In this incarnation, Mr. Grimm is not a literal manifestation of Death, but a Vietnam War veteran that was forced to survive through cannibalism. After high school with his friend Benny, Mr. Grimm was drafted to Vietnam where he fought alongside Benny, but was captured by the Vietnamese in the process. For days, Mr. Grimm struggled to survive in a hole 25 ft below ground, with the wounded Benny as his side. They were later visited by a Vietnamese advisor specializing in psychological torture by forcing his victims to feed on each other to survive. When Benny died, Mr. Grimm was forced to eat the corpse of his best friend to survive. He was later rescued by US Marines, but was captured after killing four of them and taken back to the United States, where he was locked in an asylum for 30 years. If Grimm had won, Calypso would grant him the revenge against the Vietnamese advisor that forced him to eat Benny alive. Grimm killed the advisor and began to eat his corpse alive, having discovered his newfound taste for human flesh.
2012[]
The son of a stuntman who later died tragically in a stunt performance, Daniel Grimm wished to be like his father one day, but was forced to take to crime to survive. He even attacked and killed an innocent man to prove he was a thug and a criminal, later finding his own gang named the Skulls. After hearing of the annual Twisted Metal contest where the prize would be one wish from Calypso, Grimm participated in the tournament in the hopes of being reunited with his father. Where he tackles against the Dolls. After destroying their powerful creation, the Iron Maiden, Grimm visits Calypso, who grants him his wish; only to backfire on him when he inadvertently causes the car crash that killed his father. As a result, his younger self kills him, ironically going down the dark path he went through before.
