Description[]
Two shadows in the night, both adept and taking down their foes with their skills and weapons, masters of deception and stealth, which one has better tricks and skills to defeat the other, and claim the night for themself? Find out in this Death Battle.
Intro[]
Skunk: The night is dangerous, full of crime, and dark intentions.
Skel: Lucky for the innocent people, they got guardians that come out at night to help defeat these criminals.
Skunk: General Ryo, Vengeful Aragami Spirit.
Skel: And Batman, The Dark Knight. He's Skunk and I'm Skel.
Skunk: And it's our job to research their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win, a Death Battle!
General Ryo Enters The Shadows Of Death Battle![]
Skunk: Ninja, they are the soldiers of the night, warriors of the dark.
Skel: The Japanese version of the FBI!
Skunk: ...
Skel: No?
Skunk: General Ryo, was once a, well, living general, he commanded armies to victory, was the best, winning war after war.
Skel: Until the fire nation attacked!
Skunk: No, the Nisshoku attacked.
Skel: Yeah, sure.
Skunk: Ryo was on the run with his friends, hiding from the dark armies, training to defeat their leader, the Shadow Empress.
Skel: Shadow Empress? Can't they think of something better, like "Dreaded Dark Queen"?
Skunk: Focus on the story.
Skel: Ok, ok.
Skunk: Ryo eventually trained enough, gathered enough people, and planned enough to face the Shadow Empress. Little did he know, it would cost him his life.
Skel: Then he gained a whole new life by being re-birthed as a shadow!
Skunk: Revived to carry out a single goal. Revenge.
Skel: Yeah, the girl who summoned him wanted him to teach her captors a lesson, as in, kill them and set her free.
Skunk: Going on his quest, Ryo was unaware of what was really happening, he was being used.
Skel: Yeah, Yamiko, the girl who summoned him, was actually the Shadow Empress the whole time! And Ryo was killing his former friends!
Skunk: And once Ryo realized this, he decided to end it all, and it ended the same way as before, Ryo sacrificing himself to rid the world of the Shadow Empress.
Skel: I bet you're wondering "How did he manage this amazing feat?" Well, let us tell you about Ryo and his awesome powers!
Ryo's Powers[]
- Light, Dark, & Life Essence
- Allows Ryo to control light and darkness
- Ryo has enhanced capabilities
- Shadow Techniques
- Kunai lets Ryo throw kunai blades
- Sakkaku lets Ryo make a shadow clone that explodes, blinding those nearby
- Banmoku grants Ryo the brief capability of seeing people through walls, as well as know where they are looking
- Kage grants Ryo total invisibility and silences his movements
- Kurosuna lets Ryo use a shadow-like dust to blind those he uses it on
- Ryo can teleport between shadows, as well as create pockets of shadow where there isn't focused light
- Can create mini-black holes with Shinen, on surfaces or a person's back
- Can summon a shadow dragon to totally devour and erase a person's body
Skunk: Ryo, as an Aragami, possesses Shadow Essence, allowing him to use various powers, such as make a blinding mist, create fake clones, and throw shadow kunai at his foes to kill them.
Skel: He also can place down traps that suck you into the shadow realm!
Skunk: Well... yeah, actually, that is pretty much what happens when he uses Shinen. He also can summon a shadow dragon to get rid of unaware foes, totally removing them from the real world.
Skel: And of course, you aren't a ninja if you can't go invisible or teleport, and Ryo can do that, but to teleport he needs to go between shadows.
Skunk: Ryo is a master at stealth, tactics, and eliminating his foes quickly and effectively, though he also could leave his foes alive, if he is feeling particularly kind.
Ryo's Feats[]
- Can react to light based attacks
- Can kill a person in a few seconds with a few swings of his blade
- Was previously a general of an army
- Defeated the Shadow Empress, twice
- Though, he did die after both times
- Was able to redirect an explosion
- Defeated others that were equal to him in skill
- Can be hidden even a few meters away from people without them noticing
- Defeated hundreds of soldiers, and several generals, all within a single night
Skel: But murder is so fun! He can slash people up in a blink, he can kill hundreds of people in a night, he can fight people who use light! He can do so much, why avoid fighting?!
Skunk: Because, he is just as skilled at hiding as he is skilled at killing, as he can be mere feet away, and you still won't see him coming, until it is too late.
Skel: So many cool powers just gone to waste...
Skunk: Even with his powers, he still needs to use his brain.
