This is the eleventh episode of the second season of Dandyclaw's Death Battle.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Throughout the world of fiction, there are many great archers with unparalleled skills. Katniss from the Hunger Games, Green Arrow from DC, and Hawkeye from Marvel are all great examples of this.
Boomstick: But none of those archers however will take part in this death battle as the archers entering the ring today are both a princess and queen of their respective kingdoms.
Wiz: Princess Merida, the Princess of Clan DunBroch.
Boomstick: And Susan Pevensie, the gentle High Queen of Narnia. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wizard: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE!
Princess Merida takes aim and fires into Death Battle[]
Wiz: Once upon a time, in the European country of Scotland, there was once a kingdom ruled by the noble Clan DunBroch. The Clan was led by mighty and respected King Fergus and his wife the wise and compassionate Queen Elinor. Together they had four children: The Troublesome Triplets Harris, Hubert and Hamish....
Boomstick: And their daughter, the coolest and bravest of all Disney Princesses, Princess Merida.
Wiz: Even from a young age, Merida had many characteristics that set her apart from your typical princess.
Boomstick: While most princess long for their knight in shining armor, Merida was the hero of her own tale. While some princesses spent their childhoods as ordinary citizens with no moms and dreaming of a life of cute dress and talking animals, Merida dreamed of becoming a great ruler on her own, just like her dad.
Wiz: Merida is a princess by birth and an adventurer by a spirit. She would spend her free days practicing her archery skills in the woods, riding her horse Angus, and exploring the world around her, taking on whatever risk came her way and surpassed them.
Boomstick: The four words that best describe this warrior princess are as followed and I quote: daring, rebellious, headstrong, and above all BRAVE.
Wiz: But as Merida grew older, her mother Elinor began grooming her into becoming a proper princess of royalty despite Merida's objection. These days would include numerous lessons on the Kingdoms history, sowing clothing, public speaking, and personal presentation of one’s self.
Boomstick: BORING, no wonder her relationship with her mom got strained over the years. But the one day she doesn’t have princess lessons, Merida would spend the day galloping through the forest with Angus, practice sword fighting lessons with her dad, shoots arrows at targets she set up in the forest, and just explores. She even climbed the cliff known Crone's Tooth all on her own and drank from the water in joy of her accomplishment.
Wiz: However, Merida’s life would suddenly take an unexpected turn when she learned that she was to be married off to cement her clan’s relationship to one of three of her father’s allied clans.
Boomstick: Pretty upset about having to give up her freedom, Merida refused to go along with this and blamed it all on her mom, unwilling to hear her out. I mean, can you blame her, none of those lord’s son look worthy of being called a Disney Prince, plus they all suck.
Wiz: After learning that there was to be competition among the firstborn sons of the allies to see who would win her hand in marriage, Merida declared that the contest would be an archery competition. Not only that, she declared that as the firstborn of her clan’s leader, she was also able to compete.
Boomstick: In a not very surprising turn of events, Merida easily beat her wannabe suitors, humiliating them, and enraging Queen Elinor. After a rather fiery confrontation between the two, resulting in Merida tearing apart her family’s tapestry and Elinor burning Merida’s bow in a fit of rage, Merida ran off into the wood in sadness, and coming across the house of a witch.
Wiz: Seeing a way to alter her fate, Merida struck a deal with the Witch for a spell that would prevent her mother from going through with the marriage plan.
Boomstick: But things didn’t work out the way she had planned and she accidental turned her mother into a bear. Talking about your growing pains, at least she’s covered in fur and not naked.
Wiz: Realizing her grave mistake, Merida and her mom set out on a quest to undo the spell, using the teachings from both her Father and Mother herself to guide her. She even discovered that the fallen prince from her mother’s stories was actually the demon bear Mor’du.
Boomstick: Looks like all those princess lessons came in handy after all.
Wiz: Well, to cut a long story short, Merida succeeded in breaking the spell, rescuing her mother, and declared her impendence for herself and keeping the peace between the clans. But let’s talk about Merida herself. Thanks to her mother’s teachings, she has educated herself in woodlore, learning about the nature and animals, and about the history of her clans past.
Boomstick: Merida has trained herself in to be a master archery ever since she was a small child. She has won numerous archery contests, and she has developed some extra skills.
Wiz: Most notably, she has trained herself as an expert in firing her bow while riding on a horse at full gallop; firing at targets in front of her and even behind her. She once shoot a swinging sword out of her father’s hand when he attempted to kill Elinor in bear form.
