Description[]

These ponytailed protagonists have a knack for saving the world. Of course, only one of them has what it takes to win a one-on-one duel to the death. Will Shantae dance her way to victory or will Asha slice her in half? Either way, somebody is gonna get cut down…

Introduction[]

Wiz: Throughout history, many hairstyles have appeared and vanished, but none have had the iconic status of the ponytail.

Boomstick: It’s also pretty popular among heroines, too.

Wiz: Case in point, Shantae, protector of Scuttle Town.

Boomstick: And Asha, the heroine of Monster World. He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick.

Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their armor, weapons and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Shantae[]

Wiz: Welcome to Sequin Land, a place full of danger and excitement.

Boomstick: Of course, if things got too dangerous, then Sequin Land had a solution to the problem: the Guardian Genies! These gorgeous genies kept the peace and won the hearts of many men. You know, having a powerful wife would be a dream come true for me.

Wiz: Funny you should mention that, Boomstick. As it turned out, several genies ended up marrying some of the men living Sequin Land, producing half-genies, all of which were girls.

Boomstick: Eventually, many of the Guardian Genies vanished from Sequin Land, resulting in a few of the half-genies getting their old roles. Case in point, Shantae, the current heroine of Scuttle Town.

Wiz: Shantae has proven herself to be quite a powerful protector over the course of the series, acquiring all sorts of awesome abilities to help her on her quest to defeat her world’s numerous villains, most notably the infamous pirate, Risky Boots, and her army of Tinkerbats.

Boomstick: Her most memorable weapon is her hair, which she gets to use like a whip. Of course, she has another, more powerful ability: magical dances! Now if you’d excuse me, I need to get this neat thing I found. (Boomstick runs out of the analysis room. Boomstick comes back with a lamp-like object)

Wiz: What’s that?

Boomstick: It’s a magic lamp. I’m going to make three wishes with it. (Boomstick rubs the lamp and nothing happens) Hey, what gives?! There’s supposed to be a genie in this thing! (Boomstick rubs the lamp again and nothing happens again)

Wiz: As Boomstick was saying, Shantae’s strongest ability are the dances that she performs, because they actually allow her to shapeshift. For instance, she has the power to turn into an elephant, which lets her smash into large objects, a monkey, which lets her climb up walls and jump off of them, a spider, which also lets her climb up walls but also allows her to spit venom, a harpy, which lets her fly and attack with her talons, and a tinkerbat, which lets her do most of the above plus use a sword. These, by the way, are just the ones from her first adventure. She gained a lot more in her later ones, though their abilities are sometimes similar to the powers her other forms have.

Boomstick: She can turn into a mermaid form that lets her swim, a crab that allows her sink to the bottom of bodies of water, a mouse that gives her the power to crawl into small spaces, a bat that gives her the ability to fly and see in the dark, a dryad form that lets her make oranges, a gemjug form that lets her create gems, a blobfish form that bounces, her Sophia III form that turns her into a weaponized vehicle with a blaster on it, and in Seven Sirens, she got the Dash Newt, the Jet Octo, the Gastro Drill, the Sea Frog and the Bonker Tortoise. She has so many forms that it makes me want my wishes granted by a genie even more! (Boomstick runs out of the analysis room again and gets another lamp but nothing happens) Come on! I want to shapeshift, too!

Wiz: In regards to the Gastro Drill, Dash Newt, Sea Frog, Bonker Tortoise and Jet Octo, they are quite different from the others forms Shantae takes. This is because these transformations are instantaneous while the others require a dance. Then there’s her Fusion Dance ability. This allows Shantae to mess with the world around her by utilizing the powers of her fellow half-genies.

Boomstick: The Seer Dance let’s her detect invisible stuff, the Refresh Dance heals her, the Spark Dance hurts enemies with lightning and the Quake Dance makes earthquakes. She’s got a lot of tricks up her sleeve, but that’s not all.

Wiz: She doesn’t always rely on her powers to fight. This is where her secondary weapons come into play. Her friend Bolo gave some martial arts lessons, allowing her to fight using kick attacks.

Boomstick: If you wished for a powerful Death Battle combatant, then Shantae just granted it.

