Crusaders are some of the most noble on the battlefield, and these fighters prove that in equal measure. This Death Battle features Reinhardt from Overwatch and Olberic from Octopath Traveler.

Description[]

Overwatch vs Octopath Traveller! In the field of battle, there are two major forces: Attack and Defense. When the ultimate crusaders in each field take eachother on, which will finally solve the greatest problem in the world? Can the Unstoppable Sword known as Olberic take a win, or will the Immovable Shield of Reinhardt stop him dead in his tracks?

Interlude[]

[(Now Playing: Wiz and Boomstick - Death Battle)]

Wiz: In the darkness of war, there's always a beacon of hope that can rally their allies with their feats alone.

Boomstick: Whether that's taking down giant tyrants or beating up rogue robots, these guys know what it takes to be that shield. Or sword, even!

Wiz: Reinhardt, Overwatch's ultimate shield.

Boomstick: And Olberic, Octopath Traveler's fearless "Unbending Blade." He's Wiz and i'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armors, and skills to find out who would win...a Death Battle.

Reinhardt charges into DEATH BATTLE![]

Reinhardt Death Battle Info

[(Now Playing: Eichenwalde - Overwatch)]

Wiz: In a future far-off from our own, robotics has evolved. Not just servants of man, they wished to be treated the same as their creators.

Boomstick: And what better way than starting a freakin' race war? C'mon, it's a classic!

Wiz: More a species-war, but whatever the intention, humanity needed protectors. Guardians who could save them from this crisis. And to respond to the people's needs, the Overwatch was created, a team of the world's greatest warriors, scientists, pilots, and strategists.

Boomstick: But that ain't the only group that was formed. All the way out in Germany of all places, it turns out there were people wearing high-tech armor bringin' justice to the land called the Crusaders! And like the job-poachers they were, Overwatch wanted one of them to join their ranks instead.

Wiz: At first, they chose the experienced and wise Balderich von Adler for the role, although he had lost his life defending his land before he could properly join them. In his stead, his pupil Reinhardt Wilhelm would take up the role as Overwatch's stalwart defender.

Reinhardt

Information[]

  • Name: Reinhardt Wilhelm
  • Height: 7'4"
  • Weight: (Possibly) 135kg/297.62lbs
  • Age: 61
  • Likes: Glory, Battle, David Hasselhoff
  • Dislikes: Dragons, Injustice, Omnics
  • The Last Crusader

Wiz: Part of the Crusaders long before Overwatch was needed, Reinhardt was a man that favored battling the toughest of foes more than the actual defending part of their mission. Which, frankly, makes no sense. What point is there in just recklessly charging into battle like that?

Boomstick: Aw c'mon Wiz, lighten up! Y'know what they say, 'Live with honor, Die with glory'! It's basically the old-timey version of YOLO, but WAY cooler.

Wiz: Tch, well whatever reason he had for that, he would be turned around from that goal thanks to the battle of Eichenwalde, where his mentor sacrificed himself to stop the Omnics from breaching any further. Inspired by this selfless action, he would focus more on defense than offense as he joined the ranks of Overwatch's heroes.

Boomstick: 'Course, just cause he's got an aim for defending people doesn't mean he's exactly all out of attackin' options either, and what better way to do that than with his BFH?

Wiz: His...what?

Boomstick: Big. Fucking. Hammer.

Equipment/Abilities[]

  • Crusader Armor
    • Charge
    • Barrier Field
  • Rocket Hammer
    • Fire Strike
    • Earthshatter

Wiz: With the Rocket Hammer, his preferred weapon, Reinhardt can pulverize entire cars and Omnics alike in a single blow.

Boomstick: Don't forget that it's got a freaking ROCKET attached to it! The guy can just swing it around no-problem! Hell, he's so good at it, he can fling fire-slashes at people called Fire Strikes, or even just Hulk Smash the ground with his patented Earthshatter move. Y'know what I say, Wiz, it's always better to have a gun than a beartrap.

Wiz: Is that why I had to keep you from fusing a beartrap to your shotgun leg yesterday?

Boomstick: Aw c'mon, it would've been cool! The world just ain't ready for the Bear Shotgun.

Wiz: Sigh...well, Reinhardt couldn't even lift that weight without his strongest tool yet, his Crusader Armor. The ninth version of the armor to-date, this hulking suit is an all-around enhancer, boosting his strength, speed, and most importantly, his defense.

Boomstick: This guy's tanked a shit-ton of stuff, like gunfire, bombs, even a freakin' LASER at one point, but his best feat yet is actually comparing him to another member of Overwatch, a little fella named Wrecking Ball.

Wiz: See, Hammond (the hamster that pilots Wrecking Ball) pilots a mech built off of the escape pod he used to escape his original space station. And by escape, I mean he fell from orbit. Taking into account the shape of the pod, the all-around weight of it, and the fact that he was likely falling at terminal velocity, this means that the container landed with about 234.05 Tons of force.

Boomstick: And the thing was still completely fine after it crashed!

Wiz: And Reinhardt, logically, should be just as, if not more durable than that, being Overwatch's tankiest hero. And if he needs even more of a defensive boost, he can fire off his Barrier Field, which forms a defensive barrier that blocks most forms of attack, although physical people and some elemental attacks can still move through it. Logically, we should also assume this shield has about the same defensive property as Rein's own armor, if not more, otherwise it just wouldn't do it's job properly.

Boomstick: He's also got the Charge technique, where he uses jets in the back of his super awesome armor to blast off and bum-rush any unlucky fool who's in his path. Hey, Wiz, can you make one of those for me after this?

Wiz: I'll, see what I can do.

Boomstick: Yessss!

Wiz: Robotic suit or not, Reinhardt had dedicated his life in Overwatch to defending his teammates and fighting the good fight. And yet, due to his growing age, he was discharged by the organization years later.

Boomstick: Oh yeah, that sucks. But at least he made friends with a dwarf before he got kicked out.

Wiz: Boomstick!

Boomstick: Oh c'mon, i'm being literal here! I'm talkin' about Torbei...Torboyo....Torb...ye...orn. The short guy. He actually helped maintain Rein's armor while he was in the field, and they got along pretty damn well, 'specially when he saved his life after the short guy lost his arm. Hell, Rein actually became the godfather of Torb's daughter, Bridgette.

