Punisher vs. Red Hood is a What-If? episode of Death Battle.
Description[]
Marvel VS DC! The Punisher takes on the Red Hood in a violent and bloody brawl with no mercy! Can Frank hold his own against Batman's former pupil turned anti-hero?
Interlude[]
(Cue: Invader - Jim Johnston)
Boomstick: Know how superheroes go by the old, squeaky-clean tradition of no killing? Well, these two say, "Screw that!"
Wiz: These ruthless anti-heroes take the law into their own hands, dishing out their own violent and brutal brand of justice.
Boomstick: Frank Castle, the Punisher .
Wiz: And Jason Todd, the Red Hood. For this match-up, there'll be no Franken-Castle, no venom, no divine essence, and no All-Blades.
Boomstick: Just a gun, knife, and fist fight to the brutal end... just the way these two love to work. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick...
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
Punisher[]
(Cue: Vengence - Punisher)
Wiz: There are many vigilantes throughout the Marvel universe who defend the streets, from the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to Daredevil, the man without fear.
Boomstick: But there's one so scary that even the most hardened criminals shake in their boots thinking about him... the Punisher.
Wiz: But before he was the scourge of the underworld, he was simply a man born and raised in Queen's named Frank Castiglione.
Boomstick: Wait, I thought his name was Frank Castle.
Wiz: It is, but Castiglione was his original last name. See, Frank enlisted in the Marine Corps, quickly rose to the rank of Captain, and served in Vietnam for four years and three terms... the last of which he illegally entered by changing his name.
Boomstick: Frank CASTLE was a decorated soldier with everything from the Medal of Honor to the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Well the time finally came for him to come home to his wife Maria, his daughter Lisa, and his son Frank Jr. One day, while flying kites in Central Park, his entire life just crashed and burned before him.
(Cue: In Time - Mark Collie)
Wiz: The four of them had just happened upon a mob murder. Fearing potential witnesses to their crime, the mobsters responsible fired at them, and Frank was the only survivor of the shooting.
Boomstick: He went to testify his case in court, but was denied due to the police basically being on the Mafia's payroll.
Wiz: With his family's murder unanswered and the law failing him, Frank abandoned his former career as a Marine and vowed to spend the rest of his life avenging his family. He began to wage a one-man war against crime as the Punisher.
(Cue: Still Running - Chevelle)
Boomstick: Wonder where the white skull fits into all this. Well with all the training and expertise mastered in his time as a marine, as well as guerrilla warfare tactics, detective skills, and a willingness to use whatever methods necessary, he became pretty notorious right off the bat. And unlike, say, the amazing Spider-Man, he almost always prefers to kill criminals.
Wiz: He's mastered various martial arts, ranging from Karate and Jujutsu to Sambo, Krav Maga, and even Ninjitsu. He's also skilled in the use of knives, and carries multiple on his person at a time, including the Gerber Mark 2 and Ka-Bar.
Boomstick: But it's no secret that as one of the best snipers in his class, he's proficient with just about any firearm he can get his hands on. Handguns, machine guns, shotguns... any gun is amazing in his hands, really. Well some of his favorites are his M60 rifle with a grenade launcher attachment, dual Uzi 9mm, and Remington Derringer pistol.
Wiz: He further enhances his arsenal with zoom, reflex and night vision scopes, sound and flash suppressors, and various specialty rounds, ranging from non-lethal "mercy bullets" to adamantium-tipped. The Punisher's uniform has gone through many variations over the years, from a full-on suit to everyday clothing and leather jackets, camouflaged fatigues...
Boomstick: And that one time he wore a suit inspired by Captain America...
Wiz: But all of them share his trademark white skull, whose teeth are actually compartments that store more ammunition. He sometimes wears kevlar vests and chest plates to protect against firearms.
Boomstick: From his first meeting with the web-head onward, Punisher has more than cemented his terrifying reputation. He's thrown off eight attackers at once, casually lifts people with one hand, managed to block a throw from Captain America's shield, and took down a gang of 42 people in one sitting.
Wiz: Taking down entire gangs of armed goons is basically clockwork to Frank at this point and he's also managed to hold his ground against some of Marvel's seasoned heroes, including Black Widow, Bucky Barnes, and Moon Knight.
Boomstick: And that's not counting some baddies like Bullseye, Barracuda, and even the electrical supervillain Electro. He killed one of the Vulture's, as well as the massive body-building Russian... twice. The second time, he was revived and upgraded to the point where even Spidey had trouble fighting him.
Wiz: He's pretty resourceful when the occasion calls for it and his strategies have even allowed him to survive encounters with the Wolverine.
Boomstick: And then there was that time where ol' Wolvie teamed up with Spider-Man and Daredevil to take him down. After the trap was sprung, he took the clawed mutant out with an RPG, tricked Spidey into thinking he was trapped in a room filled with explosives when they were actually fakes, and when he and the man without fear were falling out of a building, he left Matt Murdock with two dislocated arms.
(Cue: Piece By Piece - Strata)
Wiz: But his most impressive physical characteristic of all is his incredibly high pain tolerance. He's managed to walk off a fall from a few stories onto his back, car crashes that resulted in broken bones, getting blasted by an old Iron Man suit, and once when being struck by two tasers at once, he still managed the strength necessary to pull out and fire his weapons.
Boomstick: We could do this all day, really. He's been fine after a rifle butt breaking on his head, caught a piece of glass in his hands before breaking it himself, kept fighting after losing a rib to a shotgun blast, and, I kid you not, took shrapnel from a claymore INTENTIONALLY just to give himself weapons inside his own flesh for later. Is pain just a suggestion for him?
