History[]
Oghren of House Kondrat is a prominent member of the warrior caste of Orzammar. In his youth, Oghren already displayed impressive combat prowess, and soon participated on the Provings (a coloseum to settle disputes and hold tournaments) and won many victories against seasoned veterans, becoming one of best warriors of his generation.
After some time, Oghren's pursued a relationship with dwarven girl named Felsi, however, his House (clan) bethroded him to Branka, a female dwarf of a wealthy smith caste. Oghren agrees for the benefit of both their Houses. Branka who later invented a smokeless coal, becomes a living Paragon (dwarven elite) which put a strain on their relation. House Branka then absorbed the entire House Kondrat after.
With Branka's Paragon status, this puts a heavy strain on Oghren's and Branka's married life, and it soon crumbled. Oghren began drowing his problems away with ale and others. Branka's disdain for Oghren influenced the rest of his House, and Oghren was shunned by his own clan.
When Branka goes on an expedition to find Caridin's Anvil of the Void, she took all of their house (both hers and Oghren's) to search for the mystical anvil in the Deep Roads with the exception of Oghren, who she leaves behind and became a laughingstock. Oghren tracks down his old flame and reignite their relationship but due to an unfortunate mishap (greatly on Oghren's part) he fails, and Felsi left for the surface. Oghren began drinking heavily even more.
At some point, Oghren challenge a noble's son for badmouthing his wife into a duel at the provings. While under the influence of alcohol, Oghren delibirately killed his opponent in a first-blood match which resulted of having his rank and prestige stripped away from him. Prohibiting him from carrying arms in Orzammar, which is the greatest shame of a warrior, thus making his situation even worse than it already is.
With no news of Branka's expedition, the Assembly decided Branka and her House, lost or either overwhelmed and killed by the Darkspawn or creatures of the Deep Roads. However, Oghren continues to convince (while often drunk) the Assenmbly to lead a search party for his wife, which they dismiss everytime.
After some time, the Grey Warden and company reach Orzammar in their cause to gather an army to combat the Blight at the surface. The Grey Wardens were tasked by their appointed chosen king of Orzammar on a mission which involves investigating Branka and her party's whereabouts in the Deep Roads. When Oghren heard the news, he confronts the Warden's company and joined them on their travels to the Deep Roads.
Eventually, after finding Branka and witnessing her fate (depending on the Grey Warden's decision), Oghren throw his lot with Grey Wardens cause in defeating the Blight and joins them back to surface. Completely abolishing what's left of his title in Orzammar by becoming a surface dwarf.
Oghren proves to be a formidable warrior and great asset to the Grey Warden's party in their journey towards defeating the Blight.
After the war was over, Oghren live a quite life, and for some time, got in touch with his old flame at the surface, and even got a family, but Oghren can't completely erase his old habits and returned to drinking again. Can't shake the thrill of fighting, Oghren suddenly left his family and ultimately decides to join the ranks of the Grey Wardens, passing their ritual with ease and became a Grey Warden, much to his wife's anger and dismay.
