HULK SMASH!
The Hulk Smashes Into DEATH BATTLE!
Description[]
One Punch Man vs Paramount! Two bald headed, overpowered characters from both the East and Western sides of the world are coming together in a fight for the ages! Who wins? The arena looses, that's for sure.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Throughout humankind's tales in our long history, it wasn't uncommon to see depictions of someone who was the world's strongest man. Someone who could take on army after army, fight battle after battle, and yet always come out on top. This trope goes all the way back to the days of old farie tales, and continues to persist into the modern day world.
Boomstick: Indeed it has! Overpowered aliens, Magical Girls, Hellspawns, they come in all different shapes and sizes! But here's the thing though, being overpowered isn't the main idea of their character.. unlike these two.
Wiz: Saitama, the almighty One Punch Man and hero of Z-City!
Boomstick: And Popeye, the spinach eating all out brawling sailor. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skill to find out who would win.. a DEATH BATTLE!
Saitama[]
Wiz: Saitama wasn't always a legendary hero.. or bald. In fact, he used to just be an unemployed man on a hunt for a job. Suddenly though, a monster named Crablante was going after a child with a ballsack chin. Being rather nihilistic about the whole thing though, he decided just to let Crablante do his thing. Until suddenly, the crab jumped at the kid. Getting defensive, he ended up ripping the crabs eyes out. The kid went home to tell his Grandfather, who in turn created the Hero Association to stop things like this from happening ever again.
Boomstick: In order to join the hero's rank, Saitama began an everyday schedule by doing 100 sit ups, 100 push ups, 100 squats, running 1 kilometer, and a good three meals a day. Considering how strong he is, do you believe him? Don't feel bad if you don't, no one in-universe does either.
Wiz: One and a half year later, he became incredibly strong, and while loosing his hair in the process, it was no problem to him! Becoming the strongest man in the world, he got the well deserved nickname of... the One Punch Man! *Hears Boomstick snickering* What?
Boomstick: Sorry, sorry! It's just, I find it rather hilarious that Saitama's main motif is the fact he's the strongest person on Earth, but he's not even close to being the strongest anime character.
Wiz: Well, true, but it is a well deserved title in the anime he's from. Although, that also ended up being his biggest problem. Due to getting so strong, Saitama really doesn't have anyone on his level to give him a real challenge anymore and thus grew incredibly board. Giant meteors, sea monsters, alien invaders, pretty much name the average supernatural threat and he's pretty much killed it no issue. And so Saitama became a rather board warrior, constantly itching for someone to give him a fair fight, but never getting anyone to saitisfy it. But we're also trying to avoid some OPM spoilers here so let's get onto his abilities!
Boomstick: Saitama may not have any real fancy powers like beam attacks for stuff like that, but he easily makes up for it for sheer physical powress. Let's start with his "Normal Series" of attacks... actually this only consist of one real attack: the Consecutive Normal Punches! Saitama creates a whirlwind of red by rapidly punches with his right hand. This can actually blow his opponents to smithereens. And just remember: he's not serious at all when he's throwing these punches around. Now compare that to his Serious Series!~
Wiz: Well actually, Saitama still isn't super serious when using these attacks, just that he looks more serious while doing so. He still doesn't proclaim them to be anything special though. But nontheless, the Serious Punch is no slouch! It pretty much dissipated Boros' Collapsing Star Roaring Canon, which threatened to destroy the entire planet. In order to destroy a planet big as Earth, you would need 1 quardrillion tons on TNT, meaning Saitama is much more powerful than that! Next up is the Serious Side-Hops, which helps Saitama create an afterimage to confuse his opponents.
Boomstick: Saitama actually doesn't have the power to fly, but he can at least make up for it by jumping really well, enough to get him from the Moon back to Earth. Probably also helps he has really good lungs that help him hold his breathe for much longer than anyone else! But it should be noted, even with the fact he's super OP and has never been beaten before, he's still human. Nevetheless, he's still nobody you wanna cross paths with, and an icon that's gonna go down in history!
Saitama: I do not lose. And the surface... is guarded by me!
Popeye[]
Wiz: Born in a mighty typhoon in Santa Monica, to an unnamed woman and a man named.. Poopdeck Pappy. Well someone didn't like their child, *ahem* Popeye eventually became an orphan-
Boomstick: Uh Wiz, I think the term you're looking for is "Orphink".
Wiz: Ugh, I'm sorry, OPRHINK. Poopdeck left for reasons unkown, giving his pipe to his son as a parting gift, and whatever happened to his mother is up in the air. The orphanage keeper kept Popeye away from getting into fights, until he was four years old and finally decided to give the keeper a piece of his mind. After that, Popeye was on the streets, on hard times, and wearing a potato sack for clothes. That was until a good samaritan named Whaler Joe took him in, which soon lead him into his life as a sailor, and also gave him a new pipe to boot!
Boomstick: At age six, Popeye took his promise of excersising more really seriously, taken on all the bullies and sending them heading for the hills! One particular day though, he went on to sea on a vessel, with nothing but a bent pin and a pool of threads as weapons, hoping to hunt some whales and make Joe proud!.. Only when he got there, he quickly realized he really wasn't up to the task. The whales thrashed the ship effortlessly, but when the alpha male sent a jet of water in his way, he just SNAPPED. With one punch, he instantly killed the alpha whale, decimated the entire pod, and then dragged all of them back to Whaler Joe. Just as a reminder, at the time, he was only SIX. YEARS. OLD. No wonder he's so strong as an adult!
FIGHT![]
Results and Analysis[]
Music Track[]
The fights track name is "Sailing Into Danger" by Brandon Yates. The music ends up taking many forms, but mostly comprises of classic cartoon music from the Golden Age of Animation, mixed in with a rock piece that would feel like something out of a Shonen anime, lampshading the fact this fight features the more classic era Popeye came from, versus the much more slick and modern Saitama. Tons of other themes are jumbled in though, representing just how bizarre the fight ends up getting.
The title is a reference to Popeye being a sailor, and how both combatants can jump into any threats path, look it in the eye, and take it down without fear.
The album's cover it has Saitama and Popeye side by side in a similar fashion to Ryu vs. Jin, with two major differences. Both characters look like they're wearing there respective uniforms instead of just a white and red outline of them, and it goes much farther down their bodies, cutting off just at the feet this time. Popeye is also carrying a can of spinach in his hand.