Boomstick: But she doesn’t rely on her bow all the time in battle, she is also very good in hand-to-hand combat. She was once retrained by a man with a spear, and she grabbed the spear and threw the man over her back with ease. Eat your heart our Romeo.
Wiz: And, she’s certainly no stranger to the sword. One time she used one to block an overhand blow from her father, and then she used the sword to flip him onto his back.
Boomstick: Like farther like daughter, I guess.
Wiz: And last, but certainly not least, she is very athletic and an expert rock-climber.
Boomstick: Which considering that she does it in an ankle-length skirt, that’s really saying something!
Wiz: Following the steps of her predecessors, Merida became Disney’s eleventh official member of the Disney Princess line-up, and the first to originate from a Pixar film.
Boomstick: Even after the movie came out, Merida appeared in many other Disney related shows and movies, like “Once Upon a Time” and “Ralph breaks the Internet”, prove once again just how badass she can be.
Wiz: But despite being able to do all this, Merida is not without her flaws. Merida is very stubborn, a bit hot tempered, and is not one for following traditions.
Boomstick: And despite her being the main protagonist, she wasn't the one who defeated, let alone, killed Mor'du. Instead, it was her mother who managed to kill the mighty bear, who would have killed Merida with ease if not for her intervention.
Wiz: Merida’s a formidable opponent, with a well-rounded suite of skills. So if you take this young woman for a simple damsel in distress, you do it at your own peril!
Boomstick: So, keeping walking all you Disney Princes, this is one princess who needs no big strong man to come to her rescue. She’ll take care of that herself.
Merida: I am Merida! Firstborn descendant of clan DunBroch, and I'll be shootin' for my OWN hand!
Susan Pevensie sounds the trumpet for Death Battle[]
Wiz: The year was 1940 in the city of London, England. There lived the Pevensies family with their four children: Sons Peter and Edmund, and Daughters Susan and Lucy. Together the family lived a normal and peaceful life.
Boomstick: That is until World War II began and the parents were forced to send all four of their children away to escape the German Blitz bombings over the city. Susan and her siblings were sent to stay in the country side with Professor Digory Kirke, and old friend of their parents.
Wiz: Even though they were living in a large wealthy mansion, Susan still felt a little unease about the place, with the numerous rules they needed to follow and the many secret rooms that hide within the mansion’s walls.
Boomstick: Not to mention, only after one day, Susan's sister Lucy and brother Edmund claimed that they had visited a strange land in the Professor’s Wardrobe, and Susan and her elder brother Peter began to fear that they might be going insane. Seriously, going insane, what to just “kids have an overactive imagination”.
Wiz: One day while the kids were outside play a quite game of baseball, they accidentally hit the ball through the one of the mansion’s windows.
Boomstick: BUSTED!! Wanting to avoid getting caught, Lucy led her siblings into the wardrobe to hide from the professor’s grumpy assistant, and reveal to them that she wasn’t crazy and that there really was a secret world within the wardrobe.
Wiz: This was the land of Narnia, a magical world filled with dwarfs, centaurs, minotaurs, fauns…
Boomstick: and let’s not forget Talking Animals. I where I’m taking my next vacation to. Anyway, after befriending a couple of talking beavers, the sibling found out that Narnia was not the happy fairy tale world they thought it was.
Wiz: The evil White Witch, Queen Jadis, had taken over the thrown from the original royal family of Narnia and planned to conquer the realm rule over it under iron grasp.
Boomstick: Talk about coldhearted, it also had been prophesied that they would aid the Narnians in defeating Jadis, save their world, become the next kings and queens of Narnia. No Pressure or anything, but they are kids after all.
Wiz: Although Susan wanted nothing to do with this, believe that this was all some weird dream she was having, she came to face reality when Edmund had mysterious vanished and had gone to betray them to the Witch, whom he thought was his friends.
Boomstick: Classic villain manipulation kid, didn’t anyone teach you about going off with strangers.
Wiz: Seeing no other option to save their brother, the Beavers and the three children set out to join the great king of Narnia, Aslan, hoping he and his Army could help them.
Boomstick: During their journey, the travelers met with none other than the big man himself, Father Christmas, aka Santa Claus.
