Description[]
Final Fantasy Vll VS Mega Man X. While heroes crave justice, others crave power. And this crave for power can turn heroes to the dark side. Will Sepiroth be Sigma's anti-virus? Will Sigma clip Sephiroth's final wing forever? Stay tuned!
Interlude[]
(*Cues: Wiz and Boomstick - Brandon Yates*)
Wiz: Many heroes are often considered the greatest of greats.
Boomstick: Because of this, they usually have bing statues, fame, and are often leaders.
Wiz: But no one is perfect. And sometimes, your greatest inspiration can be your worst nightmare.
Boomstick: Like Sephiroth, the two-faced hero gone One-Winged Angel.
Wiz: And Sigma, the renegade Reploid turned malicious Maverick.
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a death battle.
Sephiroth[]
(*Cues: Infiltrating Shinra Tower - Final Fantasy Vll*)
Wiz: In the world of Final Fantasy, there was a company known as Shinra. In an attempt to enter these place known as a place known as the Promised Land, they created a special being with the cells of the being Jenova known as Sephiroth.
Boomstick: Sephiroth joined SOLDIER, an eleite fighting group for the Shinra Electric Power Company.
Wiz: He quickly became the hero of the Wutai War and was respected among the people and was an inspiration for many, including the swordsman, Cloud Strife.
Boomstick: But life was wasn't all war and rainbows. In Nibelheim, he found a bunch of journals on the Jenova Project, making him realize that he was just an experiment.
Wiz: This drove Sephiroth mad, causing him to light the small town on fire, until he was stopped by Cloud Strife, who proceeded to stab Sephiroth in the chest and kill him.
Boomstick: Lucky for Sephy, he landed in this place called the Lifestream. The Lifestream not only rebuilt his body, but also made him even deadlier than before.
(*Cues: Vs Sephiroth - Kingdom Hearts*)
Wiz: Sephiroth's genes from the creature Jenova and his time in the Lifestream made him incredibly strong. Sephiroth wields a blade known as the Masamune which is his signature weapon.
Boomstick: Sephiroth also wears the Gold Armlet to boost his defense and Tough Ring to boost his Vitality and Spirit.
Wiz: Sephiroth can also use numerous different Materia ranging from fire, ice, and lightning.
Boomstick: Sephy can also use Earth Materia to attack his enemies. He can heal himself with Cure and Regen.
Wiz: When Sephiroth's Tough Ring and Gold Armlet aren't good enough defenses, he can use the Barrier ability to block attacks and Reflect to send attacks back to the user.
(*Cues: One-Winged Angel - Dissidia Final Fantasy*)
Boomstick: With all of his Materia, Sephiroth has proven to be one of the most powerful warriors in the Final Fantasy universe. He's strong enough to injure Cloud Strife, who can take a hit from a gauntlet that can break down an ice tree, cut through Mako Cannons, and block an attack equivalent to sixteen hundred tons.
Wiz: He's tough enough to take fireballs from Genesis. Genesis' fireballs are powerful enough to blow a huge hole in the wall. And he's tough enough to survive being impaled in the Buster Sword. And he took a hit from a dragon that knocked out Zack Fair, who can still be concious after getting smacked into a pillar. Not to mention that he's fast enough to keep pace with Cloud Strife
Boomstick: He's battled Genesis and Angeal at the same time, defeated Tifa in combat, and in his rematch with Cloud Strife, he was totally dominating.
Wiz: And the only reason he rally lost was because Cloud's new version of the Omnislash. But while Sephiroth is powerful, he's also extremely arrogant and many of his more deadly powers require outside sources of Materia that he does not always carry on his person.
Boomstick: But even without his outside Materia, Sephiroth is definitely no pushover and will do whatever it takes to get to the core of the problem.
Sephiroth: Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away.
Sigma[]
(*Cues: Boss Appears - Mega Man X*)
Wiz: Sigma was one of the most advanced Reploids of his time. Created by Dr. Cain, Sigma was rigged with the latest circuitry designs to prevent from going Maverick.
Boomstick: Which pretty much means a Reploid has gone evil. Sigma was the leader of the Maverick Hunters and led them to victory many times.
Wiz: Then on one fateful day, everything changed. The Maverick Hunters got a report of a red Maverick that slaughtered a squadron of hunters.
Boomstick: This red Maverick was Zero. Sigma took a team with him to confront Zero.
Wiz: Fearing for the safety of his team, Sigma went to confront Zero alone. In the ensuing battle, Sigma did lose an arm and his face was messed up, but he did come out alive.
Boomstick: But Sigma kind of caught a whiff of Zero's virus. He contained the Maverick Virus.
Wiz: While Zero was cured of all Maverick behavior, Sigma became a monster and the leader of the Mavericks, determined to take over the world and eradicate all humans. Until he was destroyed by Mega Man X.