Ryo's Flaws[]
- Shadow Techniques require Shadow Essence
- Ryo can replenish this by killing with his shadow dragon, or finding shrines to do so at
- Light weakens and kills Ryo if he is within too strong of beams
- Sunlight and holy light both are deadly to Ryo, while lights such as lamps and campfires just weaken his powers
Skel: What do you mean?
Skunk: Ryo's powers are SHADOW powers, so when there is an excess of light, Ryo won't do as good, as he can't hide as well, nor can he use his powers as effectively.
Skel: That's stupid.
Skunk: That is how shadow powers work, he has limited use of the techniques, and the darkness is what fuels him. So he must use his powers sparingly, especially when there isn't anyone to eat and no shrines to find.
Skel: He is still a badass shadow ninja.
Skunk: Yes, he still is a badass shadow ninja, who you should not get in the way of.
Ryo is shown using his shadow dragon to devour an enemy.
Batman Grapples Into Death Battle![]
Skunk: Gotham is a dangerous place, full of mad men and crazies.
Skel: Arkham is too though. Is Arkham a place or just the title?
Skunk: Doesn't matter, the point is the people of the Arkham universe are lucky to have Batman as their protector.
Skel: Yeah, with a bunch of mercenaries, robbers and other villains, they really need the caped crusader on their side.
Skunk: Bruce Wayne, he-
Skel: We already know his backstory, do we have to go over it?
Skunk: Well, we can put it short.
Skel: Bruce Wayne. Trauma. Sad. Parents dead. Beats up baddies. There!
Skunk: Right... anyway, this Batman isn't the same as the comics, but that doesn't mean he is to be ignored, he has had to defend Arkham from countless crime sprees.
Skel: The order is confusing sometimes, but when he first started out, Batman wasn't exactly well-known, yet he still was given a ton of assassins to deal with on one of his first nights out.
Skunk: As time went, he obtained more and more gadgets in his arsenal, some from his defeated enemies, others he made himself.
Skel: Yeah, he was all like "I'll take this" and basically robbed em.
Batman's Arsenal[]
Suit[]
- Detective Mode
- Batsuit Armor
- Enhances Batman's physical attributes, making him faster and stronger
- Bat symbol is toughest point
- Shock Gauntlets
Gadgets[]
- Grappling Hook
- Batclaw
- Batarangs
- Remote Control Version
- Sonic Version
- Freeze Blasts
- Glue Grenades
- Line Launcher
- Explosive Gel
- Smoke Pellets
Skunk: As usual, Batman wouldn't be Batman without his grappling hook and batarangs, along with his batclaw and smoke pellets.
Skel: He also has stuff to trap people, like glue grenades and freeze blasts, perfect for trapping enemies for a bit.
Skunk: His explosive gel is destructive enough to destroy old walls and glass panes, perfect for breaking spines with debris.
Skel: His suit itself also has built in stuff, like some awesome shock gauntlets and the detective mode, which lets Batman see through the environment and inspect people, seeing their heart beat and skeleton, and if they are armed with guns.
Skunk: Most of his gadgets are suited for stealth, but he can still use them in the midst of battle, even when gliding he can shot multiple gadgets at once at multiple targets.
Skel: My favorite weapon he has is for sure his fists, where he breaks their bones easily.
Batman's Feats[]
- Can tear metal vent covers off, and just as easily slide through them
- Can smash through glass
- Able to knock people out in a few hits
- Faced off against deadly assassins, zombies, and enhanced humans
- Escaped several situations that seemed hopeless
- Tanks attacks from the likes of Killer Croc, Solomon Grundy, and Bane
- Can keep up with Deathstroke and other master martial artists, even without gadgets
- Solved over 500 of Riddler's "riddles" through all the games
Skunk: As you'd likely guess, Batman has faced a lot of enemies, and beaten them all.
Skel: Croc, Bane, Deathstroke, Grundy, Titans, Clayface, he has fought A LOT of people.
Skunk: Even Mr. Freeze, a super genius, who kept adapting to Batman's strategies, he had to put work in to get him down.
Skel: He captured multiple villains multiple times, over and over, and while he has struggled, he still comes through.
Skunk: But, saying that is exactly how it sounds, Batman has struggled, even he isn't free from human limits.
Batman's Flaws[]
- Batsuit can only take so much damage from guns and melee attacks
- Detective Mode can be hidden from and disrupted
- Some gadgets can be ineffective or totally useless in some situations
- Batarangs aren't made to actually damage, more to distract and disorient
- Has been caught off-guard before
- In the end had to reveal himself as Bruce Wayne
Skel: His suit is still able to be got through, if you shoot it enough, it will give, and his detective mode has been gotten around before, it has been tracked, avoided, and disrupted.
