Yes, this actually has connections. The connections between the two combatants are both are sentient versions of non-sentient things. (Skeletons and oranges respectively) Both adore puns and annoy one of their taller friends (Papyrus and Pear respectively) who believe that they are intelligent, more so than their shorter friends. Both are usually underestimated and are actually really strong and hold a lot of useful hax. Also, both of them have spawned a lot of memes.