Boomstick: But thanks to a special virus he created called the Sigma Virus, he returned.
Wiz: The Sigma Virus was Sigma's true form, meaning he could always come back with a new body.
(*Cues: Sigma Battle 01 - Mega Man X3*)
Boomstick: As a Reploid and former Maverick Hunter leader, Sigma is incredibly crafty and dangerous. He's used a number of different weaponry depending on the body.
Wiz: He's used a beam sword in combat as well as Wolverine claws.
Boomstick: He can also fire five homing orbs, carries an energy shield, and can shoot fireballs.
Wiz: Sigma can also throw his Energy Shield. He's also got an Energy Scythe, laser eyes, a teleporter, and energy waves.
Boomstick: He can fly, launch electric walls, reflect back projectiles, and carries around laser guns.
(*Cues: Final Sigma Battle - Mega Man Maverick Hunter X*)
Wiz: With his many bodies and persistent nature, Sigma has proven to be a powerful threat. He's strong enough to break through Zero's, fast enough to keep up with Zero, and take hits from him.
Boomstick: Just how strong is Zero, you may ask? Well, he may have been featless, he was built to be better than the original Mega Man.
Wiz: Who was strong enough to hold up a fortress, withstand that much pressure, and dodge cannonballs moving towards an entire asteroid belt.
Boomstick: He's even managed to take out a number of Reploids efficiently. But while he's skilled and ruthless, he's not unstoppable.
Wiz: Sigma is often obsessed with finding X's potential more than actually beating him. And he's also totally insane. But one thing is certain, no firewall is strong enough to block out the Sigma Virus.
Sigma: 'It's not over yet, X! The battle! The angst! The destruction! I will make you understand the true potential of Reploids!"
Pre-Death Battle[]
Wiz: Alright. The combatants are set. Let's end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTTTTTTTTTTTTTLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Death Battle[]
(*Cues: Gloomy Caves - Golden Sun*)
Sephiroth was launching Fire Materia all over Nibelheim. People ran away, but most were hit by the Fire Materia. Sephiroth laughed as he watched the people run and flee in misery. He pointed the Masamune at the mayor, whom he had tied to a post.
Sephiroth: Oh, this small little town brings back such great memories. And I'm going to enjoy conquering it to make you all suffer.
A beam of light was falling down. This beam caught Sephiroth's eye. The beam revealed itself to be Sigma, who drew out his energy blade.
Sigma: Sorry, pal. But if anyone's taking this place over, it's gonna be me.
Sephiroth: If you knew what you were dealing with, you'd walk away right now.
Sephiroth readied his sword for battle.
Sigma: Well then. I guess it's a good thing I don't know what I'm dealing with.
Fight!
(*Cues: The Raising Fighting Spirit - Naruto*)
Sigma disappeared, catching Sephiroth off-guard. He then slashed at Sephiroth's hip, causing him to put his arm there and limp in pain. Sephiroth used his Fire Materia to cauterize his wound and used Regen to regain his health. Sephiroth took flight and started firing rocks at him. Sigma destroyed them with his sword.
Sephiroth flew down and proceeded to stab Sigma, but the renegade Reploid parried each strike. They started to engage in a swordfight with neither gaining an upper hand. Sephiroth was about to slash down on Sigma until he teleported. Sigma reappeared behind Sephiroth and stabbed him in the back and threw him into a house.
Sephiroth used Regen to heal his wound again and fired lightning at Sigma, but he blocked with his sword.
Sigma: How can you still be alive after being impaled in the chest?
Sephiroth: I don't think you've met anyone like me.
(*Cues: The Cyborg Fights - One Punch Man*)
Sephiroth started firing ice to freeze Sigma, but Sigma launched fireballs to melt the ice and hit Sephiroth, but he was okay. Sigma fired five homing orbs towards Sephiroth, but he used Reflect and sent them back at Sigma. Sigma activated his reflector and sent them back. Sephiroth used Reflect again. Sigma used Reflect and teleported in front of Sephiroth, surprising him.
Sigma teleported back to his previous position and let Sephiroth get hit by all five energy orbs. Sigma brought out his energy Scythe and threw it at Sephiroth, but he used Reflect and sent it back, but Sigma caught it, put it away and got out his Energy Shield. Sigma teleported near Sephiroth and rammed Sephiroth with his Shield.
He then threw it and caught it back and fired his eye beams which hit Sephiroth's hands, causing him to drop his weapon. Sephiroth picked up his weapon. As he started rise back up, he saw Sigma standing right in front of him. Caught off-guard, Sephiroth was defenseless as Sigma impaled Sephiroth and fired his eye lasers at Sephiroth's face, causing him to scream in agony.
Sigma: Bwahahahahahaha! Fool! You should have quit when you had the chance!
With a malicious smile, Sigma threw up Sephiroth's body and as Sephiroth was gonna land headfirst, Sigma cut off his head.