Shantae: I’m ret-2-go!

Asha[]

Wiz: In Monster World, the once peaceful world was in a state of crisis.

Boomstick: A bunch of evil wizards with no eyeballs decided to work for a giant eye thing named Warera and cause trouble for the world. Trust me, the plot for Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is an incredibly simple but very strange one.

Wiz: Making matters worse was Warera’s minions capturing the four spirits Lotto the Earth Spirit, Shabo the Moon Spirit, Hotta the Sun Spirit and Priscilla the Wind Spirit.

Boomstick: There was only one person who was capable to saving Monster World, and apparently that someone was Asha, a young girl who wanted to become a warrior. Oh, and Boomstick, I have a question.

Wiz: Sure, go ahead, Boomstick.

Boomstick: Does her ponytail act as a weapon?

Wiz: Actually, Asha’s ponytail is purely a hairstyle choice. However, Asha is a warrior who relies very heavily on the bread and butter of any warrior’s arsenal: the sword.

Boomstick: Asha is an expert in the art of the sword, capable of taking down several monsters far larger than herself with some pretty fast sword swings. (Boomstick runs out of the analysis room yet again in search of a working genie lamp)

Wiz: To be specific, Asha’s sword swings move at half a second, making her an incredibly fast fighter. She can also bounce on her enemies using her sword like a pogo stick. She can also purchase stronger swords, with the strongest sword she can wield being the Legendary Sword. (Boomstick returns with another lamp) You’re still trying to get a genie to appear?! We’re not even talking about Shantae anymore!

Boomstick: I’m not giving up! (A note came out of the lamp reading “To anyone reading this, I am a free genie. I’m not going to grant wishes anymore, as I’m now too busy having adventures with Aladdin. Signed, Genie”) What!? Not again!

Wiz: So, ignoring Boomstick’s many failed attempts to get a genie to grant him his wishes, let’s delve into detail about the other important weapon that Asha can use: a shield.

Boomstick: It might not look like much, but it’s certainly nothing to scoff at. That shield of hers is capable of blocking all sorts of attacks, including ones from enemies far larger than herself.

Wiz: The primary purpose of the shield is for blocking long range attacks and, like the sword, Asha can equip much stronger shield than the one she started out with. The strongest out of all the shields that she can use is the Legendary Shield. (Boomstick leaves the analysis room and comes back with something different)

Wiz: Boomstick, why do you have an office lamp in your hand?

Boomstick: All of the regular genie lamps don’t work, so I thought this lamp would do.

Wiz: But that isn’t a genie lamp. It’s the office lamp I bought two months ago. Just give up, Boomstick. (Boomstick rubs the lamp. DUMMI appears just as Boomstick picks up a coffee mug)

DUMMI: Hello, Boomstick. (Boomstick looks behind him and sees DUMMI. The surprise of seeing DUMMI causes the mug to fall on DUMMI’s head)

Boomstick: A genie! I knew I’d make a genie appear eventually! (Wiz starts rubbing his forehead)

Wiz: Time to get back to the analysis. When it comes to Asha’s abilities, she can double jump, but she needs help from a pepelogoo for that. Due to the fact that this would be outside help, Asha will not be using her pepelogoo during this fight.

Boomstick: Okay, genie, I wish for more coffee! (DUMMI gets more coffee for Boomstick!) Thank you, genie!

DUMMI: My life is suffering.

Wiz: When this analysis is over, we’re having a talk. Anyway, when it comes to saving Monster World, nobody is more qualified than Asha.

Voice: Someone… Help… Stop…cataclysm…before it spreads… (Camera moves and observes Asha standing on a cliff)

Death Battle[]

Wiz: Alright, the stage is set and everyone is ready to fight!

Boomstick: I wish for a great Death Battle!!!!!

Wiz: DUMMI isn’t a genie!

(The scene is near the docks of Scuttle Town, where Shantae walks past a restaurant where Latch is eating a drumstick)

Shantae: (Shantae sighs) Uncle Mimic said that his new invention was going to be ready soon, but I’ll be bored if I have to wait for him to finish it any longer. Maybe something incredibly interesting will end up happening to me today. (Shantae walks onto the dock and sits by the edge hoping something exciting will happen. Asha arrives in town on a boat. She notices Shantae and is surprised by her large ponytail. Shantae notices Asha staring at her and seems to be somewhat annoyed by Asha’s presence) Huh? Who are you? What’s the matter?

