Description[]
This fight is literally fire in a literal fire fight. Who will win this showdown between the fire fighter Maki Oze and the fire fist of the Whitebeard Pirates, Portgas D Ace. It's fire fighter vs. fire man in a battle of the genders and of fire. This fight will be explosive and will burn down the arena. Who will go down in ashes and who will burn down the competition?
Interlude[]
Nero: Man truly became man when he discovered fire, and since that day they began working to master the element. Today two legendary fire based anime characters will fight to the death.
Phoenix: Like Portgas D Ace the fire fist of the Whitebeard Pirates.
Gerona: And Maki Oze the fire soldier of Company 8.
Phoenix: I am Phoenix Wright and they are Nero and Gerona and together we analyze the fighters, weapons, skills, sources, experience, feats, abilities, weakness, and battlefield strategy to see who would win a Death Battle?
Portgas D Ace[]
G: Gol D. Roger the king of the pirates had it all. Wealth, gold, and women and when he died his treasure created a new era. The Golden Age Of Piracy
N: Roger had a son Portgas D Ace, but his Ace’s birth was as unusual as his parentage.
P: His mother held him for 8 months, holy crap! That is a very long time to withold a baby. It must have hurt a lot. TO the point that she died upon birthing Ace.
N: Ace grew up not feeling wanted and he always wondered if he deserved to live. But he didn't have much time to ponder the meaning of his birth. Soon he had an adopted family the son of nobles Sabo and spunky Monkey D. Luffy. They promised to be brothers and to live their lives the way they want. Well young Ace and Luffy soon faced loss, when Sabo supposedly died.
G: Holy cow, how dark were their childhoods? Then again Nami was enslaved by fish men creatures, Zoro lost his best friend, Sanji was abused by his family and lost his mother, and nearly everyone Nico Robin loved got slaughtered. So dark childhoods I guess are a staple of One Piece.
N: When Ace was 16, he set out to become a pirate on his own. When disaster struck.
P: Ace was stuck on a deserted island and ran into an aspiring adventurer a man in a mask known as the "Masked Deuce." Well Ace gave him that nickname. There he ate the Mera Mera no Mi, the flame flame fruit, a logia making his body fire and allowing Ace to manipulate fire. Ace and Masked Deuce used the fire to escape the island.
N:He formed a crew with Masked Deuce and a group of rogues to form a group known as The Spade Pirates, with Ace as the captain. They were a loyal group with a cat creature type thing. They explored the New World and Ace helped out the country of Wano.
G: One day the Spade Pirates had a run in with the Whitebeard Pirates and were utterly defeated. Ace tried time and time again to kill Whitebeard himself, only to fail time and time again. Upon learning from MArco and Thatch, that the crew were seen as family he finally joined and become the second division commander.
N: A bit too fast if you asked me. Well Portgas D Ace eventually faced loss again, when a member of the crew Blackbeard killed Thatch and skipped town. Ace chased after him and was also hunting his brother Luffy captain of the Strawhat Pirates. We first hear of him at Drum Kingdom, but he meets Luffy again at Alabasta.
P: Ace gives Luffy a note to find him again later and leaves Luffy to hunt down Blackbeard. Hilarity ensues as Ace dines and dashes, assaults an innocent doctor with an unfortunate name, and eventually found Blackbeard. Ace however lost to Blackbeard due to his shadow fruit and was sent to Impel Down.
N: Ace got rescued but was provoked into fighting Akainu. Ace than got killed by sacrificing his own life to save Luffy. And no I am not going to make a childish joke. So..
G: Despite not being around for too long, Ace become a beloved character during his short time in the spotlight. His childhood was further expanded post the time skip, and he was mentioned again in Wano. (cries quietly)
N: Ace's death is one of the most tragic and iconic deaths in all of anime. Now moving towards on how Ace kills his foes, he uses fire as he ate the Mera Mera no Mi or the fire fire fruit. This devil fruit is a Logia that allows him to become or control fire. The Hikan is Ace's signiature move where he shrouds his fist with fire and launches the column of fire, Higan is when Ace makes finger guns and shoots flaming "bullets", Shinka: Shiranui is where Ace launches 2 long fire lances at his foe's chest, the Hidaruma is the following move where he sends fireballs floating around his foes and slams it into them like Piccolo, the Enjomo is where Ace uses fire to prevent escape, Kagero is where he shoots a stream of flame, Kyokaen makes a defensive fire wall, Enkai is where ace shrouds his body with fire, Hibashira he makes a flaming pillar that goes either up or down, and Daienkai: Entei where he sends a massive fireball at his foes. He also has a knife and staff skills.