Sigma: This town is now mine! Do what you will with the body.
K.O!
- Sigma freed the mayor and made him his butler
- Sephiroth's body was taken to be burned
Post-Death Battle[]
(*Cues: Sigma's Theme - Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite*)
Boomstick: Talk about one virus Sephy can't cure.
Wiz: While both fighters were equally skilled, Sigma simply overpowered Sephiroth. First, when it came to strength, Sephiroth could block a sixteen hundred ton strike, but Sigma, being able to overpower Zero, meant he could contend with people built to handle sixty thousand tons, over thirty seven times stronger than Sephiroth can do.
Boomstick: And when it came to speed, Sigma being able to keep up with Zero made him so much faster than Sephiroth.
Wiz: Even when counting the Bahamut Fury feat, that's still one hundred and thirty five thousand times slower than Zero's asteroid feat.
Boomstick: And while Sephiroth did have numerous elemental abilities, Sigma's battles against X and Zero prove that he can take on people with versatility.
Wiz: And despite Sephiroth's healing abilities, he wouldn't be fast enough to initiate them in time.
Boomstick: But Wizard, what about Sephiroth's Safer and Bizarro form? Why couldn't he use those?
Wiz: The same reason why Sigma couldn't use his giant forms. Sephiroth does not have easy access to thse many forms. He requires a huge amount of Materia which he can only get from the Planet's Core.
Boomstick: Sephiroth got rendered Masamoot.
Wiz: The winner is Sigma.
Mega Man X VS Final Fantasy VII!!
They're nigh unkillable. They constantly come back stronger and stronger in newer bodies, much to the despair of the heroes who constantly strike them down. But when the Maverick Leader fights against the One-Winged Angel, which one will be able to permanently kill the other?!
Interlude[]
MegaSonic: They are two of gaming’s most infamous villains. They’ve got commanding presences, a burning distaste for humanity, hard as hell boss fights, and they can’t stop fucking coming back after death!.
Sharaku: It’s time to see if one of them can actually put the other down for good.
MegaSonic: Sigma, the former Maverick Hunter turned unkillable Maverick.
Sharaku: And Sephiroth, First Class Soldier turned One Winged Angel.
Sharaku: He’s MegaSonicZX and I’m Sharaku Jr.!
MegaSonic: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Sigma[]
Sharaku: The year is 21XX. Long gone is the war between the forces of Doctor Light and Doctor Wily. The world is at peace, and now more populated too, as a new type of Robot has been created. Reploids, as they were called, were robots that could think and act on their own accord, free of any limitations. And that ended up biting them in the ass.
MegaSonic: See, all the Reploids were based on the schematics of Mega Man X, who had over 100 years of beta testing before he was released onto the world, which these Reploids didn’t. This caused them to go Maverick, a state in which a Reploid turns on humans and even other Reploids, usually to just start causing murders. As such, an elite teaming of Reploids was created to combat the Mavericks, known as Maverick Hunters. And their leader was the toughest Reploid around, Sigma.
Sharaku: A natural leader and seemingly unstoppable, every Maverick that crossed Sigma ended up a pile of scrap, until he did battle with a Maverick that had awoken from a hundred year nap. Though Sigma defeated this Maverick, who would later be cured and go on to become the hero known as Zero, Sigma had changed. A virus had infected and merged with him, which would later be known as the Sigma Virus, and soon caused him to spiral out of control and go Maverick himself. This, combined with his want to see Mega Man X’s full potential, unleashed something in Sigma.
MegaSonic: Like, you know, the desire to nuke an entire city and insight a war between Reploids and Mavericks to spur Reploid evolution until they wiped out humanity and became the dominant species on Earth. Are we sure he wasn’t infected with the Skynet virus? Because this is just Terminator all over again.
Sharaku: He may as well have been. Calling upon eight of his former Maverick Hunters as his generals, Sigma took to conquering every corner of the Earth. But, one by one, each was systematically defeated by the one who he sought to battle, X. Facing him atop his flying fortress, X was able to defeat Sigma once and for all, through growing and changing, proving X’s unlimited potential and Sigma’s huge hubris.
MegaSonic: Except, if you’ve ever played one of these games, you know that’s total bullshit. Sigma's consciousness prevails in the Sigma Virus, and every time he dies, he just possesses a new host body. Huh, if I had a nickel for every time we covered a forever reincarnating villain who keeps possessing new host bodies to stalk the protagonist, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Sharaku: Sigma’s various forms have had quite the expansive arsenal of weapons, from forehead lasers to Lightsabers, wolverine claws and energy shields, a laser scythe, energy wave projectiles and teleportation, whatever you want, he’s got it. As a famed former Maverick Hunter and an exceptional strategist, Sigma combines both of these facets into his fighting styles. For as many bodies Sigma has, he’s got some way of fighting differently. He’s a real wildcard.
