Description[]

Silent Hill vs. The Evil Within. Manifestations of secrets bearing oversized weapons and unusual heads.

Introduction[]

Wiz: We all have secrets that we wish to keep buried deep within our minds. Sometimes they're best left uncovered or must be exposed for the greater good.

Boomstick: And sometimes they incarnate into terrifying monstrosities. Like Pyramid Head, the executioner of Silent Hills.

Wiz: And the Keeper, the Guardian of Ruvik's secrets.

Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Pyramid Head[]

Wiz: The town of Silent Hill is a location unlike any other you can find, and nor should you want to.

Boomstick: Yeah, you'd think a place that can create incarnations of your thoughts would be a tourist trap or something, but when the holy thoughts that come to life are those nightmarish monsters, you'd want to steer well clear of it.

Wiz: Like the Psymoon from a popular British sci-fi sitcom, Silent Hill takes the deepest darkest emotions and thoughts of a person and further twists them, creating a nightmare world often unique to a single person, filled to the brim with monstrous manifestations of their negative drives.

Boomstick: Just like what the town did to the guilt of one James Sutherland. Long spoiler short, he euthanized his ailing wife, whose medical condition left her completely bedridden.

Wiz: Whether the act can be classified as a mercy killing or not, the guilt consumed James, so when he was lured to Silent Hill by a letter somehow written by his deceased wife, the town brought it to life.

Boomstick: Into the one-and-only...Red Pyramid Thing. But you might call him Pyramid Head.

Wiz: That'd be a given, considering just what passes for this thing's head.

Boomstick: With that for a skull, it's a small wonder that Pyramid Head stands out, even amongst the usual denizens of Silent Hill. In fact, most of them have a good reason to avoid him.

Wiz: And we're not talking about the survivor characters, it's Pyramid Head's fellow monsters that have reason to fear him.

Boomstick: Unless they want a session of angry sex with the world's creepiest hat model, they'd best get out of dodge before he finds them.

Wiz: So you can find them first?

Boomstick: Oh I see, just because I tried to take one store mannequin home with me, that makes me a public undesirable?

Wiz: Often does, and fortunately for you, Pyramid Head isn't interested in punishing you for that, because he only stalks those who wish for punishment, like James for killing his wife.

Boomstick: Yet James still has that natural aversion to head the hell out of dodge whenever he sees that triangular terror coming his way, especially with what he's packing to deliver his subconsciously wanted penance.

Wiz: Like his Great Knife. With a length of well over 4 feet, the blade is so heavy that Pyramid Head has to drag it around.

Boomstick: That doesn't stop him from hauling it upwards for a devastating swipe that's liable to cut anyone poor enough to get hit in half. It's tough enough to rend solid steel for Pete's sake.

Wiz: The Great Knife may be the most iconic of Pyramid Head's arsenal, but it's not the only Great thing in there. Literally, because he can also pull out the Great Spear.

Popup: Pyramid Head's power set from Dead by Daylight is omitted as a non-canon crossover edit.

Boomstick: This thing is eight feet long and made of pure iron and you can bet your butt it's hurt if it prods you even a little.

Wiz: And it can even be hurled over long distances, making running from Pyramid Head all the more difficult.

Boomstick: Alongside the embodiment of kill-it-with-fire, his pet bug swarms.

Wiz: With control over legions upon legions of crawling insects, Pyramid Head can have them engulf his prey and we all know what that means.

Boomstick: I shudder to do. But even then, Pyramid Head has one more creepy power up his sleeve; his titular head.

Wiz: Evidently made of metal, this head is resistance to the shots from firearms like a pistol or a shotgun.

Boomstick: So in order to actually hurt Pyramid Head, you'd need to get him from beneath that thing. But that's when you're going to get another nasty surprise; tentacles! Horrible slithering tentacles determined to make all your Hentai nightmares come true!

Wiz: The capabilities of Pyramid Head's cranium go much further than that however. If a person is forced to wear it, then they end up transforming into another Pyramid Head.

Boomstick: That might explain why there are two of them by the end. Speaking of which, if Pyramid Head is James' imaginary fiend, why does it appear to that other guy in Homecoming?

Wiz: Good question. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he accidentally drowned his own brother. Or maybe Silent Hill itself knew a frightening agent of punishment when they see one and decided to keep him around.

Boomstick: I wonder...what part of my psyche would Silent Hills create as a monster? Probably something to do with guns.

Wiz: Or something to do with beer.

Boomstick: Well...yeah probably.