Wiz: Brigitte, actually.

Boomstick: Eh, whatever. Either way, she was super impressed by the big lug's stories and stuff, so much that later in life she actually became his sidekick when she became an adult, since Rein was gonna try to fight for justice like the good-ol-days all across Europe.

Wiz: And in doing so, he and Brigitte sparred to keep eachothers' skills as sharpened as they could. For reference, Brigitte is almost, if not exactly as fast as her fellow hero Genji, who can deflect sound waves with his katana. This means he, and by extension Brigitte and Reinhardt, can react to movement at Mach 1.

Boomstick: Damn, that's fast! But of course, even the living shield's got a few chinks in the armor.

Weaknesses[]

  • Old Age
  • Under Armor, Human
  • Shield Weaknesses
  • Charge Rigidity
  • Battle Intelligence

Wiz: Under that armor, Reinhardt is just a man. Sure, he's massive and insanely buff, but nowhere to the level of how he is under it. And he has a bad habit of not wearing his helmet, making it an obvious weak-point.

Boomstick: His shield's also not good at blocking magic-stuff as it is to physical attacks, and if you hit the gauntlet powering it, it's gonna be shorted out for quite a damn while.

Wiz: He's also reckless when actually on the attack, charging into danger without thinking of a plan. Fittingly, his Charge ability reflects this, as he can't turn it all too well.

Boomstick: But just like all the gnarly battle scars he wears, Reinhardt's gonna do his job as a Crusader no matter how many weaknesses he's got. When trouble's on the horizon, you can always bet on him rising to the challenge. And with Brigatte--

Wiz: Brigitte.

Boomstick: Well whatever her name, his glory ain't gonna be snuffed out anytime soon.

Reinhardt Analysis End

"I have been called. I must answer...always."

Olberic finds purpose in DEATH BATTLE![]

Olberic Death Battle Info

[(Now Playing: An Ill Omen - Octopath Traveler)]

Wiz: Long ago, in the continent of Orsterra, there was a kingdom by the name of Hornburg. Prosperous as it was powerful, the king of this land had two noble guards to protect both land and people. The steadfast and powerful Erhardt...

Boomstick: And the guy we're focusing on today, Olberic, the guy with pretty sick title: The Unbending Blade.

Olberic thumb

Information[]

  • Name: Olberic Eisenberg
  • Height: (Possibly) 6'5"
  • Weight: Unknown
  • Age: 35
  • Likes: Justice, Battle, Honor
  • Dislikes: Betrayal, Destruction, Swimming
  • Defender of Cobbleston

Wiz: For years, both knights would dedicate their lives to protecting this kingdom. At least, until tradgedy struck at the worst time.

Boomstick: See, it turns out that Olberic's pal Erhardt was actually working with this one super-evil guy who wanted the whole kingdom gone. Oh yeah, and Erhardt had a huge murder-hate for the king cause he didn't save his town from destruction, so he did the reasonable thing and freaking killed him in front of Olberic. Cold as hell.

Wiz: This betrayal to the kingdom would haunt Olberic far after the fall of his homeland, leaving him without a sense of purpose. Taking up shop in the town of Cobbleston, he would relegate himself to a simple life defending the village, but never knowing why he even swings his blade anymore.

[(Now Playing: Battle II - Octopath Traveler)]

Boomstick: Until one day, when this kid he was training was kidnapped by bandits. Yeah, the life of a warrior just couldn't leave him alone, 'specially when the bandits' leader turned out to have ties to his old murdery pal. Talk about a coincidence.

Wiz: But with this lead, he would begin his journey to find the reason for his kingdom's fall, and bring them to justice. He couldn't do it without a weapon, however. Thankfully, he never truly laid away his longsword, and he would go to find many more weapons for battle along this journey of both body and mind.

Swords[]

  • Long Sword
  • Broadsword
  • Feather Saber/Angel Saber
  • Captain's Sword
  • Mirage Blade/Unseen Saber
  • Carnage Blade
  • Deathly Blade
  • Werner's Sword
  • Battle-tested Blade

Boomstick: Oh-ho MAN he's got an arsenal of blades. Olberic's got your standard long sword, a broadsword, and even swords that give foes status conditions!

Wiz: Like the Angel Saber and Feather Saber, which can put targets to sleep on a successful hit, or the Captain's Sword, which drains a target's defense on hit.

Boomstick: He's also got both the Mirage Blade and the Unseen Saber, which can make targets more confused than anything when they're hit. His Carnage Blade is also pretty sick, literally draining a target's attacking power on contact. Oh yeah, he's also got this 'Deathly Blade', which can literally kill people where they stand! ...wait, don't all swords do that?

Wiz: But if even that isn't enough, then Olberic can use the sword of the true mastermind behind his kingdom's downfall, which always critically injures its' target on a successful strike.

Boomstick: But if we're talking making Olberic even stronger than before, then we're gonna be focusing on his old rival's blade, the 'Battle-Tested Blade', which augments the user's physical power just by wielding it!

Wiz: But of course, a sword on it's own isn't enough to keep Olberic standing. That's why he also has a plethora of shields at his disposal.

Shields & Armor[]

  • Shields
    • Buckler
    • Elusive Shield
    • Elemental Shield
    • Leviathan Shield
    • Battle-Tested Shield
  • Armor
    • Leather Armor
    • Silver Vest
    • Obsidian Garb
    • Silent Cape
    • High-House's Armor
    • Crystal Armor

Boomstick: He's got your classic buckler-style shield, a shield that makes him insanely hard to hit, one that's primed to defend against most elemental-attacks, and even one that can restore both his health and 'SP', whatever that is, after every attack at the cost of making him an easier target.

Wiz: His armor variety is also similar. He has the standard leather, a stronger silver vest, an armor that can increase his critical chance called the Obsidian Armor, a Silent Cape that makes him even harder to hit, the High-House's armor, which can decrease the efficiency of fire-based attacks to 75% of their normal power, and even the Crystal Armor, which is some of the strongest armor in his world.

Boomstick: But Olberic doesn't just got a pile of weapons, he knows how to use 'em too. See, people in Octopath can choose 2 classes, kinda like those weird DnD games Wiz plays on the weekend.

Wiz: Wh-hey!! They're not weird, they help in keeping my analytics sharp.