MegaSonic: He has a flamethrower, electrokinetic abilities, built in flight capabilities, and a habit of infecting mechanical lifeforms to serve his bidding, or turn them into suitable host bodies. And if his more humanoid forms aren’t enough, he even regularly possesses giant forms several stories high, complete with city destroying energy blasts. Sigma’s sheer versatility can’t be understated, but the Sigma Virus truly is his most valuable ability, as it allows him to constantly resurrect from death. But even that has its limits, as it cannot corrupt organic life, certain Reploids are just outright immune to the Virus’s corruption, and X6 and X8 show that even without “Anti Virus weapons”, the Sigma Virus can only resurrect Sigma himself so many times before he begins to burn out. His final defeat in X8 even showed him dying, for good, without any sort of special anti virus program being used. Sigma and the Virus, while linked, are separate entities and it’s important to remember that.
Sharaku: This doesn’t mean Sigma is incapable of awesome power. The guy has a knack for coming back stronger (almost) every time, getting more and more bullshit as he upgrades himself. He regularly fights against the likes of X and Zero, who scale above the original Mega Man - due to specifically being made to surpass him. Mega Man was able to keep up with the Evil Robot Trio, the counterpart to Duo. Duo is regularly stated to be an inter-galactic police robot, meaning he’s capable of absolutely insane speeds.
MegaSonic: X and Zero can even match and surpass Duo’s speeds, having dodged Optic Sunflower’s Shining Ray. The Shining Ray moves at the speed of light, meaning X & Zero’s top speed is simply Lightspeed, right? Wrong. See, during special Limit Break attacks, they’re capable of striking enemies so fast that time, including this light speed ray is frozen. To do this, they would have to be moving over 4,600,000 times faster than light. And since Sigma has matched Ultimate Armor X and Black Mode Zero, which are roughly four times faster than their base forms, this means Sigma can move over 18 billion times the speed of light.
Sharaku: Finally, in Mega Man Xtreme, Sigma was able to recreate Wheel Gator’s stage containing a sky full of stars which previously hadn’t been there to begin with. Since this cyberworld where Xtreme takes place in functions similarly to the cyberworld in the Battle Network series, it’s certainly not strange to say that Sigma has this kind of regular power output, considering he also can scale to X and Zero in X8, who defeated Lumine. He was able to destroy a star in his boss fight as well.
MegaSonic: But of course, even with all that power, Sigma’s abandoned humanity proved to be his undoing. He never could understand or match X and Zero’s limitless potential, finally leading to his defeat and death on the moon, and eventually his Maverick Wars came to an end. And yet, one could still argue that if not for this war, it would not have pushed forwards the events that led to true peace between humans and reploids. Perhaps Sigma’s desire for evolution did lead to a better future, even if it’s not the future he had in mind.
Sigma: "Wallow in despair and hopelessness! The plan to destroy the world you so love is finally coming to fruition! I shed no tears for you and your kind! Ha ha ha ha ha! It will all be over soon!"
Sephiroth[]
Sharaku: Millions of years ago, the Cetra, a powerful race of humanoid beings, migrated to Gaia. The Cetra could become in near-perfect sync with nature and the powerful force underneath the planet itself, the Lifestream, a mystical flow of energy where everything is born from and returns to upon death.
MegaSonic: They also, supposedly, knew how to find the ancient “Promised Land”, which held an infinite amount of Mako, the energy produced by the Lifestream. This caught the attention of the Shinra Electric Power Company, who compressed Mako into energy to run and rule cities. But since all known Cetra were supposedly extinct, they turned to option b, a different type of space alien named Jenova…who was dead.
Sharaku: Not the type to give up however, Shinra started experimenting with Jeova’s cells to create an ultimate being. One which could become a leader to find the Promised Land and acquire the infinite stream of Mako. An individual who would become a practically unstoppable force of power. Someone who has a knack for burning down towns. The name given to this super soldier was Sephiroth.
MegaSonic: Because this electric power company absolutely needed its own private military. What the hell, they already basically ruled the world anyways. After becoming the hero of the Wutai War, Sephiroth became a legend across the world which Shinra effectively ruled, his actions even inspiring others to join the SOLDIER program.
Sharaku: One of these was Cloud Strife, who wished to become a top-of-the-line First Class SOLDIER… we’ll get back to him in a bit. After Sephiroth was a decorated war hero, he went on a scouting mission passing through the village of Nibelheim, where he found a Mako reactor. There was where he discovered the truth about himself.
MegaSonic: He was a mere clone, a tool to be used by Shinra’s selfish desires to find the promised land. Snapping from the horrid truth of his existence and unable to handle this existential crisis, Sephiroth…burns Nibelhime to the ground, slaughtered damn near everyone, and returned to the Mako Reactor to reunite with his mother where he engaged in battle with Zac- I mean Cloud! Yes…Cloud. He fought Cloud…we’ll get back to this later.