Wiz: Aware of the prophecy, Father Christmas gave each of them royal gifts to aid them in the future battle ahead of them. Susan was given a bow and arrows, with which she was able to master shooting in virtually no time, along with a magical horn that would bring help to anyone who blew it, wherever they were.
Boomstick: Using her wit and new tools, Susan and her siblings managed to find Aslan, rescue Edmund, and soon join in the war against the Witch. After her defeat, Susan and her siblings became the new rulers of Narnia, with her becoming the High Queen of Narnia: Queen Susan the Gentle.
Wiz: Susan ruled her kingdom for decades, since time passes much slower in Narnia than in the real world. Even after she left Narnia to return to the real world as a kid again, she returned and fought again in the Narnian Revolution against the Telmarines.
Boomstick: And she got herself a charming prince boyfriend before she left again. Susan is wise and rational, and often prefers to use diplomacy and reason over conflict and war. But when that doesn’t work, she knows how to get her hands dirty and fight! She's fought in several wars and battles, where she usually leads the archers in long-rage combat. However, she's no slouch on the battlefield, and has no problem fighting close-up with a quick draw and fire, or by stabbing her opponents with her arrows.
Wiz: She's also athletic, and is extremely proficient in horseback riding and swimming, the latter of which she won several awards for in her Earthly schools. She's also clever and level-headed, and always tries to keep a clear mind and direct approach when in battle.
Boomstick: With her bow and arrows by her side, Susan has slain countless opponents with little to no effort, form human soldiers to mythical creatures. During the Battle of Aslan's How in the second movie, she is seen shooting down many Telmaraine soldiers as well as knocking out two of them by striking them with her bow.
Wiz: It was stated by actress Anna Popplewell, who portrayed Susan in both films, that her kill-count in the “Prince Caspian” was higher than that of several of her male co-stars.
Boomstick: Okay, I know it says in the book series that Susan is only twelve at the time she went to Narnia, but in the movies, she looks to be at least fourteen or fifteen.
Wiz: You know what they say, “the camera adds ten pounds”. But in you case I think it adds at least twenty pounds.
Boomstick: Are you calling me fat? Anyway, let’s talk about her primary weapon: Her Bow.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=AvmebrzeGI0&si=wSvOiPdbyy3Dp_j3
Wiz: Depicted as a short, recurve- style bow made from wood, with the arrows appearing to be made of the same wood as the bow and are fletched with red feathers, this was typically used by archer knights during the medieval time for hunting and warfare.
Boomstick: Susan practiced with this bow everyday while at Aslan's camp, most likely receiving training from the other more skilled archers. She later used it to dispatch the White Witch’s dwarf sidekick Ginarrbrik following the Battle of Beruna. Good riddance to that scrawny little twerp.
Wiz: However, her level-headed mind and logical view on everything is also one of her greatest flaws.
Boomstick: As tough as she is, she can be predictable, and groups of enemies can find ways to overwhelm her. And despite ruling Narnia for decades, she actually preferred to stay and focus on diplomacy when her siblings went off to fight in wars.
Wiz: On top of that, she isn't really much harder to kill than average person, though her unique skills are usually enough to keep her safe. Despite her flaws, Susan has proven time and time again that she is just as skilled as a warrior as well compassionate as person. Both these traits are what makes her such a wise and great ruler of Narnia.
Boomstick: Long live Queen Susan the Gentle.
Aslan: To the Radiant Southern Sun, I give you Queen Susan the Gentle
Pre-Fight:[]
Wiz: all right the combatants are set, lets end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fight: []
At the circle of stones, two different trials of Will O’ the Wisps lead in opposite directions of the forest. Princess Merida appears from the left side of the forest on her horse Angus, having followed one of the Wisps' trials to the stone circles.
Merida notices the other trial of Wisps and sees another person emerging from the fog on horseback from the right side of the forest. It turns out to be Susan Pevensie on her horse Philip, who was also investigating the strange glowing lights. When the wisps vanish and the two women notice each other, the dismount from their horses.
Merida: Who are and what are you doing in my kingdoms boards
Susan: I am Queen Susan the Gentle of Narnia, and I was on a quest investigating sudden appear of these wisps. Now I believe it is your turn to tell me who you are.
Merida: I am Merida! Firstborn descendant of clan DunBroch, and these grounds are a sacred area to my clan and under my protection. Unless you have business with my parents, King Fergus and Queen Elinor, I suggest that you get back on your horse and leave, your highness.