Wiz: Frank even refuses to take painkillers, believing their ability to dull pain isn't worth the risk of dulling his senses.
Boomstick: No doubt about it, Frank Castle's the Rocky Balboa of the Marvel universe. No matter how much of a beating he takes, he'll keep going and going even when he's completely outclassed.
Wiz: However, despite being a former marine, Frank's mental state has been shown to deteriorate multiple times over the years. He can become quite sadistic in regards to how he deals out justice to his enemies, and he's aged considerably since the Vietnam War.
Boomstick: Yeah, I don't think old age is going to be much of a problem for a guy who is basically an unstoppable criminal killing machine.
Wiz: Inspite of his resistance to pain, he's still a non-superpowered human and has been killed a few times.
Boomstick: He's died at the hands of Wolverine's son Daken, his Ultimate universe counterpart, and once while the world was about to end, he took on a terrorist group called the Black Dawn before succumbing to gunshot wounds... though naturally, he took them down with him.
Wiz: In a world filled with superhumans, monsters, and immortal gods, it's no wonder that criminals everywhere fear the Punisher most of all.
Alternate end quote:
Punisher: Let me put you out of my misery.
The Punisher pushes Jigsaw onto an open fire as the latter screams in pain.
Punisher: This is just the beginning.
Red Hood[]
(Cue: A Death In The Family - Batman: Under the Red Hood)
Wiz: While Batman is one of the most feared heroes in the DC universe, he didn't accomplish everything alone.
Boomstick: That's where you get your Batgirl's, Batwomen, and of course your Robins. Bat's very first sidekick was Dick Grayson, the circus performer-turned-orphan. Then the day came where he decided to leave the nest and became his own crime-fighter Nightwing.
Wiz: This left a void for some time until one night when Batman stumbled upon a boy trying to steal the Batmobile's tires.
Boomstick: NO ONE steals Batman's tires and gets away with it! Well, this orphan was Jason Todd, whose adopted mother was an addict that died of an overdose and whose birth pappy worked for Two-Face before being killed by the acid-scarred criminal.
Wiz: Fearing that young Jason would go down the wrong path, Batman adopted him and by the age of 12, he would become the second Robin.
Boomstick: Things worked out pretty well, except this Robin was incredibly impulsive, often using his rage and excessive force to subdue criminals. Eventually, he grew so reckless that Batman had to put him on the sideline.
Wiz: But upon discovering a hunch as to his birth mother's whereabouts, Jason headed to the Middle East where he did find her...
Boomstick: ...only to find that the Joker was also in the neighborhood. Jason told Batman the Clown Prince's plans, and the Dark Knight went off to stop a truck of Joker Venom while the second Robin went after his mother. Naturally it was a trap and he was in the Joker's clutches, beaten with a crowbar, and left with a bomb. Batman raced back as fast as he could and...
KA-BOOM!
Wiz: It was the first time that one of his young wards had died on duty - an event that would haunt Batman for years to come.
Boomstick: I know what I'd be thinking if I were him. "I know! I'll just adopt another one!" Jason Todd would be dead for some time until...
Wiz: Superboy-Prime punched the walls of reality, bringing Jason back to life...
Boomstick: WHAT?!
Wiz: However, he was physically weak and soon went into a coma. It was then that he was found by Talia al Ghul, who spent years trying to restore Jason to full health. When her father considered him a lost cause, she resorted to immersing Jason in the Lazarus Pit.
Boomstick: Oh yeah, that magical bathtub that restores people's youth.
(Cue: Pursuit - Batman Arkham Knight)
Wiz: Sure enough, it worked and Jason Todd was fully restored. Feeling bitter about his death being unavenged, he traveled the globe to train like his old mentor and donned an identity once used by the Joker himself: the Red Hood.
Boomstick: His martial arts prowess includes the likes of Karate, Aikido, Kickboxing, Capoeira, Krav Maga, Tae Kwon Do, Savate, and Ninjutsu. His fighting style focuses on brutality, speed, and strength. He's trained under many masters aside from Bats, including the likes of Bronze Tiger, Lady Shiva, and Ducra, a 3000 year old lady.
Wiz: He carries multiple tools on his person, including gas and flashbang grenades, a grapnel gun, wrist-mounted lasers, shurikens, sticky explosives, bolas, and a knife and a taser.
Boomstick: But he definitely prefers to get lethal and his favorite toys for dishing out death are his custom dual handguns. These babies can be fired rapidly, use various rounds including armor-piercing, and can even be electrified to add an extra spark to his pistol whip.
Wiz: Aside from them, he's proficient with most firearms, from assault weapons and sniper rifles to RPG's. His use of armor has been somewhat mixed, including a basic jacket and t-shirt, as well as old Nightwing suits. Some of his higher-end uniforms are bullet-proof and include a built-in taser to get foes off of him when needed.
Boomstick: But then there's his trademark red helmet. Aside from covering his entire head, it's highly durable, and comes with a built-in radio, night vision and a breathalyzer.
Wiz: Upon removing the helmet, he can actually detonate the headpiece for a surprise explosion.
Boomstick: Sure hope he never accidentally presses that button when he's wearing it. That would be just the most embarrassing way to go out.
Wiz: One attribute Jason kept from his time as a Robin was his agility and acrobatics. He can traverse Gotham City and other locations from the rooftops with ease and can jump and climb the side of buildings quickly. While his resurfacing started off small, Red Hood managed to work his way up from Gotham City and beyond and cleaned up crime along the way. He's managed to flip Bane over, kicked the door off an airplane, and defeated the likes of the third Robin, Tim Drake, and Catwoman.