Sharaku: Sephiroth was not only impaled by Cloud’s famous Buster Sword, but he was also tossed directly into the Lifestream. Such a thing would ordinarily have one’s own essence directly reabsorbed back into it, but not this guy. Apparently, Shinra made him good enough to withstand even that kinda stuff. Either that, or the Cetra are way more durable than I thought.
MegaSonic: As Sephiroth drifted through the endless sea of human soul’s, he instead gained the ability to control those who possessed Jenova’s Cells like puppets on strings, manipulating them into doing his bidding to eventually restore his body. And that’s a scary thought, given Sephiroth possesses a superhuman stature far above your average JRPG protagonist, and wielders to oversized Masamune katana in battle. This seven foot long blade can only be wielded by him, and he can even spawn as many copies of it as need be! Oh but what truly makes Sephiroth scary is his seemingly infinite supply of magic.
Sharaku: But if you think that’s all he’s got, you’d be sorely mistaken. Due to his special abilities, Sephiroth can use an absurd amount of magic. He can wield the elements with Firaga, Thundaga and Blizzaga, creating barriers with Scintilla, shake the earth itself with Quake, alter gravity with Demi, negate status effects with Esuna, and can create hovering orbs of black magic with Shadow Flare. That move is a bitch in Smash.
MegaSonic: He can fly, use telekinesis, cast illusions, nuke foes with Gigaflare, throw energy blades from his Masamune, and possess numerous special sword techniques like Heaven’s Light and the famous Octaslash. Should Sephiroth grow tired of a battle however, he’s likely to end things with Heartless Angel, casting dark feathers that will just straight up delete your health bar. And no, Heartless Angel is not called “Sin Harvest”.
Sharaku: And after a while, Sephiroth kinda just had enough and one day, just showed up to kill the President of Shinra. Funnily enough, Cloud Strife and his friends were in that exact same building, going by the name of AVALANCHE. Yeah, he didn’t exactly kill the President in the most subtle way. After all, impaling the dude on your gigantic katana and just leaving it there for others to find is a good way to tip people off that you’re back and you’re especially pissed.
MegaSonic: This was Sephiroth’s warning. The end of the world was nigh. He would manipulate both the now disorganized Shinra and AVALANCHE through Cloud to bring him what he sought, the Black Matera. But how did he manipulate Cloud you asked? Well it’s quite simple! See, originally Cloud didn’t actually make the SOLDIER program, his friend Zack did. It was Zack who fought Sephiroth, though Cloud was the one to impale Sephiroth. Zack and Cloud were then captured and experimented on by Shinra for four years, and both were infused with Jenova’s cells. One of Sephiroth’s new abilities is to control anyone infused with Jenova’s cells, so he just mindfucked Cloud into giving him the Black Matera, and then dipped to go cause the end of the world. See, simple.
Sharaku: …If I didn’t already know all this, I’d have no idea what you just said. A-anyways, those very same cells have allowed Sephiroth to summon clones of his “mother” to fight his foes, all with a kick-ass boss theme. Jenova-Birth, Jenova-Life, Jenova-Death and Jenova-Synthesis are incredibly powerful remnants of the original being who each have their own special abilities, such as hydrokinesis, controlling wind or just fuckin’ firing a good old laser at you.
MegaSonic: Sephiroth himself was no less dangerous at this point, with his Bizzaro form, and the much more iconic Safer-Sephiroth and his iconic theme, the One Winged Angel. Y-ya know, because of the black wing. It’s symbolic! Oh yeah, he can also use the Black Materia to summon meteors that can destroy worlds, but by now it’s time we talk about his most powerful ability. His limit break. The one. The only. SUPERNOVA! …*insert groan here* God this move is such a headache.
Sharaku: Not only is it hard to figure out, it also drags on for two minutes straight in game! No joke, one time I was playing VII and Sephiroth hit me with a Supernova. I got up, made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, sat back down and the animation was still fuckin’ playing out. Aside from possibly boring players to death with how many times he uses the damn thing, Supernova is an absolutely nuts special move. Not only does he destroy an entire solar system with the thing, the entire dimensional space which included a massive galaxy goes bye-bye as well. Additionally, it can even inflict status effects, just in case incinerating your opponent with a sun explosion wasn’t enough.
MegaSonic: And Sephiroth UPSCALES from this shit, because when he later returned in Advent Children after his loss at the end of FF7, he was ragdolling Cloud while being nowhere near his full power in the movie. Also, don’t expect an analysis on how the move works, because nobody can fucking agree on that shit and I’m not touching it with his Masamune. Also he has a new form, his One Wing form. Idk, it makes him stronger or shit. He could already fly without it anyways. They just wanted to use the good song.