Skunk: And while he has plenty of gadgets to use, not all of them are useful at all times, so we will say right now, stuff like his hacking device and voice device are not gonna be useful in a 1 on 1 fight like this.
Skel: Yeah, we won't spoil the fight, but those two things are use-less to Batman.
Skunk: He is still a mortal human, he is still Bruce Wayne, and everyone knows that now. But that won't matter, because to everyone in Arkham, as they have seen, Bruce Wayne, is dead.
Skel: But the Batman lives on!
Knightfall Protocol is shown happening.
Intermission[]
Skunk: Alright, the combatants are set, let's end this debate once and for all.
Skel: It's time for a Death Battle!!!
Fight[]
Location: Arkham Asylum
The Asylum is a mess, criminals running around, smashing windows, chasing the staff, and firing wildly into the air. Joker laughs as he watches from a tall building.
Joker: Oh, I just love how easy it is to do this again, and again! Batsy won't stop me this time!
A sudden thud is heard behind Joker, and he turns to see none other than Batman.
Batman: I wouldn't count on that, Joker...
Joker laughs at this.
Joker: Oh come on, you know how this will go, you lock me up, I escape, repeat!
Batman: I'll keep doing it then.
???: No, I'll deal with this.
A figure tackles Joker off the building, crashing down through trees, landing in the middle of the yard of the Asylum. Joker coughs up a bit of blood, laughing.
Joker: Who are YOU supposed to be?
Ryo: An Aragami, here to put you in your place...
As Ryo went to swing his sword, Batman got in the way, his gauntlets blocking it, then pushing Ryo back with a punch to his sword.
Batman: That isn't how you do this.
Ryo: You can't let him live, he causes harm wherever he goes, and must be put down.
Batman gets up, glaring at the still laughing Joker.
Joker: Oh, boys, you don't need to fight over me, I can carve out pieces to share!
Ryo: He is sick, and if you think he can be saved, you're just as sick.
Batman: I can't let you do that.
Ryo: If you won't kill him, you'll have to kill me...
Both stare each other down, as Joker giggles.
Fight!
Ryo dashes forward and swings, Batman evading and kneeing Ryo's gut, sending him flying into a wall. Batman throws several batarangs at Ryo, who easily deflects them all to the ground. Ryo leaps up onto a tree, then goes inside the top. Batman watches it, anticipating his foe coming out, but Ryo had shadow leaped to a different tree, where he lunges, but Batman barely reacts, taking out another batarang to swipe the attack aside.
Batman: Sneaky...
Ryo gets into a stance, and swipes his blade downwards, but when it gets close to the ground, Batman throws a freeze blast at it, making it get stuck. Batman then drop kicks Ryo, who falls down into the shade of a tree, and almost seemingly disappears. Batman uses his grappling hook to get to higher ground, seeing if he can get a better view to find his foe.
Batman: Alfred, I'm going to need you to be ready to run a check on someone, I'll get them scanned when I next view them.
Alfred: Right you are master Bruce.
With that, Ryo yells out behind Batman, who side steps, letting Ryo smash a solid part of the stone railing. He pulls his sword out, which he then slides his wrist across to clean the remaining ice from it, showing Batman's reflection in it as Ryo's eyes are above the blade, both give looks of determination.
Batman: You don't have to do this.
Ryo: If you don't kill those who do bad, who will?
Batman: If you kill them, you're just as bad as they are.
The walk in a circle while keeping eye contact, Ryo readies a kunai, while Batman readies a batarang. Ryo then dashes forward, and swipes with the kunai, both him and Batman swipe their mini bladed weapons, until Ryo's gets knocked out of his hand, and Batman does a spinning kick to Ryo's face, making him fly backwards, but lands on his feet.
Batman: Don't...
Ryo, ignoring the pleas for this to not go further, uses his shadow leap to get behind Batman, then tackle him through a ceiling window, falling down into a classic predator encounter room, where Batman grapples away, letting Ryo fall into the middle of the room, landing on his knee. Ryo gets up and looks around, hearing the sound of what sounds like a spray. He looks in the direction of it, and uses his powers to look through the environment, seeing Batman behind a wall.
Ryo: There you are...