Boomstick: Suuuuure, 'Dhrak-Khan the Dark Elf'. Totally just to keep your mind sharp.

Wiz: Ugh...

Boomstick: Well anyways, Olberic's main class is the good old-fashioned Warrior, which comes with its' own techniques and moves.

Warrior Skills[]

  • Level Slash
  • Abide
    • Summon Strength
    • Surpassing Power
  • Stout Wall
  • Incite
  • Cover
  • Endure
  • Spearhead
    • Thousand Spears
  • Cross Strike
    • Brand's Thunder

Wiz: With Level Slash, Olberic can attack all of his targets with a sweeping strike of his blade.

Boomstick: He's also able to buff up his attack and defense with stuff like Abide and Stout Wall, increasing his strength by 50%, and his ability to tank hits by around 33%. He can also make use of getting so buff by using Incite, which draws all attacks towards him like some living tank.

Wiz: He can increase this strength with the Support Skills Summon Strength, which boosts his already impressive power, and Surpassing Power, which removes the limits he previously had in terms of dealing damage.

Boomstick: And when he's on the defensive, Cover and Endure are pretty good at keeping himself and others alive. The former lets him take an attack meant for a wounded ally, and the other boosts his strength in the face of status effects like Paralysis, Poison, or even Terror.

Wiz: Of course, Olberic can also target single targets with Cross Strike, a single-target attack. But for his most powerful sword attack, he can unleash Brand's Thunder, a divine skill that none can match in sheer power.

Boomstick: Note, that's his most powerful sword attack. Yeah, being a Warrior means that he's also got a sweet set of Spears he can use, like the basic kind, a harpoon that lowers a target's speed, one that makes them easier to hit, spears that can confuse and blind enemies, and even a totally not-Sonic one that boosts his own speed!

Wiz: He can use these spears in his last two base techniques: Spearhead, which is a spear attack that lets Olberic take more initiative, and Thousand Spears, which is a rapid flurry of 5-10 spear jabs.

Boomstick: Y'know, we're talking up all these abilities, but aren't most of them just...basic sword and spear stuff?

Wiz: Possibly, but where these techniques lack in style, they make up for in effectiveness. Olberic used all of these weapons and skills to take on other skilled fighters like Joshua Frostblade and Archibold in a bid to find out the location of his now sworn enemy.

Boomstick: Hey Wiz, didn't you make a character like that Frostblade guy onc-

Wiz, through gritted teeth: Shut. Up. Boomstick.

Boomstick: Jeez, alright, don't take it so personally man. Anyways, when he actually got to the town that Erdhardt was staying at, it turns out he actually started living the life that Olberic was living back at Cobbleston. Crazy coincidence, huh?

Wiz: As it turns out, Erdhardt was lost after the fall of Hornburg, same as Olberic himself was, and after a brief bout between the two to settle their differences, revealed that it was actually a man by the name of Werner who orchestrated the fall of the kingdom.

Boomstick: So with that whole murder-misunderstanding cleared up, Olberic went on to fight the ACTUAL guy who got his king killed. But not before fighting a literal goddess, the lucky bastard.

Wiz: Oh, right. See, it's never explicitly cleared up on which Subclass Olberic has by the end of the game. So, after some examination, we decided on which would work best. In that case, it was the class that was the natural extension to the main Warrior class: Warmaster.

Warmaster[]

  • Guardian Liondog
  • Tiger Rage
  • Qilin's Horn
  • Yatagarasu
  • Fox Spirit
  • Pheonix Storm
  • Stalwart Defense
  • Fortitude
  • Physical Prowess
  • Nightmare Chimera
  • Winnehild's Battle Cry

Boomstick: This class is all about using every weapon you got, and damn all these moves have kickass names. With Guardian Liondog, he unleashes a flurry of powerful slash attacks at a target with a sword. And with Qilin's Horn, he strikes 'em with a super strong spear stab.

Wiz: With Tiger Rage, he can strike with an all-encompassing axe strike, whilst with Yatagarasu, he unleashes the same with a mere dagger.

Boomstick: That's not a real word.

Wiz: What, Yatagarasu? Yes it is, it's the name of the God of Guidance in Japanese culture. I assume the attack's name comes from the fact a crow's talons are somewhat like daggers, and Yatagarasu itself is based on a crow.

Boomstick: I'm calling bull on that one, Wiz. Here, lemme look it up.

Wiz: While Boomstick is doing that, I'll just wrap this part up. Fox Spirit is another wide-striking attack with a Staff, whilst Pheonix Storm is a striking bow-attack. He also has the support skills of Stalwart Defense, which raises his defense, Fortitude, which increases his power when he's at low health, and Physical Prowess, which generally increases his physical ability. But his most powerful techniques are-

Boomstick: Hah! I just looked it up, and it's not even real!

Wiz: ...Boomstick, you just keysmashed into the search engine.

Boomstick: Nah, I just sounded out the name.

Wiz: ...ugh, let's just move past this.

Boomstick: That's right, cause you don't wanna admit you're wrong. Anyways, Olberic's got two kickass ultimate attacks to work with here. Nightmare Chimera, which lets him pull out a weapon and supercharge it to the point it breaks when he strikes the target, and Winnehild's Battle Cry, which lets him use ALL his weapon-types in a sick combo attack.

Wiz: With these new skills, Olberic would go on to face down the tyrant that was Werner, even saving a party that was rebelling against the king. Even Erdhardt showed up to assist, reforging the battle-worn bond between the two, before finally striking down the mad tyrant once and for all...

Boomstick: And then they all lived happily ever after, right? Wrong! Turns out Werner tore down the kingdom 'cause it housed the gate to a dark god that threatened to destroy the whole world. So after getting his moral learnt, he joined up with 7 other heroes to take down this 'Galdera' guy....god...thing? It was kinda weird, not gonna lie. They have a kick-ass design though, like some super-cool Satan!

Wiz: ...right. That said, even with the help, destroying Galdera would be a hard task. They could match the other gods, who themselves have shaped the very land that Olberic and the others lived on. Using a map of the land, and close-up shots of the forest, we can deduce that the trees of the forest are the Pinus Monticola, otherwise known as Western White Pine.

Boomstic: Hah! You said pinus.

Wiz: Real clever, Boomstick. Anyways, these trees grow to an average of 40 meters in height. We can compare that to the tallest mountain we can see on that map, which would make the estimated amount of stone be around 21,344,225.76 cubic meters.