Sharaku: All that power is extra deadly behind his absurd speed as well, since he can scale to Bahamut Fury flying between planets in around 12 seconds, a speed which would reach twelve hundred times the speed of light. But that’s not all. Supernova’s meteor can fly throughout the galaxy within an incredibly short timeframe. Despite the animation for Supernova itself being long, the same cannot be said for the activation part of it, as the meteor can traverse the galaxy and plunge itself into the sun at around 20 trillion times faster than the speed of light. Plus, Sephiroth got way stronger, as he literally shrugged off and deflected Cloud’s Omnislash in Advent Children. The same move that killed him the first time around. As such, Sephiroth should reasonably upscale to this speed as well.
MegaSonic: And he uh…he still isn’t dead. His consciousness is still in the lifestream, and he doesn’t plan on going away until he’s beaten Cloud and destroyed the planet in some way. He’s possessed his sort-of son Kadaj, and hell he might’ve even gone back in time to do it if the theory FF7 Remake Sephiroth is Sephiroth from the original games time traveling. This man is dedicated to stalking Cloud no matter how absurd his methods of doing so get.
Sharaku: He’s like a bad nightmare. No matter how many times you seem to be free of him, he always comes back, despite his insistence to “never be a memory,” whatever that means. Even when Cloud’s messing around with Disney characters or with Mario and pals, Sephiroth always finds his way to weasel himself into wherever his nemesis goes... Oh, shit! I forgot! Any time he takes a shower he uses an entire bottle of shampoo!
MegaSonic: We’re really ending it on that…okay then.
Sephiroth: “Seven seconds ‘til the end. Time enough for you, perhaps. But what will you do with it? Let’s see.”
Pre-Battle[]
MegaSonic: Alright the combatants are set, it’s time to end this debate once and for all.
Sharaku: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!
Fight!![]
Cues: One Winged Devil - Brandon Yates
(Mako Reactor)
An explosion rings out as two humans fall to the ground, one being crushed under a pile of rubble as the other looks up in terror before he’s promptly killed as Sigma walks in, accompanied by a group of Mavericks.
Sigma: Eliminate the humans! This reactor is ours!
Maverick’s: Yes, Lord Sigma!
As the Mavericks spread out, Sigma notices a black feather fall to the floor before him, and he suddenly turns around to see none other than the One Winged Angel, Sephiroth.
Sigma: Hmm, I don’t believe I’ve seen you before. State your business with us. If you’re here to stand in our way of taking the Mako energy here, you’ll face the same fate as these humans here.
Sephiroth: You intend to corrupt the Lifestream from here, don’t you…? I’m afraid Gaia wouldn’t want your presence anywhere close to her.
Sigma: So, you intend to strike me down? Come, then. Your corpse will be one more to add to the pile.
Summoning the Masamune with one hand, Sephiroth leaped into battle as swing it forwards, clashing it against Sigma’s energy blade. The two exchanged scowls, Sephiroth jumping back before disappearing, rapidly appearing around Sigma in a burst of speed before moving to strike the Maverick several times in rapid succession.
Teleporting out of the attack combo, Sigma fired the laser from his forehead to take out the ground, throwing Sephiroth back as Sigma charged straight for him, energy cackling in his hand as he grabbed Sephiroth and slammed him into the ground.
Sigma: Foolish! No human will ever defeat a Reploid!
As Sigma raised his boot to crush Sephiroth’s head, however, Sephiroth suddenly vanished behind Sigma, a glare in his eyes as he looked back.
Sephiroth: I’m no human. I’m above such things.
Growling in fury, Sigma summoned a series of energy bolts and fired them off, Sephiroth responding in kind as he cast Shadow Flare to counter the various attacks, at the same time he leaped into the air and began avoiding several shots from Sigma’s blaster rifle. Sephiroth cut through the last blast with the Masamune, reflecting the energy onto the group of Mavericks who had been watching the fight from a distance. Sigma, not caring in the slightest, drew his energy blade again, but Sephiroth had no desire to engage in another sword clash. Casting Megaflare, the former SOLDIER fired a blue sphere of flames at the ground where Sigma was running towards him.
A large explosion engulfed the small area, sending the Reploid flying. Sephiroth appeared directly above Sigma, making absolutely sure that he could see his smirk as he stabbed directly into Sigma’s body with his Masamune. Not once, but several times in rapid succession, making sure to cut into another vital aspect of Sigma’s cybernetic body, severing wire after wire until Sigma’s body was sliced into nothing but spare parts. Landing on the floor gracefully, Sephiroth casually crushed the skull of Sigma underneath his foot, the lights in his eyes sparking and blinking out.
Sephiroth: Waste of time.
Sigma: DIEEEEEE!!
Suddenly, a hand shot through the air and grabbed Sephiroth by the face, a second physical body of Sigma’s as he grabbed the former SOLDIER and began dragging him along the floor, laughing menichally as he threw Sephiroth into the air and summoned his Plasma Scythe, using it to cut open a clean fresh wound on Sephiroth’s body.