Wiz: Pyramid Head has more than cemented itself as a formidable presence in Silent Hill, thanks mainly to his incredible strength, which is what allows him to wield the Great Knife in the first place.

Popup: In Book of Memories, Pyramid Head has no issues at all with wielding the knife.

Boomstick: It's estimated to weigh at least 150 kilograms, and since that's only with one hand, Pyramid Head could be capable of lifting twice as much as that (Viturino).

Wiz: When James is able to wield the Knife, Pyramid Head is merely staggered by a strike from it. Pyramid Head can flay a person alive with a single tug on their skin, smash through metal doors and gates and is immensely stronger than the likes of James, who is able to crush the skulls of monsters with a single stomp.

Boomstick: And on the opposite end, most monsters can overpower James if he isn't careful. So yeah, Red Pyramid Thing is an absolute beast.

Wiz: And in all his appearances, Pyramid Head has never been truly beaten. In fact, the one time he, or they, died was when James decided to move on for his desire to be punished.

Boomstick: Their job of intense therapy fulfilled, they jammed their own spears into their necks, taking their own lives. So is that a win for them or for James?

Wiz: Maybe a bit of both. But as we've seen, whenever one wishes for punishment, regardless of their level of awareness, Pyramid Head will come to fulfil that wish.

The Keeper[]

Wiz: The man who would become known as Ruvik had a great many secrets. One that he had a rather had time keeping concealed was that fact he was a certified madman.

Boomstick: Eh, it takes a kind of madness in order to achieve what he did.

Wiz: Through toil and a drive to see his dead sister again, Ruvik created the STEM System, a machine that would allow the user to live through their old memories like they were a physical place. But Ruvik's funders, the organization Mobius, had other plans for the system.

Boomstick: The fun kind of plans; world domination. So they took Ruvik's brain and made it the core of the STEM so it could continue to operate.

Wiz: An idea it may have been, it was anything but a good one. Now serving as the heart of his own creation, Ruvik was able to twist and corrupt the mental world into his own personal playground, complete with all manner of monsters that each reflect one part of Ruvik's psyche.

Boomstick: Being turned into a stationary brain gave Ruvik a lot of time to reflect on the fact he probably hadn't kept his secrets guarded well enough. The STEM complied with this new focus and so created the Keeper.

Wiz: A safe-headed monstrosity whose hobbies involve killing people and dressing like a butcher.

Boomstick: Aren't those things sort of the same? They both involve cutting and killing things.

Wiz: Well, butchers don't do that to people or hard-boiled detectives, or try to anyway.

Boomstick: Oh yeah, that reminds me, the Keeper was a key opponent towards detective Sebastian Castellanos during his trek through the STEM, and he left quite the lasting impression on him, considering he was among the boss-rush catalogue which that evil priest pulled out against old Sebbie.

Wiz: And both times, the Keeper had everything he needed to be a truly daunting opponent.

Boomstick: Like that giant hammer of his. Not only can it turn most skulls into mush, but he knows how to wield it like a boss!

Wiz: Be it with the studded head or the spiked end, the hammer is definitely a devastating weapon. The Keeper's second is a bag.

Boomstick: A bag? What's no bad about that?

Wiz: Well, aside from most likely containing the brains and/or innards of all his victims, it's also decked out with nasty little spikes that can do some real damage if a swing of it connects. Plus, it doesn't look vary sanitary.

Boomstick: With those kind of weapons, you'd want to be as far away from the Keeper as possible but he's not going to make it easy for you.

Wiz: He can deploy mines that, when stepped on, snare their victims with barbed wire. And that brings us to quite possibly the most under-noticed trait of the Keeper; his surprising cunning. How else can he make so many of those mines, not to mention all those traps.

Boomstick: I suppose that's also how he formulates his best strategy; killing himself! And no, it doesn't benefit you in any way.

Wiz: As it turns out, whenever Pyramid Head is struck down, he can respawn from another safe in the vicinity. Whilst there are only a few handfuls anywhere the Keeper goes, as long as there's one he can always come back.

Boomstick: And he knows it too. Someplace where he can't get to; he'll make sure there's a safe in there and break his own neck to pop out of it. Sometimes as a fully grown Keeper, or a little baby Keeper with nothing but tentacles coming out of the safe.

Wiz: Kind of reminds me of my own vault.

Boomstick: Speaking of which, Wiz, when are you going to get my fingers out of it? It's been tough flipping people off lately and I can't even do the double barrel variation.