Boomstick: Damn! That's a lot of rock. Someone'd have to be a dick to destroy all of it. Would make for some sick gravel though.

Wiz: Ugh...well, estimating the possible amount of energy required to destroy said mountain, that would equate to about 9.56 Tons of TNT.

Boomstick: And these guys took down a god that could likely destroy more than that?

Wiz: Just about. That said, Olberic isn't perfect.

Weaknesses[]

  • Strategy
  • Swimming

Boomstick: Yeah, while Olberic's a tough cookie to crack, he ain't exactly the smartest. And he also just can't swim, he'd probably just sink like a buff rock.

Wiz: With all of that said, it would still be folly to challenge the Unbending Blade himself. Settled back in Cobbleston, now with a renewed sense of purpose, he'll defend the village to his last breath.

Olberic Analysis End 2

"MY BLADE IS UNBENDING!"

Pre-Death Battle/Poll[]

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set! We've run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!!!

  • Poll Results - Total (10)
    • Reinhardt: 40%
    • Olberic: 60%

Death Battle[]

Location: Cobbleston Village - Tavern[]

(Now Playing: Cobbleston, Nested in the Hills - TPR)

Deep in the town of Cobbleston, a simple tavern sat. Within, people were simply having a good time, drinking to their hearts' content and talking with their friends. This included a man with dark hair and a leather jacket, with a longsword in a sheath on his side. This would be Olberic Eisenberg, the man calmly taking a drink as he thought about an adventure months ago. It had been a while since he had went on his journey to rediscover his passion, and since then, things had gotten...well, quiet wasn't the exact term, but it was definitely less strife-filled.

Today would be the breaking of that trend, however. Suddenly, the door to the Tavern would open, earning some looks from the patreons on who was coming in next. What they saw surprised them, and earned Olberic's undivided attention. It was a massive grey...something, at the least. It seemed humanoid from what they all could see in the door, which would be proven correct as the being ducked, revealing the head of what looked to be an old man. Scanning around, he would soon land his gaze on Olberic, the armor-wearing man's mouth splitting into a smile on sight. "Ah ha, there you are!" he would claim, before trying to walk through the door.

Except...well, his frame was kind of too big for it. The patrons could hear him grunting as he tried to squeeze his way through, even trying to get in from another angle in an attempt to make it in without breaking the doorframe. Unfortunately, it didn't seem all that possible, especially as the stranger put in too much force, and broke the doorframe and the surrounding wall with a resounding crash! Stumbling forwards slightly, the now revealed to be a giant of a man would manage to keep himself from falling, self-assured in his apparent victory as he strolled in. With a massive hammer in hand, this person's metal-suit seemed to be revealed to be some kind of armor, and yet the stranger seemed none the worse for wear as he casually sat in the seat next to Olberic.

"Aye, i'll have a beer." said stranger would request, waving down the bartender. Meanwhile, Olberic glanced between the armored man and the wall he just broke getting in, unsure of what to make of him. After a moment, he would slowly bring a hand to his sword's handle, just in case this person was as destructive as their first appearance claimed. "Quite an entrance you've made there, stranger. ...If I may, might I ask your name? And more importantly, your intentions." the defender of Cobbleston cautiously asked, to which the giant of a man would look back over to him with a smile. "No need to sound so wound-up, i'm just here to deliver a message from Overwatch! The name's Reinhardt. I take it you're the Unbending Blade?" the newly revealed Reinhardt questioned, to which, after a moment, Olberic nodded.

"Great! It's nice to see another holding up the title of a crusader, you know." Reinhardt claimed joyfully, picking up the mug that was set before him. Taking a swig, he would let out a sigh of satisfaction. "Ah...that hits the spot. Not as good as the kind from Germany, but it's no pushover." the massive man claimed. Honestly, this 'Reinhardt' just gave more questions than answers, in Olberic's opinion. "Aye, it's not the strongest stuff around. I'd suggest mixing it with Noxroot if you're looking for something more potent; I wager it could knock an Ogre Eagle out cold in an instant!" Olberic laughed, before then attempting to steer back to Reinhardt's reasoning to be here. "Though, I suppose it is a tad early in the day for that. You say you're serving as an envoy of this 'Overwatch' correct? What business have they in Cobbleston?" prompted the smaller of the two, which seemed to remind the big oaf of his whole reason for coming. "Ah, right! Just a second..." the Crusader started, digging through somewhere before finally taking out a coin-like object, more of a trinket than anything else, bearing the Overwatch logo.

Offering it to Olberic, Reinhardt would offer "Overwatch heard of your exploits a few months ago, taking down that tyrant and freeing a kingdom. So they wanted to see if you'd be willing to join, free of charge!", going to take another swig as the leather-clad man looked it over. A brief look of indecision crossed his face, before with a shake of the head, he answered the call. "While I know little of your organization's intentions, you don't seem an ill-intentioned sort, Sir Reinhardt..." The swordsman calmly handed the trinket back to Reinhardt. "I'm afraid I'll have to decline. If you desire my blade, know it's already pledged to the people of this little town." would be his answer, which briefly gave the armored man pause...before he then merely shrugged. "That's fine. It's good to know there're people out there who still carry on our kind of lifestyle, either way. Live with Honor, Die with Glory, that's what I say!" Reinhardt claimed, raising up his mug to punctuate the quote.

Olberic merely raised an eyebrow at this, before then shrugging and turning back to the bar. "Hah! Cheers to that, friend." he would respond, to which Reinhardt grinned before going to stand back up. Placing a few coins on the table, he would claim "While it's been an honor meeting you, Unbending Blade, i've got to get back to base. Keep the change." he would claim, before starting to walk out of the building. As he did, the aforementioned blade-wielder looked back onto the table, noticing that Reinhardt left the token on the counter as well. A silent offer, if he changed his mind. After a second, the younger man seemed to come to a conclusion, turning in his seat as the armored one retreated.

"Hold a moment...Reinhardt, was it?"

Pausing as he neared the exit, Reinhardt would turn back to look at Olberic. "You bear such a massive weapon with not an ounce of struggle. ...Aye, I've never seen its like before. To hold such a weapon, let alone wield it; would I be amiss in assuming you must truly be in a league of your own when it comes to battle?" he started, before then standing up from his seat and drawing his sword. Pointing to Reinhardt with it, he would then proclaim "Before you embark..."