Sigma: Hahaha! You cannot kill me! I am Sigma, and I am immortal!
Throwing his scythe through the air, Sephiroth knocked it away with a swing of his Masamune, casting Curega to heal himself as he sighed, already irritated with his battle.
Sephiroth: Very well. I shall give you despair.
Sigma charging forwards at him, Sephiroth raised one hand before he lowered it, crushing Sigma under the weight of increased gravity before raising his hand again and throwing Sigma into the ceiling. Flying after him, Sigma summoned his large Sigma Blade and swung it downwards to clash with the Masamune, the two flying through the air as sparks flew from the high speed duel.
Calling up his magic, Sephiroth fired off a Thundaga that Sigma blocked through the use of his Energy Shield before throwing it at Sephiroth, who called upon Scintilla to deflect the shield. Throwing waves of energy from his sword, Sephiroth scoffed as Sigma charged through the attacks and got in close, only for Sephiroth to disappear behind him and charging up before unleashing eight consecutive slashes from his sword, slicing through Sigma’s body and letting the limbs fall to the ground.
As Sigma’s head fell, Sephiroth stabbed the Masamune through the mouth of Sigma’s now severed head, his ice cold glare staring Sigma in the eyes…as he noticed a shadow towering above him. Turning around, Sephiroth flicked his wrist and tossed the head away as he looked at the Final Sigma W towering above him.
Cues: Sigma's Theme - Mega Man X2 (DiVE Remix)
Sigma: WITNESS OBLIVION!
A giant hand shot through the air and grabbed Sephiroth’s body, charging his body with a massive surge of electricity, frying him before tossing the former SOLDIER’s body up into the air before crushing him between both of his massive hands. Merely phasing out, Sephiroth unsheathed his black wing and observed the new foe that he faced before him.
Sephiroth: How pitiful.
Sigma laughed at Sephiroth’s insult, his evil cackle making itself heard across the entire base. Sephiroth was little more than irritated, but even he knew that something had to be done about the huge Sigma.
Sigma: You’re the one who shall fall before me! Many have stood in my way, but none have succeeded in killing me forever! What makes you think that someone as weak as yourself will be the one to do so?!
Sephiroth: Simple.
Sephiroth’s body began to glow with raw power as the area was engulfed in a huge light. His body grew to an enormous size as many other wings sprouted out of it. Spreading his arms, Safer Sephiroth unleashed a huge wave of energy, pushing Final Sigma W back.
Sephiroth: It’s a god’s job to crush ants.
Casting a series of elemental attacks, Sigma grunted as he was barraged with several Firaga and Thundaga Spells, using one of his hands as a shield before he released a pulse of energy that blasted Safer Sephiroth back. Sephiroth however, seemed hardly phased as he drew all his power together and unleashed a Gigaflare that he cast directly in Sigma’s face, blowing away the synthetic flesh and revealing the more steely face underneath.
That face, however, then opened its mouth to reveal a cannon inside that charged up and unleashed a huge green blast that engulfed the sky, Sephiroth raising his hand and sending a meteor flying through the sky as well as the energy beam before impaling itself into the torso of the Final Sigma W, the meteor becoming stuck and poking out of both ends.
Sigma however, showed no hesitation as it used the chance to grab Safer Sephiroth and began electrocuting him with all his remaining power, Sigma laughing as he heard Sephiroth yell in pain and began beating on his face, and then cackling as the form of Safer Sephiroth disappeared and vanished.
Sigma: At it should be! No being can match my power!
Transferring his consciousness back into his ground body, Sigma walked through the Mako Reactor as one of his hands began glowing purple when he approached the plant’s direct connection to the Lifestream. He raises his hand, prepared to shove it in, and thrust his arm forwards.
…
Cues: One Winged Angel - Final Fantasy VII (Distant Worlds)
His hand had been caught. Sigma’s eyes widened as Sephiroth emerged from the lifestream, now without his coat, but his single raven black wing extended outwards as Sephiroth threw Sigma backwards.
Sephiroth: You will not lay a hand on the Lifestream.
Sigma: Grrrr! YOU WILL DIE SCREAMING!
The Mako Reactor shook as several of Sigma’s various bodies fell through the ceiling, surrounding Sephiroth as he threw the primary Sigma body back and summoned his Masamune again.
Without a word, Sephiroth leaped through the air and instantly decapitated the nearest Sigma before turning and engaging the next one in a duel, clashing blades with it before casting Shadow Flare to start targeting multiple Sigma’s.
Feathers flew through the air as Sigma went on the offensive, claws on his hands striking at Sephiroth and pushing him backwards. Another Sigma charged from behind him, but Sephiroth reacted quickly and gripped the Masamune in both hands as he heaved it around, slicing into the torso of the Sigma coming behind him before making a full 360-degree turn and carving the clawed Sigma in half vertically.
