History[]

Born during the Republic Era on the planet Courscant, Qui-Gon Jinn was identified as Force-sensitive in his early life, and was taken into the Jedi Order. As he grew up, Qui-Gon achieved the rank of Jedi Padawan, and was appointed the apprentice of Jedi Master Dooku. Following decades of devotion to the Jedi Order, Qui-Gon was promoted to the rank of Jedi Master, where he took on an apprentice of his own, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

At some point during his life, Qui-Gon discovered the secrets to maintaining one's self after death. This completely altered Qui-Gon's philosophy into one that strongly focused on committment to the Living Force, which he faithfully adhered to throughout the rest of his life.

His choice to follow this path created would result in Qui-Gon questioning his purpose as a conventional Jedi. As a result, he would defy the expectations and orders of the Jedi High Council, whom had offered Qui-Gon a position within their ranks. Though Qui-Gon remained with the Jedi Order in spite of their disagreements.

During the Naboo crisis, Qui-Gon was dispatched by the Supreme Chancellor to negotiate with the Trade Federation. However, their negoitations were short. Their attempts to evacuate the Queen of Naboo resulted in their unexpected arrival on Tatooine, where Qui-Gon discovered a young slave boy named Anakin Skywalker.

After observing the boy's connection to the Force was greater than even Grand Master Yoda, Qui-Gon was convinced that he had discovered the prophecized Chosen One that would bring balance to the Force. Immediately, Qui-Gon brought Anakin with him to be trained as a Jedi. Before their departure, however, Qui-Gon encountered Darth Maul, the first Sith Lord to appear in over a millennium.

Reporting on both of these matters, Qui-Gon made his intentions clear that he wished to take Anakin as his apprentice. However, the Jedi High Council disagreed with Qui-Gon's intentions, but acknowledged that the Sith's return needed to be confirmed. Returning to Naboo, Qui-Gon diligently fought in the Battle of Theed, ensuring the planet's liberation from the Trade Federation.

During the battle, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were confronted by Darth Maul and engaged in a lightsaber duel. Through carefully seperating Qui-Gon from his apprentice, Darth Maul killed Qui-Gon, leaving Obi-Wan to defeat Darth Maul alone. Before his death, Qui-Gon instructed Obi-Wan to train Anakin, as, even in death, Qui-Gon still believed that Anakin was the Chosen One. Although he did not complete his training, Qui-Gon's knowledge on maintaining his consciousness after death allowed him to survive as a disembodied voice.

Despite the shared belief by all who knew him that he had truly died, Qui-Gon was able to commune with Yoda during the final days of the Clone Wars, and guided him towards learning the secrets of eternal consciousness, better known as learning to become a Force Ghost. From there, Qui-Gon would guide his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi to learn these secrets as well. Following the Rise of the Empire, Qui-Gon would train to physically manifest himself as a Force Ghost and provided guidance wherever he could to those who survived the Great Jedi Purge.