(Cue: Evening The Odds - Batman Arkham Knight)
Boomstick: One-on-one wins aside, he's defeated a large group of Talons, Man-Bat's trained by Shiva, took down Mr. Freeze and a Talon at once, immobilized the Teen Titans, and one time took down an entire SWAT team with nothing but a shower pole while in the buck nude.
Wiz: Even without his armor and gear, he is still quite formidable. He's evasive enough to dodge gunfire from multiple directions at once, is highly resistant to mind control and paralytic toxins, can break out of chains, and after taking a blow from Frankenstein that knocked him into a concrete wall, he got right back up ready to fight.
Boomstick: He's managed to found his own team of vigilantes... outlaws, if you will... and became a mentor to Scarlet. And besides being able to be stealthy when the time calls for it, he's also not too shabby at finding sneaky people, like knowing Cassandra Cain was sneaking behind him and being able to track down Batgirl in South America while she was covering her tracks.
Wiz: Red Hood has even stalemated the likes of Ravager in combat, stood up to Green Arrow and Ra's al Ghul in sword combat, can fight while blinded, and once defeated his former mentor Lady Shiva in one blow...
Boomstick: With a move she taught him herself. "Hey, I'm gonna teach you this cool move that you can use to defeat me. Great plan."
Wiz: Jason is considered the best student of the All-Caste and his skills have earned the respect of Talia, who has considered Jason as a potential head for the League of Assassins. In spite of this, he's still a mortal man and even with all his training, he still has yet to prove himself as Batman's equal.
Boomstick: His helmet may be tough, but weapons with special metals like the knives used by the Talons can pierce it. Plus, it's arguable whether or not his resurrection may have made him mentally unstable, leading to his more lethal methods in the first place.
Wiz: The jury's still out on that matter, but he has had moments of rage in the past and he's sometimes needed the help of Batman and colleagues to survive, including the time he and Scarlet were nearly killed by the assassin Flamingo.
Boomstick: Even with all that, while criminals dread facing anyone from the Bat Family, the Red Hood is the one member they hope they never cross.
Tyler Bramford: Then you know who's got my back. You know who I answer to.
Chico: Sure. The Red Hood. So... at the expense of your very wide butt...
Chico lights a molotov cocktail.
Chico: ...we're sending your boss a message.
Just as Chico is about to throw the molotov cocktail at Tyler, the bottle is shot, lighting Chico on fire as his partner watches in terror.
Red Hood: Okay.
Chico's partner looks over at Red Hood, who leaps onto the top of a car.
Red Hood: What's the message?
DEATH BATTLE![]
(Cue: Crackhouse - Punisher)
Among the slums and suburbs of a city come nightfall stood a tall apartment building that had long been abandoned. A row of power lines ran close to the structure: perhaps too close, hence the place being left in the first place. Cars and large trucks surrounded it as criminals ranging from the lowest class of thug to seasoned mob enforcers began to exit their vehicles. They knew no one, not even the cops, would dare to step into their territory and carried on with their operation unperturbed.
Some began carrying boxes while others stood guard with assault weapons in hand. Two began their trek through the front door and slowly up the many stairs to their destination.
Thug: So this is the place the boss was telling us about?
Thug 2: Yeah. Cost him next to nothing to take. It's all ours now.
With a row of impatient associates behind them, they hurried up the steps until they finally reached the top floor. There, they saw the door to their room unopened and their boss, surrounded by bodyguards and fashioned in the most expensive suit money could buy, lounging comfortably on a couch watching television.
Boss: Y'see, boys? What'd I tell ya?
He sat up, ecstatic at the merchandise that the men had brought: military-grade firearms. The two thugs who had just made the entire trip up to deliver weapons looked around and saw many crates like the one before them also filled with the same.
Thug 1: Wait, you already had all these?
Thug 2: You stockpiling them for something?
Boss: Why, yes. These up here'll be more than enough to fend off just about anyone who dares to cross us.
Outside, thugs grumbled to themselves as they lifted the increasingly heavy boxes of who-knows-what. One of them returned from inside to grab another as he saw one of his men enter one of the large trucks.
Boxes clattered inside.
Thug 3: You clumsy moron! Careful with those!
He ran up to the truck, all the more ready to further scold his fellow thug for dropping them...
...when he saw that thug dead with blood spewing from his head. Upon seeing a man in black with a white skull on his chest pointing a silenced pistol straight at him, he froze, unable to move, cry out for backup or even beg for his life.
The muffled shot went completely unnoticed by the rest of the crew, who carried on with their assignments.
On the other side of the apartment, a few armed guards stood nearby, trying to pass the time however they could to keep from dozing off from boredom. One texting on his phone, the other looking at his watch.
CLANG!
They both immediately dropped what they were doing and pointed their guns toward the truck where the noise originated from. They then realized that they didn't see anyone else nearby: perhaps the rest already finished moving everything. Still, they went to check the source of the noise anyway, figuring it was just some dumb kid or a moron with a death wish barging into their turf. They searched across the truck, each covering the other's back: they knew that strength in numbers was smarter than splitting up.
Upon reaching the passenger side, they saw a couple dead bodies from silenced shots.
Thug 4: Call the boss, now!
Thug 5: On it!