Wiz: Oh, I'll give them back, but only if you stop trying to steal my money.

Boomstick: We both know I can't promise that. Hang on a moment, haven't we missed out all the weapons the Keeper uses in The Executioner?

Wiz: Well, that was only when he was being controlled by one Pedro Martin. The Keeper itself has never shown access to these weapons on its own merits. But Pedro's control over the Keeper has helped demonstrate to us its capabilities.

Boomstick: Like when they did battle with the Amalgam Alpha, which can flip whole cars with ease, and lifted the giant club belonging to those weird un-conjoined twins.

Wiz: Thanks to the Keeper's metal head, which can block shots from any kind of gun save a rocket launcher, he's also incredibly hard to put down, even with the extra respawn safes that he can use.

Boomstick: And even if you take down one, that's not the end of it, because as it turns out, there are in fact multiple Keepers. The highest number even fought was three and there are likely loads more.

Wiz: It takes a lot to ultimately put down a Keeper, though wide, spread-out means of attacks that deal a lot of simultaneous damage can do the trick.

Boomstick: But it takes steady hands to pull off, and the one thing most people, save a hardened detective, lack is a pair of steady hands whenever they hear the sound of a hammer pounding on a metal skull.

Interlude[]

Wiz: Alright the combatants are set and we've run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!

The Battle[]

Setting: Dark, dank laboratory-like lair

The sounds of screaming could be heard throughout the enclosure, until the doors at either sides of the room swung open with a deafening clang. From one came the Keeper, its bag of brains freshly dripping. The other featured Pyramid Head, dragging its bloodied Great Knife behind it. The two monsters, in spite of their eyeless faces, squared each other down and let out their respective deafening moans.

FIGHT!

The monsters slogged forward, brought their heads back and slammed them against the others, creating a deafening clang. Keeper and Pyramid Head grinded their heads together, showering the dimly lit room with sparks, before they in union pulled backwards, blindly swinging up their weapons as they did. The hammer and Great Knife recoiled back from the strike, their masters regaining their balance in the same span of time. Pyramid Head was the first to perform a follow-up attack, hauling the Great Knife back upwards to slash it down at the Keeper, who stepped backwards to let the weapon embed itself in the ground. As Pyramid Head tugged on the stuck weapon, Keeper came forward and swung its hammer, slamming it into Pyramid Head's head twice over. Pyramid Head's gaze snapped back and forth at the attacks, but gave no implication that they had hurt it. Instead, he merely swung the Knife out of the ground, the tip of the weapon catching the Keeper in the shoulder, leaving a shallow wound and making it stumble backwards. Pyramid Head swung the Great Knife outwards, the Keeper acting fast enough to avoid getting caught by pulling backwards. He darted back forward, swinging its hammer out again, but Pyramid Head grabbed tits wrist, stopping the blunt instrument from hitting it. Pyramid Head itself drew back the Knife to try and run the Keeper through with it only for the Keeper to grab the very point itself, stopping it short in spite of the blood that leaked out of its hand. The Keeper then pulled its hand forwards, ending the force pushing on the Great Knife and making Pyramid Head suddenly stumble forward. Tits allowed the Keeper to grab a hold of Pyramid Head's throat with its freed bloody hand, squeezing it and making Pyramid Head release its wrist. Tits allowed the Keeper to start raining down hammer blows onto its foe's head. Pyramid Head bellowed in frustration at being both trapped and battered, in addition to the continuous attacks forcing it onto one knee. Eventually, he let out a bellow and twisted its head out that the extension of it blocked the latest hammer attack, juddering the Keeper's hand.