"I would relish in the opportunity to test your mettle!"

The older of the two seemed surprised by Olberic's desire, before yet another smile broke out upon his face. "Now that's more like it! I accept your challenge, Unbending Blade!" he would accept, before gesturing outside of the tavern. "Come on, I spotted a good place outside here, perfect for a spar." he claimed, before walking out. Olberic nodded, sheathing his blade and following along through the hole in the wall he made. Off into the day, to fight what was sure to be a climatic battle.

Location: Mountainous Outskirts[]

An hour later, as the day neared evening, both Reinhardt and Olberic would finally make it. A cliff overlooking the forest, it would take a determined soul to find them, and a dumber one to interfere with this fight. "Here we are! Quite spacious, wouldn't you agree?" Reinhardt questioned, to which Olberic would agree with a nod. "Indeed. I've spent many a daylight keeping my skills honed in these very peaks. Perfect for a duel, I say!" the Traveler agreed, even as the both of them walked some paces away from eachother. The hammer-wielding crusader stood with his back facing the cliff, whilst the swordsman had the mountain behind himself. "Hold nothing back!" Olberic requested as he drew his sword once more.

Grinning in excitement, Reinhardt would settle into his usual combat stance, whirrs coming from his armor as the jets under fired up. "Only if you do the same!" the gigantic warrior claimed.

FIGHT![]

(Now Playing: Unyielding - Death Battle Fanon Track)

Both warriors charged on an invisible cue, meeting eachother in the middle. Whilst Olberic swung with a level stance, Reinhardt would raise his hammer to block the blow, steel sparking against steel. Trying to press his advantage, the larger of the two attempted to swing back with a grunt of effort, only to miss as the nimbler swordsman ducked under the attack and countered with a rising slash! This sent Reinhardt staggering back, the older man managing to steady himself before breaking out into a grin. "Ahaha, very clever! But it'll take more than some new tricks to take this old man down!" he would claim, hunkering down as his armor's rocket jets flared higher, suddenly propelling himself towards Olberic.

The blue-clad swordsman would take a ready stance, focusing his will before with a shout, briefly being lit up by an aura of defensive power before being run down by the hammer-wielding warrior's Charge attack! Both would fly into the mountain face, but as the dust was burst away, even that didn't stop the two, with Olberic himself using the rocky wall as leverage to push against the initial charge. Soon, the thrusters stopped, giving the sword fighter a chance to push even harder, sending his newly found rival further back than either anticipated. Landing on his feet, he would sheathe his sword as he proclaimed "I'll say!" Olberic says with a hearty laughter. "It's rare I meet one who could sustain my blows with such ease!"

Pulling out a spear, Olberic then charged once more. "But raw defense is nothing to a true warrior's technique! And I'm only getting WARMED UP!" he would cry, stopping just before Reinhardt could smash him with an overhead slam of the hammer. Using his new range advantage, he would begin jabbing at the crusader, managing to actually scratch the metal that the armor was made out of. After a few of these pokes, he would attempt to unleash a downwards-arcing sweep, although the armored Crusader was able to step back from the swing, getting closer to the edge than he would have liked. Not like the alternative would have been better, as the spear broke the rock under it, creating a thin yet long cut within the stone.

Before Reinhardt could even attempt to rush back in, however, Olberic was already rushing in to push his lead, the Crusader being forced to bring up an arm to block the ensuing attack. The lion-styled guard on his gauntlet would twist to stay upright, causing a transparent, light blue shield to form and take the first spear strike rather easily. Not one to give up, however, Olberic would start to repeatedly stab the shield, his hits blurring as the holographic shield weathered the attacks. Finally, however, an ache in his shoulder from how hard he was pushing himself caused him to slow down his advance...and that was all Reinhardt needed to then turn his shield off, swinging his hammer to first clash with the spear, before then pushing the momentum into flinging Olberic against the mountain's wall once again, creating a somewhat larger crater against it than the previous clash.

Landing into a crouch, Olberic would hold his chest, forced to catch his breath after that grand counter. "Wh...What...What magic is this?" he questioned with intruige, with Reinhardt going to stand back up to full height as he claimed "This is no magic, my friend. Just top-class German engineering!", letting out a hearty laugh before swinging his hammer back into combat position. "Quite the resourceful fellow...well..." would be muttered under Olberic's breath, before he then pocketed his spear. Instead, he would take out what seemed to be a more rugged blade, with sharper edges and a redder handle. It was, as obvious as it could be, the Carnage Blade. "I can be JUST as adaptable!" he decreed right after!

Standing back up, Olberic seemed to briefly flash with yellow energy as he called out "COME, if you dare!", causing Reinhardt to grin in excitement before rushing towards him. As he got close, he went to swing from the left onto the swordsman, only for his attack to be countered by Olberic's own swing of the blade! This deflection knocked Reinhardt off-balance for a second, his hammer smashing into the ground before the smaller of the two tried to slash at the German's armor. However, after taking that initial swing, Overwatch's crusader would let go of his now pinner hammer, managing to just barely graze the Carnage Blade once again before punching Olberic in the face and knocking him back!

Picking up his hammer once more, the high-tech crusader claimed "Your tenacity's incredible, I must admit that. But no one can get past a Crusader like me!" before raising his hammer to block a swift strike from the sword once more. Both warriors would clash their preferred weapons against eachother, each powerful impact causing cracks to spread along the cliff from the sheer force. An arcing sweep was deftly blocked by a shining counter, only for a follow-up cleave to be knocked to the side by a massive metal sheet, with that counter's momentum fueling Olberic's follow-up spinning slash, leaping into the air to avoid a low-aimed hammer swing before unleashing his downwards-arcing slash! This time, a noticeable mark was made in the armor, Reinhardt being forced to use his jets to slow down his momentum as he reached near the edge of the cliff once again.

Reinhardt would take a heavy breath, recovering from that blow as he took a look at his armor. Most notably, the new gash it held. While most would have been at least annoyed by this development, the bulky man instead seemed even more incited by the new scar across his suit's frame. "That's what i've been waiting for! Show me everything you got, Unbending Blade!" he shouted over the wind. Olberic obliged, charging energy into the Carnage Blade before dashing in to attack! Only...at the last second, Reinhardt would suddenly drift out of the way of the attack through a surprisingly clever usage of his jets, clipping the swinging swordsman with the back of his hammer and knocking him just off balance enough to prepare his ultimate attack.