One reached for his phone and quickly got the dial tone as the other looked around, making sure they weren't being watched. As he did this, he saw more dead behind the other trucks nearby: whoever was doing this concealed the bodies from the two of them perfectly.
Boss: This city is ours!
Whatever rousing speech he had given to his men left them raising their weapons toward the ceiling, ready to wreck havoc on those who opposed their gang. The comradery went quiet as they heard the boss' phone ringing. He answered.
Boss: What is it?
The thug on the phone tried to keep his cool, but like his associate, he couldn't keep his composition in the face of what had transpired.
Boss: Hello?
Thug 5: We've...!
The call was ended by a bullet, which sent the phone to the ground nearly tore in two.
The boss didn't think a thing of it.
Boss: Huh. Wrong number.
The two looked forward, then behind them, then to their sides, their fingers clenched to their triggers. The two then looked over at the power line near the truck and decided to look up.
By the time they did, it was already too late: the last thing they'd ever see was a man in a red mask descending downward rapidly with two pistols pointed right at them.
Thug 1: Say, where's the rest of the guys?
Thug 2: They should've gotten the rest of the guns up here by now.
A black pair of gloves opened up an electrical box on the side of the complex. Upon eyeing the right wire, a knife severed it.
Boss: Now I know we're a little on edge, but let's all just...
The lights went out.
(Cue: The Chop Shop - Punisher)
Thug 1: Shit!
Thug 2: I can't see!
Boss: Don't just stand there pissin' yerselves! Turn on those lanterns!
The men reached around the room, various small items falling to the ground as they began to hear footsteps. Slowly, they began to get slightly louder and louder as the men could practically hear themselves sweating at this point.
Thug 1: Wait, I think I've got one!
Thug 2: Me too!
Boss: Well hurry up an' turn 'em on already!
The lanterns provided sufficient light to illuminate the room...
...enough to see only a flash of Frank Castle, the Punisher, having closed the door behind him, wielding an M60 in his hands, and firing into the room.
The boss scurried behind the couch as those closest to the entrance were mowed down before him. The rest ran for cover, some tripping over themselves in sheer fear, as Frank began the process of cleaning out the room. Some ran for the bathroom nearby, one thug desperately trying to pull the door open as it was locked. He finally lost patience and slammed his rifle against the door knob, breaking it off, then forced the door open. He looked inside for a window, but glanced at the corner of his eye one man dead on the toilet, a bullet in his head. He then looked over at a long-rotted shower curtain and tore it away...
...revealing both the window and Jason Todd, the Red Hood, in a jacket with black armor underneath, a red helmet atop his head, pointing both handguns at the thug.
The man fell dead out of the bathroom as the other thugs took notice, backing into each other in shock. They then fired at the wall, thinking to shoot whoever killed their comrade before they could exit. Jason rolled across the ground, firing his two pistols rapidly and mowing down the thugs before they could return fire. One thug, a crowbar in hand, charged at the Red Hood with all fury as the masked man simply span his handguns in place. Upon his handguns stopping a two-handed swing of the crowbar, Jason knocked the man's weapon back, then fired four times at once, leaving the man basically dead on his feet. He saw more thugs running towards him and then booted the dead man into them. As they tried to get out of the way or push their deceased comrade to the side, the Red Hood fired rapidly, cutting them down before they could succeed with either plan.
The boss stood in disbelief, seeing his entire crew dead all around him and Frank Castle completely untouched. Not wanting to incur the tortures and mutilations the Punisher was infamous for dishing out to survivors of his war on crime, he made a break for it, hobbling over the bodies on the floor. He clung to the hope that there was a chance he could escape, that even now with the bane of crime itself aiming for him that he would miraculously avoid being shot.
Just as he was ready to turn, he turned and only saw a flash of the Red Hood, his pistol staring back at him.
BANG!
(music end)
Frank fired just a single bullet to kill him, having all the time in the world to aim at the gang's boss. Red Hood had fired his pistol at the same time and also scored a direct headshot. The impact of their bullets made it difficult to tell that there had even been two shots made: the two stood, admiring their work, then proceeded to move forward.
(Cue: Kill 'Em All - Anarchy Reigns)
!
The Punisher spotted a man in a red helmet with what appeared to be a red bat symbol on his chest, barely tucked away by the jacket this masked man wore. Red Hood got a look at the man in black body armor, an intimidating skull adorned on his vest. Was this red hooded man an associate of the gang who happened to be at the scene? Was this man with the skull an enforcer that came for a payment?
Neither knew what to think of the other and neither was about to take the risk of lowering their guard a second too long so the other could shoot them down as cold-blooded as they had killed the gang before them. In what was a split-second decision for them, the Punisher and Red Hood both turned their weapons on each other.
The two took the gesture from the other as a clear sign that they were right in their deductions and that they both had just one more member to take out before the gang would be extinct. No mercy would be given here.
(0:15)
FIGHT!
Red Hood managed to win the quick draw, rapidly firing his handguns. During this, Punisher ducked and fired off his rifle, intending to mow down the thug where he stood. Seeing the tactic in mid-fire, Red Hood flipped to the side, still firing, and as the Punisher rolled and continued firing towards him, he flipped once more behind the wall. Frank fired across the wall, but from Jason's perspective, he couldn't hope to find him.
Frustrated for only a split-second, Frank decided to remove the immediate obstacle. He cocked the grenade launcher attachment on the rifle, then fired it towards the Red Hood. By the time Jason had heard the sound, he could back away a few steps before an explosion pierced through the wall. He was slammed into the bathroom doorway, leaving two arm-shaped tears, as the Punisher walked through the hole he had created.
