unwavering. “You don’t have to do this. Whatever they promised you, it’s not worth this fight. Walk away now, and no harm will come to you.”
The stranger’s expression flickered, her smile faltering for a heartbeat. Her visible eye shifted, as if weighing Rey’s words.
But then she shrugged, the moment of doubt vanishing. “Sorry. Not that simple.”
Rey’s jaw tightened, disappointment flashing across her features. “So be it.”
The world around them seemed to hold its breath. The waves fell quieter, the air still.
Then they moved.
DEATH BATTLE[]
Analysis[]
Results[]
Notes[]
Connections:
Both Rey and Shez worked hit or miss jobs just to scrape by early in their life. (Rey being a scavenger on Jakku and Shez being a mercenary in Fodlan )
Both were ridiculed for their occupations, even later in life. (Rey belittled by society for her time as a scavanging nobody and Shez for their lack of noble blood while leading an army.)
Both met a stranger which initiated a turning point in their life that propelled them to far beyond their normal work. (Rey meeting Finn and Shez meeting Arval)
Both faced incredibly dangerous opponents that would best them during their first meeting. (Rey would be captured by Kylo Ren and Shez would nearly be killed by Byleth)
Both were abandoned by their parents at an early age
Both are tied to a mysterious evil being of great power, both who can transfer their essence into other hosts. (Rey being a Palpatine's granddaughter and Shez being tied to Epimenides through Arval)
Both are capable of using extremely dark powers, though would learn to use it for good. (Rey can harness Force Lightning and The Dark Side and Shez has multiple abilities very similar to Those Who Slither in the Dark (TWISTD))
Towards the end of their journeys, both would eventually team up with their past rivals to defeat the aforementioned evil beings of great power. (Rey would team up with Kylo Ren to defeat Palpatine and Shez would team up with Byleth to defeat TWISTD and Epimenides)
Both would become very uneasy about their true identities, questioning whether or not they belong with their group, yet towards the end would come to learn that their pasts didn't matter as much as their actions in the present (Rey would come to accept being a Palpatine, and Shez would come to accept their nature being tied to TWISTD)
As per usual, the music tracks used are just placeholders. Were I to come up with an original track for this fight, I would call it "Darkness of the Past" The cover would feature Rey's Lightsaber and Shez's Agarthan Blade in Zaharas buried in the ground next to each other, while we see Palpatine sitting on his throne, but with Epimenides' orange accessories (I don't know what all of them are called)