G: Ace is an impressive fighter capable of making his fireball half the size of a decent sized island while he was wounded and exhausted, he could fight Blackbeard for days at a time, clashed near evenly with Akainu but was defeated, countered Akainu, makes massive explosions and craters, reacted attacks from Aokiji and Blackbeard, destroyed large Baroque Works ships, destroyed houses, damaged Blackbeard, blocked explosions, normal attacks can't harm him, survived a hole through his torso for a bit of time, reportedly burnt citie sand destroyed battleships, defeated massive animals, beat young Luffy in fights, matched his strength arm wrestling, fought Jinbe for 5 days, and fought Smoker.
N: However, Ace does have weaknesses such as magma, water and seastone as well as having a temper of his own, and has limits when it comes to stamina. He also falls asleep at strange times.
P: But Ace is the second division commander of one of the stongest pirate crews ever. And was one of the greatest pirates ever.

Maki Oze[]
N: In Fire Force you get to meet numerous fire fighters, and one of the greatest firefighters is one known as Maki Oze a member of the Second Generation Fire Soldier of Tokyo's Special Fire Force Company 8. Wow...Special Forces in a fire fighting group.
P: Well they aren't just any fire fighters, they have to fight as well. Maki Oze began her journey as a private in the Japanese Army where she learned how to fight, and placed her militaristic roots. Throughout her life Maki acts as if she is still part of the army. Kind of like Brick from Total Drama Revenge of the Island.
G: Maki excelled there, as she worked and trained harder than what was expected of her kind of like Mumen Rider. Eventually she entered Fire Force becoming a Second Generation Fire Soldier, alongside her crew who became her very close friends.
N: So kind of like Band of Brothers turned fire fighters? Nice. Anyways Maki time and time again works with her crew and friends to save the day wether it is be stopping fires or fighting against the latest bad guy. But at the same time she discusses sensitive issues and discusses the life and the changes in it. Man is this the anime version of the hit Fox Show 911?
P: Kind of...I guess? Well Maki is more of a sniper, using her fire abilities for long range attacks but due to her military training she is rather skilled in hand to hand combat. So don't go underestimating Maki, as she will save the day with the rest of her crew...
G: Uhm Feenie, she won't have her crew during her duel against Portgas D Ace.
P: OOPS>
N: Well Maki is a gifted Second Generation Soldier with the ability to control fire from a distance and can somewhat extinguish and absorb fire to a limited extent to attack others. She has two spirits known as the Mera Mera and Psuru Psuru who she can utlizize in her attacks and strengthen her Iron Owl gauntlet weapons which can bash or block. Maki's moves are Pusu Pusu Comet which is a large fireball as well as Firestorm which is essentially a flaming tornado.
P: Maki is a very gifted opponent capable of holding her own and even defeating other second generation fire soldiers, redirecting other fire attacks, her Firestorm was able to cover a decent chunk of ground, the fireball was building size and was able to destroy it, is skilled in hand to hand combat, scales to town or city level at best, reacts to explosions, and took some explosions
G: However Maki is not perfect, her reflect or absorb has a limit and too much fire will not be able to do so, though she can alter the shape to limit the impact, has finite stamina, and is not used to long fights with foes at her own power level
N: But Maki is a skilled Fire Soldier, who will save the day

The Fight[]
Ace walks around an abandoned city, for once he has found himself in Zoro's predicament and is very lost at the moment. Suddenly he sees a woman who points a gauntlet covered fist at Ace.
"Freeze Portgas D Ace," Maki said with determination. Fire Force was allied with the Marines and she might have found her big break running into a big name pirate a bounty poster is clenched in her fist, "You're coming with me dead or alive."
"Great another bounty hunter," Ace groaned, "Not again, but not on my life lady. You're crazy to start a fire fight."
