Mosasaurs were a group of very large, carnivorous aquatic reptiles that lived on the Earth during the Cretaceous period, finally becoming extinct at the time of the K-Pg, approximately 66 million years ago
After traceable DNA fragments were discovered in a fossilized Mosasaur, InGen Corporation scientists succeeded in cloning a Mosasaur for their new dinosaur park, Jurassic World. This Mosasaur was kept in a 3 million gallon pool, where it was used as a park attraction, being fed sharks during a feeding show.
During the 2015 Isla Nublar Incident, the Mosasaur snapped a Pteranodon out of the air, and beached itself to pull the Indominus rex into the water, where it killed and ate it. One year later in 2016, she was thought to be dead when a submersible went into the lagoon to collect a sample of what was left of the Indominus for the creation of another genetic hybrid, the Indoraptor. The Mosasaurus then ate the sub, along with a mercenary named Jack trying to escape on a helicopter, and when the gates were left open, she escaped the lagoon and swam into the ocean. When Darius Bowman and his group of friends were leaving the island, the Mosasaurus attacked them and wrecked their ship, which led to the six being stranded on Mantah Corp Island.

Appearance[]
The mosasaur is a marine reptile that has a very elongated body, which is streamlines for swimming. Its predominant color is a mottled gray, though it is rather dark. The typical mosasaur probably grew to a maximum of 50 feet in length, and weighing in at 30,000 lbs. However, the mosasaur at Jurassic World was much larger than the historic creature, measuring in at at least 100 feet in length (see [1] and [2]).
Powers and Abilities[]
- Swimming - The Mosasaur swam similar to an aquatic shark, undulating back and forth, using its fins for maneuvering, rather than locomotion. This means that it was probably an agile swimmer, with a maximum speed of about 30 mph (13 m/s).
Faults and Weaknesses[]
- Mosasaur jaws and teeth are specialized for seizing and holding prey, rather than being specialized for cutting and dismembering, as a shark’s teeth are. Mosasaur teeth are cone-shaped and lack a cutting edge altogether. The creature’s skull is constructed similar to a modern snake, meaning that it has flexible jaw joints that can be used to “ratchet” prey into its throat. As such, rather than dismembering prey, it will instead swallow it whole. (Reference)