With excited eyes, Reinhardt would skid just a little farther back as Olberic regained his bearings, before begining to leap towards him. Raising his hammer above his head, he seemed to briefly glow with power as thundered out a single, powerful powerful battle cry. "HAMMER DOWN!" he cried, before then smashing his hammer against the ground! It seemed to happen in slow motion, the way golden cracks raced across the cliff and stunned Olberic in place. Only a moment later...

BOOM[]

(Now Playing: Decisive Battle 4 - Octopath Traveler)

The cliff-face shattered from the force of the attack, rocks exploding everywhere! Both Reinhardt and Olberic lost their footing in the massive blast, the shorter warrior himself being flung into the air with a cry before falling down to the forest below. Reinhardt's eyes widened as he realized what his reckless attack had done. "OLBERIC!" he cried, before then narrowing his eyes. No hesitation in his steps, he ran towards the falling swordsman, leaping off the last of the remains of the cliff before activating his back thrusters. Speeding towards the Unyielding Blade, Reinhardt opened his arms, catching the man as they both hurtled to the green, high trees that made up the forest.

As consciousness returned to Olberic, the Warrior blearily looked up towards the sky. He expected to be hurt, if not worse, by that fall...but yet, he was perfectly fine. Looking around, he realized that he had landed in the forest, a few rocks strewn about from the collapse of the cliff. And when he went to get up--he realized that there was something holding onto him. Looking down, he realized that it was Reinhardt's arms, the crusader soon letting go with a groan. "Urgh...that's going to hurt in the morning..." the armor-wearing warrior claimed, Olberic managing to get up and allowing the giant of a man to do the same.

"What are you... ...Sir Reinhardt. You...saved my life..." the shorter of the two realized, somewhat taken aback by such a play. At this, Reinhardt shook his head to refocus, before then giving a smile. "Of course I did! It's a Crusader's duty to protect their allies, even at their own risk." the older warrior confirmed. Olberic merely looked up at him in silent shock, before turning his expression into a respect-filled gaze. "Indeed." he agreed, a newfound respect for the larger man in his tone. Sure, he was acting a bit like an oaf before...but when it came down to it, they both shared that same desire to protect.

That said, neither would be content with just letting go of the fight, not without a clear winner. So, within a breath, Olberic pulled out his blade once more. "Well? Neither of us would be satisfied with a draw! I expect nothing but your all, Sir Reinhardt!" he then offered, already back into position. The one-eyed warrior seemed surprised by such a request, only to chuckle to himself, standing up fully and pulling out his hammer once again. "Fine by me. Let us finish this, Unbending Blade!" would be his answer, ready to start the battle anew.

(Now Playing: Unyielding - Death Battle Fanon Track)

With both of their battling spirits reignited, Olberic started this new phase of their fight, running towards Reinhardt yet again! Mid-way, however, he would switch out his weapons, pulling out a spear whose head seemed to be made out of pure platinum! Allowing this far lighter weapon to guide him, the spearman's speed seemed to increase by a hefty amount, actually catching Reinhardt by surprise as he rushed in to slash at him, a spark on his armor implying he managed to get a hit in! However, as the warrior went in to deliver yet another slashing strike, Reinhardt managed to put his hammer up, blocking the spear's shaft with his weapon's own handle.

"Now THIS...this is what i've been waiting for!" Reinhardt gleefully cried, before then pushing Olberic away and rearing up his hammer like it was a golf club. His hammer flared to life, jets on the back activating as he then swung it upwards. The fire from the thrusters ignited brilliantly, forming a crescent of flame that was sent hurtling at Olberic. It seemed to hit, briefly obscuring the sword-spear fighter in a brief smoke cloud...but Reinhardt wasn't so easily persuaded, and even as the smoke started to clear, he would put up his shield in preparation for an attack...

And would be proved right in his silent assumptions, as Olberic leapt out of the smog with a new weapon in hand! It seemed to be a rusted sword, with slight chips in the edges--none other than the Battle Tested Blade! Slashing down on the newly reformed shield, the shorter warrior would slash about with powerful swings, and yet besides the inch or so given, nothing seemed to be coming out of these attacks. At least, that was before Olberic reared back one final swing, what seemed to be electricity coiling about his blade. "I wreck havoc upon thee!" he decreed, before swinging forth with a warrior's shout!

BREAK!

With Brand's Thunder striking true, Reinhardt's shield shattered into light fragments, his lion-like projector sporting a large gash upon itself that sparked. The large crusader himself was sent stumbling back once more by the hit, letting out a gasp of surprise as he watched Olberic channel more power into his blade once again, swinging again and nearly tipping over Reinhardt with the force of his attack! However, as the crusader nearly fell back, he activated his thrusters, balancing out just fast enough to catch the next slash with his shoulder instead of his chest.

"Now THAT is power!" he praised, before digging his feet into the ground to steady himself. His hammer's jets lighting up once again, he would then cry out "But now it's MY turn!", shrugging the surprised Olberic off before swinging his hammer once more into him! With a blast of force, the Unbending Blade was forced to be sent flying back, shooting through 2 of the trees from just how fast he was going, collapsing them and obscuring him from view. Taking a moment to allow his jets to cool down, the Crusader waited to see what the result of this play was.

(Now Playing: For Redemption - Octopath Traveler)

As the smoke cleared...it revealed Olberic, still standing on his feet, although barely. That attack had nearly knocked him out outright. A short breath escaping him, he watched as the Crusader stood before him, his large stature somewhat intimidating now as they both stood their ground. "D...Dammit...!" Olberic breathed out, still haggard from the blow. "Is this truly all I have left within me? Is this my limit...?" However, even as he doubted himself, something within refused to just back down like this. He was at a fork in the road right now. Either give up, or let this fight be his last.

But like everything else in his life...

"I...will never back down! With all the strength I can muster, I am a Warrior! And my blade..." roared out the Unbending Blade, suddenly being overtaken with a holy light! "Is UNBENDING!!"

Olberic carved his own path!