Red Hood: Ow.
Frank placed another grenade into the slot and cocked it once more to exterminate the vermin in the bathroom. Red Hood spotted the rifle and grenade launcher from the corner of his eye and fired two shots. One struck the rifle first, knocking it upward at the exact moment Frank fired, sending the grenade into the ceiling. The second, not long afterward, knocked the rifle out of his hands completely. He was completely exposed as Jason fired...
...only to hear the irritating sound of his dual handguns being empty. In that moment, he realized he should've saved more bullets instead of wasting the majority on the goons from earlier. Frank saw the frustration and bit the pin off of a grenade. He let it cook in his hand, ensuring a far shorter time for the Red Hood to avoid it once it was finished. Jason knew he had no time and the moment Frank threw the grenade, he tore through the bathroom wall himself, throwing two clips of ammunition into the air while doing so. The moment the grenade so much as touched the bathroom floor, pieces of the room went flying behind the Red Hood, who rolled across the ground to avoid most of the shrapnel.
He saw Punisher armed with two Uzis aimed downwards toward him and quickly changed his momentum, moving to the side as the fire neared his shoulder. He quickly stood up, swinging both his handguns to strike both Uzis, sending their fire off-course from him. He knew this man with a skull was about to course-correct his fire, so he leaped back, seeing his two clips ever closer. He caught them with his handguns, landed, and the two fired dead-center at each other with both their weapons.
Some of their bullets struck each other. Others barely flew past them. Before either could hit their marks, two of Red Hood's struck both Uzi's nozzles, keeping them from firing. Red Hood charged in to capitalize this, swinging one handgun while firing the other, only to see Punisher had blocked the first blow with one Uzi and moved to avoid the shot. He clashed with his other handgun and Frank stopped this with his other Uzi, then proceeded to push forward as the Red Hood pushed back.
Red Hood: So who are you supposed to be? Their bodyguard?
Red Hood turned the two around.
Red Hood: A little late to protect them, don't you thi...?
Frank headbutt Jason mid-sentence, then swung both Uzis from below at his jaw. Red Hood was knocked off his feet, his head leaving a hole in the upper wall the shape of his helmet before touching the ground, standing dazed in place. Frank saw his rifle on the floor and used his boot to flip it upward, ready to catch it in his hands, one of which help another grenade.
Punisher: And you're just another hood off the streets.
He caught the firearm, loaded it with haste, and fired another grenade. Red Hood ducked, the grenade an inch from touching his helmet, and upon seeing the Punisher aiming his rifle downward to cut him down, he threw shurikens from his hands. Frank covered his face with his arms and rifle as they pierced his upper arms and part of his chest.
Red Hood charged at him once more, firing and swinging, but to his surprise, the shurikens didn't seem slow Frank down at all.
Punisher: So... the Hand put you up to this?
If anything, now his counter blocks managed to pierce Jason's arms as a result of the shurikens he had thrown himself.
Red Hood: Damnit! You've gotta be kidding me.
Frank took advantage of Jason's discomfort with two swings of his rifle to the Red Hood's head before firing. Jason recovered quickly and leapt over and grabbed onto Frank by the head, then flipped him over onto his chest, leaving cracks in the floor. He ran in to kick Frank in the head when the Punisher caught his foot with one hand.
Red Hood: You've been taking your vitamins.
The Punisher got up and pulled, sending the Red Hood off his feet, then slammed him into the untouched wall. The first swing left a small head-shaped hole while the second was torso-sized, followed by a third, more like a throw, leaving one Jason-sized. The Red Hood lied on his back, appearing slow to get up as Frank stomped on his chest, his rifle nizzle touching his mask.
A single bullet fired, striking the helmet, but aside from a grunt on Red Hood's part, it accomplished nothing else towards the intent of fatality. Punisher kept the trigger pulled for more shots, but that was the last in his rifle. During this, Red Hood took hold of his grapnel gun, launched it at the ceiling towards the wall, and held on as it sent him and the Punisher forward. Frank slammed into the ceiling head-first, knocking a ceiling fan off while doing so, as the Red Hood leapt off the ground, swung backward, then lunged forward for a slam. He then saw Frank catching his arm.
Red Hood: Aww, for crying out lou...
He slammed Jason into the ceiling by his arm, then slammed him to the ground. He stomped on Red Hood's head, this time causing a more pained grunt from Jason, whose helmeted face left an imprint in the floor. Frank went for another stomp when he saw something on his foot: a sticky explosive.
Red Hood: Think fast, Crossbones!
He got onto his hand and lifted himself off the ground, booting Frank forward with a kick from both legs. The impact slammed the Punisher straight through the door, leaving splinters in his back, then into the railing towards the stairway. Instead of tending to his back, he quickly tore the sticky device free from his boot and prepared to throw it.
BOOM!
(music end)
Red Hood saw the Punisher's futile attempts to get away from the sticky bomb and the explosion that followed. Still, it couldn't hurt to be prepared in the unlikely event that his adversary survived the event. He reloaded both handguns once more, then walked towards the stairway, seeing no trace of his adversary. He looked down the stairs, seeing no sign of him having tumbled down the steps. The next logical thought was to look over the railing, in case he was knocked over it to his death. He looked...
...and saw the Punisher, holding onto a knife that was embedded into the floor, and aiming with a Remington pistol in the other hand.
(Cue: Play For Keeps - Anarchy Reigns)
A single shot fired, catching Red Hood off-guard to the point where he couldn't dodge it in time...
