History[]
Born Michael Townley, a high school dropout in North Yankton, Michael made a name for himself assembling a gang composed of Brad Snider, a lazy thug, former Royal Canadian Air Force pilot Trevor Phillips, and crippled hacker Lester Crest, as a criminal who made a living stealing 10 thousand dollars from a bank in Carcer City in 1988. He was imprisoned twice and married a prostitute named Amanda, whom he had two children with, the lazy Jimmy and the dimwitted Tracey. After a botched heist in 2004, in which Michael agreed to sell out Trevor and Brad to the feds, but the latter was killed by Dave Norton. Michael feigned death so that he can have a peaceful life with his family in Los Santos. But as the years go by, the very peace Michael was supposed to have turned for the worst: Amanda cheated on him with her tennis coach, Jimmy had done nothing productive even when he had grown up, and Tracey often went to parties where she often sold her sexuality to partygoers. Eventually, he met Franklin Clinton, a young car-booster while the latter was repossessing a car for a crooked car dealer named Simeon Yeterian. After paying Franklin off and beating up Simeon for the fraudulent car deal, Michael recruits Franklin into helping him return Jimmy when the latter tried to sell Michael's boat for money. When Michael discovered Amanda's affair with her tennis coach, he chased down the cheater with Franklin's help, but inadvertently makes things worse for himself when he destroyed the house he was hiding, which didn't belong to the coach, but to a woman dating Martin Madrazo, a powerful criminal boss in Los Santos. Now stuck in debt to the Mexican gangster, and with the return of Trevor, Michael sets out a variety of heists throughout Los Santos to pay his debt, but continously breaks his relationship with his family, who then abandoned him out of fright that Michael has never changed as he promised.
After paying out his debt to Madrazo, and working for Norton and self-important FIB agent Steve Haines, Michael continues planning a series of stunts and heists to raise enough money to get out of the criminal life, even so far as to work as an associate producer for legendary filmmaker Solomon Richards and getting his family back together, but is put on tensions by Trevor when the latter discovers that Brad had been killed (instead of being put into prison as he once believed). Michael had been captured by the Triad who were sent to kill Trevor, and tortured, where he was rescued by Franklin. All three were assembled to rescue Lamar from the Ballas, and to pull off one last heist that can garner them more than enough money to leave the criminal life again, but with troubles with Merryweather board member Devin Weston, whose company assets Trevor had been stealing from, the crime gangs who hounded them before, they agreed to kill them and Steve Haines in order to start off peaceful lives.
With Michael dealing with Stretch, Franklin's nemesis, he met with Franklin and Trevor to execute Weston, then leaves home to start off a legit career.
In an alternate option, he is killed by Franklin on orders of Weston himself.