Susan: With all due respect, I came here on a quest, and I will not abandon my quest until it is completed.
Merida: (pulls out her bow and an arrow) If you do not leave willingly, then I will have to make you leave forcefully.
Susan: (arms herself with her bow and an arrow) You are welcome to try.
Both archers release their arrows at the same time. The arrows collided in midair forcing both of the women to quickly reload another arrow from their quiver. Susan reloads her bow the quickest as she released three arrows toward Merida, who leaps out of the way as arrow narrowly hit her. Merida quickly fires an arrow at Susan, who rolls and dodges as well. Susan takes a knee, and fires her arrow at Merida. Merida then ducks behind a stone hedge, but not before the arrow cuts her shoulder.
Seeing her wound is not fatal, Merida reloads an arrow from her quiver, but she turn to fire, she sees that Susan is gone. Unaware where her opponent is hiding, Merida slowly inches from behind the stone hedge to survey her surroundings. Unknown to Merida, Susan is hiding behind a few other stone hedges, slowly creeping her way towards the pillar Merida is hiding behind.
As Susan is getting closer to the hedge where Merida is hiding, she reads an arrow in her bow. She turns a corner, only to find that Merida is no longer there. However, Merida jumps out of the bushes with her sword and slashes at Susan, causing her to drop her arrow. The Narnia queen dodges the first swipe, but the second slash cuts her arm causing her to fall to the ground. Before Merida can finish the job, Susan uses her bow to whack Merida in the leg and stabs an arrow in her other leg, knocking her off balance. This also Susan to grab her bow and arrows to flee into the forest to bandage her wounds.
As Merida binds her wounded leg with her dress, she follows Susan to the forest. As Merida readies an arrow in her bow, she scan her surround, tracking any signs to wear Susan may have gone. Unnoticed to her, Susan waits for Merida behind a tree, reaching for another arrow, then leaps out from behind the tree and fires at her. As the arrow flies, Merida dodges to the side, but the arrow skims her cheek, leaving a bloody red cut. Merida jumps behind a large rock, and Susan rushes after her.
Susan: You wouldn't get away from me that easily.
Susan follows the blood trail until she see that the trail leads to another tree but doesn't appear again. Think that the princess is hiding behind the tree, Susan carefully crouches down and walks closer to tree with her bow armed and ready. When see leaps in front of the tall tree, she is shocked however to see that her opponent had mysteriously disappeared as Merida was nowhere in sight. Unnoticed by the Queen, the princess had climbed up the tree and was hiding above her.
Merida: Come on, just as little closer.
As she slowly walks around the tree scanning her surrounding for her target, Susan suddenly found herself tackled from above as Merida leaps down on her from the tree tops and landed on top of her. As the two roll across the ground, Susan quickly kicks Merida of her, but realizes during the struggle, she accidentally dropped her bow. Luckily, Merida also by mistake dropped her bow when she landed.
Susan: Shoot.
Merida: Looking for something lassie, lucky for me, I don't always need one.
Merida then pulls out her sword from its hilt and charges at Susan, who barely manages to avoid the swing of the sword. The second sword slash however passes through her armor and slightly touched her stomach causing the queen of Narnia to cry out in pain.
Merida: If you think that hurt, wait til you feel this.
As Merida prepare to land a third swing at her, Susan quickly grabs a fallen arrow from the ground and stabs her right in the arm, forcing Merida to drop the sword in pain. Susan quickly followed up the attack by stabbing the princess in the leg with another arrow. Luckily for Merida, it didn't cause any major damage, allowing her elbow Susan in the face and grab her bow and sword before running off back to the clearing. Susan picks herself up grabs her bow and chases after her. Susan continues running until she comes across the arrow she had used to hurt Merida laying next to a large rock and she creeps towards it with her bow and arrow ready. When Susan comes behind the rock, she sees that Merida is not there.
Susan: What on earth...?
Merida: (whistles)
Susan turns around, only to see Merida pulls out her bow and whack Susan over the head with it. Susan falls to the ground her arrows spill out of her quiver, forcing her to scramble to pick them up, allowing Merida to arm herself with another arrow and prepares to fire at Susan. Susan quickly grabs her bow and a single arrow and fires it before she grabs her remaining arrows and runs away. The arrow strikes Merida in the side, hitting her and causing her to fall back. She gasps and looks down at her wound, where the arrow is a through and through and the tip of the arrow is sticking out of the other side of her dress. She reaches down and pulls the arrow out, bleeding slightly. She picks her self up and races after Susan. When she comes back to the Stone Hedge, she sees Susan riding away on Philip.
