Saya Kisaragi is the main protagonist and anti-heroine of the manga/anime series, Blood C.

Saya is a beautiful and quite girl, however underneath that angelic appearance is a vicious warrior who fights monstrous creatures and mercilessly slaughters them in brutal ways possible.

History[]

Set in an alternate universe of Blood the Last Vampire. Saya gained a surname of Kisaragi, and is a high school girl born to a shrine family in the quite province of Ukishima, and is the resident shrine-maiden there.

Saya is a sweet, naive, and clumsy kind of girl who enjoys ordinary school life with her friends by day. By night, she completely turns into a cold and merciless monster-slayer. Hunting monsters called "Elder Bairns" (ancient monsters who feeds on the flesh and blood of humans) which mysteriously appears and feeds on the residents of town. Saya took it upon herself to defend the town and its residents (which she's badly at which always results of casualties by the end of every fight).

Saya is always with her trusty katana everytime she hunts Elder Bairns. And upon encountering them, Saya boldly fights them head-on and usually finishes off her kill in brutal fashion. But as she continues her mission eradicating Elder Bairns, she slowly begins to notice something isn't right in her surroundings and slowly unravels mysteries pertaining her past.

In truth however, everything was fake. Just an act (except for the Elder Bairns and Saya). A ploy. Mostly everyone in town were hired actors, and that Saya is actually an Elder Bairn in human form herself (a unique one that only feast on the blood of other Elder Bairns), and is a subject of an experiment designed by Fumito (the owner of the diner who's always giving Saya free candy called; Guimauve, which was actually made from the blood of Elder Bairns, everytime she stops by at the diner for breakfast right before going to school) for the purpose of unlocking Saya's ability back to feed on humans as she restrained herself through a pact/promise with someone a long time ago that she would not harm humans.

There's a legend behind the Elder Bairns feasting on humans. During ancient times, humans made a covenant with the Elder Bairns called Shrovetide, which allowed them to feast on humans in their vicinity for only during a special time. Fumito's family was one of the two clans in charge of tending the Shrovetide event. In Fumito's time, he killed both of their families for his own personal ambitions. Fascinated by Saya's origin, he decided to undergo an experiment that will unlock back her ability to feast on humans by brainwashing Saya, implanting her false memories, setting up the location, and scenario in fighting the Elder Bairns, as well began creating artificial Elder Bairns he can control using Saya's blood which abolishes the ancient pact.

Saya's true personality is cold, silent, and serious. And upon recovering her lost memories (possibly events from Blood the Last Vampire in where she is linked with the United States Army and Japanese Government, slaying a bat-like creature resembling a Chiropteran, and fighting Fumito's personal army in an airfield before being hunted down, captured and experimented on), she suffered a mental shock of disbelief, despair, and anger. But gains her resolve back shortly after and chases after Fumito into the city, leaving behind a trail of blood and slaughter.

Months later, Saya pursuits Fumito all the way to Tokyo, and briefly joined a group called SIRRUT. Saya fought Fumito's personal soldiers and Elder Bairns right before reaching and ultimately killing Fumito himself.

After Saya was done with her personal mission, she was last seen leaving through the streets of Tokyo. Possibly to parts unknown.

Weapons and Armor[]

  • Ancient Katana: During one of her fights against the Elder Bairns, Saya's initial/fake katana was broken in battle. She was later invited by an otherworldly shopkeeper into his shop to browse for wares. Saya took interest to an old (possibly ancient) katana seemingly fitted to her strength, which was then given to her by the shopkeeper for free. Since then, Saya carries the sword wrap in cloth with her on her travels.
  • Anything Sturdy: Anything that's sharp and can draw blood that Saya wields, is a weapon to her. When disarmed of her sword, anything close to Saya's proximity that she considers sharp enough (ex. steel pipes, broken glass, pointy stones/rocks, etc...) can be a substitute/improvise weapon against her opponents until she recovers back her sword.
  • Light Clothing: Saya travels light, and as such, only wears light clothing such as sailor uniform, which allows her easy movement, swiftness, and maneuverability in battle.