Sephiroth: What a joke.
The ground shook as Kaiser Sigma landed, two more of his bodies flying beside it and spraying down covering fire. A few of the bolts actually struck Sephiroth, but he quickly cast Scintilla to shield himself before he noticed more and more Sigma bodies were making their way into the facility.
Calling on his power, Sephiroth waved one arm out as feathers engulfed the room, something Sigma hadn’t been expecting.
Sephiroth: Descend, Heartless Angel.
In an instant, Sephiroth made his way through Sigma’s various bodies, carving them into pieces before he clashed against the Sigma Blade, as Sigma was determined to survive, even if his body appeared more grotesque and less-human. The Sigma Blade and Masamune clashed as Sephiroth leaped back, flying through the air as he exchanged blows with Sigma yet again.
Sigma: Are you ready to die? A mere human cannot match the power of me!
Sephiroth: It’s time to end this. Return to the planet.
Raising his hand, Sigma gasped at reality around him, cracking, fading away in an instant to reveal…space. Empty space. The only light glowing bright orange behind Sephiroth. A star.
Sigma: What…is this!?
Sephiroth: Behold, the truth. Supernova. You claim to be immortal, but you will die here, forgotten.
As the meteor flew by, eclipsing Sigma and impacting the star, the Supernova began rapidly expanding, incinerating everything in its path, Sigma included. As Sigma screamed in agony and began burning away, in both body and mind, Sephiroth left him with one final remark.
Sephiroth: But I… will never be a memory.
Sigma could not retort, his body’s vocal cords had burned away, and soon the rest of his body did as well. Disappearing, Sephiroth returned to the Mako Reactor, the surrounding area quiet, peaceful.
Until footsteps began approaching.
Sephiroth: Good to see you…Cloud. And I see you’ve brought a friend.
Sephiroth turns around, gripping Masamune as he stared down Cloud Strife, and Mega Man X.
K.O.!!
Post-Analysis[]
Sharaku: Allow us to show you all the newest addition to our restaurant’s menu: Fried Sigma!
MegaSonic: This was certainly a doozy of a matchup to decide the winner on, not the least of which because both possessed methods of resurrection that could potentially cause this fight to go on for an infinite amount of time. In some cases, this would certainly be a draw, in a few more Sigma may have won, but more often than not, the One Winged Angel was destined to win this fight.
Sharaku: Sephiroth and Sigma both had a huge arsenal of abilities. Sigma with his multiple bodies, mechs and what-have had a decent chance of potentially overwhelming Sephiroth. ON PAPER. That chance becomes more and more slim when you realize that many of Sigma’s trump cards would simply be ineffective against his foe. The most obvious example is Sigma’s pure inability to corrupt Sephiroth, as he was an entirely organic being. But Sephiroth also counters a lot of Sigma’s own abilities. As unique as he is, existing as both a virus and a data being, many of the Reploid’s physical attacks weren’t anything that Sephiroth hasn’t dealt with before. Remember, he not only fought against Cloud, but the entirety of AVALANCHE too, and has since gotten far stronger.
MegaSonic: Sigma, simply put, had little chance of overwhelming Sephiroth, especially given when we compare their best speed feats and scaling, Sephiroth was over a thousand times faster than Sigma, and while Sigma scaling to destroying a small solar system sized pocket dimension was impressive, it doesn’t quite stand up to Sephiroth being able to potentially tank galaxy busting Supernovas. The trickiest part of this, then, was determining if either could even really kill the other, stats aside. Unfortunately for Sigma though, even if we assumed he COULD kill Sephiroth’s body, he had no way of erasing Sephiroth’s consciousness from the Lifestream. Meaning he couldn’t permanently kill Sephiroth no matter how hard he tried.
Sharaku: On the other hand, Sigma has been permanently killed on two separate occasions. First off, in Mega Man X5, Sigma was actually completely destroyed thanks to the efforts of X and Zero. It was clear that the dude was totally crumbling. He really came back in X6 due to Gate bringing him back from the grave, and even then he hardly functioned properly. Secondly, in Mega Man X8, he was also destroyed due to being nowhere near anything that he could possess, and the combined might of X, Zero and Axl overwhelmed him. Even then, he was practically a meat puppet for Lumine. Or… metal puppet.
MegaSonic: Which means that all Sephiroth had to do was hit Sigma with an attack hard enough to completely burn out both his body and virus mind. You know, like a fucking Supernova. And that’s assuming Sephiroth didn’t just bfr Sigma and send him into space for all eternity. Sigma’s ferocity was great, and he certainly had a chance of winning, but he couldn’t stack up to Sephiroth’s greater array of magic, blinding speed, overwhelming power, and unstoppable immortality.
Sharaku: Sigma just couldn't materia-lize a chance for victory.
MegaSonic: The winner is Sephiroth.