(Now Playing: Unyielding - Death Battle Fanon Track)

In a shining, holy glow, Olberic seemed to vanish within. Reinhardt, surprised by the sudden glow and the newfound pressure exuding off of the warrior, was forced to dig his feet in further and shield his eyes to resist being blinded by such an event. "What is he...doing???" the Crusader questioned, only for the blinding light to expel itself in a flash, leaving Olberic standing tall. Instead of his normal blue garbs, he wore a red armor, shining silver shoulder guards and ankle braces glimmering in the newfound, almost divine form that Olberic seemed to have warped himself into. Spectral arms seemed to float off his person, each holding a different weapon as the previous Warrior himself held both a sword and spear in each hand. From a bow, to a staff, to even daggers and an axe!

Olberic was now the Warmaster of legend.

And Reinhardt, upon realizing this, squealed like a little girl getting a pony, a massive grin on his face.

"FINALLY!" he shouted to the world, before switching back to a battle-ready position. "Now THIS is what i've been hoping for! Don't you let me down, Unbending Blade!" Reinhardt called to his opponent, excitement clear in his tone. Olberic, meanwhile, readied his new greatsword, allowing his spectral arms to hold the rest of his weapons as he replied "Hmhm...I don't intend to.", charging his blade with power before leaping towards Reinhardt! With his blade raised above his head, there seemed to be an aura of a wolf leaping over him within the sword, roaring out as he swung his charged blade down.

Reinhardt raised an arm up to block the attack, buckling under the force of the flashing collision. A brief struggle ensued, with the shield eventually being flung back by the sword thanks tot eh force of the blow. A clear cut ran down Reinhardt's armor from that attack, although the German warrior paid it no heed as he reactivated his hammer once more. Swinging it up again, he launched a Firestrike at the god-blessed warrior, Olberic merely bringing one of his ethereal arms around to swap about his sword with his axe. "Rend the land asunder!" he roared, swinging the weapon downwards. A tiger seemed to form within the attack, cutting through the flames and, once the axe cleaved into the ground, it rushed along with the newly formed cracks in the ground, actually stumbling Reinhardt about.

"Wha--you copied my-!?" Reinhardt started, recognizing that technique, only to be cut off as Olberic then flew past him, leaving a mark on Reinhardt's armor with one of his daggers and giving him the appearance of a dark crow. Each time Reinhardt attempted to turn and strike, he was just hit by yet another slash, barely able to comprehend the blur that was slowly but surely wearing him down. However, knowing he couldn't keep up these attacks forever, the Warmaster instead swapped out weapons on his next turn, this time bringing out a staff that he wound up. A curled up fox-like spirit glowed on the edge, which awoke and was swept into the swing that Olberic unleashed! "Descend, mighty spirit!"

However, this time Reinhardt was prepared, managing to actually catch the staff (and metaphorical fox's throat) with his free hand! Both powerhouses struggled against eachother, one forcing the other back only to be briefly overpowered by the other's fighting spirit. Finally, however, Reinhardt managed to find his footing, grunting out with effort before managing to snap the staff in two in his grip. Olberic was surprised with such a maneuver, and before he could try to pull back, the Crusader was already activating his thrusters once again, this time charging into the War Master with a rallying cry and shoving him back through yet another tree.

Breathing out with adrenaline, Reinhardt would lift his gauntlet up once again, his shield once more coming back online to challenge Olberic's new form. "This power...you're definitely the real deal!" he praised, only to be greeted by Olberic suddenly leaping right back with his axe once again! Reinhardt held his arm in preparation, while the Warmaster swung his weapon with deadly power and precision.

BREAK![]

And the result of this clash? Reinhardt's shield had once again been smashed apart, his gauntlet bearing a brand new tear in the metal! Olberic landed behind the now dazed Crusader, powering himself up even higher as a mythical aura surrounded him. "Wargoddess Winnehild! Lend me strength!" he cried out, before then swapping his axe around for his greatsword yet again! Faster than one could blink, he dashed straight past Reinhardt, leaving sparks as the man stumbled forwards from the force. Twisting around, two of his new arms would knock three arrows, aiming his bow up into the sky and firing them. As they traveled, the Warmaster then rushed forwards, brandishing his axe once more and sweeping the last Crusader's feet out from under him with the blade!

Each arrow finally landed their mark, striking Reinhardt like lightning bolts against his armor as he flipped mid-air! Not even giving him the chance to land, he would then seemingly vanish from sight, two crossing slash lines all that could be seen of him for a moment before he reappeared, finally allowing Reinahrdt to land back on his feet, flipped around after the attack. He then smashed Reinhardt over the head with a staff, causing a brief pillar of light to surround them both. Finally, brandishing his spear with all of his hands, Olberic decreed "You've far exceeded my expectations...but our duel ends here!" as he thrusted it towards the Crusader's chest.

Snap![]

And yet...that, too, seemed to snap in Olberic's grasp. His eyes wide with shock, the Warmaster was stunned in place as Reinhardt breathed out a heavy breath. Gripping his war hammer even tighter, he slowly opened his eyes with a determined gleam. "No...I cannot fall, not yet." he claimed. Suddenly rearing back, Olberic could see the jet of his hammer activating from behind the older warrior's head, with Reinhardt gritting his teeth as he briefly held back his own hammer's power. "Not when there are people I still have to protect..."

It almost seemed like Reinhardt's only working eye was glowing as he fully powered up, roaring out a mighty "FOR THE CRUSADERS!" before SMASHING the gobsmacked Olberic once again with his hammer! This time the Warmaster was forced to skip across the ground a few times, leaving tears in the ground until he finally managed to stab both his sword and a dagger into the ground, halting his fly-back as he stood back tall. Shaking with a mixture of excitement and exhaustion, both warriors knew they were on their last legs. With a silent nod from both sides, they knew this would truly be the final clash between them. Nothing held back, nothing but raw might and skill in their final moves.

As Reinhardt's jets once more charged up, the roar of an engine clearly felt, Olberic would focus his mind. Taking a strong, bracing stance, his eyes remained closed as he first uttered "For the weak, the innocent, and the kind...I stay firm!", as if agreeing with Reinhardt's own cry. His eyes then snapping open, layers of power seemed to burst from his being, dropping all weapons except his greatsword as his ethereal arms layered themselves on the one holding his blade. As electricity and fire burned from their sheer will, Olberic would begin to charge, Reinhardt doing the same!