"That I will," Maki roared sending a stream of fire at the young pirate. FIGHT!!
Ace turns into fire instinctively and the stream harmlessly passes through him. He rolls his eyes and chuckles as Maki steps back startled.
"Bet you didn't expect that," Ace said with a chuckle.
"W-What you can turn into fire," Maki said startled, "I was never told of his abilities."
Ace does not take a break from combat and makes his fingers to the shape of a cross. Those fingers go aflame.
"Flame commandment Cross fire," Ace roared sending a cross shaped flame towards Maki like he did with Blackbeard.
Maki notices the move name and uses her ability to reshape the flames to do less damage and when it hits her it does little damage.
"I see you can reduce the impact," Ace said, "So this should be interesting. Neither of us can touch each other."
"Good observation," Maki said, "But you've never dealt with a foe like me.
"Ditto," Ace replied charging Maki.
Ace shrouds his fist with flame and slams into one of her iron owls. Maki combats with her own punch striking Ace in the nose by surprise. Ace leaps back wiping the blood from his nose.
"Nice," Ace said tipping his hat with a smile, "But that's the last time you'll touch me."
"I don't know about that," Maki said with a sly grin on her face, "FIRE STORM!!"
Maki had summoned a fire tornado which crashes through buildings and looms menacingly towards Ace. The fire man rolls his eyes and extends his hand and redirects it toward the summoner. Maki looks surprised and mutters an, "Aw crud," as she redirects it into the city destroying more buildings and cars before it dissepates.
"Like I said that won't work," Ace said with a smirk extending his hand.
"What is he doing," Maki asked in a fighting stance.
Behind Maki a ton of fire balls are surrounding her, an entire fleet.
"You should be aware of your surroundings," Ace chided before releasing the fire balls with a, "Flame Commandment Hidaruma."
The fire fly like balls crash into Maki and detonate, destroying a section of the city and creating a crater. Despite Maki's effort to weaken the blow, the city faced destruction and Maki is hurt. She pants as blood drips from her mouth and some open wounds.
"You don't look so good," Ace said, "How about we give up now?'
"Give up, never," Maki said with determination, "Not after the destruction you unleashed upon the city."
"Destruction," Ace said with feigned offense, "Your fire storm did the majority of the destruction."
Maki lunges at Ace attempting to side kick the fire user, however this time the Fire Fist was aware and morphed into fire allowing Maki to kick flames. Ace retaliates by shrouding his fist with fire and punching Maki. The fire fighter takes the blow and stumbles back. But it doesn't take Maki Oze long to recover and she rapidly punches at Ace. This time the Pirate chooses to dodge the punches rather then morph into fire. Maki prepares a powerful gauntlet smash.
"Flame commandment Kyokaen," Ace roared as a fire wall is summoned blocking the punch, "Flame commandment Hibashira."
Pillar fames fly up from the ground forcing Maki Oze to keep her distance. The fire fighter takes a deep breath and fires a few streams of fire at the Portgas D, who seems confused as he turns into fire to avoid the flare. He smiles, he has an end game in mind. Ace notes her tired state as a lack of stamina, all he has to do is outlast Maki. The fire fighter release more flame streams.
"Flame commandment Sun Flare," Ace said as fire extends from his palm neutralizing the other fire.
"Come on," Maki roared, "This is totally....."
Before Oze could finish her sentence Ace releases an onslaught of flame attacks, forcing her to dodge or keep on her toes.
"Flame commandment FIRE FIST," Ace roared turning his fist into fire and hurling a flaming column at Maki who works on redirecting the flare. Ace appears behind Maki and kicks her into the fire. The fire burns through the city and Maki stumbles around, badly hurt and burnt a little.
"Alright give it up now," Ace ordered, "You can barely stand! Don't you realize how futile this is?"
Maki roars and leaps toward Ace, Psuru appearing and releasing some of Ace's fire attack.
As Ace dodges the fire, he is hit by a punch. He stumbles back a little bruised.
"What the," Ace said a little surprised, "I see that fire thing can use some of my fire. How about this, Flame Commandment Fire Gun!'
Ace makes fire guns and rapidly fires at Maki, who uses her Iron Owls to block the fire and Psuru consumes some of the fire shots. Maki gets close to Ace and punches as hard as she can, Ace however grabs a staff and blocks the fist and swings the staff back whacking Maki.
