Trivia[]
- The connection between both teams is that they are idiotic groups from long-running influential Sci-Fi comedies (with Red Dwarf pioneering the Sci-Fi sitcom genre and Red vs. Blue creating interest in machinima) who are both associated with the colour red. Both teams have also had to deal with plots ranging from overcoming much more powerful and competent beings to altering history via time travel. The combatants of both teams posses many connections as well:
- Rimmer and Sarge are both arrogant leaders of their crew thanks to their rank, albeit their positions being challenged multiple times (Lister nearly outranking Rimmer or the original Red Dwarf crew being revived and the original captain replacing Rimmer while Grif being promoted to Sergeant twice). Despite their incompetence, they have been able to formulate plans to save their teams in the moment (Rimmer defeating t simulants despite having an outgunned ship and Sarge formulating a plan to kill the Meta). Sarge is also rather stubborn and frequently charges into battle while Rimmer is more cowardly and often hides behind his crewmates.
- Lister and Grif are both lazy alcoholics who are often distant to others but have opened up to their friends over the course of the series. They also constantly bicker with their respective commanders and have respective foods they frequently wish to eat (Curry and poppadoms for Lister and pizza and oreos for Grif).
- Kryten and Simmons are both initially suck-ups to their commanders but over time, start to lose this trait and even rebel against Rimmer or Sarge. In addition, Kryten is an android who broke his programming by learning to lie and can be considered as partially human while Simmons was a human who had 30% of his body replaced with metal meaning both could be considered as cyborgs.
- Cat and Donut are both flamboyant members of their group with a large interest in fashion. In addition, they frequently make jokes about their sexualities with Cat constantly bragging about his sexual appeal while Donut's double enténdres are one of the longest-running jokes in Red vs. Blue.
- Holly and Lopez are both monotone AIs who are often seen as dumb and useless by the crew despite their ability to create highly advanced devices. In addition, both Holly and Lopez are commonly present as a head and they were both completely absent from their show for 2 seasons at a time (6-7 and 10-11 for Holly and 8-9 for Lopez if you count him appearing as a scarecrow in season 10).
- If this fight were to be adapted, it would be in live-action. While not the ideal style for the Red Team, there have been official videos portraying the team in such a medium and would work better than the Red Dwarf crew in 3D.