Asha: Hmm… (Asha curiously inspects Shantae’s long ponytail and starts pulling on it) Hehehehe!

Shantae: Knock it off! It takes hours to get my hair just right! Please apologize for pulling it or you’re really going to regret it! (Asha sees Shantae’s ponytail was now messy and starts laughing despite trying really hard to hold her laughter back. Shantae looks at her ponytail and realizes just how messy it was) My ponytail! I’ll show you! (Shantae pulls Asha’s ponytail really hard)

Asha: AAAAH!!

Shantae: That’ll teach you. (Asha pulls Shantae’s hair in response to Shantae pulling hers) Ow! Fine. If you want a fight, then I’m ret-2-go!

FIGHT!!!

Shantae: Take this! (Shantae whips Asha with her hair, hurting Asha. Asha takes out the Legendary Sword and the Legendary Shield and tries to swing her sword at Shantae, cutting her shoulder slightly) Ow! You swing that thing fast! Thankfully, I can remedy that! (Shantae starts dancing. Asha looks at Shantae in a very confused manner and then Shantae turns into her spider form)

Asha: AAAAHHH!!!!

Shantae: Take this! (Shantae fires spider venom from her mouth, which Asha blocks with her shield) Nice shield, but that’s not going to be enough! (Shantae climbs up a wall as Asha is watching Shantae and anticipating what move she might make next. Asha watches as Shantae escapes and chases after her) If we’re going to fight to the death, then I have to lead her out of town. I don’t want anybody getting dragged into the conflict. (Asha follows a trail of footprints that Shantae made to lure Asha away from Scuttle Town. Asha eventually reaches a desert oasis and hears the sound of heavy footsteps heading her way)

Asha: Hmm? (Asha turns to her right and sees a strange elephant charging at her. Athena elephant’s charge misses her, but Asha realizes that the elephant was the strange shapeshifter she fought back in town)

Shantae: Alright, lady. It’s time for me to kick some butt! (Shantae charges at Asha and misses. She charges again and Asha dodges the attack once more)

Asha: EYAAAAH! (Asha tries to swing her sword at Shantae but misses) HIYAAAAH!! (Asha once again swings her sword at Shantae and misses, making har incredibly frustrated and upset that none of her attacks seem to actually be working at all. Shantae charges at Asha and Asha manages to finally land a proper hit on Shantae the moment Shantae missed the charge)

Shantae: Ow! That smarts! Listen, I don’t know why we’re dragging this fight on for so long, but it has to stop. If you keep trying to attack me like this, then you won’t leave me with any other choice. You need to stop! This is your final warning! (Asha seems like she is no mood to listen to Shantae is trying to say to her) Fine then. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! (Shantae charges further into the desert with Asha following her. Eventually, Shantae finds somewhere to hide and reverts back into genie form. She waits for Asha to approach and then turns into her Spark Form) I warned you!! (Shantae unleashes an electrical attack so powerful and large that Asha has no way of defending against it)

Asha: AAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!! (Asha screams as her body is reduced to ash and bones)

Shantae: Well, that was rough. Time to go back in town and fix my hair.

Results[]

K.O.!!

Boomstick: My wish was granted! That was a good fight, but it seemed so short.

Wiz: Indeed it was, Boomstick, and that’s because Asha, despite her quick sword swings and powerful shield, had next to nothing that could actually make her stand a chance against Shantae. It might be true that many of her forms require time to transform into, Shantae had what it took to evade Asha, negating any way Asha could reach her in time. Her arsenal was so varied and powerful that Asha only using a sword and shield made a victory impossible.

Boomstick: In other words, Asha couldn’t even win by a hair. And now for my third wish. I wish for more beer! (Boomstick looks around and nothing happens. Boomstick gets depressed until he finds a beer bottle on the floor) Nice.

Wiz: Good grief. The winner is Shantae.