...and penetrating through the side of the helmet. He roared out, feeling the bullet cut his cheek.
Red Hood: Crap! The hell...!?
Punisher: Adamantium-tipped.
The Punisher got back up, firing more rounds as the Red Hood made certain to definitely dodge these, as they could even pierce his helmet.
Frank charged forward, firing his Remington as the Red Hood moved to the side while firing his hanguns. He saw two of his shots made contact, striking his chestplate, only to see Punisher walk through what little pain he had felt. He fired his pistols once more, only for Frank to knock one of them away with a mighty swing of his Remington and the other by tearing it away with his own hand. He threw Jason into the railing, the impact sending half of it tearing off the floor as the Red Hood held on for dear life.
As Frank went for a clear shot using both his Remington and one of the pistols he tore from his masked opponent, Jason threw a flash grenade into the air. In that moment, he used his grapnel gun to aim into the ceiling, and rappelled upward. The Punisher saw the Red Hood coming for him and fired with both handguns as Jason swerved to his sides to avoid them. Just as his aim became truer, the Punisher was booted in the face with both feet, knocking him towards the room. Instead of falling over, he managed to stop his momentum and charged forward once more.
Red Hood: What's this guy made of?
The only pistol of his not in the Punisher's possession was knocked down the stairs, and he knew Frank wasn't about to give him the time to retrieve it. Instead, he turned toward the railing and grabbed hold of a piece barely attached to the rest. He tore it off, ducking under a few shots, then swung the bar into the Punisher's jaw. Jason then swung it at the Punisher's wrist, releasing his own gun, then towards the Remington pistol. As he did this, Frank fired a round right through the bar, cutting it in half. Just as the next shot was aimed towards Jason's head, the Red Hood jammed the newly-sharpened bar into the Punisher's right armpit. Frank's aim was off, far lower towards Jason's stomach, but the shot still went off, striking the Red Hood's side. Not wanting to succumb to pain just yet, Jason booted Frank back into the room.
The Punisher tore out the bar, barely grunting while doing so, then saw a shotgun right within his reach. The Red Hood charged in firing as Frank fired off a burst. Jason rolled, leapt upward to avoid another shot, and fired rapidly as the Punisher rolled below him, aiming his shotgun right at his feet. The Red Hood hopped upward, avoiding the shot, then took both aim. Two quick shots from Jason went into both shotgun's barrels, and Frank fired, realizing this too late. The misfire knocked him back, scarring his hand.
Jason charged for him as the Punisher lifted and threw one of the dead thugs right at him.
Red Hood: Sheesh, no respect for the dead.
Just then, he was floored by a swing to the head from a heavy object: a rocket launcher.
Punisher: Everything I do is for the dead. So punks like you never harm another innocent family.
Red Hood: What, you think you're the only one whose lost someone they cared about to criminals? I didn't become the scum I was fighting!
Frank aimed the rocket launcher right at the Red Hood's head, the RPG inside clearly visible.
Red Hood: Awful close. Afraid you'll miss?
Punisher: You're done.
Was Frank really about to risk killing himself to take down his opponent. Jason raised both his hands out. Was this him gesturing the Punisher to stop?
Two red lasers emerged from his wrists, cutting right through the launcher. He took careful aim not to touch the rocket, and the Punisher heard the trigger click with no effect. He swung what was left of it downward towards Jason, who rolled before getting up and kicking it, sending that half out of a window.
Frank lifted Jason up by his throat, trying as hard as he could to choke the life out of him, but his opponent didn't even bother to try pulling his arms back. Red Hood clapped his hands into Frank's ears, and as he was released, chopped at both Frank's shoulders. He then grabbed hold of Frank's head before kneeing it.
The Punisher still stood, his nose bloodied, and simply wiped it with his wrist.
Punisher: That all you have, Junior?
The Red Hood charged right for him after this remark just as Frank had planned. He threw a punch as he saw Jason slide across the ground on his knees behind him. Just as he began to turn around, the Red Hood tripped one of his legs, struck his jaw, then gut-punched him. The Punisher went on a punching frenzy, watching Jason side-step and duck his hooks and jabs, then went for a few powerful kicks. These two went avoided by the Red Hood, who then caught one of them.
Red Hood: Not bad, but this is not...
Frank went to punch him during his remark, but Jason caught his fist with one hand.
Red Hood: A dance!
Jason's other hand struck that arm's elbow before throwing him to the ground. Frank span on the ground, using his legs to keep the Red Hood at bay before getting up on the immediate defensive. The Red Hood swung away and his immediate strikes were blocked, but Punisher soon felt blows to his sides, then his cheek. He then swerved for a kick when the Punisher ducked it, then shoulder-charged him into a wall.
Frank punched at his stomach three times before pulling him backward. Just as the Red Hood began to recover, the Punisher tore out a piece of wood from the wall and swung it into Jason's back. He fell to the ground, seeing the Punisher running straight at him, and turned around to catch the kick. He did and punched at the Punisher's face thrice before a two-handed uppercut from Frank sent Jason flying across the room.
He looked across the ground and saw the RPG only a short distance from him. He then looked up and saw Frank, using his own pistol against him, aimed dead-center on it. Seeing an explosive that close to him gave him some rather unpleasant deja-vu. He got up as quickly as he could...
Red Hood: Well fu...
The Punisher didn't hesitate and fired the round straight at the RPG.
BOOM!
(music end)
The explosion was huge, leaving a gaping hole in the ground and leaving the wall and ceiling nearby smoldering.
CLUNK!