"MY BLADE IS UNBENDING!"[]

They reached eachother in almost an instant, Reinhardt pulling back his hammer for a powerful smash, as Olberic leapt forwards, coating his blade in not just a divine aura, but another, denser energy that made it hard to completely make out the weapon.

"Feel the Chimera's Wrath!" Olberic cried, thrusting his blade forwards and swinging it upwards! It connected cleanly against Reinhardt, the sheer force of the attack and Reinhardt's own charge causing both warriors to stand in their positions with sparks flying from the point of contact, like a statue that was struggling to not move an inch. However, right as it seemed like this clash would have been a draw, Olberic pushed through once again, roaring out with power as he finally broke through the struggle and finished his upwards swing!

The power of this attack was, finally, too much for the Crusader Armor to handle. With a snap, crack, and finally the noise of metal being ripped apart, Reinhardt's treasured armor was ripped right through by the blow, leaving a wide crevice from his chest up his shoulder where it used to be! The result of this attack extended far beyond just the old warrior, however, the air pressure from the attack cutting through trees as it approached the mountain the two were previously fighting on!

However, neither fighter was focused on that. For Reinhardt, it was thanks to the large spurt of blood that just flew out from this massive cut, forcing him to grit his teeth. For Olberic, however, it was how the results affected his blade...now nothing more than a handle, parts of the blade stuck in Reinhardt's shoulder and parts of it now flying free in the wind. Shoot...he should've seen this coming! Before he could correct his mistake, Reinhardt was already back on the offensive, swinging his fully charged up hammer around to smash into the Blade's side!

"HA..." Reinhardt cried, continuing his swing this time to then twist around and leap into the air. "MMER..." he continued, his massive weapon and Olberic now high above his head. "DOWN!" would be the final words, as he finally swung his mighty weapon towards the ground! With a massive explosion of dirt, and a glowing spread of cracks along the ground that toppled a few more trees for good measure...it seemed like the fight was finally over.

(Fading Out: Unyielding - Death Battle Fanon Track)

Reinhardt lifted up his hammer, revealing Olberic back to the world as he staggered over a few steps to the side, finally kneeling and using his now cooling down hammer as a crutch as he processed the pain. Olberic, however, wasn't nearly as lucky--with a crater formed underneath him from the impact, blood was seeping from his new wounds, some even spilling out of his mouth as he looked up to the sky. Despite his grevious state, he couldn't help but smile in satisfaction. "In...credible..." he breathed out, struggling with his words. "Never...have I met...one of such power..." the now Warrior once more praised Reinhardt, before finally, with his eyes closing, he remarked "Not...since......"

He never finished his response.

Reinhardt, in response, shook as he fought to stay conscious. With a similarly satisfied smile, he shuddered out "You fought well...friend." he claimed, slowly falling onto his other knee. "You died...with..." he nearly finished...but unlike Olberic, he managed to finish his thought as he collapsed. "Glory..."

From beyond the fight, Olberic's attack's results would be made clear. The mountain that once stood tall was cracked up the middle by the shockwave, the final section having been launched clear off by the final explosion of power. Olberic may have lost...be he sure left one hell of a mark on the world.

KO![]

  • Ending Screen A: Reinhardt laying in the hospital, his armor set up by him and Torb sitting next to him. They're talking about the fight that just happened.
  • Ending Screen B: A memorial of Olberic has been set up, with his weapons--including the broken greatsword, set up in the front.

Results[]

Boomstick: Holy CRAP, this fight was awesome! Too bad 'bout that sword though, I could've used a good backscratcher.

Wiz: This was a close match, and I don't mean that lightly. Both Olberic and Reinhardt had ample ways to take down the other, what with Reinhardt's hammer and Olberic's vast array of weapons that could potentially tear him down in one good hit.

Boomstick: But unlucky for Olberic, he had to get past Reinhardt's armor. And lemme tell ya, that thing is INSANELY strong!

Wiz: Even if we scaled the Crusader Armor to even a little less of Hammond's crash, that still puts it far above the potential strength Olberic has if scaling him up to the mountain creating gods of his world.

Boomstick: It's about 10 Tons against over 200 Tons! Even assuming Olberic could potentially boost up towards the armor's level, it's gonna take a while, something he doesn't exactly have thanks to his limited amount of stamina to use his booster-techniques, and since both him and Rein are about as fast as eachother normally. Not wearin' much armor doesn't help matters.

Wiz: There's also the fault that even IF Olberic could reach that power with his stronger moves, he wouldn't be able to consistently strike Reinhardt harder than he himself could tear down Olberic. See, most of his techniques require a resource to properly use, whether that be stamina, or in Nightmare Chimera's case, the weapon itself.

Boomstick: Yeah, having a cool super-blow is great and all, but if you break your weapon to do it and the guy's still alive, what's the point?

Wiz: Despite Olberic's overwhelming might and skill, Reinhardt had enough bulk to weather the storm of blows, and allow his superior experience, endurance, and more consistent output of damage break this Unbending Blade.

Boomstick: Olberic sure was a nightmare to get a handle on, but Reinhardt Earthshattered our expectations.

Wiz: The winner is Reinhardt.

Next Time[]

Two figures flutter in the night, each flittering about as sillouettes as they attack eachother. One leaves behind glittering dust, as the other summons a barrier of light to defend themself before firing glowing nails to counter. Both of them dash about, before flying upwards and nearly colliding, the moon the only backdrop for these new fighters.

"Veno!"/"You have come a long way, just to die here at the edge of the world."

Venomoth vs Markoth

Trivia[]

  • The connection between these combatants is that they're both honorable Crusaders who, while initially losing their purpose, regain it at the hour they're needed most. They're both also defense-oriented fighters who protect their team whilst dealing out damage, honorable as they fight for their home. They both also lost a great ally, which is the catalyst for them going down the paths they did. There's also an 'Unstoppable Force vs Immovable Object' theme between the two of them, being Olberic's blade and Reinhardt's shield/armor respectively.
  • The name of the battle soundtrack would be 'Unyielding', which fits both characters to a tee in terms of their sheer dedication. The cover art would be of Olberic's blade swinging at Reinhardt's shield, creating a multi-facing lightning spark that splits the cover down the middle.
  • The battle would be 2D sprite animated.
  • Thanks to Big Shark for creating the Venokoth Trailer!