  • Inhuman Physiology: While appearing like a human girl in her teens, Saya is actually an Elder Bairn in human form. Far exceeding human capabilities. Her own kind feeds on the blood, not those from humans, but from other Elder Bairns instead. And it is later revealed that Saya is the actual result of mating between a human and an Elder Bairn. A half Elder Bairn, half human hybrid, which is far more superior to a normal Elder Bairn even.
    • Enhanced Strength: Despite her feminine appearance, Saya is capable of holding her own against enormous Elder Bairns. Even capable of pulling and throwing a huge Elder Bairn many times her size and slashing through them like their butter. Saya is even strong enough to block their strikes with her weapon, and hurt them even while unarmed.
    • Enhanced Speed: Saya is fast enough to unleash a series of consecutive slashes in an instant, and easily blitz her enemies and kill them before they even realize it.
    • Enhanced Agility: Saya is quick on her reflexes and toes, capable of evading an Elder Bairn's strikes, swift in recovering back up, and as well capable of dodging automatic gunfire.
    • Enhanced Senses: With her enhanced senses, particularly her hearing, Saya is capable of hearing an Elder Bairn's roar from miles away. And with her innate ability to sense Elder Bairns, it allows Saya to easily track their location when hunting or pursuing them. Saya also possesses an ability to see vital spots of her enemy, though it's unknown if this is only applicable to the Elder Bairns.
    • Enhanced Resiliency: Saya possessed high tolerance to pain, able to endure almost anything that would otherwise kill a normal human being or even Elder Bairns, and could still fight strong despite having severe injuries inflicted on her body (possibly backed by her self-regeneration ability).
    • Self-Regeneration: Like all incarnations of Saya, Saya Kisaragi possesses an extreme healing factor that repairs even the most grievous of wounds. Though a bit slower compared to the others but still nonetheless effective.
    • Longetivity: Due to Saya's Elder Bairn physiology and blood, this stops her growth and aging. It also possibly grants Saya eternal lifespan. Saya may physically appear in her late teens, but she is actually much, much older than she appears to be.
    • Berserk Mode: If things get tough, Saya can tap into her inner beast and enter a berserk like state which greatly amplifies her abilities, allowing her to move and heal faster, react quicker, increases her senses further, suppresses her injuries, and become much stronger. This also turn her eyes crimson red and she losses a bit of self-restraint.
    • Ailment Resistances: Saya have at least some protection to sleeping gas, tranquilizers and paralysis drugs.
    • Blood Infusion & Mutation: Saya may or may not know it, but her blood can be use as a weapon in a way. When an Elder Bairn is infused by her blood, it allows her control over other them. And when done the same to humans, it instantly turns them into Elder Bairns.
    • Feeding: Feeding on others increases Saya's abilities to exceptional levels. But due to her oath however, it prevents Saya from feeding on humans. Feeding on Elder Bairns on the other hand...

Abilities[]

  • Weapon's Master: With her years of fighting, no doubt Saya is a master of many forms of weapons. She is capable of handling and utilizing anything she could get her hands on, however, she prefers the katana as her signature weapon.
  • Expert Swordswoman: Saya have been trained in the ways of the sword. Notable is Kenjutsu, a martial art and self-defense sword style that utilizes methods and techniques that focuses on harming and killing the opponent using the sword, swinging powerful strikes while being flexible and mobile. Saya has shown herself to be a competent swordswoman while slaying Elder Bairns, precisely slicing them in different parts of the body, mostly the vital parts.
  • Close Quarters Combat: Saya is pretty deadly in unarmed combat too. Even without a weapon on hand, Saya is capable of holding her own using punches and kicks, sometimes holds, during a fight and could even inflict lethal damage to her opponents.
  • Adept Fighter: With years of fighting, Saya is precise enough to locate her opponent’s weak points, quick enough to apply tactics mid-fight, and take extreme caution when fighting her enemies.
  • Athlete: By having enhanced attributes, Saya is capable of performing feats far greater than the world's greatest athletes. She can jump high in a single bound, lift things greater than her size, and sprint fast enough capable of catching up to a moving helicopter. Saya is also highly skilled at basketball.
  • Acrobatic: Like the finest acrobats, Saya is flexible and agile enough to maneuver around the battlefield, and perform flips and turns, even while in mid-air with ease.
  • Tactical: Saya plays smart by using her surroundings, in tandem with her fighting skills and senses during battle to overcome her enemy. She also resorts to tactics by creating diversions to fool her enemies and exploiting their weaknesses before going in for the kill.
  • Slayer: A bane to her kind. Slayed Elder Bairns mercilessly. She seemed to enjoy killing them too.
  • Tracker: Combined with her enhanced senses, makes Saya an excellent tracker when tracking Elder Bairns and her target.

Flaws[]

  • Doesn't handle well when it comes to saving or protecting someone. Most of the residents of her town were killed and devoured by the Elder Bairns (probably intentional on her part as she doesn't care about humans).
  • Doesn't have protection against mental attacks (prone to brainwashing).
  • Semi-guillable.
  • Semi-reckless.
  • Losing a large amount of her blood will make Saya weak, but only for a brief time. Despite this however, a weakened Saya is still seen capable of holding her own against powerful Elder Bairns.
  • Due to a pact with someone from a long time ago, it prevented Saya from harming humans. Though, she can to a degree, critically hurt them, and even accidentally kill them.

Trivia[]

  • Saya Kisaragi shares striking similarities to her original counterpart of Saya from Blood the Last Vampire. Saya Kisaragi is a lot more closer to her original counterpart than the other Saya (Otonashi). Saya is seen wearing a school uniform similar to the Saya of Blood: The Last Vampire Movie as well as Saya's (Blood) occupation that time.
  • Although her origin is a complete mystery, her past greatly shows a time where she is linked to the U.S. Military, and is seen slaying a monster resembling a chiropteran from Blood+. However, the Saya from Blood+ comes from a chiropteran mummy while Saya Kisaragi herself is a hybrid Elder Bairn. Although they both share some similarities, they are both entirely different beings.
  • Saya Kisaragi's voice actress in the Japanese version of the anime is Nana Mizuki. And in the English version, she is voiced by Alexis Tipton.
  • Her birthday is on July 26.