He caught a glimpse of the Red Hood's helmet as it bounced across the floor before coming to a halt before stopping by his feet. Guess it was all that was left of him.
(Cue: Charming Pistol - Goldeneye 007)
Suddenly, its eyes glowed white and the Punisher knew it wasn't just for simple effect. He turned and ran, only for the helmet's explosion to send him flying forward.
He was slow to get up and instead looked behind him. He saw Jason jumping out of the hole, his face revealed with messy black hair, a black eye mask to conceal his identity, and a cut on his cheek courtesy of the adamantium-tipped bullet from earlier. He tore off his brown jacket, making his black suit and red bat symbol all the more visible.
Jason looked over at the Punisher, whose back's scars were visible even with his body armor.
Red Hood: Looks like you've seen better days, White Skull.
The Punisher slowly, but surely got right back up, the pain only slightly hindering him.
Red Hood: Careful now. You might just keel over.
Jason took out his knife.
Punisher: Not on my life...
Red Hood ran towards Frank with his knife ready to cut him down...
...only to see two knives blocking it.
Punisher: Outlaw.
Jason broke off the knife struggle as Frank charged at him, his two knives swinging fast and keeping him at bay. He slid across the ground, then quickly got to his feet to avoid a downward stab from both knives. Red Hood turned his body quickly and swung his knife at Frank's side. Frank didn't even register this and aimed both knives at Jason's head, who barely blocked them in time. During this, the Punisher repeatedly kneed him in the chest, aiming to make Jason break his guard enough to stab him. Instead, Jason ducked, stabbing through Frank's leg, before jumping backward to avoid another two-bladed swing.
The two looked over at each other, tiring of the drawn-out skirmish, and both ran forward. Frank prepared to swing one blade when he saw Jason leap right over him aiming with his knife. He then swung his other knife upward, the two stopping each other's intended strike. Jason landed, slashing at the Punisher's chest, then eyeing one of the blades coming right for him. He swung his knife with both hands, managing to knock the opposing weapon out of Frank's hand and into the ceiling. He slashed at Frank's side once more, seeing him fall onto his knee, as he prepared for a final stab. He forced his knife downward toward the Punisher's head...
...then his eyes went big as he saw Frank stop the knife with his bare hand. Despite it going right through his hand and the blood dripping from it, the Punisher wasn't phased.
Red Hood: Son of a b...!
He realized he didn't know where Frank's other hand was. He let go of his knife and saw the other blade swing in front of his face. Damn near killed him that time: it left a cut from the left of his forehead across his nose. Blood dripped over Jason's left eye: he could barely see through it.
Frank tore Jason's knife out of his hand, then gripped it in his own. He charged at the Red Hood, both hands armed once more as Jason was forced to avoid the many slashes. After landing a lucky kick, the Red Hood took aim with his taser and fired. The Punisher was immobilized, but wouldn't allow himself to fall onto his knees. Jason saw that Frank was still gripping the knives in his hands and were not intending to drop them. Instead, the Punisher managed as much of a grin as he could despite the voltage...
...as he threw both knives at once. One struck Jason's taser, the other went straight for his head. He moved to the side only to see that it still struck a target: his right shoulder. The Punisher retrieved the knife from the ceiling as the Red Hood tore the thrown knife out of his shoulder, then looked over at one of his handguns near the broken window. Frank saw this too and ran towards Red Hood with all haste, so quickly even Jason was astonished by this. He threw the knife from his left hand, which Frank knocked away with his own blade, and saw the Red Hood taking aim with the gun in his right hand.
Time seemed to slow as the shots fired toward the Punisher, who moved to the left to avoid them. The Red Hood adjusted his aim as Frank covered the distance, his head now in range. As he did this, the Punisher's knife neared him. He fired...
(music end)
BANG!
SWISH!
Frank felt his right ear being shot off of his head. He could walk off pain, but even this was a bit much to bear. His teeth grinded and his eyes shot wide-open.
Jason couldn't feel his right hand's fingers for a moment, then saw his middle, ring, and pinky fingers falling to the ground. The Red Hood fell to his knees, crying out and gripping his right hand. He fired off three rounds unintentionally into the wall due to the sheer pain, but still gripped the handgun.
(Cue: Scum, Criminals and Worse - Batman Arkham Knight)
Frank swung the knife downward, which Jason rolled to avoid. The sheer strength of that knife left a mark in the wall like a knife through butter. Jason aimed as quickly as he could, getting a shot on the Punisher's shoulder, but that didn't stop him at all. He went for another shot, right at Frank's face...
Empty.
Red Hood: Oh goddamnit!
The Punisher's knife stabbed into the gun, yanked it from the Red Hood's grip, and tossed it away as Jason's left hand reached for a gas grenade. Frank saw this and his left hand tore it away from him. His right returned with the blade as Jason ducked, his forehead receiving another cut and a few hairs being cut. The Red Hood punched the Punisher straight in the groin, then grabbed at the Punisher's knife.
The Punisher swung his other hand right at Jason's side, then slammed him into the wall. He slowly pushed forward with his knife as the Red Hood did everything he could to push it downward and away from his head. While successful, all that accomplished was allowing Frank to stab him in the stomach.
Punisher: How's that feel, Hood?
Frank's left hand kept Jason in place by his right arm as the right kept stabbing and stabbing despite Jason's grip.
The Red Hood's face twisted in pain with each piercing blow and blood slowly dripped from his lips. His left hand finally let go and fell to his sides. His right arm did the same. He fell to his knees.