Seeing its chance, Pyramid Head was able to pull back and free its throat from Keeper's hold. As he pulled backwards, Pyramid Head slashed out with the Great Knife, cutting the Keeper across its chest and spraying out blood. Keeper stumbled backwards and Pyramid Head stood back up. The Keeper let out a grunt at its foe before the latter performed another overhead downwards attack, which the Keeper blocked with the shaft of its hammer. Wrenching its weapon the side to do the same with Pyramid Head's, the Keeper attempted another series of attacks, but with a reversal of its grip on the Great Knight, Pyramid Head brought it up at each of the Keeper's attacks to deflect them. Even when the Keeper performed a downwards swing, Pyramid Head was able to haul the Great Knife up enough to catch the studs with the blade's edge. At tits, Pyramid Head twisted the Great Knife so that the hammer was wrenched from the Keeper's grasp, sending it to clang down onto the ground. Pyramid Head breathed in satisfaction and turned back to 'look' at the Keeper, who he now believed to be helpless, only to get struck in the face with its spiked back. The spikes scraped the metal head of Pyramid Head and the blood from its contents splattered all over it. If Pyramid Head had possessed eyes, he would have been blinded, but the blood merely annoyed it. So he brought its Great Knife up, holding the blade with its other hand and stabbed it forwards at the Keeper. Although he was fast enough to avoid getting skewered, the Knife still found something to stab through; the Keeper's bag, resulting in the unorthodox weapon getting pinned to the wall with a splat. Realizing he had missed its target, Pyramid Head turned its invisible gaze onto the Keeper, who stood on the other side of the lodged blade. Pyramid Head pulled back its fist and swung it into the Keeper's head. Unfortunately, that head was a solid metal safe, so all Pyramid Head ended up with was bloodied knuckles. The monster itssed before the Keeper slugged it in return across its head, pushing it back and forcing it to release the handle of the Great Knife, leaving it sticking out of the wall.

The Keeper barreled into Pyramid Head and the two began to grapple, slamming each other into the walls after the other's turn to do so. Eventually, it ended with the Keeper pinning its foe against the wall. The two stared at each other with their featureless faces, before the Keeper's safe-head suddenly swung open and out came a mass of tentacles that gripped Pyramid Head's head, beginning an attempt to crush it. However, Pyramid Head had an answer to tits, and unleashed its own tentacle, which struck away the Keeper's and freeing itself. Pyramid Head's hand shot out to grab the back of the Keeper's head and slam it into the wall over and over again, leaving a square shaped hole. The bashing soon began so vigorous that by the time Pyramid Head stepped back, the Keeper's face was firmly planted into the wall. Pyramid Head stepped back to observe its handiwork, noticing that the Keeper still operated when it placed its hands on the wall to try and pull itself free. Breathing ominously, Pyramid Head stalked back towards the Great Knife, pulling out of the wall.

But just before he turned back to face the Keeper, there came a wet cracking noise. Pyramid Head turned around and saw that the Keeper had broken its own neck, its body now dangling there limply. Pyramid Head cocked its head to the side and cautiously approached the motionless monster, before the sounds of running grabbed its attention. He turned and the Keeper barreled into it. Pyramid Head stumbled backwards before the Keeper scooped up its hammer and swung its pointed other-end into its metal head, using the lodge to spin its rival monster around and toss into the wall. Slumping down from the attack, Pyramid Head watched as the Keeper dropped two items on the ground; two safes identical to the one serving as its head. They shuddered before growing into two new Keepers, both wielding hammers and spiked bags.

Pyramid Head calmly looked on as he climbed back to its feet before one of the new Keepers charged at it, its hammer poised for a strike. But that was then a second Pyramid Head came out the darkness to its left and ran it through with its own great knife. The two remaining Keepers bellowed in anger before another Pyramid Head followed its brethren from the shadows. The Keepers and Pyramid Heads, two to three, roared at each other and began fighting, clashing their weapons together multiple times. Whilst one Keeper and one Pyramid Head locked their weapons together, two Pyramid Heads battled one Keeper, the latter keeping its foes at bay by dual-wielding its hammer and bag. After getting its 'face' slashed with the nails of the bag, one of the Pyramid Heads dropped its Great Knife and pulled out its Great Spear. The Keeper sensed the oncoming attack and turned around fast enough to deflect the spear stab and slam the top of its hammer's head into its chest, forcing the Pyramid Head backwards. However, tits left it open for the other Pyramid Head to shank it from behind with the Spear. The Keeper roared before twisting around and grabbing the shaft of the spear, wrenching it upwards to jam it through its owner's neck.

