Pocahontas
I don't know what I can do,
Still I know I've got to try.
Eagle, help my feet to fly.
Mountain, help my heart be great.
Spirits of the Earth and sky,
Please don't let it be too late!

History[]

Pocahontas (1995)[]

Pocahontas is the 18-year-old daughter of the chief of the Powhatan tribe. Her mother had died some time ago, but not before passing on her free spirit and strong will to her. When the warrior, Kocoum, asked Pocahontas’s father for her hand in marriage, he readily agreed, but Pocahontas did not believe that that was the right path for her. So, she went to see Grandmother Willow, who consoled her to listen to the spirits that inhabit nature.

Later, she encountered a European explorer by the name of John Smith, and was surprised by how different they really are, but she tried to get him to understand the differences and learn from them. When the American natives began preparing for war against the invading Europeans, Pocahontas tried to arrange a peace between the two sides. However, when a Powhatan warrior was killed, and John Smith was to be executed for the murder, Pocahontas saved him, and Smith sailed back to England.

Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (1998)[]

Several years later, when tensions were rising again between the Powhatan and English settlers, Pocahontas accepted an invitation to go to England as a representative of her tribe. She was fascinated by England, but was horrified when she witnessed a bear-bating spectacle. When she called the English barbarians, King James became furious and ordered her execution. But, she is saved when John Smith and John Rolfe break her out of prison.

Instead of returning for North America, Pocahontas confronted King James and Queen Anne, and convince them that they are all wrong about her and the inhabitants of the Americas. Eventually, she returned home, with John Rolfe with whom she has fallen in love.