Merida: Oh no you don't. Angus come.
Angus comes galloping towards Merida, who leaps onto the horses back and the two begins to chase after Susan and Philip. Seeing that they are being followed, Susan readies her bow and arrow and starts shooting at Merida. While dodging the arrows, Merida begins to return fire as well. As the horse continue to gallop down the hill, the archers continue to fire at each other. Merida then takes her aim with precision, and shoots an arrow at Philip's back leg, causing the horse to fall over and fling Susan off his back and loos some of her arrows. As Angus gets closer, Susan swiftly grabs a random arrow and fires it at Angus, making the horse topple over, but Merida is able to land on her feet.
Both of them prepare to fire five arrows at each other. They intensely stare at each other, looking at each other dead in the eye. They then both unleash their arrows at once. The arrows clash and Merida immediately shoots another one at Susan, who blocks it with her bow but is unable to block a couple more and hides behind some boulders. Merida starts walking over and starts chuckling while reloading her bow.
Merida: Alright, I'll admit it lassie, your more clever than I thought.
Susan (pulls out the remaining arrows) If you though that was impressive then you'll love this.
Susan jumps on top of the boulder and fires an arrow at Merida. Merida performs a duck and weave , avoiding Susan's arrow. Merida then retaliates by firing an arrow at Susan. Susan then fires an arrow that seemingly misses Merida, but she was really aiming at a dead tree, causing two broken branches to fall and roll towards Merida. Merida manages to dodge one of the rolling branches, but the second one rolls up a hill and slams into Merida's head, dazing her. Susan takes this opportunity by shooting an arrow at a distracted Merida. The Arrow hits Merida in her leg, injurying her greatly.
Susan: If you know what's best for you, You'll stay down
Merida: When I start a fight, I intend to finish it. So the answer is no.
Merida is forced to kneel down in pain. She attempts to pull out the arrow from her knee. While she was successful, it cause excessive bleeding to her knee, making her cut her dress with her sword to bandage the wound. She see's Susan running away and despite her pain, Merida nocked an arrow, aims it at the queen and fire. It hits Susan in the shoulder causing her to fall over and most of her arrows to fall out of her quiver. As Merida limps offer to check Susan's body, she gets to her feet and swings her bow at Merida. She blocks it with her sword, pushing her aside and swing her sword at her. Susan dodge the attack and notices a rock behind her. When Merida brings down her sword again, Susan dodges and cause Merida sword to get stuck in the stone. Susan then has Merida cornered and uses the opportunity to stab the princess with some arrows. Merida then kick her to the side, pulls two arrows out her quiver, and stabs them into Susan.
Susan is able to crawl back to her bow and grabs her remaining arrow on the ground and aims it at Merida. Merida pulls for another arrow from her quiver, only realize she has only one arrow left as well. She readies her bow with her last arrow and the two women stare each other down.
Susan: One arrow each?
Merida: I accept your challenge. On three? One...
Susan: Two...
Both: Three.
They fire their arrows at the same time, Susan's arrow splits through the other one and goes through Merida's head, killing her.
Susan: Ha! Victory for Queen Susan, the Gentle, master of archers.
Susan uses her bow as a crutch to limp off into the distance.
Results[]
Boomstick: Wow, I knew bullets were dangerous, but arrows are on a whole level of pain
Wiz: Both these ladies of royalty were skilled archers in their own right, but only one had the superior experience over the other.
Boomstick: Merida may have had the advantage when it come use of multiple weapons, not just a bow and arrow, and her experience as an archer her entire life made her seem like the likely winner of this. But you'd be wrong
Wiz: Let's not forget, during her time in Narnia, Susan ruled her kingdom for decades, and took archery classes when she returned to Earth. Thus making her the more skilled archer of the two
Boomstick: Also, Merida only used her archery skills in battles against humans or witches. Susan has slayed not only humans, but also other mystical creatures, making her more skilled at taking out larger game. I should look into getting myself a bow and arrow some day.
Wiz: Merida may have been a skilled archer and adventurer, she was simple outclassed by Susan's experiences and tactical battle skills
Boomstick: Something tells Susan got her "point" across that she was done "quivering" in fear.
Wiz: The Winner is Susan Pevensie