Meanwhile, the weapons-lock between the Keeper and Pyramid Head ended when the former pushed against its hammer to force Pyramid Head back before bringing the hammer and spiked sack backwards to swing them both into either side of its foe's head. One side of it was pierced in multiple places whilst the other was dented beyond repair. Tits Keeper watched the Pyramid Head collapse backwards whilst its copy moved over to join it. But before it could, a spear suddenly witstled through the air and skewered it through the chest, knocking back and causing bloody liquid to pour from its safe. The remaining, original Keeper turned its gaze upwards to see the last Pyramid Head, the one knocked back during the two-on-one duel, had somehow managed to get on the walkway that overlooked the room, several Great Spears at hand. With grunts, Pyramid Head started hurling them down at the Keeper, forcing it to dodge or whack away the projectiles. After getting nicked by one of the spears, the Keeper darted for its dead brethren, ripped off its head and hurled it upwards so that it landed on the walkway next to Pyramid Head. The Keeper then expertly caught one of the spears hurled at it and jammed it into its own chest, destroying its eternals and making its body cease function. Pyramid Head growled in confusion before he snapped its head around to witness the Keeper sprout up from the safe, swinging its hammer as he came back into being that connected directly to Pyramid Head's head. The monster stumbled back as the Keeper began striking it repeatedly with its spiked bag and hammer, keeping Pyramid Head dazed and off-balance. The assault resulted in Pyramid Head tumbling backwards, grapping the handrail as he did to stop itself going backwards any further. The monster roared in anger and swung the Great Knife around in a whirl, cutting the Keeper across the chest several times in addition to the ground of the walkway itself. Underneath the attacks, the walkway weakened until it looked like it was about to snap in half. The Keeper pulled backwards, looking at the damaged walkway then back at Pyramid Head, who was hoisting the Great Knife above its head for another signature attack.

But before the attack could be performed, the Keeper tossed out a barbed wire trap onto the ground, which Pyramid Head's foot came down onto as he stepped forward for the attack. The wires wrapped around its ankle and the walkway's holes, trapping Pyramid Head there as he roared in protest. The Keeper raised its hammer up before swinging it down onto the weakened walkway with all its might, the final bit of stress needed for it to break in half. Whilst the Keeper landed on the ground cleanly, Pyramid Head, trapped to the falling section of the walkway, took the full brunt of the collapsing structure as it crashed down. Though he was able to climb back to its feet, its movements were pained to go along with its battered form and dented head. From behind it came the rasping of the Great Knife on the ground as the Keeper marched towards it, having picked up the weapon for itself. All Pyramid Head could do was turn around just in time for its foe to whirl about and slash the Great Knife down into its chest, through its right shoulder to its left hip. Pyramid Head's two halves fell with a splat onto the ground, which the Keeper observed passively before stalking away, dragging its new weapon behind it.

KO!

Outcome[]

Boomstick: Let it be known that any pyramid themed villain can be taken out with a massive sword, be they have a head of a pyramid or part of a scheme with one.

Wiz: Surprisingly, this was much more of an one-sided matchup than one might expect. Even in the world of horror video games, there's always one being that is stronger than another.

Boomstick: Well that's pretty obvious. Pyramid Head's victims usually involve normal pedestrians and the like, but the Keeper has battled against a trained police officer, making him run for his life at certain points.

Popup: Sebastian was much more athletic and faster reacting than Pyramid Head's targets.

Wiz: There are a few more important factors to this outcome, obviously, like the difference in intelligence. Whilst Pyramid Head is often single-minded in his pursuit of others, the Keeper is fully capable of borderline-tactical thinking. Like the time it employed its own respawn ability to get the drop on Sebastian, or being clever enough to utilize hand-made mines.

Boomstick: Pyramid Head also lacked the raw strength the Keeper had. After all, wielding a massive knife is no substitute for being able to whack around a car and whilst Pyramid Head can take a lot of bullet shots, he likely wouldn't last against the kind of strength that goes into car ping-pong. Just to prove it, by taking into account the Great Knife's weight, what Pyramid Head should be able to do with both hands and how he can lift up a whole human with it, then the Keeper is 5 times stronger.

Popup: The fact that Pyramid Head killed itself using its spear once James overcame his desire for punishment shows that Pyramid Head is still susceptible to death via physical harm, rather than strictly metaphysical.

Wiz: Whilst Pyramid Head was a deadly monster within Silent Hill, the Keeper proved its superior in the area of strength, experience and intelligence.

Boomstick: Still, its Safe to say we were Kept in suspense during this entire fight.

Wiz: The winner is the Keeper.

Trivia[]

  • Connections: Both are monster villains from horror video games who are manifestations of the guilt and secrets of others who have strange metal heads. However, whilst Pyramid Head seeks to have James face his sins, the Keeper works to ensure Ruvik's are never uncovered. Coincidentally, both have been unofficially titled "the Executioner" (Pyramid Head is known as this in Dead by Daylight and the Keeper's DLC is called The Executioner).
  • Animation Style: 3D.
  • OST Evil: 'Silent Evil', which is not only deprived from the titles of the video games both combatants are from, but also Keeper's occupation of keeping the evil deeds of Ruvik secret.