Batman slips into a vent, grappling up it and then swinging to a gargoyle, watching for Ryo to go near the wall, but he doesn't... Ryo then lands from above, kicking Batman off the gargoyle, and he lands on his back, getting up quickly to look for his foe, who wasn't there. Batman turns on detective mode, but... Ryo wasn't anywhere to be seen, not to the sides, not above, not below, he couldn't see Ryo.
Batman: Alfred, have you got anything on the scan?
Alfred: There was nothing in the scan you sent.
Batman: Something isn't right...
Ryo then slides under Batman, tripping him, then leaps up and throws a kuani at the bat symbol, but it sticks into it. Ryo lands down on the ground, letting Batman get up.
Ryo: You can still walk away from this.
Batman: Never...
Batman sprays his fist with explosive gel, then runs forward, as Ryo also does, Ryo swinging his blade at Batman, who punches the sword, causing an explosion that knocks both of them far back from each other. Batman gets up, seeing Ryo, he slides towards him, and tries to use the shock gloves, only to be met with an exploding clone of Ryo, blinding Batman.
Ryo: Sloppy...
Ryo kicks Batman's back, sending him face down, then leaps onto a ledge, watching his foe get up. Batman throws a sonic batarang at Ryo's hand, though he avoids it, the batarang goes off, causing Ryo to fall from flinching at the noise, but he managed to land on his feet. Batman leaps from above, and shoots explosive gel at Ryo's feet, blowing it up to make Ryo fly into the air, where Batman dropkicks Ryo's head, sending him through the walls. Ryo gets up, now in the middle of an operating theater.
Ryo: You can't hide forever...
Batman leaps up from a grate below, and headbutts Ryo, making him stumble and fall over a table. Batman throws a glue grenade, but Ryo teleports away before it hits him. Batman reacts quickly to block Ryo's blade several times, before Ryo slices Batman's elbow, then kicks Batman's face hard enough to make him slam into the wall. Batman, in a final effort, uses the batclaw to pull Ryo to him, then knee Ryo in the gut, making him drop his sword, and fall to the ground.
Batman: It's over.
Ryo: You think so... and you'd be right. For you, it is over...
Ryo clenches his fist, and under Batman's cape, a symbol glows, and a mini-black hole opens behind Batman. While he tries to use his grapple hook to stop himself from being pulled in, he sees Ryo walk over to the grapple line.
Ryo: So long, Dark Knight...
Ryo slices the line, and Batman gets sucked into the black hole right as it closes, leaving only a single batarang on the ground, which shows Ryo in the reflection of it, before he fades out.
K.O!
Conclusion[]
Skel: Score one up for Japan!
Skunk: We know everyone wanted their favorite caped crusader to win, and really, Batman could have won, only if he had the means to outlast his opponent.
Skel: While we can go through stuff like their physical strength, and toughness, what really mattered this battle was their gadgets and powers, and Ryo's just edged out way harder.
Skunk: Batman's grapple hook, detective vision and other gadgets ordinarily work well on enemies he can get the drop on, but Ryo isn't the same as those enemies.
Skel: For starters, Ryo has similar capabilities, like seeing through walls, but being a shadow, Batman can't see him, as there are not vitals to locate in his body, that is what detective mode is for, finding vitals, Arkham Knight found gear that directly counters detective vision, meaning it can be tricked.
Skunk: One more major factor about these two is the most key thing in a Death Battle, how deadly they really are.
Skel: It should be no surprise the awesome ninja ghost assassin with a sword and shadow powers is more deadly than a guy with non-lethal gadgets and fighting styles.
Skunk: Ryo had multiple quick ways to end the fight, consuming Batman with his shadow dragon, creating a black hole to suck Batman into, and his shadow kunai would be lethal in the right place, while Batman, like we just said, isn't focused on lethal attacks.
Skel: Sure, Batman is probably stronger, ripping vents off the wall, and taking hits from Bane, but strength isn't going to be a big factor when you can't even hit your opponent who can leap between shadows.
Skunk: Even though Ryo's power are more limited, he wouldn't need to use any of them more than once to elude Batman and get the jump on him, allowing for a quick fatal attack.
Advantages & Disadvantages[]
Batman[]
- + Stronger
- + Smarter
- - Less lethal
- - Couldn't track Ryo through detective vision
- - Reliant on stealth, which Ryo can counter
Ryo[]
- + Stealth is more reliable
- + Actually uses lethal weapons
- + Shadow Techniques trump gadgets
- + Teleportation adds unpredictability to Ryo's movements
- - Smaller arsenal
Skel: We can say, without a shadow of a doubt, Batman had a dark night ahead of him in this one.
Skunk; The winner is General Ryo!