The Punisher quickly lifted his knife and aimed right for the Red Hood's throat.
Jason's feet pushed off the wall as he slid right behind the Punisher between his legs. He turned around with all haste and before the Punisher could turn around, he lied on his back and kicked the backs of Frank's knees. The Punisher shouted out, falling onto his knees, as Jason grabbed hold of the back of his head with his left hand. Frank prepared to stab Jason's hand, but before he could, the Punisher saw himself being slammed eye-first into the glass of the broken window.
Large pieces of glass pierced through both of Frank's eyes as the Red Hood knocked the knife from the Punisher's hands before swinging it at his throat. He gripped his grapnel gun with his right hand's remaining fingers as he fired it through the spewing opening in Frank's neck. He ran around the Punisher, who still swung his arms at him even now, and wrapped the cord around the Punisher thrice. He booted Frank out the window, then leapt after him as the two fell towards the power lines below.
Frank landed right on top of the post on his back and felt the high voltage coursing through him. Jason fell past him, then swung around the post, making a knot, then wrapping the cord around the entire structure before finally stopping against it with his legs. He clicked a switch on the grapnel gun, and then with a press of the trigger, the wire began retracting.
(1:17)
The Punisher was dragged off the top of the power line, but was being pulled back, his neck pinned in place against the pole. Jason pulled as hard as he could with everything he had.
(music end)
He could hear what could only be described as a crack, snap, squish, and splatter combined as he finally let go of his grapnel gun and fell to the ground, seeing blood pouring from the pole.
Red Hood: Oh fu *coughs blood* ck me, my stomach feels like jelly.
He gripped his stomach with both hands as he saw Frank's decapitated head land nearby him alongside his body.
K.O.!
The Red Hood was driving one of the large trucks, his lower body bandaged up and his fingers sewn back onto his hand in a cast while the Punisher's body lied motionless with the white skull on the chest having turned red from blood.
Conclusion[]
(Cue: Contingency - Batman Arkham Knight)
Boomstick: Hot damn! Jason gets an A for creativity on that kill!
Wiz: Punisher and Red Hood were masters of their craft and a near-perfect match for each other.
Boomstick: Both were surprisingly close in many areas, including strength. The Punisher could lift up people with one hand and Red Hood could throw people with one hand. Frank can lift up to 700 lbs at the most and while Jason flipping over the 350 lb Bane by comparison may not seem as impressive, he's also done the same thing to the criminal Suzie Sue, who is 600 lbs. A hundred pound difference to be sure, but still closer than you'd think.
Wiz: Both have also had experience taking on and surviving, if not defeating opponents who on paper should have the complete advantage over them.
Boomstick: And both have been smart enough to get the drop on super teams, like Punisher taking down Wolvie, Spidey, and Daredevil, and like the Red Hood immobilizing the Teen Titans. But a lot of these victories were usually based on prep time and prior knowledge of their targets.
Wiz: Both have switched between little to no armor and being covered in it and with both having armor-piercing weapons on-hand, both could breeze through each other's protection.
Boomstick: And while you'd think both combatants could take advantage of their weakness, you'd have been surprised. Red Hood has had moments of rage, but he's disciplined himself to keep it under control, so Punisher couldn't just tick him off enough for a free shot. And Frank has been known for getting brutal with his opponents, but he's a soldier through and through and saves that for post-battle torture. That meant Jason couldn't hope to sway him into giving in to his sadistic side to buy more time.
Wiz: But now onto the major differences. Jason has been known for taking a lot of pain, but Frank had the greater pain tolerance, bordering on superhuman in some instances to the point of ignoring knives and even bullets.
Boomstick: And one would be wondering why he couldn't have just taken everything Jason had and eventually overpower and kill him. Well... here's why.
Wiz: The Red Hood had superior mobility thanks to both his acrobatics and his grapnel gun. He could avoid his gunfire and even grapple to higher ground if the Punisher began to become troublesome for him. Even with Frank's adamantium-tipped bullets being able to penetrate Red Hood's helmet, it's not likely Jason would've given him the chance to do so.
Boomstick: And Frank never really wears much in the way of headgear, so nothing was really stopping enough well-placed bullets to the head from killing him. Granted, the Punisher had the greater combat experience. Assuming he was at least 18 when he first joined the Marine Corps in the Vietnam War, paired up with Jason being 12 when he became Robin, that would mean Frank has around twice the experience Jason had.
Wiz: However, Jason once held his own against Ra's al Ghul in a sword duel, a man who has outlived him centuries over and who can challenge Batman, who has mastered every martial art known to man. This proves that Red Hood could hold his ground with opponents whose experience is several times his own, whereas Punisher tends to battle those with less or around his own.
Boomstick: And yeah, Frank survived run-ins with the nearly 200 year old Wolverine, but again, that was from having experience with the razor-clawed mutant, so he had a plan for what to do. Red Hood pretty much winged it with Ra's and still survived.
Wiz: Finally, Red Hood learned and mastered far more martial arts than Frank, and had equipment and gadgets of greater variety and versatility.
Boomstick: The Punisher had a useful assortment of fighting styles, but training from the likes of Batman and the All-Caste put Red Hood ahead. Plus, Jason isn't a stranger to fighting foes with military-grade firearms and gear while Frank rarely faces people with gadgets of Batman's caliber.
Wiz: In the end, it was the Red Hood's better agility, hand-to-hand, and tech that allowed him to permanently end the Punisher's career.
Boomstick: The Punisher had a good head on his shoulders, but then he choked.
Wiz: The winner is the Red Hood.
