History[]
The son of Vergil and unknown woman, Nero was left at an orphanage in the city of Fortuna where he was given his name due to the black blanket that he was wrapped in and during his time there grew close to Kyrie, Credo, and their parents however when Kyrie and Credo's parents were killed during a demon attack, Nero eventually became a knight for the Order of the Sword, worshippers of the legendary Sparda, Nero's grandfather (he doesn't know). Although Nero has butted heads with the Order for various violations of their rules, he remains loyal to the them through and through. Until one day, when an unknown stranger (Dante) had crashed into the prayer ceremony and "killed" Sanctus, the leader of the Order, Nero was about to leave with Kyrie, but when the stranger "threatened" her, Nero attacked the stranger and defeated him in battle. To his shock, the stranger would not be killed so easily, and implored Nero to look to the Order by himself. Curious by what he meant, Nero discovers that the Order has been experimenting on humans and demons to fuse them together and more to create soldiers for their army in order to take over Fortuna. Nero cuts ties with the Order when he discovers that Sanctus plans to use Kyrie as a vessel for the Savior, a giant statue-like demon. He attempts to stop them, but is captured in the process. When Dante and his crew intervene by weakening the Savior, Nero, with Yamato by his side, barged through the Savior from within, and confronted Sanctus. Angered that he'd dare use Kyrie as a tool for his schemes, Nero defeated Sanctus in a hard battle, then destroyed the Savior with Devil Bringer, earning him the respect of Devil May Cry.
He later worked for the company via a mobile headquarters that he shares with Nico, Agnus' wisecrack daughter. Prior to the events of Devil May Cry V, Nero had lost Devil Bringer by another stranger (Vergil) and nearly bled to death. He recovered soon after and was met by a stranger named V. With V's guidance, Nero soon learned that Urizen, the devil half of Vergil, has taken his arm. Upon hearing of another demon invasion led by the former himself, he attempts to stop them, but discovered that Dante, Lady and Trish had been defeated by Urizen. He too is later vanquished as Urizen proves too powerful for him, which Dante uses to stall him long enough for V to get the beaten Nero out of the tree.
Months later, with his partner Nico, with the invasion worsened, Nero has been fighting non-stop against Urizen's forces, with a prosthetic named "Devil Breaker", a mechanical replacement for Devil Bringer. In a day, he has beaten Urizen's hordes of demons and his lieutenants, some of which are proven to be devil vessels of his older colleagues, Trish and Lady. He later confronted Urizen but was again defeated by the latter. Before he would be killed, he was eventually rescued by Dante, who has awakened his most powerful form of Devil Trigger. Although Dante had beaten Urizen, he later found out that V was nearing onto the demon and tried to stop him: to no avail as he merged, formed into Vergil once again. Vergil easily defeated the weary Dante and departed. When pressed by Nero, Dante revealed that Vergil is his father and left to confront the latter himself, leaving Nero distraught. In spite of being dissuaded by Trish and Lady, Nero resolves to stop their life-long feud, but not before he gives Kyrie a heartfelt phone call. Although despondent in his failure to save Credo, Nero remained determined to save his father and his uncle from themselves, unlocking his own Devil Trigger. He confronts Dante and Vergil and eventually defeats the latter in battle, eventually stopping their feud they had long ago. Reinvigorated, both decided to go down to the depths of the underworld to face the demons at bay while Nero stays to destroy the remaining demon forces remaining in the human world.