"Nice one but you can't repeat what happened," Ace said as he surrounds the battlefield with fire as Maki is seen backing up.
"i was about to say that," Maki said as she appears to be more determined, the Iron Owl recording the fight, "Let's do it!!!! PSU PSU COMET!!!!!!"
Maki summons a giant nasty fire ball, which blazes through the city.
"ANYTHING YOU CAN DO I CAN DO BETTER," Ace roared, "Flame commandment Dai ENKAI: ENTEI!!!!!!"
Ace summons a fire ball half the size of the city to slam into Maki's fire ball putting his all into this fire attack. Maki pushes and strives to hold even as the two fire balls sturggle for dominance. From the sky two fire balls blazing are crashing into each other and burning the city.
"NO YOU CAN'T," Maki replies putting more into the fireball as it briefly has dominance.
"Is that so," Ace said appearing in front of Maki and slams his fist into her stomach to her surprise causing her to cough up blood and releasing a stream of fire knocking the fire fighter back. Maki loses concentration for a second as she is dazed but when she regains concentration, her eyes bulge.
"AW SHIT," Maki screamed as the fire ball crashes into her, "THIS CANNOT BE HAPPENING! IMPOSSIBLE!"
At first due to her abilities the fire just seems to sting, but then it hurts bad, her eyes and flesh melt as the fire fighter screams as the fire melts through her muscle and the fire fighter is left to a skeleton. Ace looks a little shocked but chuckles as he walks to the skeleton and knocks it over as it turns to ash.
"I told you, you shouldn't have messed with the Portgas D," Ace said tipping his hat, "Kinda sad that some kid was tougher."
Ace walks away from the burning city. KO!!
Conclusion[]
(Ace is seen at the dock on a boat to look for his brother, as the Fire Fighter crew appear shocked and sad at the death of a comrade. They clutch Ace's wanted poster)
N: Woah that was brutal! Play it again! (The death scene is played). While persistant Maki Oze stood little chance against Portgas D Ace. The question became quickly, rather then how Maki could win, to how long could she last against Ace?
P: Don't get me wrong Maki Oze is an impressive fighter who could certainly keep Ace on his toes especially with her negating and deflecting ability. But it quickly became a mild inconvenience to Ace's superior control of the element of fire. Maki did have a few advantages. For example she had more experience as an adult in fighting hand to hand, while adult Ace relied on his fruit. She also had a technological advantage with her Iron Owls as well as being smarter with more professional experience.
G: But even with that Maki couldn't win. Let's start with attack potential. Ace while wounded had his fire ball cover half an island and it did extensive damage to the island, and we place Ace around large mountain small island level. Maki at best with her fire attacks was around city level. Fire attacks of Ace's level were too powerful for Maki to just deflect or block.
N: Ace is also physically stronger and faster capable of holding his own with Jinbe a powerful martial artist, taking out giant beasts as a child with a staff, and capable of dodging blows against numerous Marines. Maki while powerful to hold her own with her colleagues couldn't fight the same fights as Ace and hold her own. Ace is also more used to fights to the death.
P: What really sealed the win for Ace was durability and stamina. Maki struggles with stamina and isn't good fighting for long periods against foes who are equally or stronger than her. Ace however, could fight for days like his duels with Jinbe and Blackbeard. And Ace is not invincible as his fruit can be bypassed at times, but Maki's powers were unlikely to be able to bypass his Logia.
N: Maki thought she could extinguish a fire man, but she got singed
G: Bad pun!

Trivia[]
-The soundtrack is called the Mera Mera no Commandment Force as it is a reference to one of the spirits with Maki and Ace ate the Mera Mera no Mi. Force is because Fire Force and commandment is due to Ace in the dub starting his attacks with "Flame Commandment". It would be Ace's hat with the smily faces being replaced with the two fire spirits
-Maki was originally supposed to be killed in a manner similar to how Mikasa died in Blake vs Mikasa, but the writer felt it wouldn't be original
-This is Portgas D. Ace's second appearance and victory. Also the second time a One Piece character won. As for Maki, this was the first Fire Force character to appear in Death Battle and Maki was the first to lose
